Royal North Sea Yacht Club
RNSYC is an exclusive location, provided with a bar and a gastronomic restaurant and a multipurpose meeting room up to 40 persons. It is situated in the Ostend marina. Magnificent view over the harbour and the sea guaranteed.
The club was founded in 1946 by a close group of Snipe and Papillon sailors and has grown into one of the most dynamic water sports clubs and marinas on the Belgian coast. It is the only yacht club in Belgium located in the city centre. All shops, restaurants, train and bus connections, museums, etc. are within walking distance.

Founded Year
The Royal North Sea Yacht Club was established in the winter of 1946-1947 by a group of young enthusiasts sailing Snipes and Papillons. The then Lord Mayor of Ostend, Henri Serruys, put The Montgomery dock at the disposal of the Club and with the Commodore Georges Timmermans DSC at the helm, this great yacht Club was born. The first Dragons appeared at the Club in the 50’s and since then the Dragon fleet has been the core of the Club’s activities. The ‘ELAN’ donated to late King Baudouin I has been very active Dragon of the fleet. Over the years many major Championships, RORC and Yacht Races have been organised by the RNSYC and visited Ostend. The RNSYC persuing relentlessly its efforts to promote the sailing activities was awarded ahead of major applicants, the organisation of the Dragon Gold Cup 2001, in co-operation with the International Dragon Association, The KBYV – FRBY, the Belgian Dragon Association and thanks to the board as well as all club members the Dragon Gold Cup 2001 became a magnificent and successful event.

Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club
Uniquely, the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club can boast not only a sheltered marina in one of the East Coast’s few deep-water all-weather harbours, but also easy access to some very special inland waterways, the southern Broads.
As befits a gateway to the Broads with unrestricted access to the sea, cruising at the RN&SYC encompasses everything from pottering on the Norfolk and Suffolk rivers to exploring the coasts and waterways of Europe, tackling the Atlantic circuit or sailing around the world. Weather permitting, both motor and sailing cruisers are invited to join a Shakedown Cruise at the beginning of the season and a number of cruising activities are also planned throughout the season. Longer cruises are organised in addition to being invited to cruise in company with other clubs from both the UK and The Netherlands. We find we have much in common with yacht clubs in The Netherlands, our closest neighbours across the North Sea.
The Club’s outstanding location on the Suffolk coastline offers easy cruising along the East Coast as well as being in close proximity to Norwich, Southwold, Great Yarmouth, the Waveney Valley and Broadland.
A popular day trip is to visit Scroby Sands where, observed by the seals, members enjoy a picnic and a stroll, or a game of cricket or rounders – sometimes curtailed by the incoming tide!
Power or sail, there are opportunities for everyone to enjoy their own particular water-borne activity. Recently, there has been an emerging interest in RIB ownership and we have a growing fleet which enjoys social cruises, developing their boat-handling skills and assisting with competitive events.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Voorbereiden voor je aanmeert
Het is aan te bevelen dat u zich klaarmaakt voor het aanmeren voor u de jachthavenzone binnenvaart. Kijk uit voor de reguliere scheepvaart en de overzetdiensten. Maak zeker een lang meertouw klaar. De kans bestaat dat u voor (boeg) of achter (hek) aan de ring van een meerboei moet vastmaken. De keuze van voor of achter hangt doorgaans af van de mogelijkheid om vlot aan en van boord te stappen langs de voorpreekstoel of langs de open kuip. In de mate van het mogelijke assisteert de havenmeester u vanuit de clubopblaasboot.
Hang ook voldoende stootwillen aan beide boorden uit.
Indien meerdere jachten naast elkaar aanmeren, verzeker dan zeker met een voor- en achterspring en breng evt. een lijn uit naar het ponton.

- Havenmeester: onderaan in het clubgebouw, links voorbij hoofdingang
- Sanitair: via de hoofdingang (achteraan gang, naast de trap) OF via de ingang in het midden van het clubgebouw. De toegangscode krijgt u bij het aanmelden.
- Steigers: toegang met toegangscode die u bij aanmelding krijgt. Drinkwater en 220 v walstroom zijn verkrijgbaar.
- Wifi: vraag de toegangscode bij de havenmeester OF gebruik het free wifi netwerk van Stad Oostende – Zoek het draadloos signaal ‘Free WiFi aan Zee’.
- Winkelen / bankzaken: de winkelstraten met apotheek, etenswarenwinkels, supermarkten en banken zijn op minder dan vijf minuten wandelen van de jachthaven.
- Toegangscodes: bij havenmeester of in late uren bij bar clubhouse.
