Hanse 410 : The new boat from Greifswald on the YACHT test rig. The first photos

In the test on the Greifswalder Bodden in very different wind conditions, the Hanse 410 is convincing under sail. The design from the Berret-Racoupeau studio in France shows a high performance potential, runs an unusual height on the wind and is light and agile when steering. So much for now. The full test report with a complete assessment of the sailing characteristics and comfort on and below deck as well as a categorisation of the many details and prices will follow in the next issue of YACHT. Issue 19/2023 will be published at the beginning of September.

Hanseyachts in Greifswald is gradually completing the latest generation of its cruising yachts. As the latest model, the Hanse 410 is now set to build on the success of its larger sisters, the Hanse 460 ( to the presentation ) and 510 ( to the test report ). The new 410 now follows suit with a great deal of visual, but also conceptual fidelity to the line. The design and the general layout on deck have been adopted. This means, among other things, two tables in the cockpit for a clear passage through the cockpit and a consistent return of all halyards, sheets and trim lines to the helm stations. The self-tacking jib is standard, but the Hanse 410 can also be equipped with an overlapping genoa with hoisting points on deck. A furling mast is also available on request.

Unlike its larger sisters 460 and 510, the galley of the Hanse 410 is no longer built into the saloon as a long element, but is positioned in a very generously designed L-shape at the companionway. This leaves more space in the saloon for a second sofa on the starboard side and the option of proper navigation. The customer can choose whether to have a second wet room in the spacious owner's cabin. Variance is also available for the aft cabin: Either two symmetrical aft cabins or one cabin plus a large and accessible forecastle, which can be accessed either directly from the cockpit or from the inside through a door.

The new Hanse 410 is specified with a built-in diesel engine from Yanmar with 39 hp, saildrive and two-blade fixed pitch propeller. A larger machine with 56 hp is also feasible. And: As an alternative to the built-in diesel, Hanse offers the 410 with an electric drive. The basic price for the Hanse 410 is 299,760 euros gross, including 19 % VAT and a single set of Amwind sails from Elvstrøm.

The new Hanse 675

The new flagship of the HanseYachtsAG, floats rigged and ready to sail in the port of Greifswald.

The 32 meter carbon mast reaches into the sky and gives the Hanse 675 her last touch, creating a 21-meter-long high-tech luxury yacht. The Hanse 675 not only breaks the record as the biggest ship ever built by the HanseYachts AG, she is also Germany’s largest yacht build in series production.

“With emotion and high-tech, our new queen of the seas embodies the Hanse design philosophy of sensual clarity and modern luxury, an even more avant-garde interior and with fluid exterior lines, a milestone in series yacht building” says Dr. Jens Gerhardt, CEO of HanseYachts AG.

As all Hanse yachts, the Hanse 675 was developed by judel/vrolijk& co. With clear shapes, smooth surfaces and the typical uncluttered deck layout she conveys corresponding sportiness. The elongated teak fore deck as well as the flowing rooflines provide the perfect place to enjoy the sun.

“Life at sea implies light, air, water and distance. We have transferred these attributes to the interior of the yacht, creating a spacious and bright interior, resembling the elegance of marine life”, says Interior Designer JörgHeuser.

Large windows in the hull and a long panoramic roof with an electrically openable section on deck contribute to the elegant appearance and give an idea of how the sunlight floods the interior. The optional hardtop with integrated speakers and spot lights provides shade and can be opened while sailing.

The multimedia package of the Hanse 675 also impresses. The cockpit has three 21 inch screens, which can be used either as plotters or for entertainment purposes.

“Based on examples and solutions, as they can only be found in nature, we created a world that will amaze the viewer with its many highlights.” Soft curves and smooth transitions of various fabrics, such as hand-made leather to panels of fine wood, create a hand-flattering atmosphere, which is rarely seen in a series yacht.

In the owner’s cabin, the centerpiece of any luxury yacht, a wave shape design has been implemented to use the available space in the best possible way. Artfully mounted shelves and sideboards make the impression, “to float in the air”.

The spacious salon offers a cozy atmosphere and invites guests with its unique design to be carried away by the artistic shapes. The card table is provided with a large screen and can be used as a comfortable office at sea. The coffee bar is lovingly encased in the side wall and supports the stylish ambience. A wine cooler is also included in the interior and ensures the optimum temperature.

In the various bathrooms, the structure, optimized by evolutionary processes, continues. Round showers not only look attractive, they simultaneously create more space and therefore more comfort. At the same time, HanseYachts has combined high quality building materials such as stainless steel and fine wood veneers with neatly accentuated lighting architecture. Another highlight in the bathroom is the genuine stone, which has been installed the first time in a Hanse.

An additional feature is the unique layout, which provides the owner and his guests the highest level of privacy. The crew has a separate entry on the port side of the cockpit that leads both into the kitchen area as well as to the spacious crew cabin for up to three, with an adjacent wet room. The kitchen and utility area are separated from the living area, allowing the guests to relax undisturbed.

Built in the historic northeastern German shipyard in Greifswald on the Baltic Sea, Hanse Yachts AG has been building the Hanse brand sailing yachts since 1990. Greifswald has a shipbuilding history that dates back to the early-14th century. The Greifswald Shipyard built its final sailing yacht in the 1980s and in 1990 the modern Hanse Yachts boatyard was built upon Greifswald’s centuries of shipbuilding and craftsmanship traditions. In 1993, the Hanse yard launched the first series-manufactured sailboat with a self-tacking jib, the Hanse 291 and presented it at the International Hamburg Boat Show for its world premiere. With a design based on renowned Scandinavian designer, Carl Baier’s Aphrodite 29 and an unbeatable price, it became a runaway bestseller in not only Germany, but all of Europe, North America, Australia and Southeast Asia, and became the basis for the yard’s success—creating fast, innovative, beautiful yachts for enjoyable family cruising as well as competing in regattas.

Working with Judel/Vrolijk & Co, one of the world’s foremost yacht design and construction companies, Hanse developed its first new in-house designed yacht, the Hanse 371, elegant and functional. Awarded European Yacht of the Year, it was the first yacht (along with the Hanse 401) to be series-manufactured with a high-gloss finish, as well as the integration of the cast iron/lead keel into series manufacturing process lines. From thereon, new Hanse Yachts were designed by Judel & Vrolijk, performance yacht designers with an Americas Cup background, and older models were improved over the years with new innovations, technologies, and materials, with many receiving accolades and awards. One of Hanse Yachts’ strongest advantages is the ability for couples or solo sailing; with Hanses’ dinghy-like performance, self-tacking jib and clean deck layout free of ropes and fittings as all lines lead to the helm, that allow a minimal crew of one or two to handle even a large 46 ft yacht comfortably and easily.

The new Hanse 460 is one of the best performing yachts in its class with easy sailing on a new level. The state-of-the art production processes at Hanse’s Greifswald yard ensures that each and every sailing yacht, no matter how individually customized, meets standards of world-famous Hanse durability, thrilling performance, and comfort. Series manufacturing is a process that is also known in the industry as value stream organization for the efficient production of yachts, as various processes are grouped in a series of production lines and assembled in stages. This optimizes quality and time to delivery, while reducing costs, enabling Hanse Yachts to offer the invariant “Engineered in Germany” seal of quality. Currently 10 different models are constructed at the Greifswald facility, including the largest series-produced sailing yacht in the world, the Hanse 675. Models range from the 315, 348, 388, 418, 458, the new 460, 508, 548, and 588 in addition to the 675.

About 15-20 Brokerage (pre-owned) Hanse Yachts are currently available in the USA, ranging in price from about $799,000 for a 2017 Hanse 588 to about $165,000 for a 2014 Hanse 345. Model years range from a 2021 Hanse 418 listed at under $390,000 and a 2020 Hanse 458 listed at under $525,000 to a 2008 Hanse 540e listed at under $370,000. "For our two-man crew, the 348 is just the right size. It offers enough space for everything we need. Especially in times of the Coronavirus we learned to love the big bath at the beginning of the season, because in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, for example, the showers in the marina were closed. As a Greifswald native, it was clear to us from the very beginning that only a Hanse would be considered. We have not regretted this decision at all. It is top-notch in terms of both comfort and sailing performance."
