Una espectacular Excursión Catamarán a la Cascada de Maro en un barco de Lujo con capacidad para 30 pasajeros.

La excursión, incluye una paella  gigante, que la tripulación prepara en el mismo barco para deleite de los pasajeros, así como 4 bebidas incluidas en el precio del pasaje.

La duración es de 4:30 h y el barco zarpa del puerto de Caleta de Vélez con dirección a los acantilados de Maro.

La Caleta de Velez is located in Axarquia in the province of Malaga .

This fishing harbour is really a pleasure to visit. And so is watching the boats come into port!

It is the main fishing port on the Costa del Sol.

You can see all sorts of small fishing boats and pleasure boats.

The port is divided into 2 parts. There is the marina and the fishing port. Caleta de Velez is attached to the capital of La Axarquía, Velez-Malaga .

The fish and shellfish caught are delivered fresh to the chiringuitos of Axarquia.

The chiringuitos are the small beach restaurants. This is an opportunity to enjoy the famous espetos de sardinas (sardine skewers) for few euros.

About the espetos, according to the advice of the locals, the best time to eat sardines is from May to August. There are two ways to remember this: these are the months without an “r” and it is the exact opposite of the best time to eat oysters.

Seeing the Phoenician eye on the fishing boats

If we are used to seeing the Phoenician eye on the jabegas of the Costa del Sol, it is still quite common to see eyes painted on the bow of fishing boats. This Phoenician eye, later taken over by the Romans and Greeks, was painted to ward off the evil eye during sea crossings.

There is also a legend that this eye was used to scare sea monsters into staying underwater!

After fishing, there is still work for the fishermen….

The nets must be repaired!

And repair them again and again!

When you arrive at the fishing port from Torre del Mar, you can often see these nets drying in the sun.

Then they are put away for the next trip to the sea.

The Mediterranean route with a catamaran cruise is done in semi-private groups (2 to 8 people maximum), starting from La Caleta de Velez. The guide will pick you up in Torre del Mar, Torrox and Nerja, at your place of residence.

This day trip consists of three parts: a 2-hour boat cruise, a typical fish meal and a visit to the sugar cane museum. .

The festivities

There is one major festival to remember in this fishing village. It is the procession of the Virgen del Carmen (Patron Saint of fishermen), part of which is done with the fishing boats along the coast. This procession takes place in mid-July every year.
