Two Wheels Only

Being located after the bump-out gives better views along the side of the ship when looking aft. With the other choices, the ship partially blocks the view looking aft.

You didn't mention your itinerary but if you are stopping at Ocean Cay, most people prefer starboard side since the ship will likely dock with that side facing the island.

That's a good point. Do any of you have mobility issues? If so then 18004 is really close to YC common areas. Other than that I'd say go with Two Wheels advice.

I would stay on deck 19 if possible...way bigger staterooms

We have December 23rd 19th floor booked on Seashore  Yacht Club Deluxe. I wish there were some photos.

No mobility issues so 18030 does look pretty good!

Great Review

Isn't Top Sail on Deck 16? If so, I'd prefer a cabin there...but it depends on how you spend your time. I tend to drink a lot there 🙂

I believe it might be, is that part of the Yacht Club?

It's the main area with drinks, snacks, entertainment. If you aren't on the pool deck, or eating dinner, you are here (if you are in the YC).

For me, if I've had a few drinks, much easier to stumble back to my room without navigating stairs 🙂

Have a Look into my Review... Picture of 19025....

Thanks

Isn't 19025 a deluxe grand instead of just deluxe and that's why it's larger...

Wow if my cabin looks like your's ( 19025   ) I will be very pleased. Our's is a YC deluxe grand.

1 hour ago, alyssamma said: Isn't 19025 a deluxe grand instead of just deluxe and that's why it's larger...

It's the biiiig version of the grand.

To give you an idea how big.

If sofa is converted to bed, balcony door is not blocked and towards the other wall it's about 4 meter open space...

Looked at the deck plan that cabin looks wider than our's. Same length but looks wider is that correct?

Yep muuuch wider, because I've had the 21 and 25 booked. So I was clearly able to see the difference

Marcus so what do you think of MSC compared to Celebrity or RCCl that looks like those are your favorites? Or do you go with the best date for you, itinerary, and if it's a new ship etc? We've done several Carnival, RCCL, NCL (a few in the Haven..hoping YC would be similar), Avalon European...what's your thoughts on that? And have you done an Alaskan cruise on our bucket list for in a few years!

To be honest.

You can't compare X with MSC.

For us, non YC at MSC would be not acceptable. On X ships we go Concierge or Aqua Class without any issues.

We'll go Alaska in May, if we are allowed to.... Hey Mr. PRESIDENT, ITS YOUR TURN NOW, Ursula allowed the Americans to come....

In Feb, again if...., we have Panama canal... With NCL....

Do all of the YC1 cabins on deck 16 have walk in showers? we do not want a shower tub combination. How is cabin 16016? anyone know?

For seashore, seaside, and Meraviglia, yes. For divina, no.

Paphillyguy

We stayed in 16015.  Not the original room we picked but it was a good room.  I was concerned as it is right across from a door that lead to the hallway to the Top Sail lounge.  Also just on the other side of the doors are the bathroom for both the Top Sail and the restaurant on deck 18.  They were rarely used and the door was not an issue.   The room had a walk in shower.

How MSC’s private island experience is different for cruisers in suites

Ashley Kosciolek

Do you enjoy large cruise ships but still want to feel like you're in the lap of luxury? Passengers booked in MSC Cruises' Yacht Club cabins and suites have access to high-end amenities – both on the ship and off.

Butlers, exclusive dining and a private pool delight guests on board, but perks also await on MSC 's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve , in the Bahamas. You can expect dedicated trams, towel service and a chance to book the nicest cabanas on the island, among other extras.

msc yacht club yc1

Read on to find out how the MSC Yacht Club Ocean Cay experience differs from that of the average cruiser.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club beaches vs. regular beaches

msc yacht club yc1

MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve private island is home to seven (soon to be eight) beaches, and all are public, except one — Ocean House Beach, which is the Yacht Club's exclusive swath of sand. Beyond its exclusivity, the beach has a few other differences from the island's regular beaches.

There, use of lounge chairs and umbrellas is free. Chairs at the other beaches are also free and available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, umbrellas come with an extra cost.

Passengers must sign out towels on board the ship before heading ashore to Ocean Cay's main beaches. Yacht Club passengers can skip that hassle and ask for towels at the towel tent found on Ocean House Beach.

msc yacht club yc1

Interestingly, I found that several of the public beaches were less crowded than Ocean House Beach. At the latter, chairs were positioned much more closely to one another. If you're willing to walk or hitch a ride on one of the island's trams, you'll find fewer crowds on the farther beaches than if you stick close to the ship.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club food vs. regular dining

msc yacht club yc1

Free lunch is included for all cruisers who visit Ocean Cay. For Yacht Club travelers, the Ocean House Restaurant — an exclusive waiter-served dining venue where passengers enjoy their meals on a shaded porch — exudes upscale beach vibes.

msc yacht club yc1

During my visit, the menu included starters like crab ceviche, charred octopus and a salad with romaine, tomatoes, jicama, a poached egg and candied bacon in a citrus dressing. Mains featured locally sourced blackened mahi-mahi, lobster roll, carne asada, a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich and one of the best burgers I've ever tasted during a cruise — a blend of Angus chuck, short ribs and grilled brisket with red onion jam and Monterey Jack cheese. Desserts consisted of creme caramel, mango cheesecake and chocolate cake with coffee sauce.

msc yacht club yc1

The meals at Ocean House are definitely superior to the fare found at the Seakers buffet, which is where cruisers not staying in the Yacht Club can go for a beach barbecue that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, macaroni and cheese, red beans, roasted potatoes and a slew of salads, drinks and desserts.

msc yacht club yc1

The food is tasty, but lines can be long. An alternative is to head to one of several food trucks throughout the island. Some are free and dole out the same items offered on the buffet but with shorter lines. Others sell entirely different menu items — lobster grilled cheese, fried calamari, shrimp with watermelon, Caribbean ceviche and octopus salad — with the cost charged to cruisers' onboard accounts.

msc yacht club yc1

Additionally — and also for an extra fee — a stand near the ship offers specialty coffee and ice cream. (If you're a coffee lover, trust me when I say you won't want to miss the Coco-Nilla Latte.)

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club cabanas vs. regular cabanas

msc yacht club yc1

There are three types of cabanas on Ocean Cay: Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas and Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas. All three types are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

They can hold up to six people each and include cold water, beach towels and chairs, as well as floating mats for use in the water. As the prices increase, so does the number of inclusions. The last two types are only available for booking by Yacht Club passengers.

Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, found on South Beach, North Beach and Bimini Beach, are the most affordable on the island at $250 for the day. They've got walls on three sides, and they're outfitted with cushioned couches. They include the basic amenities mentioned above, and anyone can rent them.

Next up are the Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas, which cost $400 for the day and also entitle you to free lunch and drinks, as well as fresh fruit skewers, four sets of snorkel gear and four floating mats. They're found on the Yacht Club's private Ocean House Beach, so they're off-limits to non-Yacht Club guests.

msc yacht club yc1

The most expensive, however, are the Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas, located in a different section of the Ocean House area. They carry a $450 price tag but offer all the same extras as Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas.

The draw? They're closer to the water and, therefore, have better views. Although they aren't on the main part of Ocean House Beach, they are still in the exclusive area, near the restaurant, so you don't have to go far to grab food.

Ultimately, the only thing being in the Yacht Club affords you in this case is the option to book more expensive cabanas.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club trams vs. regular trams

msc yacht club yc1

At 95 acres, Ocean Cay is sizable. If you're fit, you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 minutes, but if you don't have great mobility or if you're easily overheated, reaching some of the island's more remote beaches can be difficult on foot. That's why MSC offers tram shuttles.

Passengers in standard cabins will find tram stops with shaded waiting areas throughout the island. However, waits can be long, especially if many other people are also in need of a lift.

Yacht Club cruisers can take advantage of trams exclusively for the Yacht Club. They run between a special tent (with free cold water to sip while you wait) set up just inside the entrance to Ocean Cay and the Ocean House beach and restaurant area.

You can make special requests for stops, which the regular trams usually won't accommodate. For example, you might ask to go straight from the tent to South Beach for a volleyball game without stopping anywhere else first.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club activities vs. regular activities

msc yacht club yc1

This is the one category where the island's public spaces beat the Ocean House area by a mile. If you're looking for something to do other than eating, drinking or lazing by the beach, you'll have to head back toward the ship because there's not much going on in the exclusive areas.

Everything from massages, lighthouse tours and water sports equipment rentals to beach parties, volleyball games and shore excursions takes place elsewhere. However, perhaps that's by design. The Yacht Club is generally quiet, even on board, and the line likely prefers to keep the raucousness to other locations.

Bottom line

msc yacht club yc1

The MSC Yacht Club experience is more exclusive than the standard one at Ocean Cay, with extras like butler service, dedicated trams, towel service, access to pricier cabanas and a private beach and restaurant with better food and shorter waits.

However, all of the action — shore excursions, pickup volleyball games, beach parties, the lighthouse show — happens in the areas that are accessible to everyone, which significantly levels the playing field.

Additionally, items like specialty coffee, ice cream and for-fee food truck orders cost extra for everyone — even Yacht Club passengers.

Overall, Ocean Cay offers a great day for anyone who enjoys the beach, regardless of cabin type.

At every meal, MSC Yacht Club Waiter John Carlo Driz, left, and Head Waiter Joseph Mathew Calicdan, ... [+] right, encouraged us to take the moment and taste it.

As one of the thousands of Americans to make the trip to Europe to see Taylor Swift this summer, I highly recommend all concertgoers do what my friends and I did and take advantage of the time abroad. Lucky enough to score tickets to see her in Edinburgh, we decided – since we were already paying for international flights – to make the most of it and add on a seven-night MSC cruise from Southampton. This way, we could spend more time together, fly home from Heathrow (”So Long, London”), which was less expensive, and also get to visit Norway, Denmark and Brussels, enjoying the comfort and convenience of MSC’s Yacht Club as our home base. Honestly, we didn’t care as much about the itinerary as the ship itself because, as anyone who has seen the Eras Tour will tell you, it’s hard to just go back home after being part of this historic experience, especially if you’ve traveled thousands of miles to get there.

We had sailed on MSC World Europa last year and found it so relaxing, we once again booked the Yacht Club (MSC’s luxurious ship within a ship) — this time, on MSC Virtuosa. We knew we wanted a lot of down time, where we could just hang out on our adjoining balconies and rehash every minute of the concerts over drinks and snacks. After being with 73,000 other Swifties for two nights in a row, we also needed the sanctuary of the Yacht Club, an exclusive area of the ship with its own private lounge, restaurant and pool. During our week-long cruise, we rarely ventured out of there.

When the Yacht Club director welcomed us aboard and we told him we had previously sailed on World Europa — MSC’s biggest and one of its newest ships — he laughed and said, “How will we compete with that? We will have to wow you with our crew!” And they did.

Our excellent butler unlocked the door between our balconies so we could take in the scenery ... [+] together.

Virtuosa may not have World Europa’s bells and whistles — we definitely missed Raj Polo Tea House and Pizza & Burger, our former daily haunts — but it does have team members like John Carlo Driz and Joseph Mathew Calicdan (photo above), who made sure we had everything we needed and way more. If we left the ship a few pounds heavier than when we arrived, it’s their fault. They took such good care of us and ensured that my friends, a vegan and vegetarian, had meals that were just as delicious as mine.

A shout out also has to go to our butler, Jean Louis, who I’m sure we disappointed by not giving him more opportunities to use his considerable skills. He could have gotten us into shows, escorted us to the front of lines and brought us the best premium spirits but we were happy to take in the sea views from our adjoining balconies (he did unlock the door between them for us) and talk endlessly over Diet Cokes. He is a consummate professional and MSC is lucky to have him.

One of the delicious desserts in the Yacht Club Restaurant.

Because meals were, by choice, our biggest activity, the food was important — and the Yacht Club Restaurant didn’t disappoint. They always had a variety of specials as well as classic favorites that were available every day.

We once again opted for the three specialty restaurant package because we had enjoyed Kaito Sushi and the Teppanyaki experience so much last time. They were just as good this time around and we also got to try Indochine, where we had a great Vietnamese meal.

One afternoon, we ended up at the regular buffet for lunch when we got back from an excursion too late to eat in the Yacht Club Restaurant. Although the pizza was excellent, it just wasn’t worth fighting the crowd there at any other time. The lines were long and no one ever answered the drink buzzer on our table, just reinforcing our loyalty to the Yacht Club.

Yacht Club suites

My Yacht Club suite on MSC Virtuosa.

All Yacht Club suites are nice and roomy — a real luxury on a cruise ship. In addition to the king bed, there’s a comfy couch, a desk, a coffee table and a couple of chairs. There are plenty of drawers, shelves and closet space. In fact, I even made myself right at home by creating a little library of all the books I had bought when I was in Bath for a few nights between Edinburgh and the cruise. And, because we spent so much time on the ship, I actually read a couple of them as we sailed.

You can tell Virtuosa is an older ship because there are no phone charging ports near the bed — which, come to think of it, is probably another reason I slept so well on the cruise.

Every day, the mini fridge is filled and replenished with beverages of your choice, and water bottles and snacks are always plentiful. Although I was never hungry after dinner and dessert, I still managed to polish off the beautiful little pastries and perfect piece of chocolate that appeared nightly as a part of Yacht Club turndown service.

The sauna is just one of the many features of Aurea Spa's thermal area.

I find it impossible to resist a cruise ship spa and the facilities at Aurea Spa are top notch. One of the great perks of Yacht Club is unlimited access to the extensive thermal area, which features everything from sauna and steam to hot tubs, experience showers and a snow room. A daily visit is self-care at its best.

My Balinese massage was amazing and next time I will remember to book it in the evening because it is simply too relaxing to do anything afterwards other than sleep.

All in all, our MSC cruise was the perfect way to transition into our post-Eras era. We’re already trying to figure out how we can plan another one this year — and how to make it last at least for a fortnight.
