Spotted: 10 superyachts in Porto Cervo this weekend

Porto Cervo is always a superyacht hotspot and one of the top Mediterranean party destinations and this weekend was no exception. The turquoise waters off the glamorous island were packed with some of the world’s largest superyachts .

Sardinia is popular among the world’s glitterati and a host of celebrities were also spotted on some of the superyachts in the bay. With some of the world’s best restaurants , designer shops and a stunning coastline it is no surprise that luxury yachts are drawn to Porto Cervo.

Here are 10 superyachts that were spotted in the iconic destination this weekend:

Difficult to miss in the bay was 133 metre superyacht Al Mirqab , which is owned by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. Launched in 2008, her exterior was designed by Tim Heywood , while her interior design is the work of Andrew Winch . Currently the thirteenth largest yacht in the world Al Mirqab can accommodate up to 35 guests and has 45 crew.

Arguably one of the most eye-catching superyachts in the Mediterranean this summer,  A was also spotted in Porto Cervo this weekend. Recent drone footage of superyacht A showed off the original lines of the futuristic superyacht, which was designed by Philippe Starck and built by Blohm + Voss . Commissioned in 2004 by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, the 119 metre yacht can accommodate 14 guests and is rumoured to have a selection of James Bond style security features.

The 99m superyacht Madam Gu stood out in Porto Cervo with her iconic blue hull. When she was launched in 2013, she was the largest Feadship ever built and the largest yacht launched in The Netherlands. A highly-private yacht, she can accommodate 12 guests and is able to carry up to 36 crew. She boasts a helicopter landing pad and hangar and well as an on deck gym and Jacuzzi.

Another yacht that proves blue is this season's hull colour ,  Sunrays also stood out in the bay at Porto Cervo. The 85 metre motor yacht was delivered by Oceanco in 2010. Sunrays has a flexible interior with multiple sliding doors meaning that she can transform from meeting room space into a family living area. Sunrays also turns heads in the dark thanks to 56 underwater lights.

The 50 metre motor yacht Sibelle was also in Porto Cervo this weekend. Launched by Heesen Yachts  in February, this is her first summer of Mediterranean cruising. Although not a classic explorer yacht she has an impressive performance with a range of 3,150 nautical miles at 13 knots. Sibelle has accommodation for 10 guests, with 61 square metres dedicated to the owner's suite.

Lady Sheridan

The 58 metre superyacht Lady Sheridan was launched in 2007 by Abeking & Rasmussen . She features exterior and interior design by Donald Starkey and can accommodate 12 guests. She boasts an impressive library and office space as well as a Jacuzzi and zero-speed stabilisers. Superyacht Lady Sheridan is for sale and recently had a further $3.9 million price drop down to $55 million.

Falcon Lair

Originally launched by Feadship in 1983,  _ Falcon Lair  _recently emerged from an extensive refit in France making her a yachting story not to miss last week . With exterior updates by Olesinski Ltd she now features a deep blue hull colour and was obviously taken straight to Porto Cervo so show off her new look.

Reborn Amels’ 76 metre superyacht Reborn was delivered in 1999 and underwent an extensive refit in 2010. Reborn has fantastic amenities including a spa, a swimming pool with a resistance training system and a glass elevator. She is also famous for a unique garden deck that has not been seen on a yacht of her size previously.

Enigma Enigma has also been spotted in Sardinian waters over the weekend. The 75 metre motor yacht was built by Blohm + Voss in 1991. Originally christened ECO by her former owner, Mexican mogul Emilio Azcárraga, she was later purchased by American Oracle boss Larry Ellison. She is now reportedly owned by British media magnet David Barclay. She can accommodate a maximum of 14 guests as well as 19 crew.

Lady Marina

The 64 metre custom yacht Lady Marina was launched in 1999 by Feadship. She is reportedly owned by Swiss businessman Sergio Mantegazza, who is the chairman and owner of travel company Globus. She can accommodate 12 guests and is famed for her combination of speed and stability while cruising.

Anchor for lunch in the Golfe of Sagone as you cruise down towards Bonifacio. Perched on top of magnificent limestone cliffs, over the blue Mediterranean Sea, this secluded old town is a French gem. Make your way down the narrow streets through the Roman remains, but don't forget that the city is best explored by sea. Dine at Stella d'Oro , for a perfect end to your day.

Maddalena Islands

Spend the morning anchored at sea to enjoy jet-skiing or kitesurfing on Piantarella Beach's majestic lagoon. Sail off to the Maddalena Archipelago National Park for a peaceful evening in an unspoiled paradise of rock formations and crystal blue sea. For a luxurious end to your day, dine at La Gritta , where you will be enchanted by the view whilst tasting top-quality cuisine.

Porto Rotondo

Continue heading south along the postcard-worthy coastline of the Costa Smeralda. Anchor in Porto Rotondo for lunch and sail within the beautiful wide bay of Cala di Volpe. Enjoy a fun day of water sports in the tranquil waters.

Head back to the main center of Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, with its chic boutiques and amazing marina. Admire the mega yachts at the marina, explore the coastal bars and restaurants; at night, dine at Michelin Starred Confusion , and then make your way to Phi Beach or Billionaire's Club to party with the world's top DJs and the jet set crowd.

Situated along Sardinia’s north-eastern Emerald Coast is the Costa Smerelda’s glittering nominal capital of Porto Cervo. Despite its popularity, the 55km stretch of coastline has remained unspoilt thanks to it being acquired in 1961 by a consortium led by HH the Aga Khan in 1961 which has limited development while enhancing its many delights.

Khan knew that Costa Smerelda’s breathtaking natural beauty and fantastic cruising grounds made it an exceptional vacation spot for the international elite so he decided to add in modern comforts and facilities to accommodate the kind of crowd travelling with yachts, jets and helicopters. He also commissioned acclaimed Italian artist Luigi Vietti to design the village of Porto Cervo which still stands today as an idyllic white washed seaside town. Prende il via oggi la Grand Soleil Cup, organizzata dallo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda insieme al Cantiere del Pardo.     L'evento, che torna in Costa Smeralda dopo l'ultima volta nel 2007, è dedicato agli armatori Grand Soleil che si ritrovano a Porto Cervo per un weekend all'insegna dell'amichevole veleggiata in mare e degli esclusivi eventi sociali una volta rientrati a terra.     Il programma prevede che la flotta dei quasi 40 Grand Soleil partecipanti navighi sabato 22 e domenica 23 giugno, nello scenario unico dell'Arcipelago di La Maddalena. Tra gli iscritti alla 22/a edizione dell'evento spiccano i Grand Soleil 72 Pantarei 2 e Shanti, le nuove ammiraglie del Cantiere del Pardo.     Il Grand Soleil 80, Essentia è l'imbarcazione più imponente della flotta con i suoi circa 26 metri di lunghezza.     Ancora, sono presenti modelli che hanno fatto la storia del Cantiere del Pardo come i Grand Soleil 42 Gilda e Tobalù del Mar disegnati da German Frers o Bucentaure 2 disegnato dallo studio Judel/Vrolijk. Tra gli iscritti figurano inoltre i Grand Soleil 40 e 44, rispettivamente Fra' Paolele, Yankee R e Lazy Dog, disegnati da Matteo Polli e Nauta Design.     La maggior parte della flotta proviene da varie regioni italiani ma ci sono alcuni partecipanti provenienti dalla Spagna, Francia, Principato di Monaco e persino da Porto Rico.     Il Grand Soleil 44, Lazy Dog, dell'armatore Sergio Sagramoso batte infatti bandiera portoricana. Tra i presenti anche due rappresentanti della tradizionalmente nutrita flotta adriatica: il GS 44 Athirat da Trieste e il GS 43 Seawolf da Rimini.
