What's Included

Day 1: Arrive Memphis Welcome to Memphis! Meet the group and head to The Peabody Hotel, known for its charm, elegance, and rich history. This icon opened in 1869 and is world-famous for its five resident ducks, who march daily from their rooftop perch, down through the lobby, and into the fountain for a swim – all under the careful watch of the Duckmaster! This evening enjoy dinner and live music at BB King’s Blues Club on the famous Beale Street! (D) Day 2: Elvis Museum & Graceland Tour / Embarkation American Queen Steamboat It’s time to get “All Shook Up” with a visit to Elvis’ one-and-only Graceland Mansion. Tour the inside of his famous home, still complete with green shag carpeting “down in the jungle room,” and also visit the “Elvis Presley’s Memphis” complex. Over 200,000-square-feet in size, it enables you to follow the life path that Elvis took, surround yourself with the things that he loved, and experience the sights and sounds of the city that inspired him. The “Elvis The Entertainer Career Museum” displays his gold and platinum records, his stunning jumpsuits, memorabilia from his movies, and so much more! “Presley Motors Automobile Museum” allows you to walk among some of Elvis’ favorite automobiles, including his iconic Pink Cadillac, Stutz Blackhawk, Ferrari, Limo, Rolls Royce, and more. Outside you can step aboard Elvis’ customized airplanes, the Lisa Marie and the Hound Dog II. Late afternoon we board the American Queen, said to be the largest river steamboat ever built. Constructed in 1995 and with a capacity of about 400 passengers, you will love this charming and uncrowded vessel. (B, L, D) Day 3: Port of the Mississippi Delta - American Queen Steamboat The Mississippi Delta is more than a geographical region. It is a way of life – a true cultural experience based on agriculture, music and history. These small river towns have been the inspiration of authors, musicians and artists for centuries. Catch a unique glimpse into the Port of the Mississippi Delta, and discover a muse of many. Enjoy stunning live performances each night in the two-story Grand Saloon, where you might be taken back to the roaring 20’s with a big band set, or maybe a more theatrical show, featuring Broadway’s biggest hits. And be sure to bring your dancin’ shoes to the Engine Room Bar to enjoy a live set by their talented musicians. (B, L, D) Day 4: Vicksburg, Mississippi Vicksburg perfectly blends Southern culture and heritage with exciting modern attractions. As a major battle site during the Civil War, this Southern town carries a history unlike any other. Learn about the historic conflicts of the city, taste its cuisine, visit the many museums and pick out the perfect souvenir. (B, L, D) Day 5: Natchez, Mississippi It seems as if history fell asleep and awoke unscathed by the changing of times in this charming river town, founded in 1716, making it the oldest city on the Mississippi River. It’s known for its elegance, hospitality and impressive preservation of history – found on every street corner. Enjoy the unique shops, restaurants, museums and historic homes, all of which inspired Hugh Bayless to include Natchez in his book “The 100 Best Towns in America.” (B, L, D) Day 6: St. Francisville, Louisiana St. Francisville today is a testament to the lifestyle of a bygone era, with its plethora of charming antebellum-period homes and striking architecture. With over 140 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, beautiful plantation homes nestled in the rolling countryside and bustling Main Street shops, this quaint town situated on the bluffs of the Mississippi River has a style all its own. (B, L, D) Day 7: Baton Rouge, Louisiana Baton Rouge grants a strikingly different experience from the small-town stops throughout the journey. In this energetic port, history-facing museums and landmarks fraternize with forward-looking art and industry to offer a personalized encounter for each visitor. Choose to hop on one of their deluxe motorcoaches and explore the diversity this city has to offer, or take a walk down the river path alongside the boat. (B, L, D) Day 8: Nottoway American Queen Steamboat Company features an exclusive port at Nottoway. While the boat is docked, visit the sugarcane estate – the largest standing antebellum mansion in the South. Nottoway is an intricate building with impressive detail. Original furnishings mingle with era-appropriate antiques to create an atmosphere that does justice to the home’s original ambiance. It is fascinating history and luxurious aesthetic packaged in Southern hospitality. (B, L, D) Day 9: New Orleans Upon disembarkation in New Orleans, our private motorcoach transfers us a few miles out of the city, where we board our private airboats. Cruise through the lush Louisiana bayou on an airboat ride that combines classic southern scenery with the excitement of speeding through the waterways. Keep an eye out for wild alligators on this exciting adventure! After a Cajun lunch, we return to the city for a short walk through the Saint Louis Cemetery. This unique cemetery consists of above-ground vaults constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries. These tombs are magnificent works of art, honoring those residing within. Next we get a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the larger-than-life Mardi Gras Parade Floats. See how the event comes together during this fun and informative tour. Explore the famous French Quarter from the comfort of a horse-drawn carriage, as your horse handler shares fun facts about the city. The evening is yours to explore the French Quarter, filled with restaurants, music and nightlife. (B, L) Day 10: Depart New Orleans This morning we visit the National WWII Museum, the top-rated tourist destination in New Orleans and ranked the 8th favorite museum in the world by TripAdvisor! Experience World War II¬, from Home Front efforts to the combat encounters of the American soldier abroad. Transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)

We had a great time...for all ages! Mr.Smith was our tour guide and he was absolutely amazing! I have no idea how he can memorize all the awesome history of Memphis he shared with all of us! His voice and personality made the tour seem so quick! We were never bored!! All the staff from beginning to end were all very pleasant! The vessel made you feel like you were on a real back in the day river boat which we appreciate!! The gas fume smell was a little strong if you sat in the rear, but we were totally fine! Make sure you read all of their directions on where to park, time to be there and definitely purchase the photo they take of you & your family! They have some decent snacks, nachos and hotdogs along with plenty of drink options! Make sure to bring cash so you can share the love!! Great experience and definitely worth tipping in my opinion! Even if it is a hot day don't worry about where you are sitting, the ride is nice...stay in the shade and you will be just fine! Enjoy!!

Excellent Cruise - Parking Situation Not Good We purchased tickets online before the cruise, but you can buy them at boarding time, one hour before departing. They advertise that there is no parking on site and direct you to park in a pay lot across from the Visitors Center located down the street from the cruise boat dock. When we visited the Visitors Center, they said we could park there for free and walk to the boats. The cruise boat website says if you have a person who needs assistance, you can drop them off at the boarding area near the boat. (Note: we saw people going on the cruise park right in front of the cruise boat on the riverbank and walk right onto the boat and nobody chased them away. Just sayin'.) Here's the problem. The riverbank by the boat dock slopes at a pretty steep angle from the street down to the water. To make matters worse, the bank is covered in cobblestones. Some drivers may not be comfortable driving on that angle and on the stones down towards the dock. Now once you get close to the dock, there is a concrete sidewalk, again sloped at a good angle, that leads you to the boat. The other choice is drop off a person at the street level. They would have to make it down maybe 20 stairs, then to the long sidewalk. Either way, this is not a good setup for anyone that needs assistance. I suggest you go drive and look at the drop off area first before buying your tickets to make sure you can handle it as tickets are non-refundable. The other consideration is for people parking in either the Visitors Center of the paid lot. It's a bit of a walk to the docks. Make sure you are up to it. As for the cruise, it's wonderful. Boarding starts one hour before departure time. There are three decks. The lowest deck has the restrooms (nice flush toilets) and a bar that sells snacks, some light hot food, beer, wine, cocktails, soda, water and more. This is an enclosed space that is air conditioned with tables and chairs. The second level, accessed by stairways on both sides, front and back, has many tables and chairs and has open sides allowing a nice breeze to pass through on a warm day. I did not go up to the upper deck, but I think it is mostly open. The bar is open right at boarding time so you can get drinks and find a place to sit for the cruise. Shortly before departure, a fine gentlemen starts talking on a microphone on the second level. He is the tour guide. He goes over safety concerns, some rules and starts the cruise talk. He does so for about the next hour, telling us all kinds of history about Memphis - the river, music, food, people, etc. The cruise boat first heads south, then turns to go north, then returns to the dock. All the while, the muddy and debris laden Mississippi River rolls on by. It is amazing. During the last half hour, our tour guide goes below and plays music recordings that made Memphis famous. We have been on several river cruises like this and this was one of the best aside from the parking issue. There is no doubt that you will really enjoy this.

So I went on the dinner music cruise with my 13 year old to celebrate mother's day and my birthday... **The two stars is for the band ONLY! They did an amazing job! The food was bad. I mean embarrassingly TERRIBLE! They slapped canned baked beans on a paper plate with EXTRA dry slimyish chicken breast, and generic boxed Mac and cheese, with an extra peppery pulled pork like substance on a Walmart bun.... The "desert" was hospital banana pudding. Nothing tasted good and most of our food ended up in the TRASH. The steamboat is old and rusty. And you're swaying from side to side. It's scary getting on from that super long steep hill. They force you to take pictures (even though EVERYONE has a phone). It is NOT handicap or elderly friendly. I've literally witnessed everyone over 50 struggling to get on. Cocktails are overpriced. Oh, did I mention the food was DISGUSTING! All in all, it definitely was not worth the money and I wouldn't do it again. However, I did enjoy the band and the sunset view.

1st time in Memphis. We loved the boat ride and the history of the city. Hope to be back soon

This was a bucket list item for my wife. The emcee was very knowledgeable and the view was breathtaking. If you need any type of assistance this can be a challenge as the walkway to enter is very steep.

I can smell the muddy Mississippi when I look at my pictures of this cruise. Which I love. We took an afternoon cruise on the Memphis Queen Riverboat. It didn't go far or fast, but it did offer beautiful views of the skyline and bridges. The educational tour was okay. The music was too loud (I feel so OLD saying that). It had lawn chairs and basic tables. It was not comfortable or classy. Not our favorite boat cruise, but it was our first time on the Mississippi.

This was only my second time in Memphis, so we wanted to check out some of the local attractions! Having recently done one of these at the Chicago River, it left some things to be desired, mainly there wasn't much to see while on the river. There just hasn't been that much built on the TN side of the river and nothing on the AR side. Despite the lack of views other than the Bass Pro Pyramid lol, the tour guide was a lot of fun and it was enjoyable to hear more about the history of the city. We took our niece and nephew who are 9 and 7, and they may have been just a bit young for this. It ends up being quite a bit of time if you get there early as requested. It would have been good to bring some cards or something to help pass the time as we waited about an hour to leave the dock. They had a good selection of drinks and snacks to keep them occupied though. We appreciated the opportunity to learn, and it was fun when the tour guide also played as DJ with some tunes!

Rollin... Rollin... Rollin down the river! And that's exactly what we did. Beautiful spring day in late April. Affordable. Lasted 90 minutes. It is good for all ages (we ranged from 10-75 years old.) This is a partially guided tour (he did take a break.) He was comical but informative. You will learn some Memphis history, about some Memphis folks and about modern day Memphis. You will cruise into Arkansas for a few minutes. You are not going to see a whole because across the river is plain land and forestry. It was a nice thing to do as a tourist. There was music so we danced a little. My daughter had the chance to hang out with other kids. At the landing it placed us near a modern playground. Overall the experience for us was well worth it. Heck we don't have riverboats in Rhode Island!

T he more than 2,300-mile Mississippi River invites travelers to discover its multifaceted heritage, with a vast range of deeply rooted culture, music and history. A cruise is a fantastic way to discover many of the riverfront cities on a single trip, from the comfort of your modern riverboat or traditional paddle-wheeler.

The following Mississippi River cruise itineraries can help you choose from cruises of various lengths and options for the Lower and Upper Mississippi. Note that all fares are listed as double occupancy (based on two people per cabin), and that they might not reflect taxes, port fees or gratuities. American Cruise Lines

American Cruise Lines operates small ships accommodating between 90 and 180 passengers that are built, flagged and crewed in the U.S. – and it's the only company in the world operating a 100% U.S.-flagged fleet of riverboats and cruise ships. ACL's itineraries traverse waterways across 35 states, with 11 itineraries dedicated to the Mississippi River. Cruisers can choose to sail on modern riverboats with a sleek interior design or while away their time aboard classic paddle-wheelers reminiscent of days gone by.

ACL offers variety as well as versatility: This line boasts both the longest and shortest sailings on this list with cruises ranging from eight to 60 days in length, including The Great United States. This inaugural 60-day voyage spans four major rivers and 20 states, making it the longest U.S. river cruise in history.

Complimentary hotel and transportation packages are available from every departure city before your cruise. You can book certain premium packages for added perks, such as two nights spent next door to Graceland in Memphis – with VIP tickets and a city tour included in the price.

This epic journey showcases the natural beauty and living history of the U.S. from sea to shining sea. The sailing embarks in Portland, Oregon , on the Pacific Coast before traveling east to the Atlantic shore along four major rivers that highlight some of the country's most stunning coastlines. Viking River Cruises

Viking is no stranger to sailing Europe's rivers; the brand is synonymous with river cruising worldwide aboard its dozens of ships. However, Viking River Cruises is a newcomer to U.S. rivers, with its purpose-built ship: the 386-passenger Viking Mississippi. Looking to carve out its own niche in the American river cruising category, Viking claims it has the region's "first truly modern cruise ship" with its distinct Scandinavian design and expansive top sun deck with an infinity plunge pool.

Viking's mostly all-inclusive fares include a complimentary excursion in each port, destination lectures and performances, beer and wine at meals, free Wi-Fi, specialty coffees and teas, and more. The line offers five itineraries ranging in length from eight to 22 days along the Mighty Mississippi. Pre- and post-cruise extensions can be added to all voyages for an additional expense.

New Orleans & Southern Charms: Round-trip from New Orleans

Price: Starts at $3,999 per person

If you don't know which Viking Mississippi itinerary to choose, start here. A round-trip voyage from New Orleans is convenient for booking flights and offers an excellent opportunity to extend your stay in NOLA. Six guided tours are included across eight days, from the historic estates of Natchez to Vicksburg National Military Park. A stop in St. Francisville gives you the chance to marvel at some of the 140-plus buildings it has on the National Register of Historic Places.

If you extend your stay in New Orleans, plan to sample the local Creole cuisine and take in some of the city's nightly jazz entertainment. In the morning, grab a beignet and a steaming cup of chicory coffee au lait at the original Café du Monde in the French Market.

2024 dates: This itinerary is available on select dates in February, November and December.

Heart of the Delta: New Orleans to Memphis

Length: Nine days

Price: Starts at $4,299 per person

Similar to its round-trip New Orleans Southern Charms itinerary, the Heart of the Delta cruise begins in New Orleans and calls on the same five ports, before sailing through the Lower Mississippi and disembarking in Memphis. Enjoy scenic views of the serpentine river route – perhaps with expert commentary or a local cooking demonstration – and then take time to explore the birthplace of the Memphis blues, which is also a center of civil rights history.

2024 dates: In 2024, this cruise is available in February, March, April, May, June and November.

America's Great River: St. Paul to New Orleans

Price: Starts at $12,999 per person

This Viking voyage sails from St. Paul to New Orleans on a two-week trip that calls on 13 ports with one day of scenic sailing. This itinerary combines the best of Viking's other Mississippi sailings for an all-encompassing Midwestern and Southern experience with 12 guided tours.

Included in the fare is a tour of Graceland; a stroll through small-town Burlington, Iowa, to see Snake Alley, deemed the most crooked street in the world; and a visit to the National Eagle Center of Red Wing, among others. For an additional fee, hop on an airboat ride through the Atchafalaya Swamp in Baton Rouge or tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery of St. Louis.

2024 dates: Viking has availability for this itinerary in July, September and October.
