35 posts · Joined 2009. #17 · Apr 14, 2010. Shoal draft for thin water, I looked into Schock 35's and J 35's after I sold my much loved J 29. Because of the draft (close to 7 feet) my docking would have went from $900.00 to $3800.00 for the summer and another $1K for the winter.

  2. Schock 35?

J-35 is a PHRF racer in So Cal. The J may have core problems. The Schock may have structural issues. Either can run up the budget. Be careful and get a comprehensive survey and be prepared to negotiate the price downward to compensate for the repairs. Good Luck!! Keep your first choice in mind as a Plan B. 1.

  3. Schock 35... opinion?

The Shock 35 is a nice lightweight coastal racer/cruiser. It's not what most folks would consider a BLUEWATER boat. They are cheap enough but pay special attention to core issues. Also, be aware that most of these boat were rode hard and put away wet.

  4. Schock 35 vs J/35

The Schock insists on proper sail trim. The cockpit on the Schock is WAY better. Long and open vs the small bathtub of a cockpit on the J/35. Our saloon table comes out and mounts in the cockpit if people want to wine and get cheesy. All in all it works great for us, and is a relatively fast and relatively cheap boat.

  5. Schock 35

Sailing a Schock 35 this past weekend, and really enjoyed it... nice boat. We're looing for a little more speed, and wondering if anyone knows how to point higher and go faster on it. I'm also looking for any tips to make me look like a genius! We sailed with 8 both days, windspeed was hovering...

  6. W.D. Schock 35

The Schock 35 is an evolution of the Santana 35, with a new bow section, longer waterline and a masthead rig. They rate significantly faster than the old Santana 35, but on deck and in the cockpit are essentially the same boat.

  7. SCHOCK 35

Based on earlier SANTANA 35 (1978), with deeper keel and taller (masthead) rig. An updated model was being built as of 2011.

  12. Schock 35

The Schock 35 is a light sailboat which is a very high performer. It is very stable / stiff and has a low righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a racing boat.

  14. Schock 35

Does anyone have any experience racing a Schock 35 in PHRF? In my area it would rate a 78. I know many race one design and I am curious how well it competes in PHRF with that rating.

  15. SCHOCK OR SANTANA 35 ANY THOUGHTS??

Schock 35 Class rules require Dacron mainsails.... 3DL mains are not allowed. I sail in So. Cal., and haven't seen a Schock 35 with a non-Dacron Main in 5 years..

  16. Santana 35

    Santana 35 is a 35′ 0″ / 10.7 m monohull sailboat designed by W. Shad Turner and built by Schock W.D. between 1978 and 1983.

  17. J35 vs. Shock 35

    39. CFP, CT. Jun 30, 2009. #5. Between the J and S, the Schock would be a much better boat for the conditions you see in your area. It was designed in Socal to compete against the J35's. In LIS, we find that with equal crews, the Schock is better in under 10, even in 10-15, and advantage to the J in over 15.

  18. Schock Santana questions

Schock is the boat building company. They built several lines of boats; Schock, Santana and Wavelength to name a few in much the same way that Pearson built Ensigns, Tritons and Vanguards or Beneteau builds Oceanis, Idylle and Firsts. 21. Schock 35 dilemma

Feb 10, 2023. #9. I have the Perkins Perama M30 in my Schock 35 (1991 Hull 72). Great engine and can motor at 7 comfortably. I would suspect that would be pretty close to drop-in and shouldn't be hard to find one used. Should you end up scrapping the boat, please let me know if you are willing to sell any parts first.

  22. Schock 35

Yours may be a well-sailed J30, but an equally well-sailed Schock 35 should beat you boat for boat quite handily. In theory, applying the handicap to the J30 elapsed time will nearly equalize the result.

  23. Schock 36

Schock built three boats in the 35-36 range. The Santana 35 and Schock 36 use the same hull and were really very good sailing boats pretty much on a par with a J-35 in terms of speed but not build quality.
