A Guide to Every Captain in the ‘Below Deck’ Franchise Over the Years: From Below Deck’s Captain Lee to Below Deck Med’s Captain Sandy

A Guide to Every Captain in the 'Below Deck' Franchise Over the Years- From Below Deck's Captain Lee to Below Deck Med's Captain Sandy 806

Over the years, Below Deck fans have become familiar with many captains — and some made more memorable impressions than others.

Below Deck , which premiered in 2013, explored the glamorous world of yachting and the not as beautiful behind-the-scenes situations that the crew must handle. The first season introduced viewers to Captain Lee Rosbach and his strict approach to leadership.

Ahead of the show’s 10th season, Captain Lee reflected on his Below Deck legacy.

“I’m not [different] as far as the way that I operate, my boat, my yacht, my ship. I don’t think I’ve changed at all. I still run what I call a tight ship and it’s based on a meritocracy,” he exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2022. “See, if you get your job based on merit, you keep your job based on merit and therefore you will lose your job for lack of merit. There’s a few other things that you could do, but basically it’s lack of merit, so that’ll cost you your job.”

Captain Sandy Yawn , for her part, has also offered a glimpse at her hands-off approach when it comes to creating restrictions for her team.

“What they do once they are off the vessel in their personal lives is their personal decision. So, if they want to hook up with clients after they’re signed off the vessel, go for it,” she detailed to Us in July 2022. “I’m all about love. I found love. I want everybody to have love, but you can’t do it in a professional setting.”

Captain Lee Rosbach

The Below Deck OG, who is otherwise known as the Stud of the Sea , has been with the series since it debuted in 2013. Captain Lee's most notable costars have been chief stew Kate Chastain , bosun Eddie Lucas , chef Rachel Hargrove and chef Ben Robinson .

The Bravo personality briefly took a break at the beginning of season 8 due to health issues. He was also missing in action in the first episode of season 9.

While Lee returned for season 10, he exited the charter early during a December 2022 episode amid ongoing mobility issues . He was ultimately replaced by Captain Sandy.

Us broke the news in February 2023 that Lee wouldn't return for season 11 of Below Deck. He will be replaced by Captain Kerry. Lee has moved on to other opportunities including Oxygen's Deadly Waters.

Captain Mark Howard

Below Deck Mediterranean introduced fans to new yachting locations — and a new captain. Mark Howard appeared on the Ionian Princess alongside chief stew Hannah Ferrier and returning chef Ben. He was replaced by Captain Sandy in future seasons of the series.

In December 2021, Us confirmed that the former Below Deck Med star died naturally of hypertensive cardiovascular disease . According to the coroner's report, chronic alcoholism was listed as a contributory cause of his passing.

Captain Sandy Yawn

Captain Sandy took over in season 2 of Below Deck Mediterranean as the Sirocco yacht sailed throughout Croatia. The Florida native has remained a staple of the second spinoff series — with Hannah, bosun Malia White , chef Adam Glick and bosun João Franco as her recurring crew members.

During season 5, Sandy received backlash for her decision to fire fan-favorite Hannah for having Valium and a CBD vape pen in her cabin. Despite fans' disapproval, Sandy has continued to stand by the choice.

Sandy shocked viewers when she temporarily replaced Lee during season 10 of Below Deck .

After the premiere of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Captain Glenn Shephard quickly became the face of the third Below Deck spinoff. During his time onboard, Glenn has repeatedly counted on chief engineer Colin Macrae , first officer Gary King and chief stew Daisy Kelliher .

Captain Jason Chambers

Below Deck Down Under , which is set in Australia, was all about shaking up the Below Deck franchise in a different location — and with a memorable new captain. Captain Jason Chambers quickly won over the hearts of the crew and viewers with his firm but friendly demeanor on Motor Yacht Thalassa.

The captain previously made headlines in 2019 after his boat Superyacht Moatize crashed in Northern Queensland. Jason is set to return for a second season of Below Deck Down Under with chief stew Aesha Scott by his side.

Captain Kerry Titheradge

The fourth Below Deck spinoff focuses on adventurous charters in the Fjords of Norway with Captain Kerry Titheradge at the helm. During the first season, which debuted in November 2022, Kerry was joined by chief stew Faye Clarke , chef Jessica Condy and bosun Lewis Lupton .

In February 2023, Us confirmed that Kerry would be taking over Below Deck and he made his debut during season 11.

Captain Glenn On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 - Exclusive Interview

Captain Glenn smiling on boat

"Below Deck Sailing Yacht"  is returning for its 4th season, with Captain Glenn Shephard back at the helm of Parsifal III. Season 4 sees the crew set sail in Sardinia, Italy, where they'll face everything from unexpected hook-ups to terrifying guest injuries to potential crew mutinies and collisions. Basically, Captain Glenn has his work cut out for him, especially as he welcomes back several fan-favorite crew members.

The "Below Deck" spin-off quickly garnered passionate fans, many of whom are eager to find out if chief stew Daisy Kelliher and first mate Gary King will ever become more than friends. While Captain Glenn generally tries to stay out of crew relationships, his position as captain means that he can't help but get involved when his employees create drama on board. The List caught up with Captain Glenn to find out all about "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" Season 4, what he thinks about Gary and Daisy , and what's going on in his own love life.

Get ready for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4

What can you tell us about "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" Season 4?

It's going to be great. It takes place in Sardinia. I've got the dream team there, which is fantastic, and there are also some very interesting new people, new additions to the team. Some crazy stuff happens, which is typical, unfortunately, but I think the audience is going to find it really interesting. We definitely have some challenges. There are some interesting dynamics between the different crew members, but they're all really good people, and it's a good season.

You've got Daisy Kelliher, Gary King, and Colin Macrae back for another season. What makes them such a good team?

I remember the first time I met those guys, which was the beginning of our 2nd season. It's hard bringing on new crew and feeling each other out and figuring out what they're like. I got really lucky because as far as department heads, they're so good at their jobs, and they're such cool people and crew members. I'm really happy to have them back. If I can have my way, I would have them forever because it's such a great team. They're really, really good.

They're a lot of fun, which is important because it's a very hard job that we do, and you have to keep the mood right so people don't get burned out and they feel positive about their job. That's the way I try to do it when I'm dealing with them, and it is what I hope they will do, especially Gary and Daisy, who have a few people working in their departments [whom] they're leading. I'm really happy to have them.

On why a crew member might get fired

What would any of your crew have to do to get fired?

There's a million things they can do to get fired, but I don't think it's in them. I've never gotten close [to firing] any of those guys. There was a time in Season 2 where there were crew in the same department, but there was some romance going on too. That is one thing [crew could do to get fired]. If, for example, someone is leader of the deck, [and] they've got someone in their department and they're coming on too strong in a personal way, if it does not stop immediately, that's something that will get someone fired.

It's a touchy area. You have to be really careful because crew work and live very closely together, and sometimes that's who you become attracted to — someone you're working with or you see on a daily basis. Sometimes romances bloom. But one thing that would never be accepted would be someone in a position of authority trying to coerce someone who is reliant on them for their employment or something.

I remember thinking about that at the time, that if the tables had been turned, this could be totally different. In that case, it was the junior person in the department who was instigating more, so it wasn't the greatest situation. But had it been the other way around, it's a totally different thing. An example of something that gets somebody in a lot of trouble would be that behavior. We wouldn't tolerate that.

Everyone has to feel comfortable in their job and know that they're there to do a job. Anything else happens on the side, but they don't have to worry about that. If it's something they don't want to happen, then it's not gonna happen. [With] the mentality of the people that I work with, that's obvious to them. They understand all that. They're not going to be surprised if that were to happen. They know that, and they're very careful of it. That's the world we live in today. You have to be very respectful of all of that stuff.

Captain Glenn talks Gary and Daisy's connection

You mostly stay out of the drama on board, but do you have an opinion about Gary and Daisy's connection?

That's a tough one. I love them. I love them both. Obviously, there's something there between them, but it's hard to put your finger on. They're both flirtatious, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Have you received any advice from Captain Sandy or Captain Lee throughout your time on the show? What kind of relationship do you have with them?

I have a great relationship [with them]. I chatted with both of them before I started doing Season 1. I ask someone who has that experience, "What's it like?" and they basically both told me, "Just be yourself." It was amazing advice because you're going to be in front of the camera. You don't want to be up here boring or weird or whatever. We're not actors; we're people doing a job that happens to be filmed and shown on television, and the best advice [is] "Just be yourself." The audience is going to see whoever you are anyway; it'll come through. That was the best advice.

Are there any celebrities who you'd like to welcome on board as guests in the future?

That's a tough one. There are some celebrities that I've met over the years. Because of the kind of situation it is, we don't normally talk about who they are because of discretion. But for sure, there's some people out there that I'm a big fan of that I would love to have on board as guests.

On meeting his girlfriend online

Fans were really excited when you went public with your girlfriend. Are you happy to tell us how you met?

We met online. A lot of people meet [that way]. Years ago, meeting online was really strange, but nowadays, everyone's so busy, and meeting online gives you a chance, for example, to see the person, because looks are important. People want to see what the person looks like.

But more than that, in a club or at the grocery store, you can see what they look like, but you have no idea what they're like or what their likes are. That's the benefit of online. You can learn a little bit about them before you meet so you know if there's something there, at least as far as taking that first step to go have a coffee together and see if there's a spark.

That's how we met. We were both living in northern Italy at the time.

Is it difficult being on the show and doing this job that takes you away and having a long-distance relationship?

We met before I did any of the show. We met four or five years ago — coming up to five years now. My normal job is what you see on television, but you see me in one place for a season. Long-distance relationships and working on boats — I don't really date any [crew members] because I'm a little bit beyond that in age. It's more likely that if I have a partner, they will be living ashore, and then you do have to go away for long periods.

At the time that I met her, my life was changing, and I was able to work less and have more free time. So I forced myself, [and said] "Okay, don't be lazy about a relationship. Go out there and make it happen." And luckily, I met her. It's worked out really well.

You'll never see Captain Glenn on Summer House

We've seen "Below Deck" members jump to other reality TV shows after they've left the show. Could you see yourself starring on a different reality show? If so, which one?

That's a tough question. I don't think so. It was never my goal to be on TV. It's fun to get recognized occasionally. The show is on Netflix in Europe as of a month ago, so I do get recognized in Spain, France, Italy more often now, but it was never my goal. I like my anonymity. It's cool in Europe, but I'm not really a TV personality. I don't think it makes sense for me. I'll keep going with "Below Deck" as long as it goes because that's my job.

Maybe if there was a travel reality show, that would be right up my alley. I would love that. But "Summer House" ... I'm not going to be on the "Housewives." It's not really my thing to be on television. I lucked into this because of the job that I was already doing. I've got a face for radio; I shouldn't be on television, but somehow I am. I'm glad I do it now.

Do you have any favorite memories from filming "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" so far?

Some of the crew days off were a lot of fun. We did some cool stuff where we were able to use the boat. We're able to chill out, get to know each other a little bit better, and have a whole day doing it without having to think about serving guests or getting the boat ready for the next day. Those are highlights.

[When we're] saying goodbye at the end of the season, it's fun to have achieved that and finish the season, but it's also a bit melancholy, a bit sad to have everyone scatter. Some of them, especially the dream team and different people that I've worked with, you get to see again. Some you only get to follow on social media, so it can be a bit sad.

We did a race a couple of seasons ago with another boat, and that was a highlight. That was a lot of fun. Oh yeah, enjoyed that.

Is there anything else we should know about the new season?

After doing this a few times now, I think that this is going to be a really good season. People are going to enjoy it. A lot of interesting stuff happens on the romance side, it's a bit crazy on the normal work side, and [on] the boat side, there's some crazy stuff that happens. It's really going to be good. I hope everyone watches.

This interview has been edited for clarity.

Captain Sandy Yawn on All Things Yachting, Work-life Balance, and the New Season of 'Below Deck Med'

Captain Sandy Yawn shares how she keeps in touch with loved ones, her career in yachting, and more with T+L ahead of the Bravo show's season premiere.

While Captain Sandy Yawn is at the helm of a super yacht for months at a time, she relies on an everyday, tried-and-true method for keeping in touch with loved ones on land: FaceTime

The long-time Below Deck Mediterranean captain, who recently got engaged to partner Leah Shafer, knows a thing or two about traveling for work. In fact filming can keep her away from home for two months at a time, but the couple finds a way to make it work.

“We FaceTime. Leah’s busy, she has her own job and her own career,” Yawn told Travel + Leisure during a recent interview, while chatting about the newest season of the show premiering on Monday. “This is the first time she’s ever come out to see me, which is really great. We're touring London now… It’s awesome. I love London, I feel like it's my second home.”

Of course, figuring out how to strike a work/life balance hasn’t been Yawn’s only challenge in her decades-long and storied career. The captain first started working on boats when she answered an ad for a boat washer in 1990. And as a woman, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she now stands as a role model.

“To be a beacon for others is really cool,” Yawn said. “But I never led with that: I didn't lead with who I was sleeping with, I never did. I didn't lead with my gender — although I didn't get hired for a job because of my gender…. For some reason they didn't think I could be a captain of their boat. I don't really understand that mentality.”

With Captain Sandy Yawn

Where in the world do you prefer to sail the most?

I love, honestly, the Mediterranean.

What is your key to getting rid of motion sickness?

Ginger root. Just slice the ginger and eat it.

Is there an item that you never travel without?

Berocca [it's a] UK brand, actually. It’s like Emergen-C, but better, and it gives you energy.

Is there a dream trip that you have in mind?

Alaska. I've never been, I want to go. I want to see those animals. I love animals, I love nature, [and] I love the wildlife. So yeah, Alaska, on a cruise. I would love that.

What's your favorite travel memory?

There are so many. London, I guess. Coming here, honestly, is my favorite travel memory because there's so much to offer. And I'm a kid at heart, I love going to the dungeons of London, the Tower of London, and doing all those crazy things like the history walking tours. I love that, it's incredible.

Celeb Check-in

Over the years, Yawn said she has seen a shift in the industry, especially following the debut of the Below Deck franchise (which also includes Below Deck Down Under, Below Deck Adventure, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht ).

“Back in the day, people hated the show. They didn't like it [because] it highlighted, they felt, the worst of the worst,” she said. “I said ‘no, it highlights exactly what captains go through and what we have to deal with.’ Let the owners watch these shows, let them see so we get a raise.”

And she also feels it has had a positive impact on the destinations they visit.

Not only has it had a positive impact on the industry, it also gives a toursm boost to the destinations that they visit.

"Every time we highlight an area, wherever we visit on a boat, they get more tourism, that's a fact," she said," mentioning that she's met people traveling who are going to Croatia for the first time thanks to the show.

"I guarantee if you go back to Malta, they'll say their tourism increased. Probably by 50 percent," she added.

On what will be season eight of Below Deck Mediterranean , Bravo viewers will watch Yawn and her crew navigate the Italian Riviera on the 180-foot M/Y Mustique. The new season promises “unprecedented staffing changes” as well as the return of some Below Deck alums like stews Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen as well as Tumi Mhlongo and Luka Brunton, who both first appeared on Below Deck Down Under .

“[The] Italian Riviera is absolutely spectacular,” she said. “I also love the food there, the vibe, and I think the viewers are really going to enjoy the crew this year.”

And while viewers are pretty much guaranteed to see some crazy antics, Yawn said she’s not privy to them.

“I don't know what happens below deck until I watch the show because I don't live downstairs, I live on the bridge deck,” she said. “They've learned not to come around me with that behavior. Also, I think when you're at work and it's your boss, you're not going to be acting like that in front of the person you work for.”

And as for crazy guest requests? Yawn said there’s no such thing.

“There are no crazy requests. We’re in the superyacht industry — where there is money, we grant their request. It's like we're the little genie in the bottle,” she said. “People want truffles flown in for their dinner and it's morning time from Paris, fresh… Honestly, we're used to it. So to us, it's not crazy or outlandish, it is part of our industry.”

But chartering a boat doesn’t just have to be for the rich and famous. Yawn said “there’s boats for every budget from small to larger.” And when travelers are on a yacht, they should take advantage of every option available to them.

“Use the boat, use the water toys, and stay on board and utilize everything that we have to offer because it only lasts for the time you're on board and then you're gone,” she said.

The Golden Bachelor: Leslie Fhima Made A Career Announcement (How She's Healing From Her Split From Gerry Turner)

I'm worried 1000-lb sisters could end after season 6, the bachelor's daisy kent reveals surprising tactic producers use on shy contestants.

The yacht that Captain Lee Rosbach is sailing on this season of Below Deck is the notorious My Seanna. While fans of the show haven't seen the yacht since season six in 2018, it was quite the impressive power vessel. It looks like Valor is taking a back seat for this season.

On this season of the popular Bravo series, My Seanna is setting sailing once again with Captain Lee and the crew from the show. Even though it has been a couple of years since the fans have seen the massive yacht, they do not forget all the great times the crew had on it during season 6. Captain Lee took the My Seanna ship all the way to Tahiti on season 6, which made for quite the picturesque season. Now My Seanna is back on the water, sailing through the Caribbean sea with the crew from Below Deck .

According to Mega Yacht News , the My Seanna yacht  seen on  Below Deck was built 20 years ago by Delta Marine and previously named Gallant Lady. Back the yacht was 160 feet, but was refitted in 2014 to the 185-foot mega yacht its appears as today. The Yacht Charter Fleet added that the interior and exterior designs of the boat were designed by Glade Johnson Design. The overall look and style of the yacht feels expensive and luxurious thanks to the fabulous designs the vessel was given. Not only is the boat beautifully design, but it is massive enough to fit up to 12 guests. The yacht includes six rooms, including a master suite, one VIP stateroom and 4 double cabins. Not to mention, My Seanna can also hold up to 12 crew members on board to ensure a relaxed and luxurious experience. The price for a boat like this will cost you between $350,000 and $412,500 per week in the summertime and between $294,000 and $392,000 per week during the winter seasons.

Even the beautiful furnishings and lavish seating featured throughout the yacht  were carefully placed to create a rich and comfortable atmosphere. As for amenities, the My Seanna includes impressive leisure and entertainment facilities that make this boat ideal for socializing and entertaining with family and friends. The outdoor movie theatre allows for downtime with some company. Plus, there is a touch-and-go helipad for those who may enjoy a fun helicopter ride. Some other important amenities features that guests might enjoy are the air conditioning, WiFi connection on board, deck jacuzzi, and gym equipment. Not to mention, the boat also includes an array of amazing water toys such as several kayaks, a water trampoline, an inflatable waterslide, and more. As for the performance of the ship, My Seanna includes an ultra-modern stabilization system to help reduce the roll motion effect and for maximum comfort throughout one's charter trip. With a cruising speed of 13 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots, the My Seanna is ideal for those who love performance and luxury.

The My Seanna has been proven to be a reliable yacht for both its crew and its guest for many years. Since  Below Deck has used this ship more than once, proves just how great the My Seanna has been to those who have had the pleasure of chartering it. Maybe the fans will get another season next year with this fabulous yacht.

Below Deck Season 11 Supertease Sees Captain Kerry Taking Over for Captain Lee

“I am so f–-ing mad,” Kerry airs his frustrations to his chief stew in the preview for the Bravo hit. “It’s a total disregard for my authority"

below deck yacht captain

Captain Kerry Titheradge will have his hands full with both his crew and the boat’s primary charter guests when Below Deck returns to Bravo in February.

In a super teaser shared with PEOPLE ahead of the season 11 premiere, the new captain, who took over the reins from Captain Lee Robach , acknowledges he has “big shoes to fill,” but insists, “I like it that way” while addressing his crew for the first time.

“We all have good days full of rainbows and unicorns, and we have some bad days right?” Kerry says as an ominous version of “Row Row Row Your Boat” plays in the background. “I expect perfection.

“I know I have big shoes to fill, but I like it that way,” Kerry says. “You work hard, you'll be rewarded. You f— around? I will f—ing turn in a heartbeat.”

As the teaser shifts to a scene of Kerry attempting to pull the ship into the harbor, communication seems to be lost on the crew.

“I’m getting no information!” he shouts as a crew member attempts to keep the yacht from crashing into the dock with some equipment.

"Strap in,” chief stew Fraser Olender says to a gaggle of laughing guests. “It’s going to be a long ride.”

Despite their best efforts, mistakes are bound to be made. A montage of face plants, big spills, broken glasses and falls into the water begins to play on screen.

As hard as they work, the crew makes it a priority to play just as hard.

“One crew, one family bitches,” one steward claims as a clip of the group knocking down puns during a night of bowling and doing backflips off of boatside waterslides plays. “I feel the heat,” another says while rubbing their severely sunburned back.

With any charter, entitled primary guests are to be anticipated. One deckhand gets pushed to the limit after a guest demands she set his plate down “more quietly.”

“I’m about five minutes away from losing control,” she huffs in a conversation with cameras. “I’m right there.”

The bad behavior only ramps up when a pair of stewards notices that two guests are getting a little too hot and heavy in the hot tub. “I think the primaries are in the hot tub f—ing,” one says before the scene shifts to a clip of someone scrubbing down the area the next day. “Gross. Good god this is dirty, eh?”

As the teaser carries on, romance seems to be blooming on deck.

“I’m a little more hetero than I am bisexual,” stew Barbie Pascual tells the cameras as the group heads out for a night on the town. “I love badonk-a-donks.”

While Barbie and deckhand Kyle Stillie screw “like dogs,” Fraser is requested as one guest’s New Year’s kiss. Though he initially refuses to kiss a guest, the next scene transitions into a shot of him locking lips with a primary named Steven.

“What happens in Grenada, stays in f—ing Grenada!” a primary exclaims before clinking glasses at the dinner table.

Miscommunication runs rampant, as one deckhand reveals his difficulties of converting feet to meters in his head and someone claims, “I’m sorry but I feel dumber when I’m around him already.”

Tensions between the crew run high, and Kerry butts head with his chain of command.

“I am so f–ing mad,” Kerry tells Fraser, “It’s a total disregard for my authority.”

“New captain, new rules,” the words flash on screen as the trailer concludes. “ Ship just got real.”

The Truth About Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Captain Glenn

Captain Glenn Shephard headshot

Move over Captain Lee and Captain Sandy , because Captain Glenn Shephard is back! In 2020, Bravo introduced loyal viewers to Shephard in the first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . The captain is the only member from season 1 who is making a return to the series in season 2 as a cast of fresh-faced yachties are joining him. According to the Bravo website, the new crew includes chef Natasha De Bourg, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher , Chief Engineer Colin Macrae, First Mate Gary King, Second Stewardess Dani Soares, Third Stewardess Alli Dore, and Deckhands Sydney Zaruba, and Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux.

Shephard shared his thoughts with The Daily Dish on how he feels about getting an entirely new crew in the show's sophomore season and how he felt about season one's cast. "I've been lucky to work with a lot of great crew. It's definitely not one and done," he dished. "When I find the really good ones I do my best to keep them around. Even if they leave for a time, I try to get them back on board. It's great having people that know the boat well."

While Shephard will have his work cut out for him with an entirely new staff, he has plenty of experience at the helm of luxury yachts. Keep scrolling to find out the truth about Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's Captain Glenn.

Captain Glenn is a seasoned pro in the yachting world

Captain Glenn Shephard has had an impressive career in yachting, and he has the resume to prove it. According to Distractify , the Montreal native has been in the industry for 20 years. His Bravo profile indicates that he fell in love with the profession while working as a deckhand on a 50-foot classic sailboat. After that, he never looked back. According to Decider , Shephard spent nine months on a motor yacht before switching to a sailboat; since then, it's all literally been smooth sailing. Shephard has served as the captain on Parsifal III for 11 years, which means that he's hosted more rich guests than we could even begin to count.

When asked about the differences between superyachts and motorboats, Shephard explained it like the pro he is. "Sailing, it's about the journey, getting there. It's fun, it's more physical, and I guess there's a little more romance to the sailing side of it. And it's nothing against motor yachts, motor yachts are great," he told Distractify . "But I've always preferred, all my buddies, all my friends, we're all into sailing. It's a smaller segment of the superyacht industry, but there's something special about it."

In true captain fashion, Captain Glenn also shared that tipping boats are nothing to worry about, simply calling it "another day at the office."

Taking readers behind the scenes, YachtCharterFleet identifies the yachts featured on the show, as well as those which have appeared on the celebrated spin-off series Below Deck: Mediterranean , Below Deck: Sailing , Below Deck: Down Under and the latest iteration, Below Deck: Adventure .

Bravo’s hit reality TV series Below Deck chronicles the lives of crew members who work and reside aboard a luxury yacht during the charter season.

Each season features a different crew configuration, and the episodes show how the crew members interact and deal with personal issues alongside their working lives. The seasons are filmed over six weeks, with every episode featuring a new group of charter guests.

Getting even closer to these Below Deck superstars, we take a look at each of the stand-out features of every yacht that has appeared on the show.

IONIAN PRINCESS

Ionain Princess season 1 Below Deck Mediterranean

Premiering on 3 May 2016, the very first season of Below Deck: Mediterranean , a spin-off of the increasingly popular franchise, took to viewers' screens. This time the ‘yachties’ took care of their guests onboard the motor yacht IONIAN PRINCESS  in the Mediterranean  destination of Greece .

The starring yacht IONIAN PRINCESS was delivered from Christensen in 2005 and was later refit in 2016 and again in 2021. Truly opulent, she bears interiors that are sleekly finished with a range of warmly toned woods and plenty of comfortable furnishings. She also boasts one of the largest sundecks for a yacht of her size.

Below Deck: Mediterranean Season 1 yacht IONIAN PRINCESS is not currently available for private yacht charter vacations.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

This is the first time the Below Deck franchise branched away from gleaming motor yachts, with the various weather issues that sailing yachts have to contend with adding even more drama and excitement.

The design of luxury sailing yachts  also creates far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck . In general, sailing yachts tend to feature smaller galleys, compact stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, putting crew under increased pressure to deliver their signature silver service.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

In addition, deck crew are placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring increased accuracy and precision to safely maneuver and plenty of deck duties taking place in the midst of guest areas.

Amy Poehler wants to be a captain on Below Deck despite not knowing 'how to drive a boat'

"I'd fake it for a couple of days, I think, but then I'd get fired."

Emlyn Travis is a news writer at  Entertainment Weekly  with over five years of experience covering the latest in entertainment. A proud Kingston University alum, Emlyn has written about music, fandom, film, television, and awards for multiple outlets including MTV News,  Teen Vogue , Bustle, BuzzFeed,  Paper Magazine , Dazed, and NME. She joined EW in August 2022.

Amy Poehler ? We only know Captain Poehler.

The Inside Out 2 star confessed that she'd love to become the next great Below Deck captain — though she admitted that her lack of nautical training may end up sinking her new career before it begins.

"I would want to be the Captain on Below Deck, " she said during a recent Cosmopolitan U.K . video interview. "It would be hard for me to not be the Captain, but, again, I do not know how to drive a boat, so I feel like that would get in the way."

The actress-comedian added, "You wouldn't know at first. I'd fake it for a couple of days, I think, but then I'd get fired."

Poehler said she didn't think she'd last very long on a traditional reality competition series like Survivor, either. "I would definitely, probably, get out pretty early because I wouldn't be so great at… I tend to kind of tell people in front of their back things rather than behind their back," she joked. "So I think I'd get voted off pretty fast."

Still, she maintained, "I would leave with my head high. I don't think I would leave in disgrace — I hope not! The tribe will have spoken, and I will accept the tribe's word if they want to kick me out."

Below Deck , which began in 2013, follows the choppy waters of a captain and crew members as they live and work on a superyacht during the charter season. It has spawned several successful spinoffs over the course of its past 11 seasons, including Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Adventure.

The SNL alum explained that Below Deck is one of the few reality shows she'll actually sit down and watch. "The reason why I like it is 'cause I like the job that everybody has to do," she said. "Like, I care about whether or not they turn the boat over. I want to watch them clean the bathrooms and stuff. That's what I'm into."

Poehler added, “I don't get it with reality shows where everyone sits around and there's no job, they just go to dinner. That gets me very stressed."

Below Deck Yachts

Yacht with Below Deck logo

If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.

The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.

Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!

Below Deck Charter Yachts

Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.

But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?

Mediterranean 3Talisman MaitonTalisman Maiton177.1′From €231,000/week

Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:

Honor – Season 1

Lumiere yacht

Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.

HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.

She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).

Ohana – Season 2

Yacht Rhino

Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.

OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.

She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.

Eros – Season 3

Yacht Mustang Sally

EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.

EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.

Valor – Seasons 4 & 5

below deck yacht captain

The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.

Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.

Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts

Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.

Ionian Princess – Season 1

Yacht Ionian Princess

Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.

The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.

Sirocco – Season 2

Sirocco yacht

Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.

Talisman Maiton – Season 3

Talisman

Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?

Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!

Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Below Deck Yacht Rental Costs

Hiring a yacht from Below Deck isn’t cheap. The majority cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 per week. Yet, that charter rate doesn’t include expenses, including fuel, dockage fees, and taxes.

Yet, for that price, you’ll get a truly world-class experience. The crews of each of these yachts provide first-class service and all of the boats are fully loaded with amenities. There’s nothing quite like it in the world. And by hiring one of these superyachts, you’ll also have bragging rights for chartering a yacht featured on a TV show!

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 3 Recap: A Guest Gets Lost at Sea

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 3 recap.

Welcome to the  Below Deck Mediterranean  Season 9, Episode 3! In this week’s episode, called “Drifting Standards,” even though a new provisioner gives Captain Sandy hope for a better charter, Jono’s cooking fails to impress. One of the guests gets “lost at sea” alongside deckhand Nathan, which makes Sandy question the competence of her Bosun. Here are some of the highlights from Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 3.

Romance scuttled

below deck yacht captain

When last we visited Below Deck Mediterranean, Gael, and Nathan were looking for a place to canoodle “without cameras.” He finds a spot in the starboard bow locker and messages her to join him. As she’s trying to tippytoe through the galley, she gets busted by a camera crew and mutters, “Oh, sh*t.”

“Do you need a mic?” one of them asks.

“I’m not gonna speak [to anyone],” she responds. “I’m just getting water real quick.” And maybe “ a few wee strawberries ” while you’re at it?

“Why? What am I thinking? What am I doing?” she asks herself. Then she texts Nathan, “I just got caught by the cameras.”

“Hahaha,” Nathan texts back. “There’s no cameras from the bridge deck, can go straight into the bosun’s locker.” Oh, Nathan, the cameras are EVERYWHERE.

But Gael’s lost her nerve. “Haha, nah, let’s call it a night. Talk soon!” And she heads back down the stairs to her cabin. Sorry, Nathan, no strawberries tonight.

“I’m still in a relationship,” Gael interviews. “I feel like I’m having stronger feelings than I need to have in this moment. I need to go to sleep.”

So that’s that. “F*ck! F*ck me,” Nathan grumbles in frustration.

“I don’t want to pressure her or push her into making any dumb, stupid decision,” he says in a confessional. “I hope I won’t make things awkward, but that’s a risk I will take any time!”

A new ship’s supplier makes everyone happy

below deck yacht captain

The next morning, Captain Sandy is emailing the provisioner. Oh, look! She’s wearing her brand-new wedding ring. So pretty! Congrats again, Sandy! We love a Below Deck Mediterranean love story.

“Last charter was the worst provisioning experience I’ve ever had in my charter career,” she says in a confessional. “So we’re changing provisioning companies.” I would think so! Hopefully, the new provisioners will be far more professional.

Aesha is pleased that Sandy has hired a new company. “Amazing! Fingers crossed this charter’s gonna be much more reliable.”

Iain, Aesha, and Jono join Sandy for a preference sheet meeting. The primary for the new charter is two-time Olympic gold medalist tennis champion Gigi Fernández. Sandy says, “I actually had her as a charter client, and we became friends after that. I had a great charter with them, and that’s why they’re coming back.”

“The chef I had [then] did, like, seven courses at each meal,” the captain adds, looking at Jono, who doesn’t look terribly thrilled. “Her expectations are high.”

One of the guests requests no mayonnaise, no lamb, turkey, duck, or pork. “She also has a gluten allergy,” Jono points out. “She hates seafood, whereas seafood is one of the top requests [by the others].” What on earth are they going to feed this woman?

Even though it will be challenging, Sandy says, “I really want to please her. They’re used to getting whatever they want when they want it.”

Jono is worried about cooking for someone who has so many difficult restrictions. “Pressure makes us better,” Sandy encourages him.

When the provisions arrive, Aesha exclaims, “Oh my God, a U.S. provision company that actually knows how to provision!”

Jono is nearly crying with relief. “What a great company!” Aesha squeals. “They actually had things I wanted, and they come on time!”

Not-so-tasty tacos

below deck yacht captain

For the guests’ first meal on the boat, Jono prepares the seafood tacos they asked for. He says the last boat he worked on, the owners were from Mexico. “I’m gonna bring the spice,” he says. “The tacos are gonna be talking. They’re gonna be saying, ‘Eat me! Eat me!’” I hope they like spicy food, cause he’s definitely not holding back on the spices.

As she takes the food out to the guests, Ellie treads carefully with Jono. “After the whole panini-gate last trip,” she says, “I am definitely biting my tongue … All I can do is just remain professional going forward and not let this affect my job at all.”

At the table, Jono may have gone overboard (see what I did there?) on the spice because Gigi comments, “The spice in the rice, there’s a very distinct taste.”

“Do you like it?”

“No,” she responds. “There’s something overbearing in it.” Could it be the cardamom? That doesn’t sound like something that belongs in tacos.

“Yeah, you’re right,” her friend agrees.

The rest of the group concurs. “Woo, that’s spicy!” says one of the group.

When Ellie asks how everything is, Gigi decides, “It’s not Rachel good [the chef on their last charter], but it’s good.”

Adrift at sea

below deck yacht captain

Iain is happy with his crew. “I have a really good team,” he says. “Everyone’s improving. Things are going smoothly. No one’s an idiot.” Don’t tempt fate, Iain.

Laura wants to paddleboard. After getting permission, Nathan accompanies her.

But when they try to return, Nathan realizes they’re farther away than they should be. Rather than watching the guests in the water, Joe is distracted by the ladies who want him to “take your shirt off!”

Attempting to paddle back, Nathan interviews, “We’re actually going backwards because the current is that strong. So, yeah, we’re stuck at sea, and I’m sh*tting myself.”

“What happened to Laura and Nathan?” someone finally asks.

“They’re way too far out,” Sandy says.

Fortunately, a passing catamaran picks them up and returns them safely to the Mustique. Sandy’s not happy that they almost lost one of the guests. Iain launches the tender to retrieve them, and Sandy radios, “Come see me as soon as the guests are back on board.”

“This is embarrassing,” she tells Joe. When he admits he should have had eyes on them, Sandy calls it a “lesson learned.”

“I appreciate that Joe is accountable,” Sandy interviews. “But [as for] Iain, you need two people watching the guests at all times. It’s Iain’s job as the bosun to delegate the watch person.”

“Always have your eyes on the guests,” she tells him. “When guests are in the water on any toy, one person in the tender follows them. Always. Make them a priority.” Neither Nathan nor Laura was wearing a life jacket. They could have drowned.

Iain interviews that he didn’t know he was supposed to keep eyes on guests in the water. Has he never worked on a yacht before?

“Go apologize to Gigi,” Sandy says.

“Poop on a platter”

below deck yacht captain

When Sandy sees that Jono has prepared chicken as the main course, she’s a little disappointed. “The expectation of a Mediterranean charter is five-star food,” she says in a confessional. “Gigi has traveled the world. She has dined in some of the finest restaurants. Chicken is really not something that you serve on a super yacht. Everything has to be perfect.”

Gigi isn’t thrilled with the chicken either. “It’s just too much rosemary.”

“Everyone’s quiet at the table,” Aesha notices. “Coming from someone who proclaims very loudly every time they love food, I just feel like it’s usually not great if people aren’t wowing from their seats.”

“How was the chicken?” she asks the guests. “Is it okay?”

Julie Ann offers, “Mine came out pretty decent.” Not exactly a rave review.

When Aesha returns to the kitchen and sees what’s on offer for dessert, she exclaims, “Sponge cake?! It’s the most boring out of all the cakes.” Even though I could forgive him for the cake since it’s chocolate, Jono’s added a scoop of raspberry sorbet to the plate, which kind of looks like an afterthought. Plus, it’s raspberry, which I hate. Yuck. Aesha calls it “poop on a platter” in a confessional.

“You made me serve chicken, and then I’ve gotta give them spongecake?” she wails. “Like, I’ve gotta be the face of all of this sh*t.” It’s embarrassing.

When Aesha returns to ask the guests if it’s okay, Gigi says, “No, it could be more chocolatey.” Rather than dwelling on the disappointing dinner, Aesha hastily moves them along to the next activity.

Cold eggs for breakfast?

below deck yacht captain

Next morning, Jono prepares Huevos Rancheros. But by the time the guests get to the table, the eggs have been sitting for an hour and a half. That’s disgusting. This is not how to Below Deck Mediterranean, Jono.

“Okay, Aesha, my egg is completely cold,” Gigi says. “If you could just bring an egg that’s hot, everything else is completely fine. There’s just nothing worse than cold eggs.”

Later when Gigi comes to visit Sandy on the bridge, she asks, “How was your breakfast?” Gigi admits the eggs were cold.

“So I sent them back cause you can’t have cold eggs,” she adds. “These people don’t want to complain … Like, last night’s dinner, ‘Chef’s Choice’ and this is what you give us?”

Gigi adds, “When you call something ‘deconstructed,’ it just means that it didn’t work out.” Not if you’re a good chef, it doesn’t.

When Sandy asks about the chocolate cake for dessert, Gigi admits, “It was not good. And then, lunch had some spice, I couldn’t place it. It was completely overbearing. Like, I have a high standard.”

“Oh, I know,” Sandy sympathizes. “On a charter yacht, you want the food to be superb.” These guests are paying a lot of money to be on this boat. They expect five-star dining.

“I know Gigi,” Sandy says in a confessional. “She wouldn’t complain just to complain.”

“I’m sorry,” Sandy tells her friend. “Thanks for letting me know. We’re gonna fix it.”

As soon as Gigi leaves the bridge, Captain radios, “Jono, Jono, can you please come to the bridge?” Uh oh. Somebody’s in trouble.

Below Deck Mediterranean  airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

'Below Deck Mediterranean's Captain Sandy Is Wrong Again

The Big Picture

  • Captain Sandy contradicts own rules by forbidding chef wake-up, upsetting crew.
  • Captain Sandy's obsession with dominance and micromanaging undercuts guest experience.
  • Captain Sandy's arbitrary decisions on show lead to fan backlash, calls for her departure.

In one of the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean , Captain Sandy Yawn got upset and told stewardess Elena Dubaich that she should never wake up the chef if the guests require late-night snacks. Only that's not fair or true. As seen throughout the tenure of all the Below Deck franchises, many crew members on the reality series have awakened the sleeping chef when the guests' food request could not be fulfilled by them. And most of the time, the chef understands. Not Chef Jono Shillingford . Captain Sandy is out there for herself and lacks awareness of her hypocrisy. She may be the central figure in publicity images for the show, but she will be the sole reason she sinks this ship. But hey, she's the perfect Bravo persona!

Back for its ninth season, Below Deck Med follows the trials and tribulations of some of the world's most majestic superyachts. For Season 9, fan-favorite Below Deck Med and Below Deck Down Under star Aesha Scott has returned to where it all began, serving as the Chief Stew under Captain Sandy this time around. This season, the high-class clientele will board motoryacht Mustique in the beautiful locale of Greece. Captain Sandy is back for her eighth season. And like her previous charter seasons, it's her rules. Which are, and have never been, consistent.

Below Deck Mediterranean

In a luxury charter yacht traveling across the Mediterranean, crew members face both the challenges of managing upscale guest expectations and the complexities of their own interrelationships. Each episode highlights the high-octane world of yachting where exceptional service standards meet personal drama and adventure.

To Wake or Not To Wake, That Is the Question on 'Below Deck Mediterranean'

So your charter guests are a bunch of young 20-something British friends on holiday on a superyacht. Their charter had already been effected when the provisioners did not send the endless bottles of wine and Rosé that were ordered. The charter guests are not thrilled, but they're going with the flow thanks to the leadership of your chief stew. It's late night and the kids want to party and have unshockingly gotten the munchies . They're demanding nachos and grilled cheese, among other things. Messy, greasy snacks to soak up the booze. But you're the only stewardess up at this hour. They're already demanding endless beverages and now, they want you to make them food. They're already complaining about the slow service behind your back. Plus, you're not a professional chef who can whip up something special for this five-star demanding group. So, what do you do? You call in the reinforcements and ask the chef to assist.

'Below Deck Mediterranean's First Charter Had an Obvious MVP

The charter guests started to whine when they didn’t get their wine!

And now the chef throws a hissy fit and refuses to oblige, even though the preference sheet from the eager Brits requested late night snacks for their experience. Who's at fault? Is it the stew or the chef? According to Captain Sandy, you never wake up the chef. Which contradicts her previous rules from a few seasons back.

During Below Deck Med Season 5, following the unjust firing of Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier and Chef Kiko Lorran , the yacht was saved by Bosun Malia White 's boyfriend at the time, Chef Tom Checketts . Chef Tom didn't come on board in the best frame of mind and was easily irritated. During one of the charters, Chef Tom was awoken from a nap to slice cucumbers. Yes, slice cucumbers. But who was the person to wake him up? None other than Captain Sandy. Even with Chef Tom throwing a temper tantrum about losing precious nap time, Captain Sandy was adamant that the chef was hired to cook. So what happened between those four seasons? Did the rules change or does Captain Sandy simply have a fascination with asserting her authority? As a female in a male-dominated industry, Captain Sandy often overextends herself to ensure everyone knows who runs the ship. It's an obsession with dominance that has gone overboard.

Captain Sandy Is an Endless Contradiction

As asserted many times throughout her time on Below Deck Med , guest experience is the number one goal on Captain Sandy's ships. Her micromanaging techniques have found her undermining her crew in situations that other captains throughout Below Deck never do. She was seen criticizing Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier's lack of table decor prowess following her seeing prolific tablescapes at a boat show. She has gotten on the case of every Bosun with her obsession to get every single water toy in the ocean. Especially that gigantic water slide. But fans are quite aware that her obsession with water toys came after seeing a bigger boat with their toys out. Captain Sandy is all about making sure she's the center of attention. She wants to be liked. She even makes sure the offspring of famous singers post photos with her on social media so she can claim them as her friend every time they return for a charter. So her desire to ensure the guest experience is first rate makes sense. So this incident with Ellie and Chef Jono was perplexing.

'Below Deck's Season 11 MVP Is a Franchise-Best Yachtie

'Mummy' is making waves as one of the best Chief Stews on Bravo's hit reality show

The situation was alarming because, at its core, guest experience is number one, yet Captain Sandy was willing to forgo that just to have a scene where she got mad and asserted her authority. Captain Sandy is a menace and a hypocrite. Her bias toward the exterior is unmatched and has proven she's willing to throw the interior under the bus. Captain Sandy had her mind made up and rather than trying to learn the truth, she took Chef Jono at his word and admonished and embarrassed Ellie in front of the entire crew at the tip meeting. Even Aesha was not so sure that Captain Sandy was entirely right, but having worked with her in the past, she knows trying to push back would only cause trouble for her later. Thanks to Aesha's leadership, she came up with a plan that Chef Jono should prepare paninis in case of an emergency in the future. But she also told him to read the preference sheet because the late night snacks were in fact his responsibility. Perhaps Captain Sandy's desire to side with Chef Jono also stems from him having more stripes than Ellie and wanting to assert her authority on someone significantly below her. Whatever the reason is, Captain Sandy has continued to double down on her move and excuses. It's getting tiring.

It's Time for Captain Sandy To Abandon Ship

All good things must come to an end. And it might be time for Captain Sandy to move onto greener pastures. As will be seen later this season, Captain Sandy is set to propose to her partner Leah Shafer. She has since gotten married , so maybe the happy couple deserves an extended honeymoon together. Captain Sandy's long tenure on the program has come with a mixed reception. Some fans enjoy her desire to be seen on camera more than any other captain ever does. Others have had it with her and believe she's the source of a lot of unnecessary drama. With the late-night snack debacle being the latest in a long run of controversial decisions, there has been one major Below Deck alum who has questioned Captain Sandy's decisions.

Of course, with this discourse, the Daddy of the Sea disagreed with Captain Sandy's statement of never waking up the chef. It's become common that Captain Sandy and Captain Lee Rosbach will never agree on management choices. Nor will she ever reach his status as the best captain in the Below Deck Cinematic Universe. So when Captain Lee came out with his statement, many fans rejoiced that the authority of the sea has spoken on the right way to handle things. He shared on social media, "If the guests want it and the stews can't handle it, of course you wake up the chef." Of course, someone's sensitivity had caused Captain Lee to have to clarify his statement that was not intended to slam Captain Sandy. He was just stating the truth without context, which makes the chef-waking up rule even stronger against Captain Sandy. Fans of Below Deck Season 10 remember when Captain Sandy rescued the charter season by temporarily replacing Captain Lee on the St. David when he was physically unable to. Like Captain Sandy does, she was trigger-happy about firing Captain Lee's crew without consultation. Yet another power move.

With two major Below Deck captains on both sides of the argument, maybe it's time for Captain Kerry Titheradge , Captain Glenn Shephard , and Captain Jason Chambers to weigh in on things! At the end of the day, it is Captain Sandy's ship to run it as she wants. But when the cameras are rolling and superfans can recall when she's defied her own rules, she deserves to be called out. Her actions have caused damage and will now bring a lingering aftermath and tension between two of her crew members. If Captain Sandy wanted to right her wrong, she would step in and admit defeat. But her pride will always get the best of her.

Captain Sandy is Currently the Longest-tenured Captain In the 'Below Deck' Cinematic Universe

And yet she might be the most device. Her presence as a LGBTQ+ woman in the highest position in the industry is inspiring. Her visibility to encourage others like her is important. But her management skill and interpersonal relationship tactics seem to shift on a dime, season after season. Her disdain for certain individuals she deems below her becomes evident in how she treats them. When she sees another female deckhand aspiring to be a ship captain, she takes them under her wing. And then thinks they immediately become buddies. How can she assert her authority as the top boss on the yacht if she’s not treating every individual with the utmost respect?

Yes, in any industry, every person in a management position can have a different management style. And yes, you can change your ways as you learn and grow. But that’s not Captain Sandy, as Us Weekly reports on her time on the show.. She will flip-fop her beliefs, views, and opinions to suit a situation . Try binge-watching all the seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean . Season after season, she comes in spewing contradictory facts and beliefs without ever admitting she might have been wrong. Nothing will ever come close to how she treated Hannah Ferrier and her panic attacks. She helped her in one season. Belittled and fired her the next. And then came back onto the screen when others were dealing with anxiety making people believe she is the biggest advocate for mental health. Hey Captain Sandy, I think Hannah deserves a public apology, not a continual double down on your stance!

A High-Profile Guest Has Major Complaints for Captain Sandy: "This Is What You Give Us?"

Below Deck Mediterranean guest Gigi Fernandez isn't impressed by Chef Johnathan Shillingford's first dinner.

As we've learned time and time again across the  Below Deck   franchise,   every group of charter guests presents a unique challenge. From groups with intense dietary restrictions to night owls that prevent the crew from getting some rest, being flexible — as well as the general flexing of skills — is so important.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

Unfortunately,  Chef Johnathan "Jono" Shillingford  was reminded of exactly that during Season 9, Episode 3 of  Below Deck Mediterranean , when one of Captain Sandy Yawn 's very impressive friends came on board as a guest and had a lot to say about the chef's food.

Prior to the guests boarding, Sandy shared details with some of the crew members about the primary charter guest.

Who is Gigi Fernandez?

"Gigi Fernandez is a 17-time grand slam doubles champion," Sandy explained. "Two different times she won the gold in the Olympics . I actually had her as a charter client and we became friends after that. I had a great charter with them, and now they're coming back."

Sandy also explained that on the last charter where Gigi was a guest, the chef at the time crafted a seven-course experience for every meal.

"[Gigi's] expectations are high," she said. "I think you'll be challenged. They're used to getting whatever they want when they want it."

Chef Johnathan "Jono" Shillingford reacts to "pressure" from guest Gigi Fernandez

Even before the guests came on board, Jono knew he had to pull out all the stops after seeing their preference sheets.

"I don't know if I really have that much exposure to a group having this much varying preferences," he said. "I've never worked at a restaurant. I have an Olympian with high-end taste coming on board. It's a lot of pressure ... Sometimes I don't even feel like a chef, I really do feel like a designer. And then I'm like, 'Oh, I cook.'"

See the Exact Tip the Below Deck Med Crew Received After *That* First Charter: "Surprised"

Things got off to a rocky start when Jono decided to cook the guests chicken for their first dinner on board, and Sandy wasn't thrilled.

"The expectation of a Mediterranean charter is five-star food. Gigi has traveled the world. She has dined in some of the finest restaurants. Chicken is really not something that you serve on a super yacht," explained Sandy.

Charter Guests Weren't Impressed With Chef Jono's First Dinner

While some guests were fine with the meal (one even gave the dish a thumbs up), others were less than impressed with the "seared tender chicken breasts in a coconut lemon sauce" they were served. Jono had said it was cooked "perfectly," but the seasoning was overpowering to the group.

"It's just too much. Too much rosemary," said Gigi, while others didn't even finish the entrée.

"Everyone's quiet at the table, and coming from someone who proclaims very loudly every time they love food, I just feel like it's usually not great if people aren't wowing from their seats," said chief stew Aesha Scott .

When she asked guests their thoughts, one said the meal was "decent."

Below Deck Med Season 9’s Chef Is... an Architect? “Fake It ‘Til You Make It”

Next came dessert, a "deconstructed sponge cake" which Aesha herself wasn't thrilled with.

"Sponge cake?! The most boring out of all the cakes!" she said. "This is like poop on a platter. He made me serve chicken and then I've gotta get them sponge cake? I'm gonna be the face of all this sh-t."

The next morning, after the guests failed to wake up for their scheduled breakfast time, they were served eggs that had been sitting out for over an hour.

"The eggs were cold," the Olympian whispered to Sandy after breakfast. "These people don't want to complain, but I mean, last night's dinner ... chef's choice and this is what you give us? And when you call something deconstructed, it just means it didn't work out. It was not good. And then lunch had some spice I couldn't place, it was completely overbearing. But I have a high standard."

Will the next meal have a better reception? Tune in for Season 9, Episode 4 on Monday, June 24 to find out.
