The 70-metre yacht SKAT was built to be a comfortable second home, with iconic exterior design by Espen Øino and interior design by Marco Zanini. Comfort and performance were essential with noise and vibration levels extremely low at cruising speeds. The construction brief called for as much light as possible, which resulted in a glass conservatory on the bridge deck, which allows natural light to shine in from above and below while affording magnificent views of the yacht's surroundings. With a very clean layout and separation, the lower decks are entirely dedicated to technical spaces, crew and services. They received the same level of attention to design and detail as the owner and guest accommodation on the upper decks. Delivered in 2002, the size and quality of these crew spaces is still outstanding even today.

The award winning 70.7m/231'11" motor yacht 'Skat' was built by Lurssen in Germany at their Bremen shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Marco Zanini and she was completed in 2002. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Espen Oeino and she was last refitted in 2022.

Skat has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 suites. Additionally, there are 2 staff cabins aboard. She is also capable of carrying up to 18 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Skat is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 4000 M70) 16-cylinder 2,682hp engines running at 2000rpm, she comfortably cruises at 15 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots with a range of up to 4,600 nautical miles from her 224,000 litre fuel tanks at 14 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board promises exceptional comfort levels at anchor or on any voyage. Her water tanks store around 62,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to Lloyds Register ✠ 100A1, SSC Yacht (P) Mono, G6, , ✠ LMC , UMS classification society rules.

A Summary of Motor Yacht SKAT

The motor yacht SKAT is a 71 metre 232 (foot) volumous steel vessel which was made at Lurssen Yachts and designed in the office of Lurssen and Espen Oeino. The naval architect that made the drawings in respect of the yacht was Lurssen and Espen Oeino. Also, the interior designing is sucessful creation of Marco Zanini / Flavia Alves De Sousa.

With an assured military style SKAT with angular grey styling and the large numbers 9906 painted on her superstructure turn head s on the water. Interestingly, on just one engine she can reach a speed of up to 13 knots. In the situation, the idle engines shaft can be disengaged, so the idle propeller freewheels.

The Build & Naval Architecture with respect to Luxury Yacht SKAT

Lurssen was the naval architecture company involved in the professional superyacht plans for SKAT. Her interior design was realised by Marco Zanini / Flavia Alves De Sousa. Lurssen and Espen Oeino is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this boat. In 2002 she was formally launched to triumph in Bremen and following sea trials and detailing was thereafter handed over to the owner who commissioned her. Lurssen Yachts completed their new build motor yacht in Germany. A impressive feeling is manifested with a maximum beam (width) of 13.5 m / 44.3 feet. With a 3.72m (12.2ft) draught (maximum depth) she is fairly deep. The material steel was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure above deck is fashioned out of aluminium. In 2005 extra refit work and updating was additionally performed.

The Propulsion Type - Main Engines On M/Y SKAT:

Installed with two MTU diesel engines, SKAT can attain a high speed of 17 knots. Coupled to the SKAT engines are twin screw propellers. Her total HP is 5340 HP and her total Kilowatts are 3929. With respect to bow thruster maneuverability she was fitted with Brunvoll. As for the yacht’s stabalisers she was built with Koopnautic.

71m Lürssen motor yacht Skat sold

The iconic 70.71 metre Lürssen motor Skat has been sold with both buyer and seller represented by Stuart Larsen at Fraser .

Built in steel and aluminium by German yard Lurssen to a design by Espen Oeino , she was delivered in 2002 and immediately attracted worldwide attention with her military-style profile, finished in grey. An interior by Marco Zanini accommodates up to 12 guests in seven en suite cabins comprising a master suite, four doubles and two twins. All guest cabins have entertainment centres, Panasonic television screens and are connected by an elevator to all decks while the crew quarters sleep 20 staff.

The dining room has split teak-topped tables for an intimate setting which can also be converted to a single long table with 12 chairs. The main saloon or cinema is aft with a flexible seating arrangement and a large screen television set on an overhead lift. The aft main deck is expansive and open with fixed and loose seating, coffee tables and buffet servers either side. One buffet has a push button bar that opens with bottle storage and the port side also opens with a sink and fridge.

The tender garage stores two 8.5 metre tenders and there are bowsers for gas and diesel refuelling and capacity for two or three wave runners and other water toys. There is also a rack for six bikes. A hydraulic elevator platform moves motorcycles, bikes, supplies and handrails etc. from the garage up to the main deck.

On the bridge deck, there is a wide walkway to the foredeck with port and starboard crew seating. The elevator accesses the corridor heading aft to the guest office which is to starboard with six workstations. The owner’s library is opposite and also has two days beds for relaxation. Further aft is the bridge deck saloon with a stand-up bar separating the lounging area to starboard and casual seating area opposite to port. Natural light also comes from an overhead sky light.

It is on this deck that one starts to appreciate the incredible natural light afforded by the massive windows which extend full width out over the main deck below and are certainly the ‘signature’ of  Skat . They extend even further aft to the external dining area which is light, bright and airy and a really generous space with a dining table lying fore and aft for 12 guests, a lounging settee to port and a U-shaped dining and seating area opposite. Her top speed is 17 knots and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 3,500 nautical miles at 15.0kn with power coming from two 2,680hp MTU 16V4000M79 diesel engines.

Skat was asking €49,500,000.

Skat has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure with a beam of 13.50m (44.29ft) and a 3.75m (12.30ft) draft. This custom displacement yacht is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience. She also features bow thrusters making her more manoeuvrable at low speeds. Skat is built to comply to MCA and LR standards. Performance + Capabilities Skat has a cruising speed of 15 knots, max speed of 17 knots and a range of 3500 nm from her 218000-litre fuel tanks.
