The vessel , built by the Netherlands-based superyacht-builder Feadship , was purchased by Bruce Sherman of Naples, Fla., in 2010 for $69.5 million, according to the Broward Palm Beach New Times . Sherman is majority owner of Major League Baseball team Miami Marlins. The yacht can be chartered for between $455,000 and $490,000 per week, according to Curbed Miami , and includes a cinema, gym and water toys, among other amenities.

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The USS Sequoia — also known as ‘the presidential yacht’ — is docked in New London for an unexpected pit stop due to a fierce Nor’easter on its way to Maine for restoration.
This ship is history on the water. During her run, the USS Sequoia served eight U.S. presidents; she was used for diplomatic meetings, relaxing, and everything in between. She’s been called The Floating White House.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt even brought the yacht to New London once before for a historic moment.
“The president was here when he signed 100 bills as part of the economic stimulus package to get us out of the great depression,” said Todd French, Project Lead of the yacht’s restoration project.
Also, President John F. Kennedy spent his final birthday aboard the Sequoia.
More recently, Former U.S. Senator Joe Leiberman also spent time on the ship.
Today, she’s docked in New London again, unexpectedly this time, to seek refuge from the stormy seas. After years out of service, the Sequoia is heading to Maine to undergo a complete restoration.
“Part of the goal of this restoration is to honor as many of those stories as possible,” said French.
Now on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, the Sequoia is said to be the most important presidential artifact in private hands.
The project is expected to take three years. USS Sequoia will be docked at New London’s city pier until Saturday.

The UK capital may not be quite as picturesque as France's sparkling shores or Italy's beach-lined coasts - but evidently, there's still a certain appeal among yacht owners as an increasing number of superyachts set a course for London.
With her buttercup-yellow awnings and distinctively brawny exterior, 63.7-metre Scout was spotted brightening up London's waterways this week. The flagship of Dutch yard Royal Hakvoort , Scout is named after the owner and his partner's beloved dog and the mascot that sometimes sits on the bow is a custom-made impression of it. H2 Yacht Design has helmed the interior, and according to our first look inside superyacht Scout , the inside is a wacky and wonderful mix of “what the future was once expected to look like”, with features including an LCD skylight that streams various scenes into the main saloon. Scout is no stranger to Butler's Wharf, having paid a visit to the UK capital last year.
In April, Scintilla Maris was photographed departing from Damen Maaskant 's shipyard in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The 45.6-metre converted fishing trawler then completed her maiden voyage to London and was docked in Canary Wharf, according to BOATPro . Scintilla Maris ' ambitious refit project has earned her a nomination at this year's World Superyacht Awards in the 'Rebuilt Yacht' category. Works included reducing the yacht's 570GT to below the 500GT threshold and the installation of eclectic, loft-like interiors by Dutch studio Vripack .
The 49.7-metre Triton was seen moored near Tower Bridge in April 2024. She was launched and designed by Delta Marine in 2004 and was the largest composite yacht built in the United States at the time. Triton is best suited to worldwide cruising, deep-sea fishing and exotic reef diving, with an underwater camera in the bow and a lighting rig at the stern that "provides guests front-row seats for observing the ocean’s mysteries". A sonar and bottom-mapping system by Simrad can also photograph and 3D map the bottom of the ocean, easily locating any nearby wreckage. Interior highlights include a full-width master cabin with a sitting room, library, office and his and hers bathroom.
Oceanco 's 109-metre Bravo Eugenia has visited the Big Smoke many times, showing off a chiselled Nuvolari Lenard exterior and dazzling underwater light display. A sharp plumb bow and extended waterline make her one of the distinctive superyachts on the water, and she certainly cuts an elegant profile whenever she arrives in London. With her hybrid propulsion engine, she offers a quiet electric mode which allows her to consume 30 per cent less fuel than other motor yachts in her size class, making her one of the more eco-friendly yachts in the world . She was most recently sighted in November 2023 at Butler's Wharf Pier, Tower Bridge.
The 90-metre expedition yacht has been spotted anchored in front of Tower Bridge following delivery from Lürssen 's yard in Germany. Launched in February 2023, Norn has since travelled across the Baltic and North Sea, including a skirt around Sweden’s Skåne County and a brief stop in the port of Helsingborg on the 9 of June, according to BOATPro . Key features include an outdoor cinema and changeable-depth pool floor with dance floor illumination.
Prior to arriving in Canary Wharf, the 56-metre Benetti build enjoyed a cruising expedition in the cruising grounds from where she gets her name. Australia ’s Stefano Ricci lines and navy hull attracted plenty of attention along the Gold Coast, and the 2012 build has an equally impressive interior with three individual dining saloons. She was launched as Ulysses and later became known as Bash , and was formerly owned by two serial yacht owners.
Fresh from an Atlantic crossing that began in early May and a stop-off in Portsmouth, the 54.3-metre Amels yacht Revelry was spotted docked in Canary Wharf. The yacht has a textbook Tim Heywood exterior and interiors by Laura Sessa , as part of the Dutch yard's Limited Editions 177 series. She was launched as 4You in 2012 and changed ownership in 2021.
The 110-metre Kaos (ex Jubilee ) is the largest yacht to pay a visit to London in recent years. She cruised up the Thames in May 2023, stopping in front of Butler's Wharf and Tower Bridge to show off her unique blue exterior penned by Lobanov Design . The multi-award-winning yacht has a stellar range of onboard amenities, including an 8.5-metre pool, aquarium and a multitude of custom-designed pieces not found on any other yacht. At the time of her last sale in 2018, she was one of the largest sales in yachting history.
The third unit in Benetti 's highly popular Oasis 40M series, named Phoenix , has spent a significant amount of time cruising the coastline of Great Britain. Since her delivery in 2021, she has paid visits to Southampton and Ireland as well as to Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge. Key features include the signature Oasis deck, which boasts a glass-fronted dipping pool and unfolding bulwarks. The design of this model was so popular it inspired a smaller 34 metre series, with Zlatan Ibrahimović buying the first unit .
The 49.1-metre Reef Chief was spotted docked in the heart of Canary Wharf in 2022. The yacht was delivered by American yard Trinity in 2009 and has been designed with entertainment at its core. She is crowned by a large sundeck with an exterior bar, shaded dining area and TV screen, along with a Jacuzzi. Ten guests can be accommodated in five cabins, which are styled in classic polished wood and cream tones.
The 33.7-metre Van der Valk superyacht Blue Jeans made her maiden voyage to London after departing the shipyard in the Netherlands. Her cool blue hull added a touch of brightness to a dreary London day, and she spent her time cruising up and down the river showing off her custom Guido De Groot exterior. The all-aluminium yacht is one of the builder's most complex undertakings to date and is home to a foredeck "chillout lounge" with sun pads tucked into the bow, a U-shaped sofa and a dining table that pops up from the deck.
Fresh from a comprehensive refit and extension, the 44-metre motor yacht Brazil paid a visit to the River Thames in December 2022. The yacht was spotted moored outside St Katharine Docks Marina enjoying some winter sunshine in front of Tower Bridge. She was originally delivered by Heesen in 1993 and was relaunched in October following an extensive refit courtesy of a collaboration between three Dutch firms – Snijders Yachts, Zwijnenburg and Dutchflows. Work was primarily focused around the stern area, where the yacht was given a new beach club. The yacht is listed for sale with IYC .
Slipstream was delivered in 2009 as one of two 60-metre models from French shipyard CMN , Both exterior and interior were curated by Winch Design and the British studio has given her a smart navy hull with a distinctive grey superstructure. She features generous living and entertainment areas with an outdoor cinema on the sundeck and a hand-carved 4.5-metre totem pole at the centrepiece of a feature staircase. Owned by Canadian businessman Jack Cowin, Slipstream is currently available for charter by Burgess .
Having recently completed a cross-planet navigation that included Norway, the Maldives and Australia, 62-metre Stardust was spotted cruising up the Thames and into Canary Wharf in July 2022. The Amels build was handed over to her owners in 2020, and is the first and only hull in the Dutch yard's Limited Editions 206 series. Interior design comes from Laura Sessa, while Tim Heywood is responsible for the yacht's distinctive exterior, which is characterised by long lines of circular portholes and a cut-out segment in the hull line.
The 75.6-metre Boardwalk is one of the newer deliveries from prestigious Dutch shipbuilder Feadship , and she caused a big buzz when she moored up on the Thames against the backdrop of Tower Bridge. Her aft deck helipad, generous beach club and huge TV screens were on full display to lucky onlookers who were able to catch a glimpse of her.
Delivered in 2010 from Lürssen, 60-metre Bella Vita paid a brief visit to London, where she was seen along Butler's Wharf, just in front of Tower Bridge. Launched under the name Katie Sue II , the yacht became one of the top 50 most expensive yachts for sale in the world prior to her sale in January 2021. No doubt her new owner is enjoying her Glade Johnson interior and well-equipped sundeck.
The 55.5-metre Moon Sand made waves when she cruised up the Thames shortly after her delivery from Lürssen . The yacht has a number of innovative features on deck, including a recessed pool that can be drained and raised flush with the deck when not in use. The yacht's crisp profile and clean, soothing interiors are by legendary yacht design studio Bannenberg & Rowell .
With her sky-blue hull and buttercup yellow exterior accents, the Abeking & Rasmussen -built 98 metre motor Aviva added some colour to the city when she visited. The yacht is home to an onboard paddel tennis court - the first of its kind ever installed - which had to be carefully engineered in order to create the correct level of bounce.
Heesen's largest steel superyacht to date was spotted in London displaying her new name Lusine . The yacht hit the water in 2021 sporting a masculine exterior courtesy of Omega Architects and an interior by Sinot Yacht and Architecture Design . A glass elevator lies at the heart of the design while a touch-and-go helipad forward allows guests to come and go in complete privacy.
With her "champagne and caviar" interiors and two-deck video walls in the lobby, 95-metre Kismet is all about the wow factor. Her interiors are by Reymond Langton, while her exteriors are the work of Espen Øino and she features an impressive jaguar statue on the bowsprit. She marks one of the most expensive yachts for charter in the world , asking a cool €1,200,000 for one week.
One of the most recognisable yachts in the world, Motor Yacht A is sure to have drawn the crowds in the UK capital with her unconventional design. The 119-metre Blohm + Voss was commissioned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. Following the Ukraine war, the superyacht was moved to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where it remains to this day, according to BOATPro .

Inspired by London’s spectacular Illuminated River Project – a long term light installation that will transform 15 of the cities bridges into unique works of art. And what better way to experience each bridge than from Illuminate’s covered rear deck and open air flybridge. “The Thames is London’s most ancient public space ... and the bridges that span our river are some of the most precious historic sites we have. The Illuminated River project is the next stage of the Thames evolution.”
Duncan Wilson, Chief Executive of Historic England

Two military horses who were injured after bolting through central London earlier this year have been pictured together for the first time since as they continue with their ‘remarkable’ recovery.
The new photo released by the British Army shows Vida And Quaker enjoying a ‘ summer holiday’ in the Chilterns while they recuperate with the help of The Horse Trust.
Both are expected to make a full recovery .
They were among five horses which ran through the capital after being spooked by rubble dropped by workmen through a plastic tunnel during an exercise in Belgravia on April 24.
Three of them – Trojan, Tennyson, and Vanquish – are back on duty and ‘against all expectations’, are looking likely to take part in the King’s Birthday Parade on June 15.
The celebration, held on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, will be attended by the King after he returned to public-facing duties.
Charles will inspect the soldiers from a carriage rather than on horseback, it is understood.
Three of the injured soldiers are back on duty and two are continuing to convalesce, but are also expected to make a full return to service.
Service personnel were thrown from their horses when the animals got loose. The horses smashed into vehicles, including a double-decker bus, and caused a number of injuries.
Ambulance crews treated four people in three separate incidents in Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square and at the junction of Chancery Lane and Fleet Street, in the space of 10 minutes.

Once Trojan, Tennyson, and Vanquish were well enough to travel after the incident, they were sent for respite at The Horse Trust until they were fit to return to London.
On the same day that Trojan, Tennyson, and Vanquish left the Chilterns to return to Hyde Park Barracks, Vida and Quaker – the two most severely injured horses – were pronounced fit to travel and arrived at The Horse Trust for their respite care, having been discharged from veterinary care in London, the Army said.
Vida and Quaker ‘made a remarkable physical recovery and showed great enthusiasm and joy upon their arrival at The Horse Trust, galloping into fresh pastures’.
Cavalry Grey Vida, who was seen covered in blood galloping through central London, ‘wasted no time in turning from white to brown as he rolled in the grass’.
‘The horses appeared bright and in good spirits, clearly displaying a close bond with each other and the soldiers who accompanied them,” the Army said.
‘The facility offers a serene environment for relaxation, ensuring each horse receives personalised and attentive care.’
The horses will remain with The Horse Trust for as long as they need before being assessed for their suitability to return to work.
Jeanette Allen, chief executive officer at The Horse Trust, said: ‘It has been a privilege to provide these wonderful horses with the space and time needed to fully recover.
‘It’s been so lovely to see Trojan, Tennyson and Vanquish enjoying such a relaxing break and now we have Vida and Quaker already loving their time here.
‘All five horses are much younger than our regular Service residents and seeing them running, rolling and generally having fun after such a challenging experience, is a real joy.’
Lieutenant Colonel Mathew Woodward, Commanding Officer HCMR said: ‘All five of the horses injured during the incident are recovering with remarkable speed and it is very likely that Trojan, Tennyson and Vanquish will participate in the King’s Birthday Parade later this month.
‘The remaining two, Vida and Quaker, are enjoying a summer holiday in the Chilterns thanks to The Horse Trust.
‘They are expected to make a full recovery and we look forward to seeing them back on duty in due course.
‘Of the two most seriously injured soldiers, one is continuing his recovery at home and the other at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall.
‘They are both considered likely to return to military service in the fullness of time.’

Animal rights activists vandalized a new portrait of King Charles III Tuesday as it was displayed at a London gallery.
Two men, whom British media reported were from the group Animal Rising, were filmed pasting an image of the face of the character Wallace from the cartoon Wallace and Gromit over the king's face, along with a speech bubble with the words: "No cheese Gromit, look at all this cruelty on RSPCA farms!"
‼️BREAKING: No Cheese Gromit! King Charles Portrait Redecorated‼️ @RoyalFamily ‼️Find out why King Charles, Patron of the RSPCA should ask them to drop the Assured Scheme -> https://t.co/KTZwbikAaV 👈 pic.twitter.com/3pbemlZCE0 — Animal Rising (@AnimalRising) June 11, 2024
The painting, by British artist Jonathan Yeo, was unveiled last month to mixed reviews.
The work, on display at London's Philip Mould Gallery, shows Charles with a butterfly appearing to land on his right shoulder as he emerges from a fiery red background. Some social media comments said it looked like King Charles was "bathing in blood," while another said it was "the worst royal portrait I've ever seen."
The activist group claimed responsibility for the protest vandalism in social media posts , pointing to its recent report on the "RSPCA Assured" label attached to some food products, which is intended to indicate high animal welfare standards.
The group has called on King Charles to suspend his support of the RSPCA charity, of which he is a royal patron, claiming its own investigation into 45 farms in Britain that carry the RSPCA Assured certification "found instances of poor animal welfare" on each farm.

Paul will bring his acclaimed Got Back tour to Europe this December!
Fulfilling his promise to 'get back', Paul will return to France, Spain and the UK with his Got Back tour. Earlier this month, Paul announced his first live shows of 2024 with the next leg of the tour launching in South America this October.
With songs like ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Band on the Run’, ‘Let It Be’ and so many more, the Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a rock show: hours of the greatest moments from the last 60 years of music – dozens of songs from Paul’s solo, Wings and of course Beatles catalogues that have formed the soundtracks of our lives.
This will mark Paul’s first European show since his iconic Glastonbury headlining performance in 2022. Hailed as “one of the greatest gigs of all time” by The Times and “a masterclass from the greatest living cultural figure in this country’s history” by The i, it was also Paul and his band’s 500th show together! These dates will see McCartney return for his first live performance in Paris in six years - in 2018 he played at La Defense Arena, where he is making his return. The wait has been longer for Spaniards, where he last played eight years ago, in 2016 at Estadio Vincente Calderon.
Paul launched his Got Back tour in 2022, completing 16 huge shows across the US before performing his history-making set at Glastonbury in June 2022. In 2023 Paul performed 18 incredible shows as the Got Back tour rocked through Australia, Mexico and Brazil.

As museums and collectors wrestle with questions of ownership history, the organizers of this London fair say they carefully vet their dealers’ wares.
By Liz Robbins
A pregnant fish lizard began its unlikely journey from southwest Germany to southwest London 180 million years ago.
Soon, it will arrive in the English capital in fossil form to join other rare objects for sale at the Treasure House Fair at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, which runs from June 27 to July 2. How it got there reveals the thorny evolution of the antiquities market and the art world’s current concerns over authenticity.
Charges of looted ancient art and lawsuits over repatriations have roiled museums and collectors over the last decade, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art , the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
But Thomas Woodham-Smith, the co-founder of Treasure House with Harry Van der Hoorn, said the fair meticulously vets the dealers and their wares. From fossils to Etruscan wine cups, from diamonds to Lichtensteins to oil paintings of Queen Elizabeth II, such disparate items are checked by experts including the Art Loss Register to ensure they are not stolen, lost or looted. They carry the directors’ pledge: “Responsibly sourced, responsibly provenanced, carefully cataloged, all legal,” Woodham-Smith said in an interview in New York last month.
In particular, the giant fish lizard — a fossilized ichthyosaur from the Lower Jurassic period — illustrates how private dealers must navigate the rigorous laws prohibiting the export of some ancient art.
Roy Masin, the founder of Stone Gallery in the Netherlands, said he purchased the unprepared fossil in 2018 from the family of an amateur paleontologist, which requested anonymity.
At the time, Masin said, the fossil was firmly lodged in segments of slate that his team had to carefully remove with fine tools and stabilizing fluids in order to reveal the bones.
The archaeologist had unearthed it near Holzmaden, Germany, some time between 1968 and 1972, Masin said — a time frame verified by the state museum. Pieced together, the fossil is 11 feet 6 inches long and weighs more than 350 pounds. Two embryos are plainly visible inside the ribs.
In order to remove the fossil from Germany, Masin needed to acquire certification from a local expert. In this case, that was Prof. Rainer Schoch, a curator of fossils at the Stuttgart State Museum of Natural History.
Schoch wrote that he was reluctant to part with an “extremely rare” fossil that was in “excellent preservation.” He said in an email exchange that a 1971 German law ruled that it was illegal to remove “significant” fossils from the state of Baden-Württemberg since they were considered an important part of the area’s cultural heritage. Within the state, Holzmaden is an additional protected zone because it is rich in ichthyosaur remains.
However, because this particular ichthyosaur was likely found before 1971 (Masin said the family did not have an exact date) and was also found outside the protected zone, Schoch wrote, “we had no choice but to let the fossil go.” He added: “This does not mean that we are happy with the situation.”
Schoch explained why: “We know from so many cases that once the owner of a valuable fossil passes away, those who inherit it usually do not have a clue what to do with it or have exorbitant expectations regarding its monetary value. Therefore, many such fossils will be lost eventually.”
That concern over private collectors owning scientific items has arisen again and again, such as when Sotheby’s announced that it would sell a recently unearthed stegosaurus fossil in July.
But Masin reassured Schoch that his gallery had devoted time and resources to protecting the fossil, taking better care of it than others might.
“I told him I know of 30 to 40 fossils laying in very bad conditions in warehouses that are falling apart all over Germany,” Masin said in a telephone interview from the Netherlands. “We put in a lot of money, and we took care of this fossil, and we prepped it in a way that is good for generations to come. And so a lot of people all over the world can enjoy this fossil.”
Masin named the fossil “Mutti” or “Mommy” in German, and she is just getting out in the world. Masin has shown her at art fairs in Palm Beach, Fla., and Amsterdam with a $1.3 million price tag.
At the Treasure House Fair, Mutti will keep company with such eclectic items from Stone Gallery as an approximately 50,000-year-old woolly rhinoceros skull and an Uruguayan quartz geode. Masin noted that crystals were becoming increasingly popular with collectors.
“We have people in our gallery, like crypto traders, and they’re just looking for something cool in their house,” Masin said.
For younger art collectors, tracing the provenance of an object is a priority, said Jean-David Cahn, whose namesake gallery , at more than 160 years old, is believed to be the oldest-running family operator of antiquities in the world.
“It’s not just the art market or antiquities,” Cahn said in a phone interview from Basel, Switzerland.
“It’s with food, clothing, everything. You have a line to follow concerning responsibility, past cultures and even more towards living cultures, which is the aspect of post-colonialism.”
Cahn was one of the founders of the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art in 1993, which adopted a code of ethics. And yet even he was entangled in controversy recently.
More than seven years ago, he had brokered the sale of two Greek vases on behalf of the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt as it tried to recover money in the bankruptcy case of the art dealer Gianfranco Becchina, who was convicted in 2011 of illegally dealing in antiquities. When the new owner asked Cahn to exhibit the vases for resale at the 2017 Frieze Masters in London, they were confiscated by the authorities in London, who claimed that they were looted material.
Cahn said that reports at the time failed to make clear that he had first brokered the sale for the state. He also said that a Swiss legal art expert confirmed to him that the vases were “OK to sell.”
Despite the risks in his industry, Cahn said he was passionate that art should not be reserved exclusively for museums. “People should be allowed to live with these things of the past, not just to watch them behind the showcase,” Cahn said.
He is bringing more than 250 pieces to Treasure House, with each object telling a wider story of its time period. A twisted two-handled jug depicting a farewell scene of a warrior saying goodbye to his family is attributed to the Dinos Painter in Athens from 425-410 B.C., right around the time when plays by Sophocles and Euripides were performed.
Each of his gallery’s items comes with a detailed provenance — or ownership history — some whose private owners date back three centuries, Cahn said.
The Treasure House Fair — and its name — has its own rich provenance. When the Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair closed in 2009 after a 75-year run in London, Woodham-Smith and Van der Hoorn started Masterpiece London the next year on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
But a Swiss company, MCH Group, the owner of the renowned Art Basel fair, bought a controlling stake in Masterpiece in 2017, and Britain’s departure from the European Union and the Covid pandemic soon intervened. In early 2023, MCH abruptly canceled the fair , saying that partly as a result of Brexit, the costs had escalated and the number of exhibitors had declined.
Because Van der Hoorn was established as the owner of a company that builds stands for art fairs, he and Woodham-Smith decided to reinvent Masterpiece on a smaller scale with a new name. Treasure House began cautiously with 55 dealers in 2023, before expanding by 15 galleries this year. (By comparison, Art Basel Miami Beach had 277 galleries last year.)
Adam Patrick of A La Vieille Russie in New York, a frequent Masterpiece vendor, cautiously sat out the first year of Treasure House. But he said he was encouraged by enthusiastic reports to try it this year.
Patrick is bringing about 300 unusual jewelry items, including an Art Deco diamond brooch of a World War II aircraft, a pink enamel Fabergé whistle and an antique witch’s heart pendant.
A La Vieille Russie will fold into the rows of dealers featuring Impressionist art, modern sculpture, luscious gems, English furniture and royal portraits.
Asked whether the name Treasure House could, for some, evoke the idea of a cabinet of curiosities, Woodham-Smith dismissed any colonial connotation and emphasized London’s position as a global trading hub.
While conceding that the name could be polarizing for some, he said that, for him, the name has beauty because it was without ambiguity.
“It tells you exactly what you’re going to find,” Woodham-Smith said. “Treasures. In a house.”
An earlier version of this article referred incorrectly to the person whose family sold the unprepared ichthyosaur fossil to Roy Masin. That person was an amateur paleontologist, not an amateur archaeologist.
