Raw AIS NMEA Data

Raw AIS data streaming is the most optimal way of distribution of real-time AIS feeds with a minimum latency. The NMEA data format conforms to AIS specification and data sentences may be processed by all software systems designed to operate directly with AIS hardware equipment (AIS receivers, transponders or base stations).

The raw AIS data feed is provided via TCP/IP connection or UDP stream in compliance with client's requirements. The feed could be filtered by area, AIS source or message type. Position reports can be downsampled in order to reduce the required bandwidth between the client and our data center.

Data access is provided on a subscription basis and the applicable fee thereof depends on the size of the area, the number of receiving stations and the vessel traffic density.

Indespensible

I just sailed from Chesapeake Bay to NYC. I don't have AIS on my boat, and was concerned about boat traffic in the C&D canal, the Delware river, and Ambrose channel into the Hudson. I DO HAVE cellular service on my Ipad. We remained within 10 miles of the coastline at all times, and this app identified all the freighters, both near us, and I could also look ahead and behind us. I was then able to hail them and discuss course and direction with them. There were a few times we needed to adjust our course a tiny bit, and avoid issues well in advance. This app was a life saver for our voyage. Even when I upgrade to onboard AIS, I will still use this app to see the freighters that are outside of the VHF line of site range to predict CPA. Thanks Marine Traffic!!!!

Free unlocks expire when app closed

I was looking for an app to track my vehicle shipment. This app does a great job of that and more. There’s a catch for free accounts, however. You get three “past route” and three “vessel info” unlocks before having to register and pay. No problem, I thought. Just want to track one ship over a period of 3-5 days. So day one I unlock the past route and vessel info for my ship. Very cool info! Day two I go to check on the vessel and… I have to use another unlock for both the past route and vessel info. Now day two again, but I closed the app and it wants to use my final unlock for both the route and vessel info. It’s the same ship on the same route. If you’re going to subscribe, this won’t matter to you. If you’re like me and only have a single, one-off use of the app, go for it but don’t close the app! You’ll have to use your limited unlocks again and quickly run out. I hope the app dev will consider allowing each unlock to last for the current sailing of the selected ship instead of what seems to expire as soon as I close the app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It means a lot to us! Should you have any suggestions on what could be improved, please let us know in our Community Help:https://bit.ly/3qEQGUa Have a great day!

Was good, recent update made it useless.

This app used to be good for what I needed it for, which was seeing the names of ships near me (I work on ships and frequently need to do this for various reasons). Now, the app doesn’t show any vessel names unless you specifically search for a specific vessel, even when the “vessel names” option is checked. Furthermore, the app used to show you a picture of the vessel for free, which is very useful if you have to visit a specific ship and you don’t know what it looks like. Now when you tap on a ship, you don’t even get a picture. So this app is trying to force me to pay for things that it used to do for free, and it still is possible to do for free if I use google or other apps, so there is literally no reason to use this app anymore. On an unrelated note, the old logo was completely fine. The new logo looks nothing like a ship unless you know in advance that it’s trying to look like a ship viewed from the front. Simpler isn’t always better. It’s an app logo, not a company logo. It should quickly convey what the app is for so that it stands out on a page with 27 other app logos.
We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. We always appreciate customers who take the time to give us their feedback and will definitely pass this on to the relevant team for review. If you have any questions, please contact us at https://bit.ly/3dzeALs

What was the problem?

Way, way back, many centuries ago – well, okay, before 2011 – there wasn’t a VesselFinder. Imagine that! People who needed to find ships anywhere in the world didn’t have an obvious place to turn or were required to pay high charges for inflexible services. They could either try their best with the resources that were available, or they could give up. Neither of those were great choices. So, a bunch of determined people decided to do something about it.

Fully loaded cargo ship on the ocean

The birth of VesselFinder

These were people who had a vision for doing something incredible. Something that would solve the problem. And they did do something great: they got together and set up VesselFinder. From the very start, these people knew several things. They knew the service had to be of outstanding quality. They knew it had to offer something no existing service could. They knew it had to be simple and intuitive to use. Oh, and it had to be reliable and dependable. No pressure, then.

Who’s behind the service?

Right from the start, the people at VesselFinder realised that trying to do everything themselves was a recipe for total burnout. So, they did the sensible thing. They told people who shared their passion for excellence and service about what they were doing. Before long, they had a large team of people specialising in everything from software engineering to maritime design. Experts have worked on every aspect of VesselFinder.

How does VesselFinder work?

You’ve probably looked at VesselFinder and thought… well, perhaps your first thought was, “Wow!” We get it, there’s a lot to take in. But after you’ve got over the amazingness of seeing all those little coloured circles and arrows dotted around the world map, you may have started wondering about another question. That question is, “How do they do that?”

So, how do you do that?

Surprisingly perhaps, the answer to this question doesn’t involve having millions of people swimming around after the ships and scribbling down locations on a waterproof iPad. That would be great, but it would need a whole lot of people. It’s actually all down to some really cool technology. For its friends, Vesselfinder.com is built on the Automatic Identification System, or AIS . Yes, you count as friends! A massive network of receivers all over the globe transmits signals constantly, which the VesselFinder service decodes and turns into the stuff you can see on the site.

What do people use VesselFinder for?

Now, there’s a question that’s as long as a piece of string. A really, really long piece of string, too. But the short answer is “pretty much anything”. As time has passed, the VessselFinder team have added more and more services and options, so that now it’s the go-to place for anyone needing fast, reliable information. Whether they’re using the website, social media or an app, the drive to provide the best is the same.

Sea Dream Yacht Club on the ocean and surrounded by jet skies

What services are provided?

Vesselfinder.com keeps track of more than 100,000 vessels . They can be anywhere in the world, from the Indian Ocean to Canada’s Great Lakes. These positions are updated regularly , each and every day. You can check out which ports a ship has called it and the details of its voyage. You can see where a ship’s been and where it’s heading with precise and accurate heading and speed information.

Can VesselFinder really offer so much?

Yes – but that isn’t the half of it! The My Fleet facility on VesselFinder Premium allows users to access customised data from selected vessels in a flash . There are clear, colour photos of tens of thousands of ships , as well as handy images showing port infrastructure . Time is money in the maritime business, so the ability to analyse traffic density is crucial – VesselFinder offers that, too. Not to mention a comprehensive maritime news service.

How do people use VesselFinder?

However they like! The VesselFinder philosophy is not to tell users what to do with the data but to give them all the tools they need to choose how to use it. Some people may need to keep a close eye on a small number of vessels, while others might require a broader perspective. In many cases, users will want to access the service on the move, which is why VesselFinder offers clear, fast apps for both iOS and Android.

Flexible search options

Similarly, finding a ship is sometimes more straightforward if you search by its name – but sometimes it’s not. Maybe you only have its Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) or ISO number . Guess what? You can do that with VesselFinder. You can also check a vessel’s details to ensure you have the right one. Flag, tonnage, year of construction, draught, where it’s going, how fast it’s going, number of crew named Bob… okay, maybe not that last one. But hey, if there’s enough demand, perhaps they will work on it

Real-Time Tracking and Alerts

Stay up-to-date and secure with VesselFinder’s real-time tracking feature. Whether it’s for personal interest, maritime business, or security reasons, users can track vessels in real-time, seeing their exact location on the map. This feature is handy for logistics companies monitoring cargo, families keeping track of a sailor’s journey, or enthusiasts following iconic ships. Plus, up alerts to get notified about specific vessel movements , ensuring you never miss an important update.

Historical Data and Voyage Analysis

Dive into the past with VesselFinder’s comprehensive historical data. This feature is a goldmine for researchers, maritime historians, or anyone curious about a vessel’s past voyages. Analyse routes, speeds, port calls, and various time frames . Businesses can use this data for market analysis or to improve operational efficiency.

Information about Ports

Gain insights into global port activity with VesselFinder’s detailed port information. This invaluable tool is essential for logistics managers, shipping companies, and maritime enthusiasts. Users can access up-to-date information on port arrivals and departures, estimated times of arrival, and current port status . This feature also provides historical data, offering insights into port traffic trends and seasonal variations. Whether planning a shipment, analysing market trends, or simply curious about port operations, VesselFinder’s port information section is a comprehensive resource for understanding the dynamics of maritime trade and logistics.

Who would find VesselFinder interesting?

The short answer to that is: everyone ! Many users often ask, ‘Is VesselFinder free of charge?’ and the answer is yes, as the site offers numerous essential features at no cost, ensuring free access to its valuable maritime tracking services. There’s so much on VesselFinder that you’re almost certain to find whatever you need from your ship tracking and information service. For example:

Cruise Ship Seven Seas Mariner in a harbour with some fishing boats in the foreground

Ship spotters

Vesselfinderm is a tremendous resource for people who love ships and the sea . Whether you’re into following giant container ships around the globe, tracking the path of supertankers as their oil deliveries keep the world’s industries running, or simply discovering vessels you never knew existed, you can do it with VesselFinder – and all in the blink of an eye.

If you love to travel the world, VesselFinder is for you, too. Are you thinking of heading off on a sun-soaked cruise? See where your voyage will take you and thrill to the names of the exotic ports you’ll be calling at. Wondering what you’ll see if you sail down the English Channel or St Lawrence Seaway? Checking with Vessel Finder will tell you.

Ship owners

VesselFinder is the easiest way to keep track of your ships – and not just yours. Find out straight away if your competitors have been using more efficient routes or calling at new ports to streamline their itineraries. Compare your ships in size, tonnage and age to those of others in your market sector. Use the photo library to see how your fleet resembles or differs from the companies you’re up against.

Company managers

You don’t have to work in the maritime industry for VesselFinder to work for you. So many goods travel by sea that anyone trading internationally will benefit from keeping track. You’ll be able to judge how long deliveries will take, whether your rivals are getting them sooner and whether you should think about changing shipping and destination ports.

Where else is comparable technology used?

Vesselfinder.com is a pretty impressive service. It’s also something that’s being noticed by more and more people in other sectors all around the world. It’s, therefore, not surprising that there’s a lot of interest in using similar tech in other areas. For example:

Flightradar24

This excellent flight tracker site is pretty much the aviation equivalent of VesselFinder. It’s been running since 2006, and since that time, it’s developed from a fun hobby to one of the world’s most-used tracking sites. The ADS-B (Automatic Detection Surveillance – Broadcast) tech the site uses does a very similar job to the one AIS does for VesselFinder, which means it can also offer tremendous accuracy and reliability. Flightradar24 is so good that major players in the aviation industry use it.

Tracking technology can help on land, too, and Rail radar applies it to Britain’s rail network. The service offers an excellent overview of trains all over the country. There’s a clear map that lets you see at a glance not only where trains are but who operates them. A simple click-through interface gives you immediate access to running information, including to-the-second timings for station stops, as well as any delays.

if you are a seafarer working on ships or in the offshore industry,  you would continuously prowl, looking for better companies, salary, and working conditions (Nothing wrong, a common practice). Well, those might also be the reasons to look for a new job in every field, but for a mariner, they contribute a little “extra” towards deciding a new maritime job opportunity. (Ask a mariner and you would know the answer!)

VESSEL FINDER – THE LIVE VESSEL TRACKING APP

Vessel finder shows various types of vessels as shown on a live map. Isn’t it helpful? You can now maximize the use of this ship locator in-conjunction with Ship-Tracking.net. You can find an online free map inclusive of data coming from the central database with the use of an AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology. Don’t worry about the technicalities of vesselfinder because it’s easy to navigate. We keep in mind the ease of access for the users for them to get necessary information without hassle. Concerning marine traffic, it contains much-integrated features and layers. Specifically, at vessel finder, you won’t be able to find information concerning weather conditions like winds overlay. Some of its limitations are that VesselFinder service has fewer AIS receivers and do not cover the southern Adriatic area. On the contrary, it is the best tracker for boats often displaying small vessels in comparison to what Marine Traffic can offer.

VesselFinder1

Who Uses Vessel Finder?

Numerous people are being interested in ship AIS service like vesselfinder. Who wouldn’t? Apart from the wide variety of information that can be accessed on it, it is also user-friendly. In just a click, essential information that you need can come as quick and as convenient as possible.

If we’re looking at vessel finder in the most basic level, it is regularly used by the ship spotters, hobbyist, and of course, crew members’ families. These are the people who want to monitor and follow the voyage of their loved one. They want to be updated with information about it. It makes them feel at ease at some point.

Moving forward to business purposes of vessel finder, the use of this platform is being maximized by multiple companies around the world. With all of the extensive information that can be found here, it is undeniably a perfect research tool for that wide-array of needs that can be significant to the NGO’, manufacturers, traders, media organizations, and even government. Its data collected is really wide-ranging and useful.

We’re not stopping there; the data is received and processed from the vessel finder is also helpful in understanding and studying the global demand and supply tendencies, specific niche, and even analyze competitors.

Most obviously, the experts of the shipping industry make use of vessel finder as they monitor the global fleet together with their ships as it is also playing an important role relating to business prospects identification.

VesselFinder2

Vessel Positions on VesselFinder

It provides the up-to-date AIS position and other data concerning any vessels’ voyage as being reported by Terrestrial AIS stations or Satellites.

What’s good about this vessel finder’s feature is that there’s no limit when you request. The results may address a particular ship or several ships, depending on your preference. Its response is beneficial as it shows you the latest AIS position data which contains the voyage and the master data, precisely. The format will go out in XML or JSON format. To give you an idea, JSON files are much easier to understand since its human-readable than XML as it only supports text and number data type. As per the XML, it contains various data types like text, numbers, images, charts, and even graphs, which is much technical.

This service grants access to three different datasets, depending on the customer’s needs:

Vessel finder allows access to the user depending on their needs. Users can find AIS dataset which contains coordinates, course, speed, heading, current draught, destination, ETA, name, call sign, IMO, MMSI, AIS type, and even dimensions. Another type is the voyage dataset where you can find origin port name and LOCODE, country, and time of departure. Lastly, the master dataset of vesselfinder contains the detailed type of data about the ship, its flag, year of build, builder, ownership, capacity, as well as dimensions.

VesselFinder3

Fleet Positions on VesselFinder

It contains data concerning a fixed list of vessels’ AIS position and voyage. The VesselsList API service allows users to access data of a predefined list of the ship that can be shown in JSON or XML format. Rest assured that the data being received, gathered, and processed has a global coverage since it makes use of the Terrestrial AIS stations (T-AIS) or Satellites (S-AIS).

In comparison to the vessel positions, it also grants access to users in three levels, namely, AIS dataset, voyage dataset, and master dataset. It allows the user to receive a regular update regarding the position of a vessel as fast as every 1 minute. It is not just limited to one; you can monitor your fleet of 20 vessels every minute. It is also helpful in tracking the world trade flow of LNG (Liquefied natural gas) thus; it needs to have updated information for the LNG tanker ships’ and it can be updated every 6 hours. Don’t worry, each API response will automatically provide you the data that you need as being reported by T-AIS or S-AIS network.

Vessel in Custom Area

Another feature of vesselfinder is this LiveData API service which enables the user to have access about the data of vessels in a specific area or port as the ship position information is being gathered as well by the Terrestrial AIS stations or Satellites. So, its coverage is global. It also provides data in JSON or XML format; you can choose whichever is much easier for you to understand. It also gives data depending on where the needs of a certain customer will fall as being compared with the previous service, namely, AIS dataset, Voyage dataset, and Master dataset.

VesselFinder4

Port Calss API

LiveData API service allows the user to obtain real-time position data concerning all vessels that can be found in a specific port or area. Data given is available in JSON or XML format, you can choose whichever is easier for you to understand. It also has three different datasets, namely AIS dataset, Voyage dataset, and Master dataset.

If what’s beneficial for you is monitoring all of the vessels’ activity in a certain area, you can make use of this feature that can be employ at vesselfinder as it allows you to get the latest updates about the position of all the vessels in your assigned area of interest. It can also be a tool that can help you optimize port operations.

Expected Arrivals on Vessel Finder

ExpectedArrivals API service contains information about vessels’ expected time of arrival (ETA) in a pre-defined port or area as being received, monitored, and processed by the AIS. Your query has no limits and could apply to various ports as specified by its LOCODE or coding scheme. It also has three different datasets namely, AIS dataset, Voyage dataset, and Master dataset, whichever meets your needs as discussed previously.

If you need to find the ETA of a certain ship arriving in the following 10 days, then you can have the details of it by using this as the API response with around 40 ships that are expected to arrive on your pre-defined locations.

Vessel Particular information

MasterData API service provides detailed ship information, technical specifications, manager and owner contacts for any ship with an IMO number. Each query to the API could apply for a different ship or a fleet of ships specified by IMO number and there are no limits on the number of queried ships or the interval of queries.

If you need a much extensive and technical dataset, including its capacity, ownership, and other information about a vessel, you can make use of MasterData API service as being introduced at vesselfinder. To be specific on the data, it contains much-detailed ship information, namely, IMO number, ship name, flag, detailed ship type, year of built, builder company, owner’s name, manager’s name, length, draught, gross tonnage, net tonnage, deadweight, TEU capacity and even crude capacity.

(Note: Library Mail is a related service for eligible organizations, including schools, museums, nonprofits, and other groups.)

Additional Package Fees:

Dimensional (DIM) weight rates apply to large, lightweight packages. If your package is larger than 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches):

  • Multiply Length x Width x Height and divide by 166 to get the DIM weight in pounds.
  • If the DIM weight is greater than the actual package weight, you’ll need to pay the DIM weight price.

Example: You have a package that is 16” x 12” x 10” and weighs 5 lbs.

  • Multiply length x width x height to get the volume of 1,920 cubic inches. That’s larger than 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches), so you must divide by 166 to find its DIM weight: 1,920 divided by 166 equals 11.56, which rounds up to 12 lbs.
  • The DIM weight of 12 lbs is greater than the actual package weight of 5 lbs. You must pay the postage as if the package actually weighs 12 lbs.

If you omit or give inaccurate dimensions and/or don’t pay the DIM weight rate (when it applies), you’ll pay a dimension-noncompliance fee of $1.50.

  • For ground shipping via USPS Ground Advantage, you’ll pay more if your package measures:
  • Between 22 and 30 inches long: add $4.00
  • More than 30 inches long: add $8.40
  • More than 2 cubic feet (3,456 cubic inches): add $18.00
  • For expedited shipping (via Priority Mail Express or Priority Mail), you’ll pay more if your package measures:
  • More than 30 inches long: add $18.00
  • More than 2 cubic feet (3,456 cubic inches): add $30.00

For business shippers using Parcel Select® service, learn more about how to measure your package and what fees may apply .

TIP: Use the USPS ® Price Calculator tool to calculate your domestic postage costs. You'll need to know your package’s weight, shape, and size measurements.

MAGA Boat Parade returns as Donald Trump set to visit Detroit

A “Make America Great Again” Boat Parade is scheduled to set sail from Lake St. Clair’s shore in Macomb County on Saturday, the same day former president and presumptive 2024 Republican nominee Donald Trump is set to make two appearances in Detroit.

“Michigan, as the Great Lakes State, knows how to show off its nautical enthusiasm,” Rosanne Ponkowski, a spokesperson for event organizers the Michigan Conservative Coalition, said in a press release.

“In that regard, nothing will do better than a massive MAGA boat parade,” she said.

The parade, a tribute to the former president’s 78th birthday on Friday, will embark the following afternoon at 1:01 p.m., precisely, from Lake St. Clair off the Nine Mile Tower Mark. Organizers expect the fleet to coast by Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit by 4:01 p.m. — and wrap up shortly after.

A flotilla of some 300 boats participated in a similar boat-centric birthday bash during the 2020 election. Supporters flew American and Trump flags in tandem and donned campaign gear.

“We have all seen television coverage of the Florida Trump flotillas and elsewhere. Frankly, the Michigan MAGA Boat Parade in 2020 was much bigger and more fun,” said Ponkowski. “Our 2024 Michigan MAGA Boat Parade is expected to be even larger!”

Headlining the event is a 74-foot flagship boat, accompanied by a privately owned 80-foot tug boat. Seaplanes, helicopters and drones are also expected to join a slew of water bound vessels. Bikers for Trump will ride parallel to the fleet on roadways along the parade route, and boats will join the kick-off crew as the parade passes marinas along the way, organizers said.

Back on land, Trump is slated to speak at a roundtable discussion with constituents at a Detroit church . The candidate will also appear at Hungtington Place to deliver the keynote speech at The People’s Convention, a three-day conference run by the conservative nonprofit Turning Point Action. The list of speakers for the event boasts several prominent figures in the GOP, including members of Trump’s family and former Trump administration staffers.

US Senate race: With Trump endorsement and lead, Rogers tries to fend off rivals

In 2020, President Joe Biden received 94% of votes in Detroit , while Trump took just 5%. The city has a majority Black population — a key voting demographic in the nation. Biden won 92% of Black voters in 2020 , but polls show support has waned. In the current election cycle, both candidates are vying for the support of Black voters, and that is thought to be a target of Trump’s visit.

While Tennessee added a run in the top of the seventh, Florida State's bats came alive in the bottom of the inning. The Seminoles hit back-to-back home runs from Daniel Cantu and Alex Lodise to cut the deficit to four.

Tennessee vs. Florida State | Starting lineups

Undefeated in Omaha, Tennessee takes on Florida State with a chance to advance to the MCWS championship series. A Seminoles win would force the  if necessary game tomorrow.

Here are the starting lineups:

FSU vs. Tennessee starting lineups

🐊 Florida routs Kentucky, advances to semis

Florida beats Kentucky

The Gators end Kentucky's first-ever trip to Omaha and earn a date with the Aggies in tonight's semifinals. Florida's 15-4 victory was highlighted by a seven-run first inning — which included a Donay grand slam — and a Caglianone homer in the sixth to set a new Florida all-time home run record at 75. Tonight, Florida will take on Texas A&M. The Gators will have to beat the Aggies twice.

The Florida star solidifies his name in the Florida history books as his left field bomb sets a new all-time home run program record, surpassing Matt LaPorta’s 74.

Caglianone's 75 career home runs are tied for the most among active players with LSU’s Tommy White and are the third-most by a single player in SEC history.

🥵 Gators add 5 more runs in the 5th| UF 14, UK 4

The Gators have been relentless at the plate and are showing no signs of slowing down. Brody Donay launched the ball well over the fence with an exit speed of 118 MPH for his second homer of the day. Thats the hardest-hit ball in the 2024 MCWS.

Then, a Shelnut bunt scored Caglianone, who stole third to get in scoring position before a Heyman double brought Shelnut back to home plate. A Wilson two-RBI single to right field capped off the inning to give the Gators a 10-run lead.

📈 Florida adds to the lead | UF 9, UK 1

With two outs and bases loaded after Kentucky intentionally walked Caglionone, Cade Kurlan stepped up to the plate and delivered with a two-RBI single to center. The Gators go into the fourth with a comfortable lead and plenty of baseball to go.

😮‍💨 Gators respond loudly | UF 7, UK 1

Chomp, chomp Wildcats. Seven runs for the Gators and it's only the first inning. Florida evened the score with a Jac Caglianone run off a Colby Shelton double down the right foul line. Then, it was Luke Heyman's two-run single to left field that gave Florida the early lead.
