Okay so I have two speed boats and a Tug, figured I would shoot for the middle with a boat that does 35-42mph on 4s, and can be used in rougher water. First thing was to remove the strut drill it out with a 1/4" drill and insert a 3/16 speed master bushing so the standard flex cables could be used. Next was to install the Leopard 4074 1650 KV motor and raider 150 amp ESC. The boats factory motor mount was pretty close but I had to remove the 36mm rear support and dremel it out to 40mm. Next was to slightly open up the rear mount holes that hold in the rear support. Only needed to remove about 1/8" material. Next was to remove the wooden center battery tray and install the ESC mount and then put in two carbon fiber battery trays toward the rear of the boat, to help try and get close to the 30% cog. Finally the last step was to add a longer rear rudder a 645 prop and floatation to the front and rear canopy's with a bungy latch system incase of an unforeseen event.

I will be interested in your progress. I put in the SSS 3074 2074kv. I also switched to a 1.5 flex shaft, but just changed the bearings in the stinger. Running a ProBoat 4019 prop (which would be like a 640 Octura). 120 AMP Aquastar ESC. Due to hooking and spinning-out, I have installed the longer rudder and turn fins, for some improvement. Moved the CG back by mounting the 4 cell pack accross the stern, in front of the servo mount. With this setup, I am getting only 28 MPH. But it still hooks and flips sometimes. I would like to cure this and get some extra speed. I'd like to know how you drilled out the stinger and what sleeve you used. Be aware that the hatch hold-down (cabinet latch) won't stand up to a flip. I run some hockey tape from one side, over the cabin top, and down to the other side.
Ron - The Villages, FL https://castawaysboatworx.org/
I drilled out the stinger with a 1/4" drill bit and installed Speedmaster Bushing 3/16" for Stinger, ose Product ID: ros-spdsd-187. I believe the bungy set-up with the catches will hold okay if I flip but won't know till it happens. How did you mount the battery in front of the servo it doesn't interfere with the collet drive? I would think you would want to keep the weight as low in the hull as possible. I will try and run the boat this week if it stops raining and will let you know how it performs and will GPS it. Who knows may run like crap as I really have no idea what I am doing I tried too mount the battery trays as far back and to the sides for stability. I also added 2 ounce fiberglass throughout the hull and sides so the boat is heavier then stock so this may add to the stability.
///// double post
The battery bridges across the hull, above the stuffing tube. I use Velcro patches on each side of the hull. Here's a video. Looks faster than the GPS says. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiNWaih9RmE Where are you in NY?
I am out on Long Island NY but I own land in Beverly Hills Florida in the Pine Ridge Estates. My wife has one more year until she retires and we head down. Which villages are you in? I understand there are several of the Village communities throughout Florida.
Originally Posted by Newboater I am out on Long Island NY but I own land in Beverly Hills Florida in the Pine Ridge Estates. My wife has one more year until she retires and we head down. Which villages are you in? I understand there are several of the Village communities throughout Florida. There is only one "The Villages" community that is associated with this developer. 60 miles north of Orlando and 20 miles south of Ocala. Started as a mobile home park 25 years ago. Now a major retirement golfing community of about 55,000 homes, and still growing. I'm a LI native, and used to watch the nitro boats at Artist Lake. I understand that there is a group at Eisenhower park in Nassau county.
I am out in Wading River, and go to Artist lake. They don't allow the gas boats anymore only electric. Never been to Eisenhower park. According to the map you are directly across from Pine Ridge Estates. Going to run the TFL tomorrow so will have some information for you. My wife though there was several Village locations, I thought there was only one. It is where everything is contained and a lot of people own golf carts to get around right?

My wife though there was several Village locations, I thought there was only one. It is where everything is contained and a lot of people own golf carts to get around right? Well, it's only you and me on the thread, so I don't feel like I am hijacking the topic. Beverly Hills is across the state, but about 40 miles away. Inside "The Villages" there are about 50 named villages. About 500-1000 homes per village. Three "town squares" with stores, restaurants, and daily live music. Yeah, people get around in golf carts. Tons of clubs, golf courses, recreation centers, and pools. We have about 60 guys in the fast electric boat club. We run for fun and practice twice a week on a small local lake. Race twice a month on a bigger lake in the next town outside The Villages. Now back to our topic. Even near 30 MPH, this boat gets a lot of attention. But, the average FE hull in the club is going around 35-45, and that's my goal. I use a Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS. I also have hotter motors and ESCs to try, but right now handling has been holding me back. I do have another even longer rudder on a longer bracket (left over from a Pursuit) to try. Good luck, and keep us informed.
Good grief, I just found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkoM5Q_PWC0

Took the TFL princess for the first run. The water was choppy with 15 mph winds. It was leaking around the water jacket filling the hull with water so we had to cut the run short. The GPS said she ran 32mph But the boat was running way too wet. I am going to fix the water jacket tonight. Going back tomorrow and will make adjustments to the battery position and strut to see what the top speed will be. The leopard 4074 at 1650 kv on 4s is turning low rpm's so I May need to swing a bigger prop. https://youtu.be/bFRzG-ug914
Yes, a low KV motor like that needs either higher voltage or a bigger wheel. And, If you can trim it to be more loose, it should get up to 40ish MPH. Now I'm getting motivated to get my Princess out and give it a few tweaks.

You've got good gap between the drive dog and stinger, is that prop sharpened and balanced? It looks rather dull and blunt perhaps that is an issue not having the speed you want.
NEVER SATISFIED RACING Fine Design 32 V-Hull 4082+6s
That wasn't the prop I ran but all of my props are sharpened and balanced that one is sharp and balanced but was used last year.
Here is the run on 6s with the 645 prop. Performance and handling are pretty good. Top speed was 40.6 Maybe faster but Bigford and I collided which knocked both my battery trays loose. https://youtu.be/wyy5UNVIzcQ IMG_1294.jpg

I had to tap you as I couldn't catch you otherwise

I'll stick with the 2074kv motor on 4S for now, but try a larger prop.
She was moving for a big boat..... It's a shame that I dug in the turn and rolled
No issues, with wakes and ripples from the other boat you can't predict what is going to happen with the handling, your boat is lighter so it skips a little more across the surface. Runs real nice on 6s. I have to finish the Aeromarine meam machine I have. Hoping that does around 56mph like yours.
Originally Posted by zooma Good news. I'll stick with the 2074kv motor on 4S for now, but try a larger prop. Here is some info for you. According to the OSE Speed calculator. Your set up should run 44mph and your running 28mph difference of 14mph I should be running 59 and am running 40.5mph a difference of 17.5. Both the boats are loosing 31-36% from the calculated speed. Point being the hull design and size of the boat make it slow. If you go to a bigger prop try a 642 first and check temps. I don't know how much heat the higher kv motor will make or the increase in amps from swinging a bigger prop. Obviously between the small test bed of the two of us and the fairly close % of speed we both have lost, I would say we are driving around water bricks I wanted 35-40 out of the boat on 4s but I don't think that is a reality with this boat and the 4074 1650kv.
Just passed the lake it's as smooth as glass
smooth as glass will slow you down as well, you actually want a little bit of ripple to get some air under the hull. Also, if you haven't all ready, wet sand the bottom of the hull with some 600 grit wet sandpaper, helps break the water tension. My 30" mono is running 4s and an SSS 3674 - 2075kv motor and running 40mph. Supposed to be running 46 with a 445 prop according to the OSE calculator. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyLERJ2YlsU My 4082 - 1450kv on 6s with a M545 prop is topping 50mph https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfdW6UeoduI

I think the boat is just a cruising pig I am happy with it as I just wanted a middle of the road boat. Goal was 35-40mph which I think needs to be on 6s with my set-up.
I might be able to get a little more out of my set up I only used the programming card to set up my esc Might hit the lake tonight after work
Based on the video I think your princess runs really well!
Originally Posted by Tamelesstgr Based on the video I think your princess runs really well! Thanks I really don't understand why it is so inefficient cutting through the water though, maybe the full run strakes on the hull add drag?
Originally Posted by Bigford I might be able to get a little more out of my set up I only used the programming card to set up my esc Might hit the lake tonight after work Do you want me to bring down the rescue tug?? The way you drive I am pretty sure you will be upside down in no time
I think it has more to do with how tall it is, I'd say there is more drag on the tall bridge etc. Have you tried adding some positive strut to keep the front of the hull out of the water? It will make the hull more unstable though.
