Taste of Country

It’s Craig Morgan’s ‘Redneck Yacht Club’ Video!

Blake Shelton and Aaron Tippin are two country stars that make a cameo in this video for Morgan's 2005 hit. The future Mr. Miranda Lambert still had his signature hairdo in those days, and he gets all wet when Morgan splashes him with water. Tippin is seen mostly on a jet ski, making trouble with the clip's star.

Shelton and Morgan have had a long friendship, and it doesn't take much to get one teasing or making fun of the other. 'Redneck Yacht Club' was a Top 5 hit and went gold for over 500,000 singles sold. Alongside 'That's What I Love About Sunday,' 'Redneck Yacht Club' is a signature hit for Morgan, partially due to its timely release and this video -- but mostly because it's so much fun to listen to.

Craig Morgan releases new EP 'Enlisted,' featuring Blake Shelton, Lainey Wilson and more

Portrait of Audrey Gibbs

Craig Morgan released his new EP "Enlisted" on Oct. 20, full of gritty country music and a star-studded roster of guest appearances.

The six-track EP features vocal performances from Trace Adkins, Luke Combs, Gary LeVox, Jelly Roll, Blake Shelton and Lainey Wilson.

Morgan, a Tennessee-based country music staple and Army veteran, is known for hitting the top of the country charts with beloved songs he revisits in his new EP.

"Enlisted" reimagines four of Morgan's older songs, including "Almost Home," "Redneck Yacht Club," "That’s What I Love About Sunday" and “International Harvester." The EP also introduced two new songs as the first and last tracks, "Raise the Bar" with Combs and "That Ain’t Gonna Be Me" with Adkins.

Standouts from the new EP include Morgan's twangy, foot-stomping reimagining of the 2006 hit "International Harvester" alongside Wilson, one of country's brightest. Another is Morgan and Jelly Roll's revamp of the 2002 song "Almost Home," which the two previewed together last year in an emotional performance on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

"Making this record has been so much fun because I got to get in the studio with some of my friends and also re-create some of my catalog in a way that feels like brand-new music," Morgan said in a press release.

The aptly titled EP "Enlisted" comes after Morgan enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and was sworn in onstage from the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville on July 29.

“I’m excited to once again serve my country and be all I can be in hopes of encouraging others to be a part of something greater than ourselves," Morgan told the Army . "I love being an artist, but I consider it a true privilege and honor to work with what I believe are the greatest of Americans, my fellow soldiers. God bless America. Go Army.”

For 17 years, Morgan served in the Army and Reserve as a staff sergeant and fire support specialist. Now, he'll be a soldier in the Reserve while continuing his "civilian career" as a musician and singer-songwriter, releasing music and touring.

Morgan, who has received Army service and merit awards, will be assigned to Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, one of the most important U.S. Army facilities in the country.

Along with his enlistment, Morgan has stayed busy, recently kicking off his God, Family, Country Tour 2023 and releasing a memoir last fall, also titled "God, Family, Country," which Morgan co-wrote with Jim DeFelice, author of "American Sniper."

"Enlisted" track list:

1. “Raise the Bar” featuring Luke Combs.

2. “Almost Home” featuring Jelly Roll.

3. “Redneck Yacht Club” featuring Blake Shelton.

4. “That’s What I Love About Sunday” featuring Gary LeVox.

5. “International Harvester” featuring Lainey Wilson.

6. “That Ain’t Gonna Be Me” featuring Trace Adkins.

Most of us have already had our fill of summer fun, right? Such as drinking beer and just having a good time with our friends and family. Craig Morgan’s album My Kind of Livin’, which features two of his greatest hits , captures the same vibe. “Redneck Yacht Club” and “That’s What I Love About Sunday.”

“Redneck Yacht Club,” the second single from his album My Kind of Livin’, was released in 2005. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, trailing Keith Urban’s “Better Life.”

Peter Zavadil directed the music video, which was shot at Tennessee’s Percy Priest Lake. Morgan may be seen having the fun of his life with his buddies in the summer heat. The music is lively in a way that will make your body sway.

That might be why so many listeners fell in love with it. So much so that the RIAA awarded the song a GOLD for 500,000 sales and another GOLD for digital downloads. Thom Shepherd and Steve Williams wrote the song initially.

Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty Singing “Making Believe” Is Nothing But Perfection

As of 2022, the music video on YouTube still has a reasonably high number of views, with around 26 million views in total. The music video includes a soothing background track and an upbeat vibe. That might be the reason why so many listeners, both old and new, were able to resonate with it.

And for some additional fun fact about the song, Blake Shelton , Aaron Tippin , and other country music stars also made a cameo appearance in the said music video. The party that the group of devoted friends is throwing represents the enjoyment they experience on the lake “all summer long.”

On the other hand, Craig Morgan once told USA Today that he believes ‘redneck’ was once regarded as a negative word, but that is no longer the case. For him, it’s now more of a way of life than anything else.

So, if you’re searching for a song to listen to while driving to the beach this summer, Craig Morgan’s “Redneck Yacht Club” is definitely a great choice. You may listen to the song right now by clicking here.

Craig Morgan Teams Up With Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins & More On 'Enlisted'

Craig Morgan initially wasn't sold on the idea of re-recording his smash-hit early 2000s anthem, “Redneck Yacht Club,” until he penned a song perfect for Luke Combs .

Morgan penned a track that “sounds exactly like something Luke would release,” and rather than pitching it to the “Going, Going, Gone” artist to record solo, Morgan opted to make it a collaboration. Now, “Raise The Bar” is one of two original tracks on Morgan’s new EP, which released on Friday (October 20). Morgan said as his EP made its debut on Friday: “It was so special to have this talented group re-record some of the hits and a couple new ones. I’m really proud of this project and these people.”

Enlisted also includes the re-recorded version of “Redneck Yacht Club,” featuring Blake Shelton — who appeared in the 2005 single’s music video, Morgan noted — along with duets with Jelly Roll , Gary LeVox , Lainey Wilson and Trace Adkins . Morgan recruited Adkins to team up with him on “That Ain’t Gonna Be Me,” the other original song that bookends the 6-track project (uniquely spotlighting Adkins’ voice in the first verse). Morgan said it was the final, last-minute addition to the record, and he’s “excited we rounded it out with that song. …It’s one of those songs that talks about the pride in our country, our God, our family, and standing up for what you believe, and showing love and kindness.”

Morgan recently spoke with iHeartCountry about Enlisted , being sworn into the U.S. Army Reserve on the Grand Ole Opry stage over the summer, going on his “God, Family, Country Tour” and more. He said during the conversation that each artist who appears on his latest record has a personal connection with the song they sing with him. Jelly Roll, for example, spoke on the Opry stage about how “Almost Home” made him want to make music. LeVox previously toured with Morgan and praised “That’s What I Love About Sunday.” Wilson told a story about riding around on a farm with her dad, and the father-daughter duo sang “International Harvester” together.

Morgan said even the country anthems longtime fans know and love will offer a fresh spin as listeners play Enlisted . There’s “some really unique things about it,” he said. “They’re getting a new song as well as getting a song that they have some familiarity with, and maybe a relationship with. …It’s even better in my opinion. I feel like I’ve made one of the better projects I’ve ever made.”

Enlisted ’s release comes months after Morgan surprised the sold-out crowd at the Grand Ole Opry on July 29. The country star was enlisted and sworn into the U.S. Army Reserve on the iconic stage, after previously serving 17 years in the Army and Army Reserve with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. Morgan is returning as a soldier in the Army Reserve, and will continue to tour and release new music while serving the country. Morgan told iHeartCountry that now was the time “to finish something that I started so many years ago,” and “to help with Army recruiting.

“It’s a great opportunity, so we’re excited about it. And for me, it was especially poignant to do it at the Grand Ole Opry because I got to marry both my worlds. My world of music, and my world in the military,” Morgan said. “I love the United States Army. I love the military, and I love serving. It’s a big part of my family’s life. It always has been and it always will be.”

Morgan is gearing up to perform a few more dates on his “God, Family, Country Tour,” a name that’s also appeared in his music and his memoir. Morgan said “God, Family, Country” resonates so powerfully because “it’s who I am.”

“Those are the three most important things in my life, and I firmly believe that they’re the foundation of this country. Our God, our family and the country itself, and love for those things, and passion,” Morgan said. “And I believe that the majority of the people in this nation share that same thing. It’s not always displayed, I realize that, but I think even some of those people who might not always display it, they feel it deep down inside. There’s a lot of turmoil in the world right now, and I’m proud to be a part of a country that stands up for those who are not as privileged. I’ve always been proud to serve in a military that stands up for those that don’t have the opportunity to stand up for themselves, and just be a part of that and do what’s right. It’s the right thing, and that’s a cool place to be.”

After Combs laid down his vocal tracks on the song, the idea of an entire collaborative project quickly followed, and Morgan co-produced the album with writer-producer Phil O’Donnell.

“My management was telling me I should get someone to sing ‘Redneck Yacht Club,’ because it is such a fan favorite,” Morgan says, “and I thought, ‘Well, we just did this collaboration with Luke, so it makes sense to do a duets project.’”

Blake Shelton, who appeared in the original music video for Morgan’s “Redneck Yacht Club” smash in 2005, joins for a Jimmy Buffett-esque, tropical take on the song.

“Craig and I have been friends for many years,” Shelton says in a statement. “I’m a fan of his music and admire him as a human. After all of these years, I still don’t understand why he still feels the need to wear that toupee, but I’m thrilled he asked me to sing with him on ‘Redneck Yacht Club.’”

Morgan also teams with Trace Adkins on another new song, “That Ain’t Gonna Be Me,” which Morgan wrote with Wade Kirby, Trent Willmon and Phil O’Donnell. Gary LeVox, known for his work as part of trio Rascal Flatts, sings a soulful revamp of “That’s What I Love About Sunday.”

The two current leading nominees at this year’s CMA awards — Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll—also join Morgan on the album. Wilson’s honey-twang vocals melt over the lyrics of “International Harvester.”

“It’s an absolute honor to be a part of this record,” Wilson says in a statement. “I remember the first time I ever heard ‘International Harvester’ and the feeling I got knowing that there was music being written that felt like it was made just for me. I come from a family of farmers, so it’s really a full circle moment to be on this track alongside my good friend Craig.”

A year ago, Morgan joined Jelly Roll onstage at the Grand Ole Opry to perform Morgan’s “Almost Home.” Now, they upgrade that performance to an official, emotionally charged recorded duet of the song. The song’s tale of a homeless man dreaming of being nearly home resonated with Jelly Roll.

The “Need a Favor” singer previously told Billboard , “I had got released from jail and it would end up being the last time I was ever in jail, which I am super proud of. And I came here because Craig Morgan had ‘Almost Home,’ and I would listen to it in my jail cell. My cell mates and I used to compare [that song’s story] to jail. You know, like in this horrible circumstance, but kind of mentally, you can always be almost home.’”

The album’s title ties in with the recent news that Morgan enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Morgan also hopes that the project’s fresh recordings expand the influence of these songs to new fans of the genre.

“After COVID, there was this resurgence of the 2000s kind of music, so there were new fans hearing the music,” Morgan says. “With this, we wanted to maintain the sense of who Craig Morgan is with older fans, but at the same time, give them something new and create something for the new fans of the format now.”
