Here, we caught up with Katica, the owner of Katarina Line to hear how she grew her sailing business in Croatia…

Where it all started

“Back in 1992, I started Katarina Line. It was the worst possible time to start a business during the Croatian War of Independence. After working in the travel industry as a travel agent, I used my connections in the industry to grow my business.

After Katica took the leap of faith, the business is now a huge success. Today, Katarina Line operates on land and sea in Croatia, hosting over 165,000 travellers every year with departures that run from April to October across the country. “If you like to travel and love people, tourism is a great fit for you. Once you start it’s a drug and you meet a ton of people.”

Everyday Katica works closely with her daughter, Anamaria and son, Daniel. “We’re a local family-owned company. It can be difficult at times, but good for us,” says Katica. “I enjoy working with young people for their ideas. They usually provide two solutions when confronted with a problem and then they find the answer on their own, which is probably the one we would have chosen anyway!”

Working with local families adds to the overall experience of our travellers’ trips. “We started with wooden fishing or sand removal ships, which were converted into excursion ships. 35 years ago, we added cabins to the ships, then bathrooms. Now, more than half of our ships are made of steel. The government helped to fund and improve the experience with air conditioning,” – perfect for the long, sun-drenched days sailing on the Adriatic Sea.

Ship overview.

Newly built in 2017, Dream Yacht explores the southern Adriatic Sea. She accommodates 40 guests in 20 cabins, 8 of which are on the lower deck and 12 on deck. Each air-conditioned cabin has its own bathroom, wardrobe and drawers, safe and hair dryer. The daily breakfast buffet and 3-course lunch is served in the modern, bright dining room and guests have the opportunity to enjoy a captain's dinner and olive oil and wine tasting on board. A large, partly covered sun deck with loungers offers space to relax and sunbathe between visits to the island.

There are 8 cabins located on the lower deck, each with private shower/toilet and washbasin.

Throughout your excursion, look forward to lots of fantastic gastronomic delights. You’ll have opportunities for enjoying delicious eats at local restaurants on land as well as mouthwatering meals onboard, served on a half-board basis. A buffet-style breakfast with a wide selection of hot and cold foods are offered everything morning along with multi-course lunches. The bar serves a selection of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks for purchase, payable at the end of the excursion. Dining is enjoyed in a casual, relaxed atmosphere with no formal dress code.

“She is everything we conceived her to be, and so much more,” Wider CEO Fabio Fraternale said in a statement. “She shows that performance yachts can still be luxurious; that 60-footers can still be built with a superyacht ethos; and that whatever a client imagines, we can make a reality.”

The layout of the first hull was tailored to the owner, with the main deck offering a spacious owner’s suite forward, two additional guest cabins aft, a salon with a designer galley, and a head for guests. The interior, executed by the in-house design team at Wider Centro Stile, evokes a luxury car cabin with high-end materials and high-quality craftsmanship. The decor combines oak flooring and cleverly integrated lighting with rich leathers, sleek marbles, and glossy lacquers.

“This is the epitome of the WiLder concept—bespoke interiors completed to the very highest superyacht standards of finish, combining Italian design flair with the ultimate craftsmanship,” adds chief of Wider Centro Stile Michele Lubrano Lobianco.

The first hull was launched from Wider’s Vision Hub in Fano this past February, but the next two bespoke examples will be built at Wider’s Superyacht Hub in Venice. Stay tuned to see what wild custom touches the owners add to hulls two and three.
