What If the Weather Is Bad?

If the weather is bad on the day of your yacht rental, the first thing we will do is wait to see if the weather clears up. In West Palm Beach, a rainy morning may turn into a beautiful day in the span of an hour. However, if the weather stays bad to the point where your rental has to be canceled, we will issue you a voucher that you can use to rebook a rental in the future. This will be valid for a rental of an equal or less cost.

South of Worth Avenue is the ultra-exclusive social club, the Everglades Club that was originally intended as a Convalescent Club for WWI wounded in 1918. The war ended within a few months of completion and it became a private club. The Palm Beach Docks are located just north of the Club’s golf course and is the only public marina on Palm Beach Island. Since the 1940s, the Town Docks have provided slips for sail and power yachts up to 260’. It is currently closed for a $34million renovation and will be able to accommodate larger superyachts when it reopens in October 2021.

Across the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway (AICW) from the island via the Flagler Memorial Bridge (A1A), Flagler Drive runs along the western shore in West Palm Beach. Just south of the bridge, on the Lake Worth Lagoon, is the site of the Palm Beach International Boat Show, described as “one of the top 5 boat shows in country with more than $1.2 billion worth of boats, yachts and accessories from the leading marine manufacturers.” The PBIBS is typically held annually in March. Check the website for updates on 2021 schedule. The Boat Show site is about 4-5 blocks northeast of City Place, an urban center of shopping, dining and entertainment that spans from Fern St on the north to Okeechobee Blvd on the south and South Quadrille Blvd on the east to N. Sapodilla Ave on the west.

Some top-notch marinas are located on Flagler Drive, such as the world class Palm Beach Yacht Club, founded in 1890. The marina can accommodate yachts, sportfish and sailing vessels up to 150’ on a first-come, first-served basis. Annual dockage contracts are available. Palm Harbor Marina located in a prime downtown spot on Flagler Drive near City Place, is south of Flagler Bridge and minutes to the Palm Beach Inlet. It has 200 slips for vessels 50-200’ in length. Rybovich Marina is a luxurious resort style superyacht marina with 85 wet slips for yachts up to 300’ and unobstructed deep-water access to the Atlantic Ocean. North Palm Beach Marina is a 5-star rated designated Safe Harbor with 107 slips for vessels 45-150’ and is open to the public 7 days a week. It offers the complimentary use of the North Palm Beach Country Club with pool, tennis and 18-hole Jack Nicklaus golf course. No bridges and easy ocean access. Lake Park Harbor Marina is dog-friendly and a designated Clean Marina with overnight trailer parking for boaters making roundtrip ocean crossings to the Bahamas (60 nautical miles to West End). The marina has 112 slips. Check dockwa.com website for specific marina information.

Some day-use boat slips in Palm Beach County Parks are: Burt Reynolds Park, DuBois Park and Fullerton Island, all located in Jupiter; Juno Park (Juno Beach); Ocean Inlet Park (Ocean Ridge); Okeeheelee Park (west of WPB); Peanut Island (Riviera Beach); Phil Foster Park (Riviera Beach); and Stub Canal (WPB). Check with the Palm Beach County Parks Dept. for further details.

A most popular boaters’ destination is the 79-acre Peanut Island Park located at the mouth of the Lake Worth Inlet and the “heart” of the Lake Worth Lagoon. This island was created in 1918 from dredging projects the created the Lake Worth Inlet and the Port of Palm Beach. Peanut Island features beautiful clear waters for fishing (from the island’s pier), and beaches for sunbathing and swimming. There’s a 17-acre tent campground (reservations only) and beach camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Docking is available during the day also on a first-come, first-served basis. The island also features public picnic areas and pavilions and a paver pathway around the island’s perimeter. Check the Palm Beach County Parks Dept. for further details.

Another popular spot for local boaters, is the Loxahatchee River Sandbar in the Jupiter-Tequesta area. It is long enough to accommodate “hundreds” of people—an indication of how crowded it can get on nice weekends! Locals refer to it as the Jupiter Sandbar or Coney Island! Boats tend to show up about 3 hours before low tide, when it is covered by 1-2 feet of water before the sandbar is exposed to get a spot. This is not a county or state park, so there are no facilities. The sandbar is a fun place to hang out and party, with great views of the Jupiter Lighthouse, beautiful homes that line the shore and the bridges over the AICW. With 125 miles of waterways, Palm Beach County is a boater’s delight. Besides the north-south Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway, there’s the Lake Worth Lagoon (part of AICW), the southern point of Lake Okeechobee, navigable canals, inlets to the Atlantic Ocean, and Florida’s only nationally designated wild and scenic river—the Loxahatchee!

As with every Palm Beach fleet member, the PB85 is constructed using the yard’s proprietary V-Warp technology. The strong and efficient hull is a sandwich of foam, e-glass, and epoxy resin, while the streamlined superstructure is made from lightweight carbon fiber. The sleek exterior enhances overall performance, increasing range and improving fuel efficiency. In fact, the yard says its cruisers consume 70 percent less fuel than other yachts in their class.

The PB85 is pretty fast, too. ​​Powered by Volvo Penta engines, the yacht has a cruising speed of 23 knots, a top speed of 26 knots, and a range of 200 nautical miles at 21 knots. Twin MAN V-8s result in a top speed of 27.5 knots, a cruising speed of 25 knots, and a range of 650 nautical miles.

Palm Beach Motor Yachts enters superyacht realm and announces new flagship yacht PB85

Australian yacht builder Palm Beach Motor Yachts has announced its new 27.6-metre flagship known as Palm Beach 85 (PB85).

A statement from the yard said: "Entering the superyacht realm is a natural progression for Palm Beach Motor Yachts, the acclaimed builder established by ocean-racing champion and performance yacht builder, Mark Richards. The Palm Beach 85 (PB85) is designed to surpass all industry standards in luxury, onboard comfort and performance, elevating the brand's custom offerings to a new level."

A key focus of the PB85 is comfortable crew well-being with spacious living quarters as well as well-appointed living areas. The main deck is characterised by a convenient and sociable single-level living and entertaining space, including the saloon, which stretches from the forward helm station to the covered cockpit. Meanwhile, a generous aft deck offers exceptional views and easy access to the water.

Located amidships, the full-beam owner's stateroom boasts a king-size bed, ensuite bathroom, ample storage and large windows.

PB85 is constructed using Palm Beach's proprietary V-Warp Technology, a design and construction philosophy developed through Richards' experience as an ocean-racing champion and performance yacht designer.

With the aim of enhancing overall performance, the hull is fused directly to the carbon fibre structure, bulkheads, deck and superstructure of the vessel. Key features of the V-Warp Technology hull include a fine entry, a graceful curvature amidships and minimal deadrise at the transom, helping to reduce drag while adding buoyancy, stability and lift.

Speaking of the PB85, Richards said: "The Palm Beach 85 represents a dream achieved. When I was a young man working on the docks in Sydney, I would watch the yachts cruising through the harbour and knew that one day I'd do the same on my own boat. When the Palm Beach 85 splashes, she'll be the largest yacht we've built and will represent a new level of luxury, fuel efficiency and performance in the yachting industry.”

Promising would-be investors guaranteed daily returns and the doubling of their investments within six months, Juan Tacuri rose to become one of the top promoters for a New York-based cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme, according to federal prosecutors.

In exchange, the 46-year-old Palm Beach County man reaped millions of dollars, spending his ill-gotten earnings lavishly on luxury goods and real estate, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in charging with him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Tacuri's legal battle concluded this month with him pleading guilty to one count of the charge. The Greenacres resident is scheduled to be sentenced in September and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Forcount targeted Spanish-speaking investors for Ponzi scheme, prosecutors say

Cryptocurrency is an unregulated, digital-only currency that is not backed by a bank or a government and has no physical presence in the real world.

In court records, prosecutors described Tacuri as one of the most successful promoters of a Ponzi scheme known as Forcount, targeting primarily Spanish-speaking populations.

Forcount, later known as Weltsys, was a purported cryptocurrency mining and trading company that promised to earn its investors profits in exchange for the purchase of cryptocurrency-related investment products.

Prosecutors: Forcount deceived investors about engaging in cryptocurrency mining

The founders and promoters of Forcount falsely promised investors that profits from the company's trading and mining operations would result in guaranteed daily returns on the investments and doubling the investments within six months, prosecutors said.

In reality, the company was not engaging in cryptocurrency mining and instead was using the investments to pay other victims of the scheme, to further promote the scheme and to enrich its founder and the promoters.

Victims of the Ponzi scheme reportedly could see purported profits posted on an online portal, but were unable to withdraw any of them and ultimately lost all their money. Prosecutors said complaints go back as far as April 2018, and in 2021, Tacuri and others stop promoting the scheme and stopped responding to some investor complaints.

Tacuri is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 24 by U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres of the Southern District of New York, which includes New York City and neighboring counties.

As part of his plea, Tacuri agreed to forfeit $4 million in investor funds and certain real estate purchased using those that money.

UPDATE: Palm Beach Police say Colombians, Haitians detained after beached vessel found

The Palm Beach Police Department has released the nationalities of the four migrants who came ashore early Sunday via a boat that was found beached along North Ocean Boulevard.

In an update Monday, spokesman Capt. Will Rothrock said two women who were sent the hospital were Colombians. They were given notices to appear in court.

A man and a third woman were Haitians and had been taken to Miami "for expedited removal," he said.

Border Patrol removed the boat on Sunday, he said.

The Palm Beach Police Department says four people who came ashore on the island this morning have been detained.

In an alert issued about 7:45 a.m., the department said it wanted to "inform the community of a maritime-based immigration incident that occurred early this morning" near 1200 N. Ocean Blvd.

A beached vessel was reported and "we located and detained four subjects, but there may be several more subjects outstanding," police said.

Police spokesman Capt. Will Rothrock said three females and one male were taken into custody by the department and U.S. Border Patrol. Two of the females were taken to the hospital as a precaution, he said.

The 23-foot boat was "beached some time between midnight and 5 a.m.," Rothrock said, and was found unoccupied about 5:30 a.m.

"Our intelligence unit is working the ongoing investigation with Border Patrol and Homeland Security," Rothrock said.

The department is advising residents to call 561-838-5454 if they observe any suspicious persons or activity.
