FORWARD FACING

The transforming bow lounge offers extensive sunbathing with convivial seating ready to deploy for cocktails at sunset. Thanks to the carbon-fiber-pole-supported bimini, either of the two bow configurations can be enjoyed throughout the day with panoramic views.

UNDER THE SUN

The unexpected dinette completes the forepart of the main deck, offering a glass-enclosed table with diner-style seating. Extending overhead, the windshield bathes the elevated enclave in light, spotlighting it for breakfast. The dinette’s position between the galley, helm and side door is ideal for a crew mess, clear of the guest dining and lounging areas. For professional catering, the galley may be enclosed with full-height walls and a sliding door, maximizing peace and privacy.

A SANCTUM OF RELAXATION

Asymmetrical design elements, pastel colors and natural, tactile materials create a sense of tranquility seldom felt even at home. The private bathroom and walk-in closet ensure the utmost comfort for extended stays at sea, with a vanity desk and chaise longue to starboard and storage to port.

Our advanced toolkit

Azimut’s pioneering use of carbon fiber lamination goes beyond pure performance. The Carbon Tech Generation offers expanded volumes onboard, while maintaining excellent dynamic stability and perfect handling. Preserving the yacht’s low center of gravity, the carbon fiber was focused on the upper parts of the yacht, lightening the laminated components by up to 30% and reducing the natural roll momentum up to 15%.

Automatic interceptors by Humphree gives the vessel the lift it needs to get up on plane faster or to reach that optimum running trim. In this way the resistance of the hull is automatically optimised for every speed and load condition, this resulting in increased speed and lower fuel consumption. The Humphree system is all electric powered by 12-24 Volt DC. Thanks to the design of the Interceptor it only requires a small amount of power to move the blade up and down, even under high speed operation.

The custom-installed Raymarine electronics have been integrated to control and monitor every onboard system: from engines and alarms, to bilge and water discharge pumps, tank levels and engine room ventilation, right through to the sound system and the air conditioning units. The system can be accessed onboard from both the interior and exterior helm stations and, with the mobile app, remotely from a tablet or smartphone.

The system automatically transfers the diesel fuel from tank to tank, ensuring that the heel angle is kept close to zero in the case of variable load distribution and refuelling.

This yacht’s design and engineering meet the highest standards for production recreational vessels. Azimut Yachts issues a declaration of the premium materials, advanced technology and rigorous testing procedures.

Mancini’s counterpart on the 72 is the Turin-based interior designer Fabio Fantolino, who has inherited the Fly interiors away from noted architect Achille Salvagni. What Fantolino created in the yacht’s salon feels very much like an apartment in Rome, both elegant and functional. Details like leather satchel straps on the sofa set the boat apart, but in a functional way. The cushions slide to make the seating larger or more intimate. A portside galley amidships probably doesn’t have the food stowage you’d want for longer trips, but its central location makes it the hub of a chic onboard cocktail party.

One of my favorite features of this yacht’s design was a detail on the outer edge of the galley bar where lacquered, aquamarine slats call to mind the louvers common on La Dolce Vita –era runabouts. They share the same veneer as the alfresco dining table supports in the cockpit. That material, in fact, shows up across the boat, helping Fantolino create a vibe that is equal parts fun and sumptuous.

The U-shaped dining settee with a teak table to port is positioned opposite an amply sized wetbar, while other lounge seating options are both forward and aft. The hardtop overhead has glass sections to let in sunlight as well as electrically actuated shades for when the rays becomes too strong.

A plush flybridge might be something you’ve come to expect from Azimut, but a pleasant surprise on these boats is the improved work space. Historically, Azimut has not been known for functional details, but the 72 has a third steering station with joystick controls in the cockpit for easier docking, as well as a work area at the bow for crew members working the anchor. That foredeck, by the way, has a large social area with lounges and sunbeds.

Under the cockpit, the twin 1,400 hp MAN V12s were housed in an engine room that offered good access to all work points. Reported speed numbers are 31 knots at the top end, with a 26-knot cruise. Range at 26 knots is 310 nautical miles, enough to make it from New York City to Nantucket, or Miami to Nassau without refueling.

With every inch of space utilised whilst ensuring light open spaces throughout each deck, the new Y72 houses design features comparable to larger Y Class yachts. Flexibility is key on board, with adaptable fixtures and fittings to suit you – her sociable layout within the main saloon combines a bar area and open plan galley, complemented by a state-of-the-art Naim audio system. Open up to the world with glass sliding doors between the main saloon and cockpit areas with an integrated opening window aft of the galley. Enjoy water sports with ease with her large transom featuring a foldaway swim ladder and shower. Below deck, eight guests are comfortably accommodated across four cabins, each with their own accessible ensuite. Princess Yachts Y72 Review: Subtle Details And Setting Trends

"High Standards Throughout." It's the direction that Princess team and the Olesinski naval architectural design firm dedicated themselves to fulfilling, not just in theory, but truly creating spaces on board where these standards are tangible. In a highly competitive market for 72-foot flybridge yachts, the Princess Y72 elevates itself through both glaring differences and subtle details that combine for palatial accommodations at sea. Versatile as she is beautiful, the Y72 can be both formal entertaining yacht and comfortable cruiser, capable of long-distance luxury travel.

Princess Yachts will debut the Y72 to North America at the 2021 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show and if you weren't able to travel to the Cannes Yachting Festival, this will be the first time any of us across the pond have seen the new model. The international yachting world is already a buzz as the Y72 joins an award-winning stable of Y-class models, situated perfectly in the range with the Y78 and Y85 .

Perhaps the most evident difference the Princess Y72 accomplishes is in its performance. Standard power for the Y72 features twin MAN V12 1,650mhp engines that produce a stable cruise of 30 knots and a top speed of 34 knots. In comparison, the 72 Fly from Azimut Yachts is also equipped with MAN V12 engines, but only 1,400mhp, resulting in slightly lower speeds. The 720 from Ferretti Yachts features MAN V8 1200mhp engines standard, but do have an optional MAN V12 1,400mhp's available. The closest model built by Sunseeker Yachts is the 76 Flybridge which only reaches 1,550mhp as an option. Clearly, Princess aimed to lead this category when it came to speed and power on the Y72, creating a sizable advantage.

And, don't forget the optional extended range fuel tank which gives the Y72 a total fuel capacity of 1,400 gallons.

The Y72 exterior lines and accents have noticeably evolved in this new model, signaling a slight variation in aesthetics for the full model range to come. The windows below deck are streamlined with a curve in the bottom, a solution which adds to the exterior look while also meeting the need for natural light below deck. The striking deep-v at the bow is the traditional Princess hull shape, honed to perfection after thousands of boats constructed. The same slope can be found in the curvature of the flybridge hardtop, which also boasts a lighter grey color to accent the lines.

It doesn't go unnoticed either that you can see clear through the salon and the lower deck thanks to the abundance of large windows.

Beginning aft, the hydraulic swim platform is wide and features a walkway between the transom and the platform. If you've ever tried to put on scuba fins while the swim platform is down, having this area, plus the seat by the storage locker, is a welcome addition. A decent sized tender can also be carried when underway. Teak staircases port and starboard, with an extending passarelle on the portside, lead to the beautiful aft deck.

The cockpit on the Y72 (below) is spacious and fun, shaded from the flybridge for comfort, and ample seating for afternoon cocktails. Small details in this space accent the ambiance through recessed LED lighting, twin tone headliner with stainless steel trim accents, a hidden aft docking station with joystick, and so much more. The pedastal table unfolds making dining al fresco a possibility and the optional NAIM audio system with JL Audio speakers supply concert-like sound.

The foredeck seating area (below) features multiple seating and sunbathing options. The sunpad can lay flat or raise the backrests to create additional seating that faces the other sofa. Stainless steel cup holders, Fusion waterproof speakers, additional storage, and teak decking complete the bow, which when cruising with the gyro stabilizers on, can be an exceptional place to enjoy the cruise.

The side decks connecting the bow and aft deck are wide and feature specially-formed stainless steel handrails often found on superyachts. Small details like this add to the feeling of luxury and quality, high standards that Princess aims to keep on every part of the boat.

As you ascend the staircase to the flybridge (below), the teak steps are illuminated at night and face you from the cockpit, making maneuvering around the boat safe and easy. The flybridge is exquisite with many noticeable details that create a unique experience. Beginning starboard side and aft, is a large sunpad that can fit multiple people for conversing or getting a tan. The teak flybridge railing is a nice touch, as is the glass panels that allow the sunbathers a view out of the back of the boat.

Forward of the aft flybridge sunpad is a U-shaped couch with a pedastal table that can easily be minimized or extended for dining with multiple guests. Across from this outdoor dining area is a contemporary-looking wetbar that consists of a BBQ, sink, drawer refrigeration, storage, and trash. The hardtop above offers an option to have electrically-operated louvered sections that tilt with the push of a button. Forward on the flybridge is a wonderful helm space that any owner/operator would find enjoyable to use. Seating surrounding the upper helm allows guests to enjoy the ride with the captain while the boat is underway.

As with most yachts of this caliber, the Y72 features an aft galley with an opening window that helps to integrate the cockpit to the main deck interior when the cockpit doors are open. It also makes serving guests from the galley quite easy.

Stepping inside the Y72, the result of incorporating the extra-large glass windows is visible in the amount of natural light, but also the nearly unobstructed views. The inside dining area is farthest aft and across from the galley which is well-equipped to prepare meals for all of your guests. Additional chairs, bar stools, a sofa, cocktail table, and hidden flat screen television create a wonderful living room space that is just aft of the interior helm.

Princess has a variety of wood and fabric selections for the Y72 that will appeal to all tastes and desires. A silver oak, in either a satin finish or a gloss finished is an upgraded option, as is the walnut interior. The galley worktops and bar are quartz, but come in a variety of color choices including black anubis, prganic white, oyster, clamshell, and others.

Four beautifully decorated and spacious staterooms are found below deck. As you head down the companionway, large storage spaces and washer/dryer are found by opening cabinets. The VIP suite is forward and features lots of light, portholes for fresh air, a large flatscreen television, lots of closet and drawer space, as well as a queen-sized berth. The VIP en suite bathroom has a large walk-in shower and storage tucked away in multiple areas.

Adjacent to the VIP suite is the guest cabin that features twin beds that can be electrically-controlled to join together into a queen. 

A private staircase that is separate from the guest stairs is found portside and forward in the salon. This leads to the master suite which is located midship and is completely incredibly roomy. From the king-sized berth, to the large windows, the entertainment system, the storage, and the additional reading area, you may never want to leave your private oasis below deck.

The full-beam master cabin is placed midship, has panoramic side windows, is furnished with a walk-in closet, a cabinet with a drawer, a sofa, and a fridge. Moreover, the head has two sinks and a shower with a seat.

At the bow, the very bright VIP cabin has an en-suite head with a shower, while the two central cabins have two single berths each.

Finally, the aft crew cabin consists of two separate single berths and can be equipped with a galley.

The Design Story behind the Princess S72

The 72-foot motor yacht takes its inspiration from the Y72 but follows the distinct personality seen on Princess’ sporty S Class range: powerful and precise – yet timelessly elegant and sophisticated, blending iconic design, exceptional engineering and unrivalled craftsmanship. “The Princess design team wanted to guarantee that there was no compromise in the new variant due to the fact that it’s built on the same platform as the Y72. In contrast to the Y class where it focuses on big interior, air-conditioned volume and a huge flybridge deck, the S class sees a little bit of reduced space up on the flybridge which gives it a sportier look and feel” says Andy Lawrence, Design Director at Princess Yachts. “We’ve also moved the patio door forwards about a metre and a half, and what that does is reduces the size of the interior upper accommodation volume and gives that space back to the cockpit deck area.”

Designing a new yacht is a lengthy process, with the concept phase alone taking three to four months on average. The first phase purely focuses on the philosophies behind the exterior of the new product. The process involves acquiring a 2D general arrangement from naval architects Olesinski, which is then refined by the Princess Design Studio with a key focus on styling. The team then work around ensuring all of the engineering works adequately, before moving onto creating a 3D model from the 2D design. This is where an emphasis on the style is considered, with concentration on how each element will flow into another, and how the proportions are looking.

Killian Scott, Lead Visualisation Designer at Princess Yachts, describes the vision for the S72 to be focused on proportion, visual weight, and maximising interior space.

“We have used automotive language throughout the design process as a main influence so that everything feels connected and streamlined.”

Following the initial phases, a range of images are rendered to be reviewed by Antony Sheriff, Executive Chairman and CEO of Princess Yachts. This is the stage at which any design alterations and improvements are highlighted and implemented moving forwards.

“The final CGIs of a new boat are always how the concept team want it to look as they are our final deliverable,” explains Scott, “overall, I think the concept of the S72 and the finished boat look identical. I think the whole design team have done really well.”

The design of the S72 is focused on ensuring people feel closer to the water via the expansive cockpit space and bathing platform, with easy access down into the water. Andy Lawrence describes the layout of the boat to be crafted around the aim to get people outside and make sure everyone is together. “Even when you are inside you should feel like you are connected to the cockpit area so no one is isolated. At the back of the boat, we have a huge sun pad, big U-shaped seating with configurable seat modules within the cockpit so it’s very versatile. We have a window that opens up and a patio door that folds right back so you can talk across the galley bar to your guests. Inside the boat there are huge windows, very few mullions and a big sliding roof getting lots and lots of lighting into the boat.”

Once the final design process has been approved, and plans are finalised, the build stage begins at Princess’ major mould workshop at their main Coypool feeder site. Coypool houses all the components which are built and stored before being transported to Princess’ five other manufacturing sites around Plymouth. This unique site gives Princess the ability to have further control over the design and quality of their boats and be more bespoke to their customers; this sets Princess Yachts apart from other manufacturers in the industry.

Once the hull and canopy are moulded, each slot of the S72 is transported to Newport Street where interior fit out begins and the build process continues. Members of the team working on the Y72 line are brought over to the S72, transferring their basic knowledge of the Y and adapting it to the S variant, thus ensuring a smoother build process. After years of meticulous design and a thorough build, slot one of S72 progressed with few complications and hit the water at the beginning of 2023 in preparation for her launch.

The World Premiere of the S72 took place at boot Düsseldorf where it became one of the stars of the show through its dramatic unveiling. “The reception of the S72 has been fantastic” says Antony Sheriff, “it was designed to be a boat that had the beauty and the emotion of the first sketches. It’s not really until you see the boat finished with all the details, that you get the idea of the stunning sculptural beauty that she has. We’re very proud of our craftsmanship and we’re proud of the team of 3,200 people in Plymouth to see the boat completely finished with all the details. The first reaction was, ‘she looks just like that first sketch’ and so we’re really pleased with that.”

“We are absolutely delighted with the success of the S72” reveals Andy Lawrence. “It has been a product that we have had a lot of feedback on, a lot of people are really crying out for this boat since the departure of the original S72 some years ago which was actually the product which created the S class method for Princess. There has been a real gap in the market that we are filling with this boat and we are very excited about it.”

Andy sums up the S class as a slightly more emotional purchase compared to the other classes in the Princess range, with major consideration on the style and feel of the boat.

“It’s about being close to the water. The connectivity with the saloon, the galley, the cockpit and the platform space create a big family environment. On the S72, she offers the MAN 1800 engines so that gets her up to 34 to 36 knots really quite comfortably, and ultimately it’s about getting out there to the Bahamas before anybody else.”

SIMPLICITY is a classic flush deck motor yacht that combines pilothouse, galley, day head, salon and aft deck all on the same level.  The original Viking design separated the galley from the main salon; the aft bulkhead has been removed and it is now an open, fully modern space will all new stainless galley appliances.  All cabinetry has been replaced and upgraded.  The lower deck includes four staterooms: owner’s stateroom is aft with its own stairway and is nothing short of grand.   Entering SERENITY from either of the two pilothouse doors, the upgraded electronics package, woodwork and fabrics in the pilothouse is immediately evident. Proceeding aft, the salon / galley space is stunning in a moderate contemporary style with a nice blend of wood and fabrics. The color scheme is neutral, the impression is one of elegant and refined good taste. What was originally a constricted space with a narrow galley is now wide open.  The aft deck is furnished with high quality exterior furniture, it may be the most inviting and popular space on the yacht.  From the aft deck the cockpit is a few steps down. This space serves as a beach club with excellent access the water.   The fly bridge is accessed via a stairway from the salon. Originally the access was up a ladder which was common on these yachts in the 90s. The ladder was removed and a stairway was installed. Seating is plentiful around a built-in settee and table. With the tender launched, lounge chairs are easily positioned in that space. The upper command station has three Captain's chairs, new electronics and 360 degree visibility for easy operations. Space for a tender is aft on the bridge deck and launching with the davit is straight-forward.
