Sailing on a catamaran in the british virgin islands.
Sailing on a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands offers a remarkable experience that allows you to explore the captivating beauty of this Caribbean gem. The British Virgin Islands comprise over 60 islands and islets, each offering its own unique charm and picturesque beaches. With a catamaran, you can effortlessly navigate the clear turquoise waters, discover secluded coves, and soak in the laid-back island vibes.
One of the many reasons to visit the BVI are the many beautiful beaches on the various islands. Soft white sand, turquoise water and stunning hilly landscapes make for a fun and relaxing atmosphere you wouldn't want to miss. Luckily, a catamaran rental in the BVI allows you to do so. As catamarans come with a shallow draft, you can easily sail close to the shore without having to worry about the safety of your passengers.
Another great thing about a catamaran hire in the BVI is the fact that catamarans are standing on two hulls. While you might not necessarily admire the construction itself, you will be pleased with it when sailing. A catamaran will feel less shaky than other types of boats and you get more space on board as well as on deck.
You enjoy the feeling of freedom when sailing across the water and in total harmony with the wind? But sometimes you long for a little bit more comfort when doing so? A catamaran rental in the British Virgin Islands is giving you the best of both worlds. As they are equipped with both a sail and an engine you get to choose how you want to drive the yacht and get to be quite flexible depending on the weather conditions.
One of the downsides of a catamaran rental in the British Virgin Islands is the fact that catamarans are quite big and not very easy to navigate in tight spaces. So you might have some issues at the marinas. Also, as catamarans are generally bigger than other boats, you might have to pay extra for a mooring spot.
Another thing to keep in mind when renting a catamaran in the BVI is that they are quite light boats. While you might think that’s a good thing, it really depends. If you plan on having an adrenaline packed boat holiday a catamaran is probably not the right choice for you.
The British Virgin Islands enjoy a warm and tropical climate most of the time, making them a great destination for sailing. However, the peak season for sailing in the British Virgin Islands is from December to April. During this period, the weather is generally dry, with pleasant temperatures ranging from mid-20s to high 20s Celsius. The trade winds are consistent, creating excellent sailing conditions and providing relief from the tropical heat. From June to November it’s hurricane season on the island,so sailing here during this period in time should definitely be avoided.
Catamaran charter prices in the British Virgin Islands vary depending on the size, age, and amenities of the catamaran. Generally, prices range from around 5.400 EUR to 94.000 EUR per week. The British Virgin Islands are certainly no budget-friendly destination, but if you plan a fun vacation with friends you can easily split the cost of a catamaran and enjoy a much more affordable vacation here.
It's essential to consider your budget and preferences when selecting a catamaran charter in the BVI , ensuring you have the desired level of comfort and services for an unforgettable sailing experience, as well as using the budget you have put aside for your trip. After all, you wouldn’t want to return home completely broke.
There are also plenty of luxury catamarans available to rent in the British Virgin Islands , serving the needs and personal preferences for those who live more affluent lives and are ready to spoil themselves.

The BVI and USVI are two distinct archipelagos . So, choosing the perfect yacht charter itinerary can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, whichever place you choose adventure and relaxation await every type of traveler.
Here are some ideas on how to seamlessly journey from these two Caribbean regions:
Note that the key to planning your dream itinerary is flexibility.
1. how many people can a catamaran charter accommodate.
It depends. Luxury private yachts come in different sizes . They can accommodate anywhere from 2 to 12 guests comfortably.
Imagine cozy trips for couples on small boats or spacious vacations for friends or families on bigger catamarans.
Tip: Consider your group size and desired level of privacy when choosing the perfect size.
Your island-hopping dreams have no limits. BVI catamarans typically have a cruising speed of 8-10 knots. Thus, you can comfortably explore nearby islands like Jost Van Dyke or Norman Island within a day.
For longer journeys, from BVI to USVI or vice versa, plan for a multi-day charter itinerary. Remember, fuel range and weather conditions also play a role in determining your itinerary.
While undeniably luxurious, BVI catamaran charters offer a range of budget options. Choosing smaller boats, traveling during nonpeak seasons, and planning shorter trips can also bring down the cost.
Don’t hesitate to compare prices and find the option that fits your budget without compromising on the experience.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this. The important thing is to consider your priorities.
A 40 to 50-foot catamaran offers excellent maneuverability for exploring hidden coves. It also provides a cozy atmosphere for smaller groups.
Larger vessels, 50ft and above , boast expansive decks and luxurious amenities. Plus, there is more onboard space for bigger groups or those seeking ultimate comfort.
Ultimately, choose a size that balances your desired space, budget, and sailing goals.
Choosing the perfect yacht is never easy. But, with proper guidance from an expert yacht charter broker, planning a vacation and choosing the right boat charter should go smoothly:
These are just a few questions to answer when planning for your vacation. Once you have a clearer picture, browse reputable charter companies, compare fleets, and ask questions. They’ll help you find the ideal vessel and curate an unforgettable itinerary.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean, just east of Puerto Rico. The gorgeous archipelago is made up of around 60 islands, cays and islets, with the four main islands being Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. A catamaran rental is one of the best ways to get to know the BVI because it allows you to island hop and discover some of the best beaches in the world. Moreover, a catamaran has a multi-hull system that is open and airy, making it great for large groups or people that tend to get seasick. You will experience what is known as “flat sailing” for a comfortable and safe journey. Whether you are more interested in a relaxing holiday filled with unwinding and sunbathing or an action-packed adventure with snorkelling and sailing, the BVI have it all.
Various factors can influence the overall price of a catamaran charter in the BVI such as the size, the model, the duration of the trip and the seasonality. For example, the average price of a catamaran rental in the BVI for 12 people is around €9,160 per week during the high season and €6,410 per week during the low season.
The BVI have a tropical climate, making it a warm place all year round. This being said, there are two different seasons: the dry and wet seasons. The dry season, from January to June, is slightly cooler than the wet season but is much more desirable for a catamaran rental. This is because the wet season, between June and November, has higher levels of precipitation and chances of hurricanes.
Overall, the best time to visit the British Virgin Islands will depend on your personal preferences and what you hope to do during your trip. If you want to avoid the crowds and the hottest temperatures, you may want to visit during the shoulder seasons (April-May and November-December). However, even during the peak season, you can always escape the crowds with your catamaran and set sail into the waters.
As you browse through all the available catamarans on Nautal, you will find that many come with the option to hire a skipper. If you desire a luxurious and comfortable boating holiday, then we highly suggest that you choose to have a skipper on board with you. For example, a professional skipper will be able to handle all the sailing, docking and anchoring of the catamaran. This means that you won’t need to worry about having any nautical experience or knowledge and still have a great boating holiday. Moreover, a skipper will be familiar with the islands and the Caribbean Sea around the BVI, so they will be sure to show you the very best spots. Finally, the skipper can ensure that you have a safe and comfortable journey, making sure to prioritise your wishes, making for a totally customised and unique experience.
As soon as you set sail on your catamaran charter in the BVI, you will realise that the world is your oyster as you discover the beauty of the island group. As you can imagine, with over 60 islands to choose from, there is so much to see and do on your catamaran rental in the British Virgin Islands. In fact, deciding what to do and where to go can become quite a daunting task. For this reason, we have compiled a list of our favourite things to do in the BVI.
This is the largest island within the archipelago, also home to the capital city, Road Town. One of the most popular beaches that you can visit here is Smuggler’s Cove. This little slice of paradise has crystal clear waters and is a great place to sit back and soak up the Caribbean sun. Another popular beach is Cane Garden Bay. In contrast to the relaxing atmosphere of Smuggler’s Cove, this beach has a lively vibe thanks to its variety of bars and restaurants. If you are travelling with a larger group, we suggest you visit at least one of these beaches as they have plenty of space to enjoy!
Home to the famous Baths, Virgin Gorda is another must-see in the BVI. The Baths are a series of pools and grottoes formed by huge granite boulders that are over 70 million years old. These aquamarine pools sure are a sight for sore eyes. The island also has a mountainous landscape on the north side, making it a great place for hikers. We suggest hiking during the evening so you can see the beautiful sunset and a wonderful panoramic view of the island.
This island is a flat coral island known for its impressive biodiversity. If you are a fan of snorkelling, then Anegada needs to be on your list of visits! One of the most popular destinations to snorkel around the island is the Horseshoe Reef which extends over 63 kilometres of different corals. Here, you will be able to see a kaleidoscope of colours reflected in the corals, sponges and fish species! You can also visit the Flamingo Pond to witness the magnificent native flamingo population.
This island is the smallest of the four main BVI. However, don’t let its size fool you, as there is still so much to discover on Jost Van Dyke! If you are looking to unwind on your holiday, then take your catamaran rental here and navigate around some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With the soft silky sands and long hours of sunshine, you can’t go wrong here. One of the most popular beaches is White Bay Beach thanks to its tranquil waters. Alternatively, you can visit other beaches such as Sapphire Beach, Cinnamon Bay and Bubbly Pool.

We just returned from our bare boat charter with Conch Charters. We spent 3 weeks sailing around the USVI & the BVI. It was an amazing trip !! This was our 3rd time chartering with Conch. The first 2 times we chartered a monohull. This time we chartered a catamaran. The people who work at Conch are one of the main reasons that we continue to charter with Conch. Every single person that we have come in contact with is not superbly qualified but also super nice and very easy to work with. The boats are always well maintained and in great condition. From the bed linens to the generator, everything is always perfect. We are already planning our bare boat charter for next year - of course with Conch Charters !!!!
As we embark on our second charter with Conch (to whom we have referred everyone that wanted to go to the BVI that we know) we just wanted to thank all of you (and especially Hazelle) for all of your kindness, help, patience and information. Without doubt, your customer service ethic is the best we have seen anywhere. We have all worked for The Walt Disney Company in our lives so we know good customer service.... Thank you again. We are so excited to be seeing Conch Charters and the BVI again.
