H i, we are Robert and Katerina Svoboda and we want to take you sailing. Let us tell you a little about ourselves before you decide to sail of the edge of the world with us.On one dark San Diego night many tides ago in a cliché drinking establishment Robert and Katerina met and started to fascinate each other. We fell in love shortly after and started our lustful affair with sailing. We have been sailing with aggressive passion for the past 14 years. Our original idea is to circumnavigate one day. After our two children grow up and support us. Just kidding. Plenty of time for that later, now we are so focused on providing for our children and elaborating on our pleasurable business.  The funny thing is… That we sat out to see the world and the world came to us. We marvel at travelers from all over the USA, Canada, China, Mexico, Arabia, Europe and Japan, all of them chasing the sunset just like us.

We have been professionally sailing people into the sunset, Catalina and Mexico for the past 10 years. We both are United State Coast Guard licensed 50-gross ton captains and have extensive experience in the southern Californian waters stretching from the northern Channel Island to the Los Coronado Islands (Mexico). Robert is 40 and is in great physical shape and capable of single handing vessel under high wind conditions. He is also extremely capable swimmer/diver. He has 15 years of intensive sailing experience. Katerina is 39, extremely smart and sensible and the best navigator a husband can have. Not to mention her European heritage making her extremely experimental in the galley and that’s one way into a man’s heart.

Christened in 1934

The Cloudia is a beautifully restored, rare example of a classic Norwegian double ended ketch. Inspired by the original designs of famed naval architect Colin Archer (1832-1921), from Larvik, Norway, the Cloudia is a Listerskøyte. The top-sail ketch is notable for durability and safety. Archer’s shipyard designed and constructed the famed  Fram,  which participated in a number of expeditions to the North Pole and later supported Roald Amundsen’s historic first expedition to the South Pole.

Archer’s designs became popular for commercial use and in the pleasure sailing market during the 20th Century, and remain so to this day. 

Welcome to SailCloudia

The Cloudia is rigged as a topsail ketch in the British or American style, which means there are 2 two-piece masts which allow the Cloudia to carry more sail than a traditional Norwegian rig with shorter single masts. The Cloudia’s main mast is 85 feet high including the top-jack.

Many different woods were used to craft the ship, including Norwegian white oak, sapele hardwood, Douglas fir, Alaskan yellow cedar, and Ipe Brazilian hardwood. 

The pilot house is fully equipped with modern maritime electronics, including state of the art radar and navigation systems.

Small Group San Diego Sunset Sailing Excursion

This three-hour San Diego sunset sail tour brings lovers of the sea out on a Catalina-style sailboat to watch the last of the sun rays fall behind the ocean. The idea of this excursion is to create an intimate feeling, only allowing six guests on board.

We had the best time celebrating my husband's 30th birthday on Alana! They made the planning process so easy and everything went great the day of. We had a group of 16 and everyone loved the experience. We did a 5:30-7:30 time slot and brought pizzas on the boat too. It was definitely the highlight of our trip to San Diego!

Book a sunset tour!!! Literally did not want to leave this was the best night ever. Such fun vibes for a chill sunset or if you want to go crazy and have a large group. The drinks were immaculate and yummy. The bartender and crew were super friendly and enjoyable and I mean just look at it. I think the boat speaks for itself. Would absolutely go again.

My friend rented the boat for his 40th birthday. It was a great experience, the boat is comfortable with plenty of seating . They allowed us to bring on pizza and cake to eat. They made great drinks. If you are looking for an option for a party or day out on the water then I would highly recommend Alana.

We had the best day out on the bay with Alana! We booked a 4 hour charter for my dad's 70th birthday and had about 20 family and friends on board. It was such a wonderful experience that our family will cherish as a special memory. Carly was great to work with - communication was friendly and clear. The crew on board was so awesome - friendly, patient, just making sure we had a great time. We were allowed to bring food and cupcakes on board and ordered drinks from the bar, which was great! Cannot recommend enough. very reasonably priced too for what you get!
