The yachting industry, including the charter experts at Burgess, is warming up for the summer charter season ahead by attending the world’s leading charter show, the MYBA Charter Show.

Taking place in the Italian maritime city of Genoa at the end of April, the show, which is now in its 34 year, marks a significant milestone for MYBA as the yachting association celebrates its 40 anniversary this year. To mark the occasion the renowned, trade-only event, returns to Genoa after five years in Barcelona.

What is the MYBA Charter Show?

The MYBA Charter Show is an annual show that brings together some of the finest superyachts available to charter in the Mediterranean. One of the oldest shows on the yachting circuit, the trade-only event is well attended exclusively by yachting industry professionals who take the opportunity to connect and collaborate with the wider charter community, and to familiarise themselves with some of the leading charter yachts afloat and available for the coming season. 

Armed with first-hand knowledge, they can then provide their potential charterers with information on the designs, layouts, facilities, amenities, and especially the crew aboard the yachts available, allowing them to provide a superior service to their clients when it comes to choosing the finest yachts for an unforgettable charter. 

What dates are the MYBA Charter Show?

Held over four days from the 22 – 25 April, the MYBA Charter Show is one of the most important yachting events for superyacht charter brokers, who come from all over the world to gather vital information for the season ahead.  

Where can I get tickets for MYBA Charter Show?

The MYBA Charter Show is an industry only event connecting charter brokers and other professionals from the yachting industry with the yachts available for charter. If you are interested in any of the yachts in the show then your Burgess charter broker will be able to tour the yacht on your behalf, meet the captain and crew and discuss any specific requests.  

Where is the MYBA Charter Show?

The 2024 MYBA Charter Show is held in the Marina Molo Vecchio in Genoa. This hilly Italian port on Italy’s Ligurian coast has been known for its seafaring prowess since medieval times when it was one of the richest cities in the world. Its antiquity and historical wealth can still be seen in the cobblestone streets and many Palazzos built within the city gates, but despite still being one of Italy’s primary commercial ports. 

Genoa has also spent the latter part of the 21 century as a touristic gateway to the colourful seaside villages of Cinque Terre and glamorous Portofino. And with the opening of new luxury hotels like Palazzo Durazzo, and a cultural and gastronomic scene that deserves recognition, the city is once again thriving and attracting visitors in its own right.  

Who is attending?

Industry professionals ranging from charter brokers and other industry players from around the world attend the MYBA Charter Show to connect and view the yachts on display. Captains and crew from the yachts in the show will of course also be in attendance, showcasing their skills and talents, including the annual Superyacht Chefs’ Competition (including a table scaping competition between the interior crews on board, and the All Hands On Deck Competition.  

What type of yachts will be attending the MYBA Charter Show?

The yachts on show in the Marina Molo Vecchio range from 20m (65ft) to 100m (330ft) in length and are a superb cross-section of different types, with sailing yachts and fast performance yachts in evidence as well as large motor yachts and even mega yachts. With their pools, watertoys, panoramic views and impressive dining options, the selection of superyachts represent the pinnacle of yachting elegance this summer. As always, Burgess has a wide selection of its own yachts on display, including some of the largest in the show – the 85.6m (280.9ft) AQUILA and the 73.6m (241.4ft) NAIA.

What else can I do near the MYBA Charter Show?

For those attending the show or planning a yacht charter in the area, Genoa has plenty to offer away from the show and the Marina Molo Vecchio. Aside from being the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and Pesto, the city that was once called “La Superba” (the Superb) is littered with centuries-old palaces, grandiose art galleries and elegant baroque churches, all legacies of its former wealth. Its old-world charm and fascinating history make it the perfect destination for those in search of an authentic Italian city break.  

Visit the Piazza De Ferrari

Located in the heart of Genoa, just a short walk from the historic centre and the Old Port, Genoa’s main piazza is where locals and visitors converge around the fountain of an evening. Several historical palaces and art nouveau buildings sit side by side, including the Palazzo Ducale, which was once the Palace of the Doge of Genoa (the Doge was the Head of State of what was previously the Republic of Genoa, before Napoleon incorporated Genoa into the Ligurian Republic in 1797). Other landmarks include the Teatro Carlo Felice – the neoclassical opera house of Genoa where you can watch opera, ballet, and orchestral performances year-round.  

Explore the Royal Palace Museum

One of Italy’s most historic palaces, the Baroque style Royal Palace Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to a vast collection of paintings, frescoes, sculptures and stuccowork, the museum site includes the historic residence and the gallery. Much of the original furniture and decoration remains from the 17 and 18 centuries when it housed the Genoese aristocracy.  

Revel in the beauty of the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo

Marvel at the beautiful architecture of Genoa’s Cattedrale di San Lorenzo. Constructed in 1421, the baroque façade and stuccoed interior has been modified and added to over the years, culminating in the 18-century zebra-striped Gothic-Romanesque look that it has today. Inside, various holy relics, including a glass vessel once thought to be the Holy Grail, are preserved in the Museo del Tesoro.

Located on Piazza Caricamento, the Palazzo San Giorgio was built in 1260, but it wasn’t until its resident was forced into exile that it became a jail in which the explorer Marco Polo spent some time behind bars. In the 15 century this palace turned prison also became the world’s first bank – a bank at which Christopher Columbus held an account. His house, which was faithfully reconstructed in the 18 century, lies just beyond in the streets past the cathedral.

It has been announced this week that the 34th edition of the MYBA Charter Show in 2024 will take place at the Marina Molo Vecchio in Genoa . This signals a change after five years of successful events held in Barcelona .

Ignacio Erroz, CEO of Marina Port Vell Barcelona will be sorry to see the event move on, but had this to say, “The success achieved during the years that the show was held in Barcelona reinforced our city’s position as one of the main destinations for superyachts, opening a wide range of opportunities for the industry, boosting the local economy and providing added value to Barcelona.”

There is only an agreement in place for the show to relocate to Genoa for 1 year, with the MYBA Board due to clarify the future location of the show soon. The event brings together a curated fleet of superyachts and a highly qualified audience and paves the way to a successful charter season.

Genoa is a port city and the capital of northwest Italy’s Liguria region with a long history in maritime trade over many centuries. We look forward to visiting next year and bringing you all the highlights from the show.

2024 is set to see the 34th MYBA Charter Show in Marina Molo Vecchio, Genoa, held between 22nd - 25th April.

Marking the beginning of the Mediterranean charter season, the MYBA Yacht Show in Genoa is a true celebration of yachting. Marina Molo Vecchio has hosted sixteen shows in the past and, once again, MYBA are working closely with the Pesto Sea Group to ensure the success of the event as a productive, engaging and memorable experience. A new set up is being explored by the Show Team; a unique entertainment programme and every possibility of reducing its carbon footprint.

An industry-only event, the MYBA Charter Show sees a breath-taking fleet of superyachts, brokerage firms and yacht crews as it showcases industry-leading designs and exhibitors. Curated by the MYBA, the show represents the association’s commitment to encouraging and upholding high standards across all spheres of the superyacht industry.

A staple trade event for the European yachting industry, the MYBA Charter Show returns for another edition packed with some of the most indulgent charter yachts.

Annually attracting large crowds, the MYBA Charter Show is a key opportunity for brokers and crew alike to get a real feel for some of the latest charter yachts on the market, and, of course, get to know the premium lifestyle attached to the world of luxury charter yachts .

Hosted in the stunning Port Vell, the industry-only event has been running for more than 30 years and has proved itself a valuable asset as both a training tool for professionals and as an inspirational event for future developments.

Organized by MYBA, the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association, this year's event promises a multitude of opportunities to network with other brokerage firms and Captains, as well as a busy program of social events and competitions.

The highly-anticipated and much-loved Chef’s Competition will be making its return to the show, putting superyacht chefs up against each other to create the most eloquent dishes inspired by preset themes.

Other crew members will also have their opportunity to shine with a special Tabletop competition for interior crews and deck teams will try and prove how entertaining they can be.
