SeaDream Yacht Club adds “Raw Food” menu and Glatt-Kosher charters

Raw Food. It’s become a very popular and trendy lifestyle choice. Until now, the only way a raw food proponent could cruise and find something to eat that was uncooked was to be a twice daily fixture at the Lido Buffet salad bar. Not any longer. SeaDream Yacht Club has introduced their new “Raw Food” menu; the first cruise line to offer this option to their guests. But what exactly is “raw food” if not just salad bar fare?

SeaDream Yacht Club Corporate Chef Sudesh Kishore at work

Aboard the twin mega-yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II, gourmet raw food is offered in addition to the regular menu. Aside from preparing meals using foods that are either totally raw or lightly heated, ingredients used aboard the SeaDream ships for their raw food menu are also organic and vegan. No fish, meat, eggs or dairy.

Bringing this new culinary experience onboard the yachts was the brainchild of SeaDream’s Norwegian owners, Linn and Atle Brynestad. Having stayed at the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach and personally experiencing the health benefits by maintaining a raw diet, the Byrnestads were determined to figure out a way to introduce raw food to their ships’ menus.

The Brynestads recruited the Institute’s Executive Chef, Renate Waller, to lend her expertise to the SeaDreams’s galley. Chef  Renate, also know as a “Raw Food Chef,” worked with SeaDream’s Corporate Chef, Sudesh Kishore to create gourmet raw food dishes that would entice even the most skeptic of foodies. Says Hippocrates Institute Chef Renate, “Switching to a high percentage of raw, living plant based foods, enables people to reclaim feeling great and being well.

In case you aren’t familiar with the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, it was founded over fifty years ago by Ann Wigmore , a holistic health practitioner, nutritionist, whole foods advocate, health educator, author and a doctor of Divinity. She followed the Hippocrates philosophy which believes that a vegan, enzyme-rich diet of sprout and vegetable juices, wheatgrass, salads, nuts, seeds and fruit are key components to optimum health.

SeaDream, known for the exceptional cuisine and dining experiences, remains committed maintaining their high culinary standards and food diversity. “The raw food menu is an added option. If you come aboard to enjoy filet mignon and double chocolate mousse, by all means it’s on the menu” said Kishore. He added “Nobody else at sea is offering this style of raw cuisine, and because we serve at most 112 guests, we can. One might assume raw food is boring or bland, but guests who chose to try it are in for a tasty surprise.”

Chef Kishore revealed a few of the new raw food menu creations which include beverages such as Watercress Tang; a liquid mélange of watercress, Anjou pear, lime and pineapple; the Blood Apple Blaster; a blend of apple, ginger, red beet, lime juice and agave. For a salad that’s certainly not ho-hum there the slightly spicy, Asian style Cashew Curry salad. The Vegetable Lasagna uses pasta-like noodles made from spinach leaves and coconut meat and layered between a spicy cauliflower mash and topped with a sun-dried tomato marinara.

The raw food concept continues into dessert. The Cashew Lemon Cheesecake has a crust made from almonds and dates. The “cheesecake” filling’s main ingredients are cashews, lemon juice, almond milk and coconut butter. There are also sugar-free desserts, too.

Glatt-Kosher is now available on charter sailings. For those who adhere to a Glatt-Kosher diet and have been unable to find a cruise line to accommodate their needs, they’ll be happy to learn that SeaDream has partnered with Jon Greenseid, a nationally recognized kosher consultant. Available only on private charters, meals are prepared under strict rabbinical supervision. Chef Kishore has created a kosher menu that offers both traditional and contemporary Glatt-Kosher meals.

Bob Lepisto, SeaDream’s President, said “Research indicates the kosher industry continues to grow at an astounding rate. Starting this fall, on voyages sailing roundtrip from San Juan, Puerto Rico we’ll be able to accommodate kosher private charter weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, charity benefits, corporate and personal events.”

Sounds to me like SeaDream Yacht Club takes their clients’ dietary needs seriously and is truly stepping up to the plate, so to speak, to offer something for everyone.

Seadream Yacht Club: the complete guide

The Cruising Journal guide to Seadream Yacht Club . Informations and advices about services, drinks, excursions, itineraries. Reviews, Photos and Videos.

ON BOARD STYLE

The Seadream offers a cruise experience that is both intimate and informal, with a luxury service that is never invasive, and that makes you feel as though you were sailing on a large private yacht. In just a short amount of time the environment feels familiar and intimate. It is possible to enjoy the utmost privacy while at the same time sharing your cruising experiences and unforgettable moments with the few other guests on board.

Although the Seadream is synonymous with elegance and luxury, on board there are no particular rules for clothing. At the restaurant, as usual, it is not recommended to go in your bathing suit or, especially in the evenings, to go in shorts or t-shirts.

EXTRAS ON BOARD

The Seadream offers a wide range of all-inclusive packages for all its guests. There are no set service fees, and tips are offered as desired from the clients to the personnel. The tip money received is then deposited into an international fund for the protection of maritime workers and their families.

The following can be purchased for an additional charge: bottled wine from an extensive wine list, Spa treatments, and organized excursions.

In every port there are several different excursions offered, all exclusively in English. The company has a concierge available to guests who would like to organize transfers and personalized excursions.

RESTAURANTS

On the current Seadeam ships there is a main restaurant, usually open only in the evenings during itineraries in warmer climates. The second restaurant, featuring a partial buffet integrated with a la carte dishes, is instead located on the outside deck. In the evenings the menu is the same here as in the main restaurant. For breakfast and lunch it is an ideal location for eating you meal with a sea view.

The cuisine and the service will remind you immediately that you are on board a luxury ship and the dining will offer a true “journey” through gastronomic cultures.

SPA AND GYM

The gym on board, appropriately sized for the ship, is complete with all the basic equipment and can be used freely during the generous open hours. The Spa offers a small Turkish bath and sauna free of charge. An array of treatments are also available for an additional fee.

ITINERARIES

There are currently two twin “Seadream” ships, each of them is a little more than 100 meters in length. Their size allows them to reach exclusive ports and to be able to navigate close to the marvelous shores. They offer their passengers easy disembarking using tenders, thanks as well to the Marina at the stern. The itineraries of the Seadream Yacht Club vary from the classic and most famous Mediterranean destinations to the minor islands of the Caribbean, but also Cuba and transatlantic journeys. The new ship, the Seadream Innovation, will open up new vistas, such as incredible trips to the Arctic region that are planned for its inaugural season.

The two twin units of the Seadream Yacht club, the Seadream 1 and the Seadream 2, have four types of cabins. The Yacht Club staterooms are the basic category, they are very large and have a window. Some of these can be interconnected and converted into Commodore Suites. To travel truly in a dream, there are also the Admiral Suite and the Owners Suite, only one of each is available on board each ship. The cabins are distributed on decks 2, 3 and 4.

The service onboard the Seadream is always very attentive, helpful and cordial towards the clients. On board guests are given a bathrobe, slippers, and exclusive bathroom products. There is a free minibar in every cabin. The cabin service is free and guaranteed 24 hours a day.

The Marina and the Balinese Dream Beds represent the most unique offerings onboard the Seadream 1 and the Seadream 2. From the Marina it is possible to dive directly into the sea from the stern of the ship. It is also possible to swim or to board dinghies or canoes. The Balinese Dream Beds are instead the ideal place from which to enjoy the navigation in total comfort laying on …king sized beds. During some evenings, the Lido is transformed into an open-air cinema, offering the pleasant experience of enjoying a great film on the water.

Top Shelf Liquor Menu and Costs

First time looking into Sea Dream. I understand that most cocktails are included in your fare but that there is a top shelf liquor menu and at additional cost. Any one have a screen shot of that menu that I could see? I'm curious to what whiskey, bourbon and cognac are on that menu and approximate costs. Thank you for helping me out as I could not find any information on their website.

Just got home for 1 week on Seadream II. Unfortunately I only took picture of page 1 of the champagne menu (attached), not the liquors menu... If I recall correctly the non-included liquors were starting at 10$  / 4 cl. I was positively surprised to find out menu price was final price, no tax or service fee added on top. The selection of liquor that is included was pretty nice, all big international brands, no weird Eastern European specialities, so I didn't opt for the top shelf.

@TuomasV  Thank you. I am interested in good champagne but more importantly my love for good bourbon's and whiskeys.

I had a little help from my minions, here you are! I am pretty sure there were more luxuroius items available "under the shelf", but they were not listed anywhere.

Thank you for your effort. Scotch seems to get all the love over bourbon. It's interesting as more and more people have gotten into bourbon. Bourbon is now the "new wine," among a lot of  ages. I would love to see it be reflective in availability on cruise ships. They do have some decent cognac. Love that they have the Louis and the Remy XO. I don't care for VSOP's. Again thank you so much. If anyone else has experience with bourbon brands on board please chime in.

I'll start by saying we have no Idea what SD will be like once US citizens are allowed onboard in the various regions we love to sail but will say that in the past, once booked, I have been able to call SD and ask for special liquors.  We normally "get by" with Jack when traveling but always love something new. 🥃

I agree! We ended up doing a "Lift & Sift" on our October Royal Caribbean to November of '21. Looking to do a SD in between. I think having a cruise with less passengers will be a good way to get back into it. I really like their itinerary to BVI and Jost Van Dyke. The Soggy Dollar Bar and White Bay have been on my bucket list for a long time.

Jost is our favorite stop in the Caribbean.  Nicely rebuilt after the hurricane with improvements to the Soggy Dollar and a couple of new additions.  As to the Bourbons, as noted our go to is Jack but we were also able to get Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek.  Not sure of the pricing as we had the included beverage package but normally Viking bar charges are reasonable for what you get.  🥃

Oops. Posted on the wrong board. 😳

Can anyone speak to what Scotch and Whiskeys are included with an upcharge?

I just have one question for anyone who buys the Dom Perignon Rosé:  will you adopt me?

Haha

I wonder why they don't offer bourbon?  Or did I miss it on the list?

PS: Jack Daniels is NOT bourbon.

I recently returned from SD2 and can confirm that Makers Mark was the standard pour. That being said, they kept running out of it at various bars and then out of it completely towards the end. Frustratingly, they only offered a lesser non-bourbon pour (I think it was Jack Daniels) but would upcharge ~$10 per shot of Woodford Reserve when a bottle of Woodford costs only a few dollars more than Makers retail. This was disappointing and not what one would expect from a premium line with otherwise exceptional service.

SeaDream Yacht Club achieves milestone in sustainability with shore power installation

CruiseMapper logo

With the installation of advanced shore power technology , both SeaDream yachts can now shut off their engines and reduce emissions to zero in ports equipped with shore power facilities.

SeaDream II completed the upgrade last fall, while SeaDream I successfully underwent the upgrade during a recent yard stay at Naval Rocha Yard in Lisbon, Portugal . These upgrades make SeaDream Yacht Club the first luxury cruise line to retrofit its entire fleet with shore power connectivity.

This summer, both SeaDream yachts will explore the yachting harbors of the Mediterranean, including the Greek Isles and the French and Italian Rivieras, before transiting to the Caribbean for the 2024-2025 winter season. The drydock of SeaDream I also marked the final step in a comprehensive keel-to-mast upgrade of SeaDream’s twin yachts.

The $10+ million project includes enhancements to all suites, staterooms, public areas, and open deck spaces on both yachts. Featuring modern decor while retaining the intimate luxury of the SeaDream yachts, the upgrades include expanded stateroom space and luxurious lounging areas such as the open deck on Deck 6, featuring hammocks, a golf simulator, plush sun loungers, and two new couples’ hot tubs with unobstructed views.

The project also expanded SeaDream’s signature marinas by adding the first and only water slide on a cruise ship, providing direct access from the ship to the sea.

During the spring drydock, SeaDream I also upgraded the panoramic gym, sauna, and the SeaDream Spa – the only Thai-certified spa at sea.

Since founding modern yacht cruising in 2001, SeaDream Yacht Club has shaped and defined boutique cruising as the antithesis of mass tourism. The recent upgrade of shore power capabilities marks the latest in a decades-long commitment to sustainability in luxury travel. SeaDream’s yachting itineraries are optimized for slower speeds and lower fuel consumption, significantly reducing emissions compared to traditional cruises.

SeaDream was the first luxury cruise line to ban the use of heavy fuel oil (HFO). Since 2013, the company has powered its yachts with lighter, less polluting fuel, significantly reducing emissions.

More than a decade ago, SeaDream Yacht Club introduced a full plant-based menu, offering the widest selection of plant-based alternatives at sea. The company also sources goods locally and minimizes food waste, substantially reducing its carbon footprint.

SeaDream Yacht Club was the first luxury cruise line to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic across its fleet, replacing plastic items with sustainable options or removing single-use items altogether. All SeaDream guests receive a personalized glass bottle, refillable at water stations across the yachts, significantly reducing plastic water bottle use. Additionally, biodegradable, organic luxury bath amenities from Elm Organics Norway are provided in all staterooms and suites.

All SeaDream Yacht Club voyages feature late-night departures and often include overnight stays, maximizing time spent in port for deeper cultural immersion and enhancing local value creation for communities and businesses.
