The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) is pleased to announce that it has selected the island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands as its Caribbean base. For over 40 years the YCCS has been one of the leading Yacht Clubs in the Mediterranean, and this new expansion follows the expressed wishes of the Club’s Members to have access to quality facilities and services on both sides of the Atlantic.

It has taken several years to find the perfect location for the new Clubhouse, including excellent regatta courses, fine cruising areas, and luxurious social amenities. The inauguration date for YCCS Virgin Gorda is scheduled for March 2011, in conjunction with the inaugural Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous taking place from 16th to 20th March and organized by the YCCS and Boat International Media.

This second YCCS base will enable the international sailing and yachting community to enjoy the YCCS’s expertise in the organization of top-level international sailing events and exclusive hospitality services. Amenities at YCCS Virgin Gorda will include the Clubhouse, several docks and a marina for superyachts, as well as a selection of restaurants, shops, a pool, outdoor recreation areas, bars and concierge service for yachtsmen.

His Highness the Aga Khan, President of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, commented on the club’s Caribbean initiative: “The Officers and Members of the YCCS are very happy to see this new initiative come to fruition. We have aimed to expand our sporting and cruising activities internationally for many years, and this opportunity in Virgin Gorda will give our Members access to wonderful new locations for sailing and yachting, as well as all the services that YCCS offers in its current home base at Porto Cervo. We intend to maintain the same level of excellence in all our activities that have come to be recognized as a hallmark of the YCCS in the Mediterranean .”

This site has been chosen based on a number of key attributes including its beautiful location, with beaches, protected anchorages and marinas, its accessibility by air and sea, the security and stability of the  British Virgin Islands and, not least, the region’s renowned sailing waters where YCCS intends to develop world-class regattas. YCCS Virgin Gorda will be located on a private peninsula on the eastern tip of Virgin Gorda in the protected waters of North Sound. The Club and marina have easy access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea , as well as the islands and anchorages of the Virgin Islands and the  Leeward and  Windward Isles .

The YCCS Virgin Gorda development includes a state of the art superyacht marina designed by ATM and built by Bellingham Marine. The marina, opening in December 2010 will offer up to 38 slips for superyachts and megayachts that range in size from 30 – 100 meters (98,4 – 328 feet).

The Club and Marina, developed in partnership with Victor International Corp. will be linked to the Oil Nut Bay Luxury Resort Community and Beach Club as well as the Biras Creek Resort (a Relais and Chateaux property). The New Costa Smeralda Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda

British Virgin Island holidays have always been a big draw for the world’s sailing community, and now a new world class yacht club on Virgin Gorda is taking that to the next level.

The world famous Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has just announced the completion of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Virgin Gorda clubhouse , which is the final chapter in the development of YCCS Virgin Gorda .  This brand new state-of-the-art marina and yacht club is a new chapter for Yacht Club Costa Smeralda , one of the world’s most prestigious yacht clubs, founded by the Aga Khan in Porto Cervo in Costa Smeralda, Sardinia.

For a generation, Costa Smeralda has been famous in the international sailing and yachting worlds for its top level of sailing events and its unparalleled dedication to services and amenities.  The company is hoping that the brand new Costa Smeralda Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda will be the yacht club of choice for anyone sailing or yachting in the Caribbean.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

Anchorage on the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Marina is possible on the South shore of the Virgin Gorda Island. There is a T-shaped quay which is capable of accommodating various luxurious charter yachts of up to 100m length and 9m drought. The two sides of the large pontoon allow mooring of up to 30 charter yachts. The Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands is a subsidiary of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda located in Cervo Porto, Italy.

General Information

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was established in 1967. It is situated in Cervo Porto of northern Sardinia. The purpose of this club to build a non-profit sporting association for sailing enthusiasts. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) Clubhouse was built in the 1970s. YCCS Clubhouse is located in Virgin Gorda and provides a place for boat accommodation, various dock services and refreshments. It also provides concierge who shall take care of your bookings etc. There is an infinity pool which provides a pleasant view of the North Sound . The restaurant serves Italian and Caribbean cuisines and provisioning for visiting charter yachts is available.

This Restaurant offers a fine dining experience for the visitors. It serves local Caribbean and Italian cuisines, as well as international cuisines, are offered. The restaurant provides an exceptional view of the British Virgin Island. Their menus offer fresh fish dishes, salads and steaks.

The Bar Aqua is a waterside restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their menu varies from a selection of pizzas, fresh salad and handmade burgers which made of Bison from the grasslands of US.

Places of Interest

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda offers a place of relaxation with its pool, water games and refreshments. The Virgin Gorda island provides a variety of activities. There are a few diving sites which are nearby the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Also North Sound bay provides a hub for watersports, such as kayaking, snorkeling and kite surfing, with a range of bars and restaurants. The Baths, one of the most popular attractions among BVI yacht charter tourists , can be visited from YCCS.

While visiting the Virgin Gorda Island, don’t forget to take your charter yacht to Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and take in the view of the North Sound Bay from the infinity pool while sipping on cocktails. The various facilities of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will take care of you and your yacht.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s Future Still in Limbo!

For those anxious for an update on Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) information about what is happening with the rebuild and when the resort be operational has been extremely hard to come by. Here are four things we know or have heard to date:

1 – No Website Infomation: The YCCS website only offers the following message, “We apologize for any inconvenience, however due to damage caused by Hurricane Irma, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Virgin Gorda will remain closed until further notice.”

2 – No Communication: They last posted on Facebook on December 24, 2017 after Irma.

3 – No Evidence of Rebuilding: The photo above taken in late March, 2019 shows no evidence of any progress in the rebuilding as the YCCS Clubhouse looks exactly the same as it does in the post Irma photo below. More importantly the docks are gone!

4 – Projected Opening Date: According to a December 24, 2018 article in the BVI News no exact date was given for the re-opening of YCCS. In the article, Premier Dr D Orlando Smith was quoted as saying, “Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, more commonly known as YCCS, are also slated to resume operations shortly.” This statement leaves us very confused.

The site, however, has run its course. It has served its purpose by bringing visitors and local businesses together to rebuild the tourist industry and it is now time to shut down operations for good.

The Yacht Club building is on schedule for completion and is making significant progress, slated to officially open in December 2011.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda on Virgin Gorda is officially open.

Victor International Chairman David Johnson spearheaded the construction of the marina and clubhouse, which he said took about 12 months to complete.

“Yes, the club is completely finished,” Mr. Johnson said. “We will be adding additional plantings in the near future.”

YCCS, based on the Italian isle of Sardinia, will now manage the club facilities at the North Sound yacht club. The 38-slip marina has 2,500 feet of dockage and a harbourmaster office.

“We will consider additional amenities and services like a YCCS boutique based on the demands of the market,” YCCS Secretary General Jan Pachner said. “The club is finished, but as with any opening, we are working together with the builder on a punchlist of last finishes and touches, but most of it will be in the back-of-house area so it will not disturb any guests.”
