According to local media reports, the superyacht was “sailing” through the Es Freus marine reserve between Ibiza and Formentera at the time of the incident.
When the fire broke out, a commercial vessel stepped in to tow the boat to an empty dock in Ibiza port in order to help fire crews access the yacht.
It is understood that the blaze began in the engine room at around 2.30pm local time. After multiple fire teams battled the flames, the fire was put out around 8pm local time.

Watch: Luxury yachts worth millions of euros are washed up and damaged in Spain’s Balearic Islands amid ‘dangerous’ summer storms
A NUMBER of luxury yachts washed up on the shores of the Balearic Islands after an unseasonal late summer storm.
The Wally Love, a sleek 30.5-metre vessel valued at €4 million, was found washed up on the shores of Formentera after being battered by gale force winds and heavy seas.
Designed by Luca Bassani and constructed in 2007, the yacht’s carbon fibre structure and contemporary interiors made it a noted name in the superyacht world.
Despite recent upgrades – including new sails, a carbon fibre mast inspection, and tank cleanings, the Wally Love could not withstand the force of the storm.

The storm caused widespread damage across the islands, with numerous boats being swept away from their moorings.
One experienced ship engineer told the Olive Press the vessel ‘should have had 24 hour watch.’
“If they know there’s bad weather coming, they should have heightened watch with the engines ready to start at any time if things looked bad,” he said.
“There should also be an alarm bell attached to the anchor to alert the crew if it starts to move.”
For the smaller boats that washed up, he blamed it on a lack of experience from the owners.

“People don’t always know what they’re doing and they don’t put enough chain on the anchor.”
In addition to the Wally Love, other luxury yachts, including the Benetti Sea Belle and the Sanlorenzo Francamarina, were also damaged in the incident.
The storms and rain have been wreaking havoc in Mallorca during the height of the summer season.
Videos shared online show roads completely flooded with cars being carried away.
Another video appeared to show the floors of a hotel in Mallorca being completely flooded, with workers wading through the water.

Spain had issued a red weather alert for Mallorca on Thursday due to the severe storms and rainfall.
A so-called DANA weather front passed over the Balearic Islands after leaving storms and heavy rain in the north-east of the mainland earlier this week.
The red alert by Aemet is the highest warning level possible and means there is a serious risk to life.
Meanwhile the rest of the entire island was on orange-level alert for the same freak weather.
The entirety of Ibiza was also on an orange alert for storms and rain.

- Seven crew and nine passengers evacuated without injuries, but the superyacht is destroyed.
- It is still unknown what caused the fire and where it originated on the superyacht.
A $24 million superyacht, recently received by its multimillionaire owner, caught on fire and is not believed to be salvageable.
The 43.7 meter long superyacht belonged to Paolo Scudieri, the chairman of Adler-Hp Pelzer Group, an automotive parts company.
The Aria SF superyacht was anchored on the west coast of Formentera at Cala Saona in the Balearic Sea when it caught on fire, according to Spanish sea safety and rescue agency Salvamento Marítimo. The agency said the superyacht would be towed to Ibiza.
The superyacht had seven crew members and nine passengers onboard, and everyone was able to evacuate with no injuries. So far, its still unknown what caused the fire and where it originated on the superyacht.
The superyacht included five staterooms, including two VIP suites and two twin staterooms, that could hold up to 10 guests. Scudieri's suite , located on the main deck, included a private lounge, skylight, and a terrace. His suite also had an outdoor lounge that he could access with a private staircase.

Italian Businessman's $24 Million Superyacht with a Pool Goes Up in Flames Weeks After Delivery
All seven crew members and nine passengers were able to safely evacuate after the fire broke out
Superyacht Aria SF went up in flames off the coast of Formentera, a small island in Spain, according to multiple reports.
Just weeks after being delivered late last month to Paolo Scudieri, an Italian businessman and car industry leader, the $24 million vessel caught on fire Thursday, The Guardian reported, citing search and rescue agency Salvamento Marítimo .
Although the massive yacht is thought to be unsalvageable, all seven crew members and nine passengers — none of whom have been identified — were able to safely evacuate and were not harmed, according to The Guardian . The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The search and rescue agency, which shared photos of the fire on social media, said that the yacht will be relocated to Ibiza.
Scudieri is the president of Adler-Hp Pelzer Group , which produces "acoustical and thermal components and systems for the automotive sector." PEOPLE has contacted Scudieri's company for comment.
Additionally, he is a participant in the Ferrari Challenge , a "competition for those who, not satisfied with just driving their Ferraris on the road, feel the urge to compete in top-level sprint races."
Scudieri is believed to have a fortune of around $500 million, according to The Guardian .

The Aria SF , which was set to make its public debut at the upcoming Cannes and Monaco yacht shows later this year, had plenty of luxurious amenities, according to SuperYachtTimes .
In addition to boasting an open-air gym as well as a swimming pool, the Aria SF was designed to accommodate up to 10 guests, the outlet reported. The owner's suite even had its own private lounge with a sofa and a television, with direct access to an outdoor lounge thanks to a private staircase.
A launching ceremony was held back in April, which included an orchestra and multi-colored confetti that resembled the Italian flag when shot out from a cannon, according to The Daily Mail .
"A heartfelt thanks to the owner who actively participated in the construction of this new model, enhancing it with innovation and technology," ISA Yachts, which made the vessel, wrote in a statement at the time.

Luxury yacht engulfed in ball of flames off Spanish coast
Share this with
This is the dramatic moment a luxury yacht caught fire off the Spanish island of Formentera.
Footage showed the 88-foot vessel engulfed in flames, with plumes of thick, black smoke billowing into the sky.
The Italian-designed cruiser was anchored off the beach of Es Cavall d’En Borràs in the Ses Salines Natural Park near where Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted partying in recent days.
Five crew members and 12 passengers scrambled to abandon the vessel in a race against the time.
Only one of the crew members, a 39-year-old Spaniard, suffered minor burns and needed hospital treatment, the regional emergency response coordinators said.
Onlookers gathered nearby in their own boats to watch the fire.
Flames could be seen spreading throughout the yacht in just a matter ofminutes, turning it into a fireball.
Local media reported that the vessel belonged to professional poker player Diego Gomez Gonzalez, aka ‘The Lion’, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.
It was not immediately clear this morning if the people on board were tourists who had chartered the yacht or guests of the owner.
Their nationalities have also not yet been made public either.
The alarm was sounded around 6pm on Saturday, with Spanish coastguards sent to the scene.
The yacht was towed further out to sea where the fire was put out.

Formentera superyacht bursts into flames as passengers escape for their lives
Twelve passengers and five crew scrambled to abandon ship as they raced against the flames engulfing the 88ft Italian-designed megayacht that was anchored off Es Cavall d'en Borras beach off Formentera
- 08:21, 13 Aug 2023
- Updated 14:30, 13 Aug 2023
This is the dramatic moment a 88-foot luxury yacht goes up in flames off the paradise Mediterranean island of Formentera.
Onlookers gathered nearby in their own boats to watch the blaze take hold as thick black smoke rose high into the sky above the stricken vessel . Five crew and 12 passengers are said to have been on board the yacht but were able to abandon it in time despite the speed with which the fire engulfed the Italian-designed cruiser.
Terrifying video shows the flames roaring through the vessel, which is burnt back to little more than its frame in several places. The fire is thought to have ripped through the vessel in a matter of moments, sending it up in a massive fireball that could be seen from neighbouring Ibiza.
Only one of the crew members, described as a 39-year-old Spaniard who suffered minor burns, needed hospital treatment according to regional emergency response coordinators. The alarm was sounded around 6pm yesterday while the yacht was anchored off Es Cavall d’en Borras beach in the Ses Salines Natural Park.
Spanish coastguards confirmed this afternoon the yacht that went up in flames was called Irmao and it had sunk off a natural landmark called Punta de Sa Pedrera in Formentera. They shared a statement published alongside footage of coastguard vessel Acrux towing the stricken yacht further out to sea before it disappeared under the water.
It read: “Yesterday a fire occurred on board Irmao off of Formentera. Private vessels rescued the 17 people on board. Our centre in the Majorcan capital Palma mobilised Acrux which towed the yacht which was on fire, but it sank.” It was not immediately clear why the blaze had started.
The fine sand beach, one of the best in Formentera off Ibiza where Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted partying in recent days, is home to famous bar-restaurants El Tiburon and Beso Beach. The yacht has been named locally as Irmao, which is based in Ibiza and marketed online as being available for “out-of-this-world charter vacations." It sleeps 12 in a VIP cabin, one double cabin and four twin cabins and charters for nearly £40,000 a week in high season.
One unconfirmed local report said the vessel belonged to Spanish poker shark Diego Gomez Gonzales, who also goes by "The Lion", according to Olive Press. Gonzales, 34, earned his nickname after attending the 2012 European Poker Tour in Prague dressed in a fully-body lion costume. It's currently unknown if Gonzales was on board at the time or whether it was being rented.
Gonzales was reportedly born in Madrid in 1988 and while growing up he started playing the card game with school pals and members of his family. As he got older he was drawn into the world of online poker before getting a place on the Spanish poker circuit. At the same tournament where he wore the lion suit, he came fifth and scored a whopping £200,000 prize.
The yacht was anchored off one of Formentera's most-stunning beaches. The island itself is one of the Balearics and is situated next to Ibiza. It is host to a number of world-famous bars, including El Tiburon and Beso Beach.
It is home to famous bar-restaurants El Tiburon and Beso Beach.
The nationalities of those on board have not yet been made public. Spanish coastguards responded to the emergency by towing the yacht further out to sea and assisting in putting out the flames. Last summer a £20 million superyacht owned by wealthy Italian businessman Paolo Scudieri went up in flames off the coast of Ibiza.
The 150ft vessel Aria SF caught fire on August 11, just a month after being delivered to its multi-millionaire owner. Spanish coastguards sent two rescue boats to the area as the nine passengers and seven crew on board abandoned ship after a Mayday call following a failed attempt to put out the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries. The black smoke the fire caused could be seen as far away as Majorca.

'Nothing left': After California Yacht Club fire, residents mourn loss of a beloved spot
I n an instant, an overnight seaside blaze engulfed decades' worth of boating trophies, historical artifacts and cherished memorabilia at the California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey on Monday.
Fire crews attempted to control the blaze as heavy smoke and flames consumed the two-story building. By the time they had subdued the fire two hours later, only the skeletal remnants of the clubhouse were left standing.
John Myers, senior vice president of the club, said the blaze had been reported by an employee working late in the clubhouse Monday night. The fire spared the remainder of the facilities on the ground, including the docks and the yachts moored there. But the clubhouse, and particularly its second floor, was all but wiped out.
“We are working closely with the Los Angeles County Fire Department in their investigation of the cause of the incident and will share those findings when they become available to us,” Myers said.
Members are left mourning, comparing the loss to the death of a loved one.
Jennifer Dakoske Koslu awoke in Rancho Mirage at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, before the sun had risen, to find her phone inundated with text messages from club members.
The first message she read simply stated, "The CYC is gone."
“As soon as I opened my phone, it went to a link on the Citizen app and saw a video of the club burning. I was shocked,” Dakoske Koslu said.
For the last 24 years, Dakoske Koslu and her family have been dedicated members of the CYC, whose clubhouse is a few miles away from their home in Playa del Rey. She said it is where her children have grown up, familiarizing themselves with every inch.
“I remember taking my son there on the Fourth of July when he was just 3 weeks old. It was the first place we went with him as a newborn," Dakoske Koslu said.
She and her husband biked to the club in the aftermath of the fire, greeted by the charred remains of the building on Wednesday afternoon.
“The destruction is unbelievable. It's clear that the fire was burning intensely on the second floor,” Dakoske Koslu said. “There's nothing left.”
The second floor once housed a collection of the club's prestigious racing trophies, kept on display for members and visitors. The fire melted all but a single salvageable California Cup. Most notably, the priceless King of Spain Trophy, acquired in 1929 from King Alfonso XIII, was lost.
Additionally, the club lost cherished photographs of every past commodore, a significant position within a yacht club. Members said they didn't know if anyone had digitized the images of the commodores or of the club's founders.
“We would tell yachting stories at the bar around lots of memorabilia, and the yachting artifacts behind the bar are all gone now,” Tom Materna said. “The yacht club provided us a facility for the off-the-water celebrations after hard-fought competition on the water.”
The CYC dates to the early 1920s, started by boat owners from the Los Angeles Athletic Club and other yacht clubs. The Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the first clubhouse in 1922, designed by famed architect Edwin Bergstrom, co-designer of the Pentagon.
In 1965, the yacht club submitted a proposal for an all-encompassing $1-million, two-story, 10,000-square-foot clubhouse on four acres off Admiralty Way. Members envisioned a state-of-the-art facility with 170 boat slips, a guest dock, a small boat hoist and a dry land storage facility for boats. The clubhouse that resulted was dedicated on June 10, 1967.
Then-Commodore William A. DeGroot Jr. told The Times that the triangular parcel of land on which the clubhouse still sits is a “perfectly logical place for a club facility, and a commanding view down the main channel of the marina.”
Though the building has historical significance to its members, it does not have a historic designation, according to Linda Dishman, president of the Los Angeles Conservancy.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and our members,” Myers said. “CYC has been a beacon for the nautical community for the past 101 years.”
Materna, 68, first found out about the fire through Facebook as friends posted videos and photos of the damage Tuesday morning. Then he began receiving calls and text messages from friends.
“Everybody woke up in the morning and realized we'd lost a significant part of the sailing community,” Materna said.
His connection to the club dates back nearly 52 years, to when he was just 16 years old. After spending 30 years sailing professionally with Hobie Cats, mainly racing catamarans — a watercraft with two parallel hulls of equal size — he recently served as a crew member on other club members' racing yachts.
The CYC is pivotal in the boat racing community, organizing and hosting events such as the Optimist National Championship and Junior Olympic trials, Materna said. He fondly remembers the hundreds of people from across the globe converging on the marina for similar events.
The main topic among members now is what's next for the club. Dakoske Koslu noted that the club's ownership changed over the last few years, and many are unsure and concerned about the club's continuation after the fire.
The club relocated to the marina in 1967, leasing the land it sits on from the county.
“I don't think the county has really valued the contributions of the California Yacht Club as an important part of the Marina. They value Trader Joe's because it's more money for them,” Dakoske Koslu said.
Dakoske Koslu said she’s seen numerous small marine-oriented businesses displaced from the marina, making way for more commercialized developments such as Trader Joe's and Recreational Equipment Inc.
