You won't be bored on a party cruise.

The magic of a cruise vacation is created with culinary delights, exotic ports of call, comfortable accommodations, carefully curated spaces and, of course, parties. These onboard celebrations can take many forms: large dance parties and quiet lounges, family-friendly and adults-only, adrenaline-pumping and relaxing activities, elegant and come-as-you-are events, and entire ships transformed into themed cruises .

Prepare for fun times on the following ships hosting the best party cruises at sea.

Ripcord by iFly is billed as the only skydiving simulator at sea; North Star allows cruisers to snap stunning photos from the tallest viewing deck found on any cruise ship; Sky Pad provides a virtual reality experience while patrons jump on a bungee trampoline; and the Ultimate Abyss, named the tallest slide at sea, plunges 10 stories down.
  • Surprise events: Scattered throughout the ship are several surprise activities that pop up among the scheduled itinerary of events. Join a toga party; boogie at a disco brigade; dress for a masquerade party; or transport back in time at an '80s-inspired extravaganza.

The 9 Best Party Cruise Ships

author image

See recent posts by Jason Leppert

Depending on your travel style, how you choose to party on the high seas can mean a million different things. We've rounded up a wide array of cruise ships for every kind of traveler. To start with, you'll find classic ships for cruisers looking to party spring-break style. Expect bumping dance music, lots of nightclub action, and hosted daytime pool parties. To even things out, we've also found the ships that are best for travelers who like to mix high-octane adventure with their party antics, and even some family-friendly party ships. Read on for our nine favorite party cruise ships, from Carnival to Disney and everything in between. It's a party on the high seas.

Cruising for the first time? Make sure you don't let these cruise travel disasters happen to you!

1. Carnival Fantasy

The Main Pool on the Carnival Fantasy/Oyster

Wondering which cruise line is best for partying? Well, we found it. Carnival Cruises are hands-down the way to go for those seeking a tried-and-true cruise party experience. For starters, the cruise line has its own DJ academy that’s run by famous Las Vegas and Miami DJs. The brand essentially gave birth to the party cruise with its “Fun Ship” fleet, and the Carnival Fantasy is the most senior of those. In fact, there are a total of eight Fantasy-class sister ships that are commonly deployed on shorter weekend getaway cruises. That makes these the perfect length cruises for travelers who want to party, but not spend too many of their vacation days. Interiors are bright and colorful throughout the ships, including the the bars and nightclubs. The Fantasy itself features the line’s latest BlueIguana Tequila Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar, as well as a nightclub and theme party nights. Is this a peaceful weekend getaway? Likely not. But if you’re looking to live your wildest life, the Carnival Fantasy is for you.

2. Carnival Vista

The Beach Pool on Carnival Vista/Oyster

If you’re seeking Carnival’s slightly more refined side, the Carnival Vista may be more your speed. All the fun is still here, but the formerly flashy decor of previous ships is swapped for a more subtle beach resort aesthetic. You’ll find brand staples like BlueIguana Cantina, along with the pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and RedFrog Pub & Brewery offer beers that are brewed right onboard. Aside from the bars and clubs, parties are hosted at the outdoor pool deck and indoors at the Liquid Lounge. Check your cruise itinerary for theme nights, so you know which outfits to pack.

3. Norwegian Escape

Jimmy Buffett’s Magaritaville at Sea on Norwegian Escape/Oyster

Norwegian Cruise Line channels Jimmy Buffett to create the relaxed party atmosphere aboard the Norwegian Escape . The musician’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar and Margaritaville at Sea embody his philosophy of partaking in the good life. Still, passengers can get their blood pumping again with all sorts of high-octane activities. There are thrilling waterslides plus a challenging ropes course to enjoy. Broadway-worthy productions in the Stardust Theater are also thrilling. And then there are the themed parties (like the wildly popular Glow Party), which you’ll learn more about just below.

4. Norwegian Pearl

Comedy and Dancing on Norwegian Pearl/Oyster

In addition to the Norwegian Escape, the Norwegian Pearl is party central. For starters, many music festivals come to the ship, giving guests a chance to listen in on multiple live sets as well as mingle with their favorite artists. The expansive pool deck and concert-friendly Stardust Theater also make great live-entertainment venues. However, Norwegian is perhaps most famous for its themed party nights. These include Latin Night, ’70s and ’80s nights, and the Glow Party — where black lights, club music, and neon are guaranteed to make the night memorable.

5. Harmony of the Seas

Royal Promenade on Harmony of the Seas/Oyster

If you’re after a cruise ship that’s really more of a floating city, you’d do well to check out the ships of the Royal Caribbean International line. Specifically, the Harmony of the Seas . It’s one of the largest at sea, and has almost too many venues, restaurants, and bars to count. How big is the Harmony of the Seas? Well, for starters, its central Royal Promenade is big enough to host parades, and its Studio B is a multipurpose hub of activity complete with a genuine ice rink. This one even has an escape room experience — Escape the Rubicon — as well as the thrilling Ultimate Abyss spiral dry slide and AquaTheater, with performers executing all sorts of cool acrobatics and aerials. Harmony of the Seas also has a bevy of bars to keep your thirst at bay, including a robot bar and a nightclub with a light-up dance floor.

6. Anthem of the Seas

The North Star Bar on Anthem of the Seas/Oyster

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas is another ship that mixes party-ready elements (like a dizzying number of bars) with cool thrills for those who get their kicks in more visceral ways. Or maybe you love both! Let’s start with the booze. Like sister ship Harmony of the Seas, you’ll find the Bionic Bar on board, where robots stir and shake all types of boozy concoctions to shockingly solid reviews. There’s also the North Star, which allows you to sip cocktails while dangling way above the cruise deck. For cruisers who prefer some action, check out the line’s signature FlowRider surf simulator as well as the RipCord by iFly skydiving simulator (which is especially fun lit up in neon at night). For milder, kid-friendly fun, head to the SeaPlex. Here you’ll find a video game lounge, bumper car arena, roller rink, circus school, and dance club.

7. Disney Fantasy

Disney Fantasy character show/Courtesy of Jason Leppert

It will come as absolutely no surprise that when it comes to family party time, Disney Cruise Line takes the cake. And its Disney Fantasy ship just so happens to pack in the most fun for travelers on its weeklong voyages. You can expect Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and other recognizable Disney characters at sea, which is guaranteed to please the youngest cruisers. Best of all, the line does a fine job of providing something for everyone. Families can catch stage shows, film screenings, and opt for themed dining, as well as ride the AquaDuck water coaster and play at the AquaLab. Kid-centric destinations onboard include the Midship Detective Agency or Disney’s Oceaneer Club — where the little ones will get character visits and access to games and toys. Adults can head to Europa for The Tube nightclub or La Piazza, Ooh La La, O’Gills Pub, and Skyline bars.

8. Disney Wonder

Tiana's Place, Disney Wonder/Courtesy of Jason Leppert

The Disney Wonder may be smaller than the Fantasy, but you’ll still find plenty of family-fun party activites on board. Those include its own AquaLab interactive water park., as well as a long line-up of deck performances (including one helmed by Mickey Mouse as your ship departs port). Fireworks and pirates are also cruisers favorites. When it comes to dining, the Disney Wonder excels, especially at Tiana’s Place, a restaurant inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.” Here, a live jazz band and parade accompany your southern-inspired meals. Of course, big hits with kids include the Marvel Super Hero Academy and Frozen Adventures, which are both part of Disney’s Oceaneer Club. No Disney Wonder cruise would be complete without a visit from Queen Elsa and Princess Anna during the family-friendly “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.”

9. Queen Mary 2

yacht party cruise

While it may not come to mind as a party ship at first, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 is a wonderful option for those who want to step back in time. This ocean liner is all about creating an elegant vintage vibe, with its formal dress code and live big-band music. The ship attracts a more mature crowd than you’d find on Carnival’s ships, and far fewer families than the Disney cruises. It also has an incredibly high price tag, with luxury dining venues and the world’s only at-sea planetarium. Itineraries can be incredibly long and are often booked as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure (including around-the-world sailings). When it comes to entertainment, expect everything from Broadway-style revues to Shakespeare.

The 6 best party cruises on the high seas, from sun-deck soirees to disco dance-offs

Ashley Kosciolek

Whether you're a joiner who loves a themed shindig, a sucker for a family promenade parade, a fan of high-class ballroom dancing or a college student who enjoys a raging kegger, there's a line to fit your cruise party style.

If you're searching for a raucous atmosphere with lots of drinking and dancing into the wee hours of the morning, you'll do best on short sailings (two to four days) out of Florida or southern California. Choose a time when primary schools are in session for a more adult rather than family-focused vibe on board. College spring break weeks are often the ultimate party cruises.

If you're looking for a different kind of party — perhaps something more refined or family-friendly — which cruise line you choose is likely more important than the length of the voyage or the departure port.

Here's my list of the best party cruise lines, whether you want to drop it low or raise the roof.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Margaritaville at Sea: Best for budget bashes

yacht party cruise

If you're short on time, cash or both, Margaritaville at Sea — which operates just one ship, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise — is the ideal party cruise ship line. Each sailing is just two nights, and the ship runs back and forth between the Port of Palm Beach in Florida and Freeport in the Bahamas.

Because most passengers seek out the ship for a quick getaway where they can let loose during a couple of days off from work, they're often in the mood to party. (After all, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.)

You'll find pool deck dance parties, Jimmy Buffett-themed nightly shows and several bars and lounges on board. The main lounge, Euphoria, is where you can get your boogie on after hours.

To be clear, the ship is more than 30 years old, so you won't be in the lap of luxury on one of these sailings. However, the pricing is great for cruisers on tight budgets . Fares start from $299 for two people for an ocean-view cabin — just $75 per person, per night (not including taxes or port fees). You'd be hard-pressed to find land-based accommodations for that little, and Margaritaville's fares also include meals and entertainment. The best prices are offered midweek.

Want to make the festivities last a bit longer? You can tack on a two-night pre- or post-cruise stay at Margaritaville in Orlando, or book a stay of two, four or six nights at a resort in Freeport before cruising back to Florida.

Virgin Voyages: Best for trendy parties

yacht party cruise

Ain't no party like a Richard Branson cruise ship party, and there are plenty of them on Virgin Voyages ' ships. When the business mogul signed his name to the cruise line, it was a given that the vessels would be fresh, trendy and ready to rock.

A mix of rockstar chic and drag queen glam, a cruise with Virgin feels like one long fever dream, albeit a pleasant one. All ships are for adults only.

Passengers can expect risqué entertainment, including lounge singer-style performances; late-night parties, notably Scarlet Night, where everyone is encouraged to dress in red for a giant poolside rave; and wacky events like scavenger hunts and secret below-deck tours that take you for tipples in the crew bar after the sun sets.

What's most refreshing about Virgin's take on cruising is its "come as you are" attitude. On a recent sailing, I saw crew — men and women — dressed as merpeople, passengers who decided to wear tutus to dinner (and they weren't even a little bit out of place doing so), and singers and dancers of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities.

Virgin Voyages' ships will give you music festival vibes at sea — but with much better accommodations and fellow guests who have actually showered. (Body glitter, glow-in-the-dark clothing and fairy wings are all encouraged.)

Carnival Cruise Line: Best party drinks

yacht party cruise

If you prefer to enjoy parties with an adult beverage in hand, a Carnival cruise is worth your consideration. Its mixed drinks are some of the tastiest and most creative in the industry, including specialty concoctions that change color or which are topped with poppable smoke bubbles.

My favorites? Try the Cucumber Sunrise (vodka, lime juice, watermelon syrup, orange juice and muddled cucumber) at the Alchemy bar on nearly any Carnival ship or the Crystal Ball (tequila, Green Chartreuse, agave nectar and lime) at the Fortune Teller bar on Mardi Gras.

One downside is that the drinks can be pricey. If you plan to consume a lot of alcohol, you might want to consider one of the line's beverage packages , which run from $60-65 per person, per day. At that rate, you'd have to drink roughly six cocktails per day to make it worth the cost, and if you purchase the package, anyone else in your cabin who's 21 or older will have to do the same.

Like Margaritaville at Sea, the line offers affordable sailings, but it has a larger fleet of ships from which to choose — some of the best party cruise ships afloat. Also like Margaritaville at Sea, its shorter sailings tend to draw a more party-hardy crowd, so keep that in mind as you determine the level of shenanigans you prefer when you're having a good time.

MSC Cruises: Best for late-night parties

yacht party cruise

Are you someone who likes to party all night and sleep in the next day? MSC Cruises is a great cruise line for doing just that, especially if you're sailing on one of its Europe-based ships. (On a recent U.S.-based sailing, the club was dead before midnight, but the casino and its bar were open until well after I went to bed.)

Every vessel has a host of bars and lounges, but you'll want to make your way to the onboard nightclub, where DJs play music until well after 2 a.m., as long as there's a crowd.

Themed parties include white parties, where all passengers are encouraged to wear white, and snow parties, where the crew blasts fake snow (read: foam) onto the pool deck as passengers dance.

If you also want to party ashore, look for Caribbean itineraries that offer overnights at the line's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve . After the sun sets, the body of the island's lighthouse illuminates with LED lights to create a spectacular show accompanied by a shoreside beach party.

Don't worry if you feel tired or hung over the next day. In true Italian fashion — it's a Mediterranean line, after all — the coffee is superb. Every bar has a fancy machine that can make whatever your caffeine-starved heart desires: espresso, Americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha and more. Note that specialty coffee costs extra if you don't have a beverage package.

Royal Caribbean: Best for family-friendly parties

yacht party cruise

Royal Caribbean is one of the most family-friendly cruise lines sailing the seas. Although the line's ships offer plenty of adult activities on board — late-night clubbing, adults-only hot tubbing and 18+ scavenger hunts — they also schedule plenty of parties for kids and families to enjoy together.

For example, every ship that's debuted since 1999 features an indoor promenade, lined with shops and restaurants, that serves as the venue for special performances. For years, Royal Caribbean's promenade parades included characters from "Shrek" and "Madagascar" as part of the line's former partnership with DreamWorks.

Now, the promenade shows feature members of the onboard entertainment staff performing well-known hits, such as the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," while dressed in costumes. Pirate ships and other props make the experience a fantastic one for all age groups but definitely for children.

Royal Caribbean also scores off the charts in terms of kids club offerings. In addition to a battery of supervised daily activities, the staff also organizes nighttime events, including dance parties, where kids can get their groove on with new friends while enjoying mocktails.

If that isn't enough, the line hosts several theme nights, which encourage passengers to dress up. Held on sailings of four nights or longer, these gatherings, which are appropriate for all ages, might be themed as masquerade, country western, toga or decade-specific ('50s, '60s, '70s, '80s) parties.

Cunard Line: Best for high-class hootenannies

yacht party cruise

If animated characters, twerking and loud, pulsating music aren't your thing, you might prefer a sailing on one of Cunard 's classic, nautically styled vessels.

On Queen Mary 2, for example, you can partake in ballroom dance classes, where you'll learn to cut a rug with the best of them.

At night, take your newfound (or, perhaps, well-worn) skills back to the ballroom, where a live band plays as cruisers dance classic styles like waltz, foxtrot and swing — often in their most swanky attire. Cunard is one of the few remaining cruise lines that still has formal nights .

On a recent sailing, people nearly three times my age were up dancing until well after 2 a.m. (Seriously, a 103-year-old WWII veteran showed me up on the dance floor several nights in a row.)

During the day, when you're not honing your fancy footwork, the ballroom is used for another more sedentary type of party: afternoon tea. You won't want to miss the pastries and finger sandwiches served by white-gloved waiters. The scones and clotted cream are a party for your tastebuds.

Bottom line

Whether your idea of a party includes loud, late-night debauchery with plenty of drinks or a more laid-back gathering where passengers sip tea in a formal ballroom, there's a cruise that will allow you to cut loose in whichever way you prefer. Your preferences are, ultimately, what determine the best party cruise line for you.

Choose shorter, less expensive sailings for a more raucous experience; select a longer, pricier voyage if you're looking for understated celebrations. Either way, you're sure to have a great time.

The best boat parties in NYC

1.  north river lobster company.

North River Lobster Company

During the summer,  North River Lobster Company  (New York City’s beloved floating seafood restaurant since 2014) offers four daily sailings at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm from Wednesday to Sunday every week. Afternoon cruises are 1 hour and the 7pm cruise is a two-hour route to the Statue of Liberty and back —how beautiful! On the menu: Maine Lobster Rolls, seafood platters, burgers, and ready-to-share appetizers. New menu items this year include tuna tartare, clam dip and chips, The Skagen shrimp roll, and sweet lobster clawsicles in four different flavors (mango, piña colada, strawberry and lime). The best deal on board may be the $17 glass of rosé and 3 oyster special, or you can go all out with the epic 28-inch lobster roll (dubbed the world’s largest lobster roll) for $149, to feed a group.

2.  Evening Jazz Cruise

Evening Jazz Cruise

Here’s one for the schmoozy, romantic vacationers who are seeking a maximum NYC experience. This sunset sailing cruise with a live jazz band will have you gazing (and jiving) out as the sun drops below Manhattan. Sitting on a 1920s sailing boat, you’ll sail past NYC’s biggest landmarks (including the Statue of Liberty) while a live band plays a mix of beloved classics to contemporary R&B renditions. With an alcoholic drink in hand, live jazz in your ears, and the city lights sparkling in your eyes across the water, you’re in for a swingingly good time.

3.  Alive After Five Happy Hour Cruise

Alive After Five Happy Hour Cruise

You didn’t forget all about Happy Hour, did you? It’s basically your dang right after making it through your day job. Gather your clocked-out coworkers and friends and board the Alive After Five cruise, which makes the most of happy hour—it actually lasts two hours —along the Hudson River in City Cruises’ Sensation yacht. You’ll have two climate-controlled desks to choose from, plus a covered roof deck, and multiple dance floors if that’s your jam. And if you still have sea legs for social life after all that social distancing, the cruise has a DJ to get the party moving.

4.  Rocks Off Concert Cruises

Rocks Off Concert Cruises

If you’re looking for yacht rock, look away: the savvy organizers of this floating concert snare hard rock bands like Murphy’s Law, Badfish, and Electric Six that draw die hard fans for serious—and often seriously sweaty—rock sessions. They know the ropes when it comes to pulling off a bash in a boat, so make sure you’re ready for plenty of percussion and less calls for mutiny than encores.

5.  Bateaux New York Dining Cruises

Bateaux New York Dining Cruises

Is it really a party if you’re sitting down? Yes—it’s called a dinner party . On the fancier side (semi-formal dress is encouraged), this dinner cruise looks particularly swell inside the European-inspired Bateaux New York, a glass-roofed boat that soaks in Manhattan’s lit skyline after sunset while navigating the East and Hudson Rivers. The experience takes it up a notch with live music—a two-piece acoustic band led by a female vocalist—and takes dinner to the next level with seafood towers, filet mignon, and lobster tails.

6.  Evening Cocktail Cruise

Evening Cocktail Cruise

Head to Chelsea Piers and say cheers with an evening cocktail party aboard a 1920’s inspired yacht, an intimate little party boat that rounds out a 1.75 hour journey with modern riffs on old-school cocktails, like a Sake Gimlet or a Rosemary Rickey. The charter, Sail NYC, runs a tight ship—and we mean that literally, considering the boat’s smaller size—that’ll get you tipsy in no time. Yes, the focus is technically on the booze, but also on the views seen from the yacht’s large windows as you ease past classic sites like the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and Ellis Island.

7.  La Barca Cantina

La Barca Cantina

La Barca Cantina , the only Mexican restaurant on a boat in NYC, serves a summer street food-inspired menu that’ll get the party started for you and your friends. Based at Pier 81, next to its sister-restaurant North River Lobster Company, La Barca spans three levels with an expansive outdoor top deck with a bar and table seating, a bi-level interior space with two bars, table seating and booth-like tables—perfect for large groups.  Even better, it takes short cruises multiple times per day, five days a week, offering up sweeping views of the NYC skyline. (It's a must to reserve a table for cocktails at sunset.)

8.  Narwhal Yacht Charters

Narwhal Yacht Charters

A party is what you make of it, especially when you make it your own . For a little more privacy, groups of up to six can rent their own excursion with Narwhal Yacht Charters—it’s on the pricier end, but the seasoned charter is worth their salt, having just celebrated its 10th season on NYC’s waters. The captain provides the necessities (bottled water, sodas, ice, napkins, that sorta stuff) but the rest is up to you. Pick up food from your favorite restaurant, bring all of your favorite booze, and set sail with your besties.

South Beach's Favorite Party Boat Experience

"There were 9 of us that booked Southbeach Party Boats and we had such a blast! Captain Ryan was a ton of fun! Bobby did a nice job at service recovery!! They take you around the bay and then dock at a nearby island where you can swim, drink, dance , tan and eat food! They grilled some burgers and hot dogs that were delicious!! They provide wine and beer! The plus was that you can bring your own booze on Board!! I am definitely coming back to this booze cruise when I return to South Beach!!"

"South Beach Party Boats is the way to go if you are looking for a SUPER fun experience. They played the music we wanted, had all the beer, wine and water we could ask for, they even had a beer opener! These people were prepared and you could tell they just want everyone to be happy and have a good time. Also, it was a GORGEOUS boat ride and loved seeing different parts of Miami. Even the party bus was awesome and picked us up right on time! Seriously I dont have any complaints."

"We were the first boat trip of the day and the crew was late and needed a half hour to stock the boat, that was the only bummer of the experience, loosing a half hour. The boat was so much fun and provided enough food and booze to satisfy and played awesome music! They had rafts and paddle boards to add to it. Would definitely recommend and would do it again!"

"Amazing! It was more than I ever expected It to be. I went and celebrated my birthday with a couple of friends and its absolutely one for the books. The ride was great, they allowed us to connect our own aux, and although we had other people on the boat with us we all got together and had an amazing time. Thank You South Beach Party Boats for a birthday my friends and I will never forget. I'll be sure to recommend you all to anyone and everyone I know. Thanks Again!!"

Party Cruises

CruiseMapper logo

"Party Cruises" are fun- themed cruises on chartered boats (smaller-sized and mega-yachts and ships. On major cruise companies, such deals are offered mostly as low-season specials. Cheaper prices are also attainable with large group bookings. Spring Break is another "party time" season (not cheap though).

These voyages are perfect for fun addicted individuals who want to make the most of their cruise ship vacation - partying all day, all night long.

For your convenience, the following links jump down directly to CruiseMapper's party cruises schedule (listing companies, ships, departure dates, homeports) and shortbreak NYC cruises .

"Party Cruises" belong to the category of themed cruise travel deals. These are the lines' best offers on special (and most unusual!) sea vacations which bring together like-minded voyagers to enjoy all the same activities - together.

Party Cruises - CruiseMapper

How to find party cruise deals? Come to a travel company specialized in travel for students and young professionals who look for excitement. Choose to book a party cruise ship vacation for any size of the group. Your party cruise group could be from a few dozen passengers (a small percentage of passengers' list) to a huge party crowd taking over the entire ship!

Private party cruises are also suitable for young prosperous companies that look for a modern way to host business conferences. Party cruise ships are also a cool suggestion for week-long wedding celebrations, or entire class celebrating graduation together.

You should also count all the Christmas and New Year cruises as a special party type voyages. They got their specially themed activities, special dinner menus, special entertainment programs, special decorations - and many many special people just dying to enjoy all the festivity at sea!

"Booze Cruises" are another party themed best seller! They are operated mostly as one-night cruise deals in huge megapolises (and carnival-fun cities), like NYC New York, Miami, Los Angeles, New Orleans. Booze cruise deals are relatively expensive, but also readily available - the whole year-round.

Cruise To Nowhere - extremely rare as availability (often on new ships ), higher prices (as cabin rates PP per day). Nowhere cruise deals on big ship lines are offered also for departures from the world's biggest ports - NYC (also from Bayonne NJ), Tampa FL, Southampton UK, Sydney Australia. On smaller boats you can book one-night harbor cruises in most big port cities - Miami, Baltimore, LA, and San Francisco are among the most popular in the US.

You just find your good reason for a party voyage and a "most fun" group of companions to travel with, then make it happen - it's as simple as that!

What are the best Party Cruise lines?

Are you looking for party cruises to suit a group of friends for the summer beginning? Wondering which is the best of all party cruise lines or what are the specific party cruising offers that would be most exciting for college kids?

By the way, what do students expect from a party cruise vacation? Let me guess here:

  • Great (or at least decently good) nightlife, and each night?
  • Be around lots of girls?
  • Gorging with delicious food, and drinking alcohol perhaps?

Here comes your answer right now- Carnival, the "Fun Ships" line, the best party cruising line, like ever!

Carnival has worked hard to overcome the party-get-drunk image. The Carnival alcohol policy enforces strictly the minimum age for drinking 21 years old. Carnival lines also require any passengers under 21 years old to be accompanied by an adult, who is responsible for them and has booked into the same cabin. This adult must also be at least 25. Today Carnival "Fun Ships" attract more and more families with kids as well - because they offer low prices and many tons of fun activities.

Most Carnival vessels are indistinguishable from one other and provide the opportunity to eat and drink oneself into a stupor. Count on the brass and pink marble, twinkly signage and neon tubing, piles of a crowd that please drinks in restaurants named such as Chic, Grand Buffet, and Taste of Nations. Carnival ships boast signature water slides, kid-friendly activities, and most spacious staterooms (including many connecting cabins!).

Top Party Cruise Ships

So, from the world's largest and most famous party cruise lines, Carnival is the number one - no doubt about it! NCL and Royal Caribbean are ranked second equally - but I guess you can doubt this equilibrium. Balance is the most elusive concept.

  • Royal Caribbean ships have multilevel disco nightclubs with celebrity DJ shows.
  • Carnival ships have D's trained by DJ IRIE. Punchliner Comedy Club offers talent show every night.
  • NCL Norwegian ships offer some of the best parties at sea (featuring the White Hot Party).
  • Cunard ships have the largest and most luxurious dancing halls and balls at sea.
  • Disney ships will surprise you with their adults' nighttime offers. They don't have casinos but compensate with bars and clubs.
  • Costa ships' most popular party is the toga party.

How to choose a Party Cruise ship?

If you are among the partying kind of guys and looking for lots of young people and activities well into the night, stick with major lines and larger ships. Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, and NCL Norwegian Cruise Lines all have some of the world's biggest cruise ships holding more than 5,000 guests. These vessels offer a variety of bars, night clubs, and recreational facilities. They tend to attract younger and more active clientele. The 3- and 4-night voyages also provide more of a party cruise deals, especially on ships departing from Florida cruise ports.

Everybody has his/her own idea about the ideal travel vacation. Some are looking for short breaks to a relaxing place - just for getting away from the big city. Others are considering as the best vacation choice party cruise ships for their so many onboard activities. Special reasons? Top priorities are meetings with other young people, pool parties at day, deck parties in the evenings, dance parties into the wee hours - of each night!

Top 3 best party cruise ships

The following are a very special "party cruise ships" with a most specific party fun atmosphere, so you should consider:

  • Carnival Elation is not the largest ship on the seas, but she has a reputation for being one of the most fun. This based in New Orleans cruise ship makes 4-night Mexico voyages to Yucatan Peninsula, with much sea time for enjoying the fun on board. If you choose to sail on the Carnival Elation ship, be sure to find more than a dozen lounges and bars, everything from a sports bar to piano bars, full disco and a comedy club, a basketball court and a karaoke lounge.
  • NCL Norwegian Epic (the line's largest ship) has twenty bars and lounges (including the Ice Bar, only of its kind at sea), and the beach club (adults-only). Other special fun facilities on this ship are the climbing wall, an 8,000 ft2 (743 m2) fitness center, the comedy club "Second City". NCL Epic sails on 7-night weekly Caribbean voyages from Miami.
  • Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas ( world's largest passenger ships EVER ) offer something (or should I say everything?) for everyone. These mega-liners invite party cruise enthusiasts with dozens of lounges, bars, restaurants (including the well-known Rita’s Cantina with its margaritas). Other amenities include the "Prohibition Era" themed parties on each sailing. Among "best party" facilities are the skating rink, the 3D-movie theater, and the two-level dance club.

In addition to the numerous party cruises with tons of onboard activities, major lines also provide different shore excursions that are specially designed to add more flavor to the cruising party experiences after you depart the ship. Beach barbecue parties and glass-bottom boat cruise party tours are among these. A few lines also schedule spring break party cruises for students.

How to Plan a Yacht Party: Dos and Don’ts

Home » How to Plan a Yacht Party: Dos and Don’ts

Table of Contents

There’s something undeniably glamorous about a yacht party. It’s a unique blend of freedom, luxury, and natural beauty, creating an unforgettable experience. However charming and fun as it may sound, planning a yacht party requires meticulous attention to detail. This blog post aims to help you navigate the waves and devise the perfect plan to host a memorable yacht party.

Following this guide, avoid common pitfalls and ensure your yacht party is smooth sailing.

Understanding What a Yacht Party Entails

A yacht party is more than just a gathering at sea. It’s a chance to escape the ordinary and immerse yourself in a unique, luxurious setting. With the ocean as your backdrop and the sky as your ceiling, a yacht party offers unparalleled freedom and exclusivity. Whether it’s a birthday party, corporate event, or simply a gathering of friends, a yacht party can be a perfect setting for a memorable event.

There are many elements involved that differ from planning a regular party. For example , you must consider factors such as marine safety, yacht size and capacity, weather conditions, and, in some cases, maritime laws. Proper planning ensures a memorable experience for your guests and allows you to handle unforeseen circumstances.

The Planning Stage

The initial planning phase is crucial for a successful yacht party. This process involves several critical decisions that can shape your event.

A. Setting the Budget

Just like any event, a yacht party begins with setting a budget. Your budget will dictate the size of the yacht, the type of food and drinks, the decor, and the entertainment. Factors that come into play include the yacht rental cost, catering services, DJ or live music, decorations, and insurance coverage.

Once you have a clear idea of these costs, you can balance your budget, making necessary adjustments to ensure you spend your money wisely. Remember, a memorable yacht party doesn’t necessarily mean an extravagant one; it’s all about meticulous planning and intelligent spending.

B. Choosing the Right Yacht

The yacht is the centerpiece of your party. Factors such as the number of guests, event type, and budget will guide your choice. Do you want a sporty, fast yacht for a small gathering or a large, luxurious one for a bigger crowd?

Yacht rental companies usually have a wide variety of options. Consider involving professionals in your selection process to ensure the yacht meets your needs and complies with safety standards.

C. Setting the Date and Time

Choosing the date and time of your event involves more than just your personal preference. You’ll also need to consider the local weather and sea conditions. The time of day can also affect the atmosphere of your event.

A sunset cruise, for instance, could provide a stunning backdrop for a more romantic or laid-back party. Always have a backup plan in case of unexpected weather changes; your yacht rental company can often guide you on this.

The Invitation Essentials

There are a few “ must haves ” for a party like this including:

An Appealing Guest List

A yacht party is typically an intimate event due to the limited space, so consider who you’d like to invite. Curate a guest list that will create a harmonious and enjoyable atmosphere. A good mix of family, close friends, and colleagues works well.

Deciding on the Appropriate Number of Guests

The number of guests is equally as crucial to your yacht choice. Consider the yacht’s capacity when deciding on your guest list. An overcrowded boat can quickly become uncomfortable and could pose safety risks.

Designing and Sending out Invitations

Once you’ve settled on your guest list, it’s time to send out invitations. As this is a “event”, consider adding a touch of maritime flair to your invitations to build excitement. You can also use the invitation to inform your guests about the dress code, expected weather, and any activities you have planned.

RSVP follow-up process

It’s essential to have a precise count of who will be attending, so make sure you request RSVPs on your invitations and follow up with any guests you have yet to hear from as the date approaches.

Themes and Decorations

Choosing a theme adds a fun element and provides a guide for your decorations, food choices, and even the dress code. A well-chosen piece can tie everything together and make your party more memorable.

Some popular themes include tropical luau , nautical, white party, and old Hollywood glamour. When choosing a theme, consider what fits your style and would appeal to your guests.

Sourcing and Setting Up Decorations

Once you’ve chosen a theme, you can start sourcing decorations. While the yacht is already quite a spectacle, adding thoughtful decor can elevate the ambiance. Consider table decorations, lighting effects, and a focal point such as a decorated archway or photo backdrop. Check with your yacht rental company about any restrictions for setting up decorations.

Food and Drink

Food and drink are at the heart of any party. When planning your menu, consider the duration of the party, the time of day, and your guests’ dietary preferences and restrictions. For a yacht party, it’s typically best to serve dishes that can be enjoyed while mingling, such as finger foods or a buffet.

While hiring a caterer can ease a lot of stress, it might only fit into some budgets. If you decide to take care of the food yourself, plan dishes that can be prepared beforehand to minimize stress on the day of the party.

The Role of a Professional Caterer

A professional caterer can provide expert advice on menu choices, handle all prep work, and maintain food safety. Some caterers even offer serving staff to take care of your guests during the party.

Decide if you will offer an open bar, a cash bar, or a combination. An open bar, while more generous, will increase your costs. A cash bar, where guests pay for their drinks, can help keep your budget under control. Consider a combination approach, such as offering a selection of free drinks and charging for premium beverages.

Entertainment plays a crucial role in setting the tone of the event—options for entertainment range from live music and DJs to interactive games. You could also consider a dance floor if space permits. Creating a playlist of background music for a more relaxed event might be all you need.

If you’re considering hiring a DJ or a live band, consider the space available on the yacht and your guests’ musical preferences. You’ll also need to check with the yacht company regarding any sound restrictions or requirements for power sources.

Games can be a great icebreaker, especially if all your guests don’t know each other. Ensure any games you plan are suitable for the yacht environment and won’t pose any safety risks. You could also consider other interactive activities, like a photo booth with props, or even hiring a magician or other entertainer for some onboard amusement.

Safety Precautions: Be Safe Onboard

While a yacht party is all about fun, it’s vital to recognize safety. Ensure that the yacht is equipped with enough life vests for everyone and that the crew is prepared to handle emergencies. Sharing safety information with your guests before setting sail is also a good idea.

General Safety Guidelines

Some general safety guidelines include not overloading the yacht, avoiding risky behavior like pushing people into the water, and being cautious with alcohol consumption to prevent accidents. If children are present, consider having extra supervision to ensure they stay safe.

Dealing with Seasickness and Other Potential Health Concerns

Even if the weather looks calm, guests may still experience seasickness. It’s a good idea to have seasickness remedies available. Also, if your party lasts for several hours, ensure there’s a space where guests can rest if they’re feeling unwell. Keep a first aid kit handy, and remember to cater to any special dietary needs to prevent allergic reactions or other food-related issues.

A. Critical Dos to Ensure a Memorable Yacht Party

  • Do communicate effectively with your guests about the event details, including the dress code, potential weather conditions, and any other relevant information.
  • Ensure your guests know where the safety equipment is stored and understand the basic safety rules. Do have a backup plan in case of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Ensure your guests have enough food, drinks, and amenities like clean restrooms and shaded areas.
  • Remember to respect the maritime laws and regulations, and remind your guests to do the same.

B. Crucial Don’ts to Avoid Mishaps and Discomfort

  • Don’t overcrowd the yacht; ensure you’re within the capacity limit for a comfortable and safe event.
  • Don’t ignore the your guests needs and preferences, especially concerning food allergies or dietary restrictions. Their comfort is important.
  • Don’t forget to clean up after the party. Leave the yacht as you found it out of respect for the company and the environment.

Get to Planning!

Planning a yacht party may require significant work and attention to detail, but the result is well worth it. With the sound of the waves as your soundtrack and the open sea as your backdrop, it can be a unique and unforgettable experience. Following these guidelines ensures a smooth and enjoyable time that your guests will remember for years.

So, take the helm and start planning your perfect yacht party!

Remember, a successful event is not just about impeccable planning but also about your ability to adapt and handle unforeseen circumstances gracefully. So keep a positive attitude, embrace any surprises along the way, and remember to enjoy the party too. You’ve earned it!

Happy sailing!

5-Star Boat Cruises in Washington, DC

I went on a beautiful sunset cruise for a fundraiser. Saw the National Mall from the Potomac at night, it was stunning! The crew members were polite and courteous. The boat docked with a large party group before our group and you would never have known there was another group on 5 minutes before because the boat was spotless.

Wondering what to do when you have friends in town? Boomerang Cruises! After a day of museums, and typical D.C. attractions, treat yourself! On the last trip, my friends had the best time enjoying cocktails, music, and an awesome view on the Potomac. Don't forget to ask the bartenders about the "Shot Ski!" It is a game-changer. Thank me later.

I love going on the Boomerang Party Yacht. The staff is always friendly and helpful! The drinks are amazing! I would highly recommend for any event, we have been on for birthdays, going away parties, celebrations and just for a fun night out. The sunset cruises are highly recommended. Perfect views of the city and fun all around. Great way to meet new people in the area or have a fun night out in DC if you are visiting.

My twin sister and I chose the Boomerang Party Yacht to celebrate our 25th birthday! We had so much fun with our friends. It wasn't too crowded, nice views and the drinks were great. The staff was nice and funny. We had fun doing the limbo. I highly recommend the sunset cruise. Great to see DC in the evening and night. Book ahead because they do sell out!

I have been on the Boomerang Yacht's day, night, sunset, and brunch cruises with friends and it never disappoints! Great crew, bartenders, atmosphere, and views of DC. I have been in DC for almost 5 years and I always re-appreciate how great it is on these cruises- especially in the springtime. Highly recommend for anyone visiting or who lives in the area!

You get the experience of a spring break vacation on a beach with other college kids and plenty of drinks without having to worry about paying separate charges for the food, drinks, transportation, or lodging. It was exactly what I wanted it to be and more. ”

Rochester Institute of Technology

“ The staff was super helpful from the very beginning of the planning process all the way through the week of the cruise. Completely hassle-free experience as there is all inclusive food and drinks on the boat as well as on the island stop in CocoCay. The food in the dining room was great, and the service couldn’t have been better (You can order an unlimited amount of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks there too!!). There was so much to do during the day and night (plus the casino was open until 3am!) I only wish we could have stayed longer!  ”

Penn State University

“100% the best spring break trip of all time! no need to worry about budgeting for taxi’s, ubers, sketchy hotels, or drinks at weird/overpriced bars. No dealing with beaches that ban drinking! just beautiful cabins, amazing people, accommodating staff, free gourmet food at any hour, and available drink packages. i’ll go every year until i graduate… then probably once more 🙂 ”

Ohio University

“Having an inclusive food and drink package, I didn’t have to worry about expenses or carrying my wallet around. Not a moment was dull while we were both on and off the cruise. Usually, when you go on spring break with a big group, something is bound to go wrong in some way. However, the service and experience were outstanding that we didn’t face any problems.”

Ferris State University

“There was so much to do each day and when going with a big group it was awesome that everyone could split up and do different things without being too far from each other as it would be if you were at a resort and had to leave to find things to do…”

PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

“The whole cruise was great. We enjoyed all of the events on and off the ship. The staff throughout was always helpful, we had an issue where our room had one king size bed instead of 2 full and they made sure that it was taken care of in a timely manner. The DJ’s were a lot of fun and got the crowd going…”

OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

“There was usually something to do not only with CPC events but the cruise itself. The poolside parties and nightclubs were really fun. The all inclusive food was incredible.”

Duke University

“Although you pay upfront, overall CPC is cheaper than a typical spring break at a destination. I spent the last two breaks in Ft. Lauderdale and the cruise being all inclusive saved me a lot of money. The cruise was so much fun and relaxing; the perfect mix between partying on spring break and also being able to relax when needed.”

Swan Boat Club crash suspect Marshella Chidester's BAC was more than double legal limit

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Marshella Chidester, the driver who crashed into the Swan Boat Club and killed two children in April, had a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit in Michigan.

Chidester's BAC was .18 at the time of the April 20 crash at the Monroe County boat club, according to blood test results read in court Thursday.

Cameras from both outside and inside captured Chidester, 66, barreling through the building, where a children's birthday party was being held. The crash killed 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 5-year-old Zayn Phillips and left more than a dozen other people hurt.

Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Steven Schmidt testified that Chidester failed several field sobriety tests. She was not able to count backward from 100, and she couldn't focus on his finger, but she was able to recite the alphabet. Schmidt testified that she couldn't maintain her balance and had watery, bloodshot eyes. He also said he could smell intoxicants on her.

After the crash, Chidester told deputies that she had drunk some wine earlier in the day. She also said that she has seizures and takes medication for the condition.

"I thought I was driving up to the boat club, and evidently I was driving right into the building," she told a deputy while being questioned after the crash.

Video from security cameras at Chidester's home, which is next to the club, showed her slowly walking out of her house and backing into another vehicle just before crashing into the building.

During her arraignment in April, before the BAC was released, her attorney Bill Colovos argued that she was not drunk. According to Colovos, Chidester has been suffering from seizures since November, takes medication for the condition, and needed to stop driving for several months in the fall due to seizures.

In court Thursday, deputy bodycam video showed Chidester saying that she last had a seizure the month before the crash and was hospitalized for several days.

Chidester was bound over for trial on all charges.

Top Tory James Cleverly rants about Banksy boat as he calls Glastonbury stunt 'vile'

James Cleverly claimed the migrant boat, which appeared in the crowd at Glastonbury and was later revealed to be a Banksy, was 'a celebration of the loss of life in the Channel'

James Cleverly has slammed the Banksy migrant boat at Glastonbury as 'vile' in a furious on-air rant.

An inflatable boat mock-up featuring dummies of migrants was released into the festival crowd at the weekend during a performance by rock band Idles. The Tory Home Secretary claimed today that the small boat artwork was "a celebration of the loss of life in the Channel".

Idles said the demonstration was devised by Banksy and they were not aware it had happened until after the set had finished. Later images taken on Saturday showed the artwork returning for Little Simz’ Pyramid Stage slot.

Criticising the Banksy piece this morning, he told Sky News: "There are a bunch of people there joking and celebrating about criminal actions which costs lives, people die. People die in the Mediterranean, they die in the channel. This is not funny. It is vile. It is a celebration of the loss of life in the channel."

Asked if the boat could have been a commentary on the Conservatives' failure to stop the boats despite their repeated pledges to do so, he said: "Our ability to sort that problem out has been hampered every stage by the Labour Party who aspire to border control. They know that had they supported us, they voted over 130 times to prevent us taking greater control of our borders, the hypocrisy of the left on this issue is breathtaking and to joke about it, to celebrate it at a pop festival when there have been children dying in the channel is completely unacceptable."

Labour's Jonathan Ashworth was also asked on the Sky News breakfast show about the Banksy boat, and outlined Labour's plans to smash the smuggling gangs. He said: "I'll make a broader point, in that we've clearly got to stop this vile trade in smuggling people across the Channel. Labour's got a really detailed plan to do that, a proper cross-border security force to really go after these gangs.

"We're going to use terrorist-style laws to really go after them, because it's not working at the moment. I think since Rishi Sunak made his big promise we've had 50,000 people cross the Channel - we've got to fix this, we've got to go after these awful gangs that are smuggling people and we've got a plan to do that." He also described the Tories' Rwanda plan as a "gimmick" and criticised the millions already spent on the scheme, saying it would be "cheaper to put up people in the Ritz in Paris".

Justin timberlake's arresting officer enjoys boat party, not sweating publicity, justin timberlake days after dwi bust ... arresting officer boats it up w/pals.

The rookie cop who arrested Justin Timberlake for DWI is soaking up summer in the Hamptons ... and doesn't seem the least bit concerned by his newfound fame.

Michael Arkinson -- the Sag Harbor police officer who pulled over Justin and took him to jail -- spent his Sunday Funday on a boat, about an hour north of where he busted JT. If you didn't know, he and his partner, Otis , are cited in the police report as the arresting officers ... but Mike's getting credit as the guy who brought Justin in for booking.

Anyway ... check out these photos/videos, obtained by TMZ, showing a sometimes shirtless Arkinson sitting in a power boat docked at a restaurant in Greenport, NY over the weekend.

Folks who were there tell us Arkinson was eating and drinking at Claudio's Waterfront ... and kept a relatively low profile in the wake of his big bust, although it doesn't looks like he was trying to hide here. Dude's just out living life ... undeterred by all the attention he got in the wake of last week's arrest of Justin.

Arkinson, we're told, was hanging with a handful of buddies -- and they spent a few hours at the seafood spot before heading back to their boat.

The guy's already well-known around Sag Harbor. Locals told media outlets he's a bit of a traffic stickler, and now he's even more in the spotlight -- a local celeb of sorts, if you will.

Based on what we're seeing here though, Arkinson's not too bashful ... and it looks like he knows how to have a good time on Long Island, even after his name's been blown up in the media this past week.

Don't expect to see Arkinson's body cam of his interaction with Justin anytime soon, though -- as we first reported, Sag Harbor PD is not releasing the footage ... at least not until their investigation wraps.

In the meantime, Justin's continuing his world tour ... and Arkinson's taking full advantage of having friends with a boat.

Ya gotta imagine the convos he's having lately -- something tells us they all start with the same question, about the same suspect.

Michigan woman to stand trial in crash that killed young brother and sister at birthday party

A Michigan woman has been ordered to stand trial in a crash that killed two siblings and injured several other people who were at a boat club to celebrate a child’s birthday

A Michigan woman has been ordered to stand trial in a crash that killed two siblings and injured several other people who were at a boat club to celebrate a child's birthday.

Marshella Chidester, 66, was bound over Thursday to Monroe County Circuit Court on two counts of second-degree murder and other charges in the April 20 crash at the Swan Boat Club in Berlin Township, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Detroit.

Authorities have said Chidester was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. A deputy testified Thursday during Chidester's preliminary examination in Monroe County District Court that a blood test at a hospital after the crash revealed her blood alcohol content was 0.18. The legal limit in Michigan for operating a vehicle is 0.08.

Deputies said Chidester told them she was headed to a birthday party at the boat club. She told one deputy that she had “passed out” while driving.

Surveillance video played Thursday showed a SUV barreling along an unpaved road leading to the boat club, then crashing into the building. After authorities arrived, police bodycam video showed the SUV stopped against a counter or wall as several injured people were being treated by first responders.

Monroe County sheriff's deputy Steven Schmidt testified that the scene was chaotic. “There were injured people everywhere,” he said, adding that a small child who appeared not to be breathing was on the ground.

Killed were 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and her 4-year-old brother, Zayn Phillips. Their mother, Mariah Dodds, and another sibling were among the injured.

Dodd testified that the party was for the 3-year-old child of a friend.

Defense attorney Bill Colovos argued against the second-degree murder charges, saying there was no testimony that Chidester operated her vehicle with intent to cause the deaths.

He said during Chidester’s arraignment in April that she only had a glass of wine and a bowl of chili four hours before the crash, and that she has suffered since November with “epileptic-type seizures in her legs.”

Prosecutor Jeff Yorkey argued at Chidester’s arraignment that she has had substance abuse issues that were corroborated by her friends and family. Yorkey also said there was no indication that Chidester suffered a seizure before the crash.

Home surveillance video recorded just prior to the crash and played in court Thursday showed Chidester holding a railing and going step-by-step from her porch, then walking slowly to her SUV, which was parked next to a garage. As she backed out from the driveway, the SUV sped in reverse around the opposite side of the garage and slammed into a neighbor's parked vehicle. The SUV then accelerated forward, past the garage, driveway and down the road.

Detective Sgt. Jeff Hooper testified that Chidester's home is about 500 feet from the boat club near Lake Erie.

Chidester's circuit court arraignment is scheduled for July 12.

Alleged ‘super drunk’ driver in boat club crash had BAC level more than twice the legal limit

  • Updated: Jun. 27, 2024, 11:05 p.m. |

Editor’s note: The judge bound the case over and Marshella Chidester will stand trial on all charges.

MONROE COUNTY, MI -- Several new details have come to light involving the woman accused of allegedly killing two children and injuring several more by driving into the Swan Creek Boat Club in April. During a preliminary examination Thursday prosecutors presented several new pieces of information regarding Marshella Chidester’s actions prior to the crash and her interactions with police following.

Among the newly released pieces of information are details regarding:

  • Chidester’s blood-alcohol-content level being more than double the legal limit.
  • Security footage showing Chidester hitting a parked car while backing out of her driveway.
  • Chidester telling police that she’d drunk wine 30 minutes prior to the crash.
  • Chidester telling an officer “I wouldn’t want to drive,” when asked if she thought she was OK to drive.

Chidester, 66, is charged with multiple felonies in connection with the crash, including two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips.

A child’s birthday party was taking place inside the boat club when Chidester drove her SUV through a wall, hitting multiple people before ultimately stopping approximately 25 feet inside the facility.

Blood test results read in court showed Chidester had a blood-alcohol-content level at the time of the crash was more than double the legal limit. The blood test was conducted shortly after the and revealed Chidester’s BAC was .18, which is higher than Michigan’s legal limit of .08. In Michigan, anyone with a BAC over .17 is considered “super drunk.”

Chidester and her attorney Bill Colovos claim that she suffered a seizure prior to the crash , which caused her to drive into the building near her house. During an exam in April, Colovos argued that his client only had one glass of wine at lunch prior to the crash and that a receipt from a nearby tavern proved she only ordered one glass.

Related story: More victims in fatal boat club crash join lawsuit, multiple defendants named

However, body camera and security footage showed in court Thursday, along with testimony from responding officers casts doubt on those claims. Footage taken from a security camera across the street from Chidester’s home shows her backing out of her driveway and hitting a vehicle parked next door before speeding away. Soon after, Chidester would drive into the boat club.

Body camera footage taken by responding officers shows Chidester telling an officer that she had been drinking wine earlier in the day and that her last drink was about 30 minutes prior to the crash. Other body cam video shows Chidester speaking with a deputy about what happened prior to the crash.

“I pulled into the parking lot and I thought I was driving up to the boat club and evidently I was driving right into the building,” Chidester told the deputy.

When the deputy asked what happened when she got to the parking lot, Chidester replied “I don’t remember.” When the deputy asked if there is a reason why she doesn’t remember, Chidester mentioned her seizures but clarified that she had been cleared to drive. Chidester also told police that she had a seizure the month prior to the crash and had been hospitalized for it.

Later in the same body cam video, the deputy had the following exchange with Chidester:

Deputy : On a scale of 0-10, zero being like you’re stone-cold sober, you can drive perfectly, 10 being you’re passed out drunk, where do you think you’re at right now?

Chidester : A seven.

Deputy : Do you think you’re OK to drive?

Chidester : I wouldn’t want to drive.

Deputy : You wouldn’t let you drive?

Chidster : No.

During the morning proceedings, Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Schmidt was called to the stand and testified that he conducted multiple field sobriety tests on Chidester. Schmidt said Chidester was unable to complete multiple tests, but was able to recite the alphabet.

Schmidt further testified that he could smell intoxicants on Chidester’s person and that she was unable to maintain her balance, while also exhibiting bloodshot and watery eyes.

Thursday’s preliminary examination is being held to determine if there is enough evidence for the case to be bound over to circuit court. The exam was previously delayed by two months as Colovos argued that he needed more time to examine the discovery in the case.

Along with the murder charges, Chidester has been charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death and four counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.

Chidester is currently free on a $1.5 million bond she posted in April. As part of the conditions of her bond, she is required to wear a GPS tether and must refrain from using alcohol or any illegal controlled substances.

Home surveillance video recorded just prior to the crash and played in court Thursday showed Chidester holding a railing and going step-by-step from her porch, then walking slowly to her SUV, which was parked next to a garage. As she backed out from the driveway, the SUV sped in reverse around the opposite side of the garage and slammed into a neighbor’s parked vehicle. The SUV then accelerated forward, past the garage, driveway and down the road.

Detective Sgt. Jeff Hooper testified that Chidester’s home is about 500 feet from the boat club near Lake Erie.

Chidester’s circuit court arraignment is scheduled for July 12.
