For three years, a sleek 21-meter yacht moored in Porto Montenegro, an exclusive marina on the Balkan nation’s Adriatic coast. But documents obtained by OCCRP suggest that the boat was more than just a pleasure cruiser for the rich: It was a vessel for moving money of dubious origin via inflated yacht rental fees.

Between 2010 and 2012, Asti Services Ltd, the Belize-registered company that owned the yacht, paid moorage fees to the Montenegrin marina, which advertises itself as a “yachting paradise.” Over that period, the company reported receiving yacht rental payments of 3.1 million euros (US$4.2 million) from two British Virgin Islands (BVI) companies whose beneficial owner was a key organizer of the infamous Magnitsky tax fraud in Russia.

A separate set of payments Asti made to purchase yacht insurance strongly suggest that the yacht in question is the Crystal Princess, a 21-meter, four-cabin cruiser. The sum Asti reported collecting in rent was considerably more than the amount similar vessels yield in Montenegro, raising questions about the nature of the transactions.

Asti’s yacht income shows up in records leaked from Ukio Bankas, a now-defunct Lithuanian bank that was a key cog in a scheme dubbed the Troika Laundromat . The Laundromat enabled Russian elites to move money out of the country, spend lavishly on luxury goods, and sometimes launder funds, hide assets, or evade taxes. From 2006 through 2013, the system shuffled $4.6 billion through a network of shell companies set up by Troika Dialog, a Russian investment bank.

An additional 1.1 million euros (US$1.5 million) Asti spent to buy a four-story apartment building in the Montenegrin coastal resort of Djenovici is also recorded in the Ukio Bankas leak.

The money for the building came from the illicit proceeds of the Magnitsky affair, according to Bill Browder, an American-born financier who once made large investments in Russia. Browder was spurred to become a vocal opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin and an anti-corruption activist when his tax lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, died in prison after exposing the theft.

Browder showed reporters copies of detailed evidence he submitted to Montenegrin prosecutors about Asti’s apartment building purchase in 2017. Neither the country’s supreme state prosecutor, Ivica Stankovic, nor the chief special prosecutor, Milivoje Katnic, took action after receiving his complaint, he said.

Taken together, the yacht rental payments and the building purchase show how millions of dollars of dubious — and in some cases definitely criminal — Russian origin found their way into a country seeking to join the European Union.

Montenegro is required to crack down on organized crime and money laundering as a condition of joining the bloc, a process it began in 2012. In March, the EU gave the country until the end of 2019 to do more on tax transparency or face blacklisting.

“This is not the conduct one would expect of an aspiring EU member state,” Browder said in reference to the payments. “Many people seem to be enjoying the blood money and this new information is just one more example.”

A public relations officer at the supreme state prosecutor’s office told OCCRP to contact Stankovic directly. He didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Locals in Djenovici said they didn’t know who owns the Asti Services building, which is just a short distance from the beach. Its apartments are rented out to vacationers who come and go, they said.

Several locals in the former fishing village also said they assume the building is owned by Russians — and they’re right. Documents and business associates of Asti Services indicate that the widow of a deceased Russian lawmaker and former FSB officer is behind the company.

The Tangled Web

The chain of evidence that connects funds from the Magnitsky affair with yacht rental and a holiday apartment building in Montenegro involves a complex web of corporate and personal relationships among a half dozen people.

It all starts with Dmitry Klyuev, a banker who was convicted of fraud in Russia in 2006 and sanctioned by the United States in 2014 for being the “mastermind” of the massive scheme exposed by Magnitsky to defraud the Russian government of unearned tax refunds.

Among his varied corporate entities, Klyuev was the beneficial owner of Altem Invest Ltd. and Zibar Management Inc., both registered in the BVI. These were the two companies that, from March 2010 to April 2011, paid Asti Services the 3.1 million euro “yacht rent” it reported in income.

The payments were made from bank accounts the Klyuev companies held at FBME Bank in Cyprus, which lost its banking licences in 2015 after U.S. authorities said they had found evidence of money laundering .

There is more evidence that points to connections between those behind Asti and the Magnitsky fraud organizer.

In 2008, the year of its incorporation, Asti Services purchased the Crystal Princess from Terra Trade & Consulting GmbH, a company owned by German national Hendrik Szymanski. Representing Asti Services in the deal was Evgeny Senokosov, who has provided services to Klyuev as well.

FBME banking documents for the two Klyuev companies, Altem Invest and Zibar Management, show that from February to July 2011 they wired $94,040 to Senokosov’s account at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi as payment for travel expenses.

Senokosov couldn’t be located. Szymanski declined to comment.

In November 2010, Asti Services bought the apartment building in Djenovici in a deal Senokosov also negotiated. Andrei Gorin, a Russian entrepreneur who sold the building to Asti through his property development company GALS d.o.o., confirmed that Senokosov represented Asti but said there was nothing untoward about the deal.

“All our documents have been checked with local authorities and we have nothing to hide,” Gorin said about the sale of the building in his company’s beachfront community, Village Gals. “All our business is very clean and very honest.”

Official records from Belize, one of the 15 jurisdictions the EU blacklisted in March citing lack of cooperation in tax transparency, don’t show who owns companies such as Asti Services. Its registered agent, CCS Trust Ltd., declined comment.

A Duma Connection

However, two people who did business with the company told OCCRP that its beneficial owner is Oxana Stalmakhova, the widow of a former member of the Russian Duma.

The two sources, who know Stalmakhova personally, are not named out of concern for their safety.

A tangled trail of corporate ownership and business relationships ties Stalmakhova to the yacht, to Asti Services and to Dmitry Klyuev. It also suggests that she became the company’s beneficiary after the death of her husband, Vladimir Stalmakhov.

To start with, Ukios Bankas records show that, when Asti Services registered the Crystal Princess in the Cook Islands, it did so using the services of the UK-based Blue Ensign Ltd . That company’s invoice for the job offers an important clue to Asti Services’ background, listing its address at Schosse Entuziastov 38, a five-story building in Moscow’s eastern suburbs.

Another notable tenant of the building was NPO Kosmos, once one of Russia’s largest construction companies.

Kosmos liquidated in 2015 after its chairman, Andrey Chernyakov, allegedly misappropriated large sums from a bank loan unrelated to the Troika Laundromat or the fraud discovered by Magnitsky. Chernyakov was arrested in Poland in 2017 but fought extradition to Russia. It’s unclear where he is now.

Beyond the Moscow address, Chernyakov is linked to the owner of Asti Services and to the Crystal Princess through two former business associates. He and Hendrik Szymanski, the German whose company sold the yacht to Asti, were partners in Cewimex GmbH, another liquidated company that dealt in silicon intermediary products and construction equipment.

Chernyakov also had multiple ties to the late Vladimir Stalmakhov, Oxana’s husband. A former FSB officer and majority shareholder in the security company Baikal, Stalmakhov was elected to the Duma in 2003 as a member of Putin’s United Russia party. That same year, Stalmakhov became vice chairman for economic security at Kosmos.

Stalmakhov and Chernyakov were also partners in the Yacht Club Patriot, north of Moscow, as well as in the now-defunct Commercial Bank Kutuzovsky. Another bank partner, board chairman Oleg Novoselsky, disappeared in 2005. His body was found in a barrel at the bottom of the Moscow Canal a decade later.

Stalmakhov died in July 2011 of an undisclosed “serious illness” at age 41, according to a Duma announcement . Business records show his widow is no stranger to Asti’s regular representative, Evgeny Senokosov.

Until March 2012, Senokosov was the only shareholder and director of a real estate management company, Basti s.r.o., based in Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic. Basti company records show that Oxana Stalmakhova replaced Senokosov as sole shareholder and director in 2012. The company was liquidated in July 2018.

Meanwhile, photos posted in July 2014 by a Stalmakhova family member on VKontakte, a Russian social media site, show views of the Bay of Kotor from the Djenovici apartment building.

Stalmakhova didn’t respond to messages asking for comment. Contacted by telephone, she immediately hung up.

Vier tote nach untergang von segelboot vor portugal.

Mindestens drei der Opfer beim Untergang eines Segelbootes vor der Küste von Portugal seien Dänen, wurde der Sprecher der Nationalen Schifffahrtsbehörde (MNA), José Sousa Luís, von der Nachrichtenagentur Lusa zitiert. Eine männliche Leiche müsse noch identifiziert werden.

Der Unfall des dänischen Bootes habe sich am Freitag etwa einen Kilometer vom Formosa-Strand entfernt ereignet – in Torres Vedras, rund 60 Kilometer nordwestlich von Lissabon. Die Rettungskräfte hatten am Freitagnachmittag zunächst drei Opfer geborgen – zwei Männer und eine Frau.

Raue See mit hohen Wellen

Bei der Bergung des gekenterten Segelbootes sei einige Zeit später im Inneren die Leiche einer weiteren Frau gefunden worden, erklärte Sousa Luís gegenüber Lusa. Zum Zeitpunkt des Unglücks herrschte nach Angaben der zuständigen Behörden raue See mit hohen Wellen und heftigem Wind.

Drei der Opfer waren amtlichen Angaben zufolge am Freitagnachmittag ohne Rettungsweste und mit Herzstillstand an den Strand gespült worden. Sofort eingeleitete Wiederbelebungsversuche seien erfolglos geblieben, hiess es. Das Alter und weitere Informationen zu den Opfern wurden zunächst nicht bekannt.

Vier Tote bei Segelunfall in Portugal

Schlimmer Unfall an der portugiesischen Küste, dem Bericht nach wurden keine Rettungswesten getragen.

Der Unfall ist bedauerlich. Ob Rettungswesten die Toten verhindert hätte, wissen wir nicht. Aber sie hätte sicher nicht geschadet.

Die grundlegende Frage ist: Warum war die Yacht bei dem zur Zeit des Unglücks herrschenden Bedingungen so nahe unter Lande unterwegs? Die Yacht war bei dem Sturm und den daraus resultierenden Wellenhöhen mit Sicherheit im Bereich der Grundseen und brechenden Wellen unterwegs. Die Häfen an der portugiesischen Küste waren, aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach, weitgehend gesperrt.

Es bleibt nur neben dem Tragen der Rettungswesten, auf die besonderen Gefahren von Leeküsten im Sturm, die Gefährlichkeit von Grundseen und brechenden Wellen zu sensibilisieren, damit hoffentlich weitere Unfälle vermieden werden. Die Entscheidung zum Anlaufen von Küsten und Häfen bei diesen Bedingungen sollte sorgfältig abgewogen werden.

Evtl. wollte man auf der 20m Linie wegen der Orca's bleiben.

Es ist/war eine Legerwallsituation mit mächtig Wind und Wellen. Die Wassertiefe fällt sehr schnell ab.

Ich finde auf dem Bild im Spiegel sieht das Ruderblatt auch angeschlagen aus. Wenn das so ist, wird das eher vor der Kenterung passiert sein.

Was hier so alles aus einem einzelnen Bild herausgelesen wird...

Kiel und Ruder können einfach nach eintreffen des Bootes in der Brandung abgeschoren sein. Das war hier bei der Sturmflut ja auch so, dass eigentich fast alle Boote, die ich an Land oder auf den Stegen gesehen habe keine Ruderblättäer mehr hatten... wenn man so ein Schiff auf dem harten Grund/Sand raufknallt, was die Wellen ja tun, dann braucht man vorher draußen nicht gekentert sein, und da muss auch kein Orca reingebissen haben, das Zeug das da fehlt steckt vielleicht auch einfach irgendwo im Strand...

Der Bericht gibt leider nicht viel her außer das sie nah unter Land unterwegs waren , vielleicht wegen der Orca Gefahr die dort herrscht, könnte eine nahe liegende Vermutung sein. Da kann man natürlich schnell in eine brechende See kommen und das kann dann einen solchen Ausgang haben. Die Landnähe ist nur durch zwei Verhaltensweisen denkbar, Leichtsinn oder mit Vorsatz wegen der Orca Gefahr. In beiden Fällen ein tödlicher Fehler.

Und wieso sollte im Bootsinneren eine Tote sein wenn das Boot NICHT gekentert ist weil es verm. den Kiel verloren hat im tiefen Wasser wo der Unfall passiert ist?

Der Tod von vier dänischen Staatsbürgern wurde am Samstag im Zusammenhang mit dem Untergang eines Segelboots während eines heftigen Sturms am Freitag vor der Küste Portugals bestätigt.

Das Außenministerium gibt bekannt, dass in Portugal vier Dänen gestorben sind.

Das Segelboot kenterte am Freitag etwa einen Kilometer vor der Küste Portugals.

Das Boot wurde anschließend an einem Strand von Santa Cruz etwas nördlich von Lissabon angespült und am Freitagabend wieder aufgetaucht.

Erste Berichte über den Unfall kamen von den portugiesischen Behörden an die Nachrichtenagentur Lusa.

In der Nähe des Bootes wurden vier Tote gefunden, zwei Männer und zwei Frauen.

Am Samstag teilte das Außenministerium in einer E-Mail mit, dass es in dem Fall Hilfe leistet, aber keine weiteren Informationen liefern kann.

Ursprünglich wurden drei Menschen als tot gemeldet, doch im Zusammenhang mit der Untersuchung des Bootes und den Bergungsarbeiten wurde nach Angaben der portugiesischen Behörden ein weiterer Toter gefunden.

Das Segelboot stach am Freitagmorgen von einem Hafen in der Stadt Peniche aus in See.

Doch um 11.08 Uhr ertönte vom Boot aus ein Alarm, so die Behörden, woraufhin ein Rettungsboot und ein Hubschrauber aktiviert wurden.

Wieder ein wirklich tragischer Unfall.

im Spiegel Bericht steht, daß Wiederbelebungsversuche gemacht wurden, allerdings erfolglos. So dicht unter Land hätten ihnen die Rettungswesten vielleicht das Leben gerettet.

Das ist das einzige, was wir sicher beurteilen können. Und hier werden mal wieder Vermutungen zum Geschehen, zum Verhalten der Crew usw. geäußert, ohne irgendwelche Fakten zu kennen.

Es ist manchmal (oft/immer?) schwer zu akzeptieren, dass man etwas schlicht nicht weiss, obwohl man großes Interesse hat.. da wird dann gerne mit Vermutungen kompensiert..

Es waren 26 Einsatzkräfte vor Ort, unterstützt von neun Fahrzeugen und einem Luftwaffenhubschrauber, die nach weiteren möglichen Opfern suchten. Das Segelboot wurde von einer Welle getroffen, eine Folge der starken Seeunruhen, die an diesem Freitag registriert wurden. Die Leichen wurden von der Strömung an die Küste gezogen und später von der Stätte entfernt.

Die sind ja quasi in der Brandung unterwegs gewesen.

Orcas: Yacht vor der portugiesischen Küste gesunken. Meldeportal eingerichtet.

Ein erneuter übergriff von orcas führte vor der küste von sines (portugal) zum totalverlust einer segelyacht. segler werden gebeten, vorfälle auf einem portal zu melden..

In den frühen Morgenstunden des 31.Juli 2022 kam es vor der Küste von Sines (Portugal) zu einem neuen Vorfall mit Orcas und einer Segelyacht, dessen Folgen bisher die schwersten sind.  Nachdem die Gruppe Orcas das Segelboot beschädigten, musste die fünfköpfige Crew das Schiff wegen Wassereinbruchs verlassen und in die Rettungsinsel umsteigen. Kurz nach Mitternacht setzte die Crew einen Notruf ab und informierte die Leitstelle über die Orca-Begegnung und Wassereinbruch in der Yacht.

„Die Marine über das Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Lissabon, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kapitän des Hafens von Sines, koordinierte heute Morgen die Rettung von fünf Besatzungsmitgliedern, die sich auf der Rettungsinsel ihres Segelbootes befanden, nachdem es nach einer Interaktion mit Orcas 11 km vor der Küste gesunken war“. Zu Hilfe kam den Havaristen ein Fischereifahrzeug, welches sich in der Nähe befand. Um kurz vor 3 Uhr morgens legte das Fischerboot mit der Crew sicher im Porto de Sines an.

Neues Meldeportal für Übergriffe eingerichtet

Nachdem es eine Weile ruhig geworden war und mancherorts schon die Hoffnung aufkeimte, dass die Vorfälle mit Orcas weniger werden, wird seit Tagen und Wochen erneut über Angriffe in der Region geschrieben. Vor allem in der Facebook Gruppe „Orca-Attack-Iberia“, in der sich mittlerweile über 10.000 Segler aus aller Welt zusammengefunden haben, um die Vorfälle zu diskutieren und zu dokumentieren, häuften sich die Meldungen. Die Cruising Association (CA) und die Groupo Trabajo Orca Atlantica, die das Verhalten der Wale untersucht, haben eine neue Online-Meldeplattform zur Registrierung von Orca-Begegnungen und -Sichtungen entlang der Iberischen Halbinsel eingerichtet. Alle Segler, unabhängig davon, ob sie CA-Mitglieder sind oder nicht, werden gebeten, Informationen zu übermitteln.

Wichtige Verhaltensempfehlungen

Nach den vielen Vorfällen ( hier der Statistikbericht von orcaiberia.org )  in den vergangenen Wochen wurden Verhaltensempfehlungen für Segler zusammengestellt. Vor allem sollen sich die crews ruhig verhalten und das das Boot sofort gestoppt und nicht manövriert werden, um den meeressäugern keine Reize zu setzen. Normally, a bikini-clad video of Nicole Scherzinger would spark a flood of comments about her impeccable physique.

But her latest holiday snaps have caused a different kind of commotion.

The former Pussycat Doll has been slammed as ‘tasteless’ for a recent Instagram post, which features a bizarre video.

Alongside a carousel of holiday snaps, a no-longer-blonde Nicole shared a grainy video of a person on a stretcher carried by emergency workers, which then collapses leaving them to fall to the ground.

The injured person rolls, and the clip then switches to the 46-year-old singer rolling along the seated area of a luxury yacht.

Nicole grabs a glass of wine and holds it up, showing off the surrounding sea and landscape, which is thought to be somewhere off the coast of Portugal.

Her caption read: ‘Knocked out 🫠 vs knockout 😏.’

Some of her friends found the video amusing, with hairdresser Carl Bembridge writing: ‘😂😂😂😂😂 She’s on a roll.’

Robin Thicke, of Blurred Lines fame, sent laughing and heart emojis as TV presenter Nick Ede said: ‘Obsessed queen of rolling ❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🤣’.

However, the majority of commenters did not share this enthusiasm and slammed the former X Factor judge for being insensitive.

‘That is the most tasteless thing I’ve seen in a long time 😮,’ commented Zornica Taskova as Josi wrote: ‘Not nice. Unfollowed.’

Gracirei said: ‘This is really bad taste, why did you do this??😡.’

‘Sorry, but that’s not funny!’ said Erica Daniels, as Danny Dover added: ‘Clearly live in a bubble of privilege.’

Narjes Djemai said: ‘No, but seriously????!!!! Nicole I’m disappointed in you this is really not cool.’

Others defended the star, saying the video format of the injured person falling was just a trend and was ‘funny’.

Seenot : Schon wieder Yacht im Seegatt gekentert

Die DGzRS-Station auf Norderney hatte kurz nach 18 Uhr einen Mayday-Ruf empfangen. Der auf Norderney stationierte Seenotrettungskreuzer “Hans Hackmack” befand sich zu diesem Zeitpunkt für eine Versorgungsfahrt in Norddeich. Er legte sofort ab, berichtet die DGzRS . Das MRCC Bremen hatte den Notruf ebenfalls empfangen und nahm Kontakt mit den Schiffbrüchigen auf.

Mit ihrem Segelboot waren der Mann und die Frau aus den Niederlanden südlich vom Schluchter-Fahrwasser, in dem derzeit eine Fahrwassertonne fehlt, auf eine Sandbank aufgelaufen. Ihr Boot wurde daraufhin von der Brandung überspült.

Ein in der Nähe befindlicher Fischkutter sowie zwei Frisia-Fähren boten sofort ihre Hilfe an. Die Fahrzeuge hatten jedoch aufgrund ihres Tiefganges keine Möglichkeit, zu dem gestrandeten Schiff zu gelangen und den Schiffbrüchigen zu Hilfe zu kommen.

Der Mann und die Frau ließen ihre Rettungsinsel zu Wasser, die sich im Seegang aber losriss und abtrieb. Inzwischen hatte der Seenotrettungskreuzer den Havaristen bereits im Seegatt entdeckt. Von der Rettungsleitstelle See wurden die beiden Niederländer an Bord aufgefordert, so lange wie möglich auf ihrem gestrandeten Schiff zu bleiben. Dieses hatte sich bereits auf die Seite gelegt.

Von der “ Hans Hackmack ” aus beobachteten die Seenotretter, wie die Schiffbrüchigen wenige Minuten vor ihrem Eintreffen ins Wasser gingen. Trotz der starken Strömung konnten sich die Segler in der Nähe des Wracks im Wasser halten, bis das Tochterboot des Seenotrettungskreuzers bei ihnen eintraf. Das Tochterboot selbst musste in der Brandung auf der Sandbank schwere Grundberührungen aushalten. Es gelang den Seenotrettern dennoch, die Schiffbrüchigen durch die Bergungspforte ins Tochterboot zu ziehen.

An Bord der “Hans Hackmack” versorgten die Seenotretter die beiden mit trockener Kleidung und warmen Getränken. Da die Geretteten unter Schock standen, alarmierten die Seenotretter zur Sicherheit den Rettungsdienst an Land. Im Hafen von Norderney wartete bereits ein Rettungswagen auf die Niederländer.

Mit steigendem Wasser trieb das Wrack wieder auf. Bremen Rescue Radio sendete über Nacht Sicherheitsmeldungen aus, um vor dem treibenden Schifffahrtshindernis zu warnen. Zum Zeitpunkt der Havarie, etwa eine Stunde nach Niedrigwasser, herrschten nördliche Winde mit 3 Beaufort.

Die Wasserschutzpolizei Wilhelmshaven ermittelt nun, wie es zu der Havarie kommen konnte.

Die Kenterung der niederländischen Segler ist nicht der erste Fall einer Havarie im Schluchter-Fahrwasser. Zuletzt hatte dort 2022 eine in Seenot geratene britische Selgerfamilie abgeborgen werden müssen, nachdem ihr Schiff festgekommen und vollgelaufen war. Und auch einen Segler aus Österreich hatte es an nahezu derselben Stelle erwischt.

Wie gefährlich die Seegatten sind, hatte darüber hinaus kürzlich ein Bericht der Bundesstelle für Seeunfalluntersuchung (BSU) gezeigt, die den Fall der im Accumer Ee gekenterten Segelyacht “Silja” aufgearbeitet hatte. Seinerzeit war eines von drei Crewmitgliedern ertrunken. Die BSU hatte in ihrem Bericht auch noch einmal ausdrücklich auf die Gefahren hingewiesen, die es beim Befahren eines Seegatts zu beachten gilt.

Auch die YACHT hat in der Vergangenheit bereits häufiger Empfehlungen gegeben, wie man sicher im Watt und insbesondere zwischen den Seegatten navigiert.

The internal program is organized into three zones: the largest central ‘bubble’ houses an exhibition area with 1:1 apartment models. Branching off this are two smaller ‘bubbles’ with a sales area for managers in one and a relax area, complete with café and playroom for children, in the other.
