When you’re Magic Johnson, a simple European getaway just won’t do. You have to take in the continent by boat.

The NBA legend and entrepreneur is currently enjoying some time cruising around the Mediterranean onboard the Aquila , a 281-foot superyacht . And the Lakers great and his wife Cookie have invited along a star-studded group of pals, including Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J, to join in on the experience.

Magic, who TMZ says likes to spend a month across the Atlantic each summer, has gone all out for his latest vacation. The Aquila is the largest boat built in the US since the 1930s, according to its Burgess charter listing . Originally developed by Derektor in 2010, the vessel sailed under the name Cakewalk until it was sold and completely refitted in 2016. The renewed, four-deck yacht has even more space from which its passengers can gaze upon cities like Corfu, Capri and Cervo, and is perfect for entertaining a one very large man and his family and friends.

The yacht has a massive owner’s suite with a massage room, salon and private deck that overlooks the bow, along with six other spacious guest suites. There’s also a cinema room, gym, two more massage rooms. When it comes time for entertaining, there’s a saloon called the London Bar, a beach club at sea level and a dedicated party deck with its own DJ booth, AV system and smoke machine. The interior’s pièce de résistance, though, is a 36-foot “waterfall” chandelier that stretches from the sun deck to the lower deck.

Other amenities on the Aquila include a limousine tender, a deck jacuzzi, aquapark, trampoline and all the water toys you could ever want (think: jet skis, kayaks and wakeboards). The yacht, which has a 50-foot beam, is also manned by a crew of 28. It’s powered by two 3,306 hp MTU engine and has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.

As you may have guessed, a boat like this doesn’t come cheap. The superyacht is reportedly worth over $150 million . Johnson is only chartering the vessel, but even that will set him back nearly €1 million (or about $1.2 million) a week, according to the listing. One thing is clear: No. 32 loves spending time on the Aquila . In fact, this isn’t his first time he’s rented the vessel. He also took it out on vacation back in 2019, according to TMZ . And honestly, who can blame him?

Inside Magic Johnson’s Six-Week Yacht Voyage: Former NBA Champion Spent a Reported $7.5 Million for the Experience with Family and Friends

Former NBA player Magic Johnson works hard and plays hard. Just a few months before reaching billionaire status, Johnson spent six weeks on a yacht vacation with his wife, Cookie, hosting their friends and family along the way.  

While the voyage was in August, photos of the vacay recently resurfaced. Johnson and his guests stayed aboard the Phoenix 2. The luxury yacht’s charter prices were just under $1.25 million weekly, according to the company website. And for Johnson’s six week journey, it is estimated that he spent $7.5 million.  

Johnson, who has a reported net worth of $1.2 billion, traveled throughout the Mediterranean. Johnson and Cookie began their adventures in Antibes, France, before heading to Italy to visit towns such as Portoffino, Capriccioli, Capri, Positano, Nerano, and Sicily; the Corinth Canal, Mykonos, Oia, Kefalonia, Kalami and Santorini in Greece; and Montenegro before ending the journey in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In total, Johnson was able to visit five countries with 18 members of his inner circle. 

During the trip, Johnson participated in day excursions, staying in San Dominici Palace in Taormina and the Four Seasons hotel in Sicily. And while the nightly charge for these hotel stays were upwards of $1700, it is no comparison to the cost of renting a luxury yacht for six weeks. 

Life on the Yacht 

The seven-cabin yacht includes the primary cabin, which is a split-level apartment. Panoramic views of the ocean coupled with a private terrace are connected by a private stairwell. The yacht’s other cabins are situated on three decks of the ship and are accessible by elevator. 

There’s also three swimming pools, several jacuzzis, a fitness room and wellness center, an indoor and outdoor movie theater, a bar and even a hair salon. 

The yacht also comes ready with a 29-member crew ready to support the needs of guests. 

Johnson’s Experience 

Johnson and Cookie began their journey with some of the former Laker’s celebrity friends. Voyagers included Michael Jordan, Judge Mathis and Samuel L. Jackson and their respective spouses. 

“Tonight we enjoyed an incredible dinner at the world-famous Da Paolino Ristorante aka the lemon tree restaurant in Capri, Italy!” Johnson shared on Instagram.  “AND I got to hang out with my great friend and the greatest basketball player to ever live, Michael Jordan, and his wife Yvette, Sam and LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, and John and Vicki Palmer.”

Crew members made the journey memorable with food and entertainment related to the Mediterranean. 

On one evening, for instance, Johnson and his guests participated in a masquerade party. While in Greece, they experienced a “Greek God and Goddess Extravaganza.” 

Once Johnson’s friends left, his children and grandchildren joined the trip in Italy. 

”Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!” Johnson posted on Instagram.

Magic Johnson and I met at Morgan State University at the Julius Serving Basketball. He is a great person who made an impact in my life He has worked hard to get where he is for himself and his family. Therefore, it is not in good taste to question the way he spends his money with his friends and family.

Magic and his beautiful wife deserve to vacation with their family and friends and that’s the bottom line. None of know the hard work it took for him to live this way. He’s an amazing philanthropist that empowers others to live their best lives. What he’s done after basketball is as amazing as what he did playing basketball

Johnson is considered one of the greatest NBA players of all time, and ever since retiring in 1996, he’s become one of the richest.

Throughout his lengthy NBA career, Magic earned just under $40 million in salary, according to Spotrac . If he was playing today, that number would be closer to $400 million.

After announcing his retirement in 1996, Johnson used his modest NBA earnings as a springboard to historic wealth. He’s become an extremely successful entrepreneur in his second life, as he started Magic Johnson Enterprises and branched out to own various movie theaters, fast food restaurants, health clubs, real estate, and more.

Johnson has also owned parts of the Lakers, Dodgers, Sparks, and LA Football Club in his retired life.

Add it all up, and Johnson is now worth $600 million today, according to Celebrity Net Worth .

Johnson is back on the Mediterranean for his annual summer vacation on the European seas, this time aboard a 281-foot superyacht that costs — wait for it — $1.1 million a week to charter, per TMZ . Johnson likes to spend about a month in Europe with family and friends, so he’s in for a hefty bill by the end of his vacation.

The mega-yacht, which is nicknamed Aquila, is complete with seven bedrooms, a personal gym, a spa, three jet skis, a trampoline, a movie theater, and even its own nightclub.

Accompanying Johnson on his extravagant voyage is his wife, Cookie, Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J, and Rodney Peete, among others.

You might think shelling out $1.1 million a week for a vacation would be a once-in-a-lifetime splurge, but Magic actually makes the trip every year. It started out as a vacation for just Johnson and his wife, but it eventually turned into a full-on party involving his celebrity friends.

The crew now hits the Mediterranean once every summer to explore all of Europe. However, it’s never been more expensive than it is this time around. Johnson and friends chartered the same Aquila superyacht two summers ago, and it cost $950,000 a week.

Apparently, the price has gone up since then, but Johnson couldn’t care less.

Magic Johnson Thanks Yacht Staff for a ‘Tremendous Six Weeks’ as He Wraps Up European Vacation

Magic Johnson is feeling grateful as his luxurious yacht vacation with his wife  Earlitha "Cookie" Johnson comes to an end.

Magic and Cookie, both 64, have been enjoying a romantic final leg of their trip after weeks of traveling with family and friends.

On Saturday, the NBA legend thanked the staff for an "incredible early birthday dinner and celebration" after a "tremendous" six weeks aboard the Phoenix 2 yacht in a post on Instagram.

The staff went all out for Magic's early birthday festivities, complete with a thoughtful display of photos of the couple from over the years.

"The planning that went into my celebration was best in class," Magic continued. "Everyone helped set up pictures of Cookie and I throughout the years; college to getting married and present day!"

Magic's post continued: "I want to thank all of the staff and crew for their effort, and send a special thank you to Chef Hannah Rose for this beautiful birthday cake."

Chef Rose created a unique design for Magic's cake, with "the Commanders and Lakers front and center, which I love," he said.

"She is the best pastry chef that Cookie and I have ever experienced and her partner-in-crime, Chef Daisy, is the best chef we've ever had in our 30+ years of renting yachts," he added.

Magic encouraged his 3.5 million Instagram followers to follow both chefs. "You can follow Daisy at @thegirlyachtchef and Hannah Rose at @hannahroseyachtchef ," he wrote. "This has been one of our best vacations because of the staff, chefs and the yacht. Thank you for a tremendous 6 weeks!"

The boat accommodates 12 guests and offers seven cabins, including a split-level master apartment accessed by its own staircase, and a private terrace with a Jacuzzi,  according to its website .

The couple, who have been married for over three decades, have been traveling through Europe  with his family since early July. Magic began  chronicling the trip on July 5  when he and Cookie visited the restaurant Michelangelo in Antibes, France.

Jackson  and  Judge Greg Mathis all joined the Johnsons aboard their yacht this summer. “Tonight we enjoyed an incredible dinner at the world-famous Da Paolino Ristorante aka the lemon tree restaurant in Capri, Italy!”  Johnson wrote on July 12. “AND I got to hang out with my great friend and the greatest basketball player to ever live, Michael Jordan, and his wife Yvette, Sam and LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, and John and Vicki Palmer.”

As the trip comes to an end, Magic will prepare for his first season as an NFL owner. He is a member of the Washington Commanders'  new ownership group , led by Apollo Global Management co-founder Josh Harris.

The group  took ownership of the team after all 32 NFL owners approved the deal on July 20. The deal is reportedly worth $6 billion, according to the  Wall Street Journal . 

During a break from his vacation, the NBA legend returned to the United States for an appearance on the  Today  show , where he called the venture a "great opportunity" and reflected on what it means to become an NFL owner as a Black man.

“Breaking these barriers and going through these doors is important to me... as a proud Black man,” Johnson told  Today  host Craig Melvin through tears on July 21. "You got me choking up now."

“I don’t know why God blessed me with these opportunities, but I’m going to excel, not only for myself, but my family, but for all African Americans, making sure we can see [ourselves] in these seats," the NBA Hall of Famer said. “And I want people to know that we can do the job."

Magic Johnson Hosts His Annual Star-Studded Couples Trip Through Europe

Former NBA player Magic Johnson is at it again with his annual celeb couples trip. This year, like many others, the couples traveled throughout Europe. Johnson and his longtime wife Cookie have been sightseeing with Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson; judge Greg Mathis and his wife Linda Mathis; as well as Vicki Palmer and her husband John Palmer. Joining the trip most recently is Michael Jordan and his wife, Yvette Prieto.

“Having a great time over in Europe with our friends!” the NBA hall of famer posted in a caption under a picture of all four couples smiling and posing on the stairs of their chosen mega yacht this time around, called the Phoenix2.

The former Lakers legend and businessman also posted a picture with the couples at dinner. They went to the world famous restaurant Michelangelo in Antibes, France and were hosted by the owner, Mike “Mamo” Mammoliti.

About that aforementioned yacht, the couples cruised around on the luxury mega yacht that can be rented, reportedly, for a whopping $1.2 million a week.

“Cookie and I want to thank Christian from Burgess for setting us up on another spectacular vacation on the beautiful Phoenix 2!” Johnson wrote under a picture of himself on the luxurious boat. 

While celebrating the Fourth of July, the couples continued their summer travels on the yacht. In a video, they can be seen two stepping and clapping to Luther Vandross’s “Never Too Much” next to a buffet and table decorated with red and blue balloons for their 4th of July festivities. 

As expected, the celebs were eating good on the yacht, enjoying custom creations from a chef.

“Our chef Daisy has been cooking so many delicious dishes. Last night she cooked on the upper deck of the Phoenix 2 right in front of us. We had veggie fried rice, chicken fried rice, turkey spring rolls, general Tso’s chicken, black pepper beef, grilled vegetables, sweet and sour prawns, king crab with ginger dressing, Asian slaw, Chinese chicken soup and Lobster, just to name a few. I topped it off with my favorite dessert, banana and peach gelato! What an amazing meal!" Johnson wrote in a caption.

Chef Daisy isn't the only one preparing gourmet meals–the couples also made a stop in Italy and enjoyed some food there too.

“We had an amazing lunch at Cala di Volpe Barbeque Restaurant in Hotel Cala di Volpe and the fresh sea bass was amazing!" he wrote, mentioning that he also had "to have pizza and pasta for lunch as well."

While in Italy, they've connected with Jordan and his wife, stopping to snap a photo with all the participating pairs.

Last summer, the couples also went to Greece but that trip included other celeb couples such as Tina Knowles-Lawson and Richard Lawson, as well as LL Cool J and Simone Smith who weren't present this year.

In 2020 , Johnson’s annual trip also set sail in Italy but only included himself and Cookie, Jackson and his wife LaTanya, and the Palmers.

The basketball legend and his famous guest jumped off their yacht for Sardinia, lunching at the Cala di Volpe Hotel.

As we reported, Magic's annual summer trip has been goin' down for nearly a decade, and this year's yacht is truly spectacular -- "Phoenix2," a 296-foot ship that rents out for $1.2 mil a week!

The yacht has everything ... an outdoor theater, swimming pool, gym, and multiple jacuzzis.

SLJ shared some pics of him getting some R&R last week on the yacht -- going topside for acupuncture and cupping !

MAGIC Johnson is known for his epic European vacations with Hollywood pal Samuel L. Jackson.

And the NBA legend's annual trip around the Mediterranean with his wife and close friends has lived up to the billing once again this summer.

Magic and his wife Cookie kickstarted their summer vacation on a superyacht in Barcelona with a trip to the Boca Grande restaurant.

“We are officially on vacation!!,” the Los Angeles Lakers icon wrote.

“Hanging out with our great friends John and Vicki Palmer and Sam and LaTanya Jackson at Boca Grande in Barcelona, Spain! The food was *chef’s kiss*."

From there, the Johnson went to Ibiza where he was joined by Cedric the Entertainer and his wife Lorna.

The group had lunch at Juan Y Andrea Formentera.

"We ate the catch of the day, fresh sea bass and lobster… So delicious!" he said.

The group then finished their "amazing" stay at Ibizia with a dinner at Can Palau De Dalt.

Johnson then took advantage of being at sea with a ride on a jet ski.

And the party celebrated July 4 overseas with a celebration full of red, white and blue balloons and American flags.

"A great day celebrating the Fourth of July with our friends overseas!' Johnson wrote.

The NBA icon has made sure to stay in shape during his vacation with trips to numerous gyms.

 At Palma de Mallorca, Johnson and his friends visited a Gothic church which took over 400 years to build.

"We were all in awe!!" he said.

The highlight of the vacation was a 1980s-themed party in which Magic and his friends dressed up in bright neon track suits.

"We had the best time and danced all night long," he said.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel also made an appearance on the yacht – but only as a cutout.

Kimmel told Johnson on his show a few months ago that he wanted to join the NBA star on his summer vacation this year.

Johnson then made his way to France, firstly with a trip to Antibes and a "fantastic dinner" at Mamo Michelangelo.

The group has since made its way to Monte Carlo, where Magic took in another workout at Thirty Nine Sports Club.

The group are traveling on Phoenix 2, which costs a cool $1.3 million to charter per week.

The yacht has seven cabins and 29 staff.

The art deco-inspired yacht is billed as "the height of on-the-water opulence."

It comes with both indoor and outdoor cinemas, three pools, a wellness centre, and "an eye-watering array of toys."

K endrick Perkins stirred up some debate when he appeared on "NBA Today" and unveiled his top five greatest point guards in NBA history. Known for his bold takes, Perkins made it clear that his list might ruffle some feathers, but he stood firm on his choices, emphasizing that this was his personal ranking.

"Coming in at number five, bam! John Stockton, listen, one of the greatest to ever do it. We know what he did with playing alongside Karl Malone, the mailman, picking and popping, picking and rolling... Although he didn't win the championship, all time leader in assists. I mean, think about it. All his years of playing in the NBA, leading the league with double-digit assists, John Stockton come in at number five."

Although Stockton never won a championship, his partnership with Karl Malone and his consistent double-digit assists performances made him a lock for Perkins' top five.

At number four, Perkins placed Russell Westbrook , affectionately known as "The Brodie." Westbrook's record-breaking triple-double seasons and his ability to carry the Oklahoma City Thunder after Kevin Durant's departure were key factors in his selection. Perkins noted that while Westbrook hasn't won a championship, his impact on the game and his MVP season in 2017 solidified his place among the greats.

Coming in at number three was Oscar Robertson , "The Big O." Perkins highlighted Robertson's pioneering role as the original triple-double king and his championship win with the Milwaukee Bucks. 

Perkins' number two pick was none other than Magic Johnson , the iconic leader of the Showtime Lakers. "Happy birthday, Magic," Perkins began, as he praised Johnson's revolutionary play at the point guard position and wished him on his birthday. Standing 6'9", Magic's versatility, leadership, and five championships made him an easy choice for Perkins. He also pointed out Magic's legendary performance in the 1980 NBA Finals, where he famously played center in Game 6 and led the Lakers to victory.

Finally, at the top of Perkins' list was Stephen Curry . Perkins credited Curry with changing the game of basketball forever with his unparalleled shooting ability and revolutionary style of play. For Perkins, Curry's impact, skill, and championships make him the greatest point guard in NBA history.

Dave McMenamin Still Thinks Magic Johnson Is Above Stephen Curry

Dave McMenamin, during the same panel discussion, made it clear that he still believes Magic Johnson ranks above Stephen Curry in the all-time greatest point guards debate, even after Curry's remarkable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Steph Curry is fantastic and he should be in the conversation, but Magic has more MVPs, Magic has more championships as you mentioned Magic figures in getting the NBA where it is today and think about what he did jump in center against the Sixers as a rookie I give the edge to Magic." (4:24)

McMenamin pointed to Magic Johnson's unparalleled impact on the game, not just through his accolades but through his role in popularizing the NBA globally. He also highlighted Magic's legendary performance as a rookie in the 1980 NBA Finals, where he famously played center against the Philadelphia 76ers and led the Lakers to a championship.

McMenamin concluded that while Curry has revolutionized the game with his shooting and style, Magic's overall contributions, leadership, and influence on the sport give him the upper hand in this debate.

Magic Johnson and His Family Proudly Show Off Washington Commanders 'Swag' Aboard Yacht in Greece

The NBA legend became a part-owner of the NFL team as part of a group led by billionaire Josh Harris

Magic Johnson couldn't wait to show off his new NFL team's "swag" while vacationing in Greece with his family.

The former NBA legend, 63, shared a sweet photo of his family sporting their new Washington Commanders merchandise as Johnson prepares for his first season as an owner of the team.

In a tweet, Johnson wrote, "My family and I rocking our new Commanders swag on the yacht today in Greece," alongside the photo.

The enthusiastic post comes days after Johnson, who became one of the new owners of the Washington Commanders in a sale headed by billionaire Josh Harris for $6.05 billion, spoke about the opportunity, calling it "the biggest thing I’ve ever done in my life," in an interview with Today.

“Breaking these barriers and going through these doors is important to me,” Johnson said in the interview with host Craig Melvin “As a proud Black man,” he added, before becoming tearful — “You got me choking up now.”

The Johnson squad was all smiles posing for the pic as they continued their European vacation on Tuesday. Before stopping in Greece, the group enjoyed the luxurious San Domenico Palace in Taormina.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Johnson shared several snaps of him and his family during their travels — including a stop at the hotel that was famously the setting for the second season of HBO's hit series White Lotus.

“A lot of the art and artifacts in the hotel are from the 1800s and fun fact, season 2 of White Lotus was filmed on the property! I recommend anyone traveling to Sicily, Italy stay in the hotel and eat at Anciovi!”

The NBA legend is traveling with his wife, Earlitha "Cookie" Johnson, their son EJ, 31, and daughter Elisa, 28, as well as Johnson's first child, son Andre, 42, with ex-girlfriend Melissa Mitchell, and two of his grandchildren.

Earlier on the trip, the former NBA star had been traveling around the Mediterranean with some of his friends, including  Michael Jordan ,  Samuel L. Jackson  and  Judge Greg Mathis .
