The Market at Ale and Compass Gift Shop at Disney’s Yacht Club (Photos of Merchandise)

The Market at Ale and Compass is part gift shop and part resort quick service. For this article, we’ll focus on the Yacht Club’s gift shop and what you can expect to find during your Walt Disney World vacation. We have a separate review of The Market at Ale and Compass quick service if you’re looking for what kind of food items you can expect.

We stay at the Yacht Club regularly and try to update the photos of the resort’s merchandise regularly. These photos were taken in 2024, so every item you see might not be available. However, this should give you a general idea of what type of merchandise the store generally has on hand.

It’s a sizable gift shop with a boutique feel, similar to the rest of the resort.

Yacht Club’s gift shop is a little higher-end than others. You’ll find brands like Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, and Tommy Bahamas. Of course, they’ll also have a few Disney backpacks and other things. We’ll first preview a few pieces of resort-branded merchandise. I bought this red Yacht Club T-shirt shown in the photo below. Unfortunately, it fell apart after the first wash!

Yacht Club Highlights:

  • Great location! The Yacht Club is walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios (which is also easily accessible by boat or Skyliner.)
  • Stormalong Bay! This gorgeous water complex includes a sand bottom pool, pirate slide, and lazy river.
  • A diner’s paradise! In addition to two theme parks, the Yacht Club is also walking distance to the Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn, and Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. Being so close to four additional deluxe resorts provides extensive dining and entertainment options.

What is the Yacht Club like?

The Yacht Club (YC) is a five-story, 630 room resort, slightly larger than its sister resort, the Beach Club (BC), located along the shore of Crescent Lake, opposite the Boardwalk Resort . Themed after seaside New England hotels of the late 1800s, the Yacht Club has a stately, nautical look and feel; hardwood floors and brass accents enhance this feeling. Guests staying at both the Yacht Club and Beach Club have the exclusive use of Stormalong Bay, a 750,000 gallon pool/mini-water park complete with water slide, sandy bottom, whirlpools, and water currents.

Why stay at the Yacht Club?

Three very important reasons: Location, Location, Location. The Yacht Club is one of the most conveniently located resorts on Disney’s property. The Yacht Club is within walking distance of Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Boardwalk, the Swan, and the Dolphin hotels. If you don’t feel like walking you can choose a short boat ride to any of these places instead.

yacht club store disney

If you like fine dining, you will be in the center of it all. Not only do the Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk all have terrific choices, you are also just minutes away from the international flavor of Epcot’s World Showcase. If you like to swim, one of the best hotel pools, Stormalong Bay, is right under your nose. There are several other recreational activities available at the Yacht Club (described below).

Transportation – How do I get there from here?

  • EPCOT – EPCOT can be easily reached by foot via a short 10-minute walk along the water way leading to Epcot’s International Gateway. If walking isn’t for you, there is a boat to ferry guests from all the Epcot resorts (Swan, Dolphin, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club) to the International Gateway, but the walk is faster and a bit more scenic. To board the boat, simply exit the lobby on the rear side of the hotel and walk straight down to the dock – just look for the lighthouse. Be sure you’re in the Epcot line (left side facing the water), not Disney’s Hollywood Studios line (right side facing the water) line.Epcot resort guests CAN use the International Gateway entrance to Epcot even though World Showcase may not yet be open for the day. Cast members will help usher you toward Future World in Epcot. The International Gateway also offers full-service ticketing and purchasing of annual passes. The guest services window usually opens 30 minutes prior to park opening.

yacht club store disney

  • You can take a leisurely 15 to 20 minute one-mile stroll along the path that follows the waterway connecting the Epcot resort area with the Hollywood Studios.
  • Take the Friendship boat f rom the right side of the boat dock. You can meet the boat at the dock just as you would the boat for Epcot, by exiting the rear of the hotel and walking straight down to the lighthouse. Again, make sure you catch the right boat. The CMs will surely let you know which boat you’re getting on. The boat usually stops by the Swan and Dolphin and Boardwalk via the Studios. The trip takes about 20 minutes.
  • Take the Disney Skyliner. Walk to International Gateway and climb aboard the most Magical Flight on Earth! You will need to transfer to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Caribbean Beach Station.

yacht club store disney

  • Magic Kingdom – The Magic Kingdom can be reached by taking a bus from the front of the hotel. Another longer, but more scenic, journey is to take the monorail from Epcot’s front entrance, transfer at the TTC, and then continue to the MK. Traveling this way does take some time and some walking, but you get to see a little bit more, and it lends to resort hopping if the mood strikes. Keep in mind this route will likely taste at least an hour.
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Disney’s Animal Kingdom can be reached by taking a bus from the front of the hotel.

yacht club store disney

  • Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Disney Springs – Buses take you directly from the hotel to these locations after picking up passengers from the Beach Club and Boardwalk Inn. Travel times vary to each of these locations, but many of these attractions are relatively close to the Yacht Club, so you never have to wait too long.

Note that when using the buses, they will usually stop at the Beach Club; however sometimes it will also stop at the Boardwalk, the Swan and the Dolphin resorts. The tends to happen during the middle of the day or during low crowd times.

  • Disney’s Boardwalk – The Boardwalk faces the Yacht and Beach Clubs on the opposite side of Crescent Lake. There are two foot bridges, one in the direction of the Swan/Dolphin hotels, and one in the direction of Epcot, allowing you to walk to this entertainment complex and hotel.
  • For all other locations, including Fort Wilderness , and resort hotels, buses to Disney Springs will allow you to connect with other transportation to your final destination. You can also take the monorail from the Future World side of Epcot to reach the TTC. Travel times vary widely here. You can time it just right and have a short, efficient trip, or have a trip lasting over  an hour. Hope for the best! Hint: When in a hurry, it usually takes only 5 minutes to get a taxi. Go to the valet station at the front of the Yacht Club and they will call a taxi for you. Trips to destinations on property range in cost from $16 to $24. For example, the typical taxi fare from the Yacht Club to the Grand Floridian costs about $20 (not including tip). It’s usually significantly cheaper to take a Rideshare such as an Uber or Lyft from the front of the Yacht Club to anywhere on property.

What are the rooms like?

Most rooms feature two queen-size beds, a table and chairs, color TV w/remote, a ceiling fan, double sinks in the dressing area, and refrigerator. Some rooms have a daybed that will accommodate the maximum 5 guests allowed per room at the Yacht Club. There are also pet friendly rooms. Of the 539 regular guest rooms at the Yacht Club, 483 rooms have queen-sized beds, 56 rooms have king-sized beds, and there are 10 disabled access rooms. Most rooms have a balcony that have a table and two chairs. Standard Rooms are for all guests, including Concierge Club. Deluxe rooms are larger and are only available on the Concierge level.

yacht club store disney

The rooms at the Yacht Club have been thoughtfully stocked with many extras. Rooms have a small safe, located in the closet, in which you can store your valuables such as jewelry, airline tickets, passports, travelers’ checks, etc. For bigger items, storage facilities may be available at the front desk.

Another nice feature is having the bathtub/toilet separated from the rest of the room. The double sinks are located outside the true “bathroom.” In the vanity area, you will find a hair dryer, as well as a make-up mirror mounted on the wall.

yacht club store disney

The Yacht Club does have a Club Level and club-level/service rooms. All Club Level rooms are located on the hotel’s 5th floor, which requires your Magic Band to gain entry from the elevator. There are 71 concierge suites and 20 “true” suites in a variety of sizes. See the Concierge page for more information about the concierge level.

Walt Disney World Resort has complimentary Wi-Fi service available in all of its hotels and parks. See our Internet Access page for details.

A room with a view, but which one?

There are three views available: The Standard view, the Garden or Woods view, and the Lagoon or pool view.

Standard view rooms overlook the garden, rooftop or parking areas around the hotel. Garden or Woods view rooms typically overlook the slightly nicer areas around the quiet pool, or even the wedding gazebo. Lagoon or pool view rooms have a direct view of Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk. Some of the Lagoon or Pool view rooms are located just above Stormalong Bay and may be a bit noisy during the day. Note also that not all Lagoon or Pool view rooms offer a direct view of the lake and the Boardwalk. Many are at right angles to the lake, making it often difficult or impossible to see the Boardwalk. If you should book a Lagoon or Pool view room, don’t be disappointed if you don’t have a direct view of the lake.

Can I Bring My Pet to Stay at the Yacht Club?

Walt Disney World has four hotels pet-friendly, one of which is Disney’s Yacht Club. Read our page on Pet-Friendly Hotel Rooms for more details.

Pets may also be boarded at the Best Friends Pet Care kennel across from Port Orleans Riverside.

Are there smoking and nonsmoking rooms?

All Disney resorts and guest rooms are smoke free . There are designated outdoor smoking areas. Check the resort map or with a Cast Member for locations.

yacht club store disney

What are the prices for a room?

The Yacht Club is considered a “Deluxe” resort hotel, and its prices are among the more expensive offered at Disney. These are regular rate prices and do not include the Florida Sales Tax nor the county resort tax. Most rooms have a maximum five-person occupancy per room. Prices are per room, and there is an additional adult charge of $25 per adult per night for more than two adults in a room.

Walt Disney World Resort rates vary by season (there are nine seasons now), and also by day of the week. The holiday season is the most expensive time of the year. It runs from mid-December to early January as well as during Easter Week.

The rates for a: — Standard View Room range from $443 – $762 — Garden or Woods View Room range from $484 – $787                                     — Lagoon or Pool View Room range from $561 – $851 — Club Level Standard View Room range from $661 – $1,052 — Club Level Garden View Room range from $676 – $1,075 — Club Level Pool or Lagoon View room range from $771 – $1,197 — Suites range from $1,863 – $3,071

Is there a fee to park at the Yacht Club?

There is a fee for overnight self-parking at Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Click HERE for current pricing and other parking-related information.

yacht club store disney

Are there any discounts?

There are many ways to save a few dollars on your accommodations at WDW. Disney offers several resort “seasons” throughout the year including a Value Season. Annual Passholders can save by visiting during annual Passholder specials. Florida residents get a break for living in the same state as the Mouse. Don’t forget holidays are the most expensive time to visit, along with most of the summer. Generally, planning your trip during the off-season can save you money right off the bat.

Please visit our Discount Summary Page for more information.

I hear that there are no more room key cards at Disney resort hotels. How do I get into my room?

Walt Disney World has converted their room keys and admission tickets from plastic cards to MagicBands, flexible plastic wristbands, resembling a watch or bracelet, that use Radio Frequency (RF) technology. Your MagicBand is linked to your My Disney Experience (MDE) account and acts as your Disney resort room key. Simply touch the Mickey symbol on your MagicBand to the RFID reader near your room door to gain entry. Read about using MagicBands for park admission, FastPass+ and more.

I want to swim!

The Yacht Club has one of the best, if not the best swimming pools (at a hotel) in all of Walt Disney World. Stormalong Bay is a three-acre water playground shared between the Yacht Club and the Beach Club. It’s a great place to have fun or just relax. Stormalong Bay has many different sections that encompass its 750,000 gallons of water. There are shallow wading areas for the younger ones, complete with sand bottoms. There are also larger and deeper areas, some with sand, some without.

yacht club store disney

A “shipwreck” on the shore of Crescent Lake provides the entrance to an exciting water slide for the adventurous folks. There is a circular area in Stormalong Bay with water jets that create a current. All you have to do is float. the water will move you along! All around Stormalong Bay are lounge chairs where you can relax and catch some rays. Among other things, you’ll find a waterfall and a couple of hot tubs hidden amongst the scenery. Note, however, that life jackets cannot be worn when using the water slide. The water slide includes an enclosed tube and a child with a life jacket can get stuck. If your child requires the use of a life jacket, you can request to use the pool and slide at the Boardwalk Inn.

yacht club store disney

There is a quiet pool at the Yacht Club, found on the far end of the hotel away from the noise and excitement. The pool is located on the front/side of the hotel farthest from the Beach Club and closest to the Swan/Dolphin. There is also a hot tub in the same area as the quiet pool. These facilities are open 24 hours, as long as you are quiet! You can also use the quiet pool/hot tub on the Beach Club side of things. This pool is located on the back side of the Beach Club, closest to Epcot. You may see this area if you walk the path to Epcot. There is a third pool (and hot tub) located at the Beach Club Villas; guests of the Yacht Club are welcome to use it as well.

What other recreation is available at the Yacht Club?

Be sure to request the Recreational Activities flyer . There may be activities like Water Volleyball, Campfire Sing-along, or Movie Under the Stars.

I need to shop! OR — I forgot to pack something real important!

The Yacht Club’s all-purpose store is The Market at Ale and Compass.   This store offers a small but comprehensive collection of clothing, character merchandise, and sundries.

Need your clothes cleaned?

If you need to wash your clothes during your stay at the Yacht Club, laundry facilities are located adjacent to the quiet pool area located on the far front side of the hotel, closer to the Swan/Dolphin hotels. Likewise there are laundry facilities at the quiet pool of the Beach Club.

If you need something dry cleaned or pressed, you’ll find a card detailing services and costs in your room upon check-in. An iron and ironing board are located in most guest rooms. If your room does not have these items, they can be obtained free of charge by contacting housekeeping.

Babysitting, Childcare, Children’s Programs

There is no child care activity center at this resort. For child care alternatives, visit our Child Care FAQ.

Does the Yacht Club have a Convention Center?

Yes, the Yacht and Beach Clubs share a convention center that has 73,000 square feet of meeting and function space, that can accommodate both large and small events.

How do I use valet parking?

Simply drive your vehicle to the front of the resort and a Cast Member will park it for you. Valet parking is $33 per car for the day, even if you are staying at the Yacht Club. Don’t forget to tip the valet (both the one who takes your car and the one who brings it back to you – $1-2 is recommended) When you need to retrieve your vehicle, simply give the valet your slip of paper you were given when the car was parked, and your car will be delivered to the front of the hotel. When you are ready to get your car, call the valet stand from your room and ask for your car to be brought around. If you pay for valet at one Disney resort hotel, you can use valet at the other hotels – just tell them you are paying at the Yacht Club. The Disney resorts contract out valet services, so you are dealing with a 3rd party, not Disney employed cast members.

Does the Yacht Club have a Security Gate?

Yes, the Yacht Club complex has a guarded security gate. Upon initial arrival, simply explain to the guard you are checking in. Once you have checked in, your Magic Band will also serve to open the security gates (pull on the right side to activate the guest gate). Be sure to have your Magic Band ready when reentering through the security gate. During busy times ONLY Yacht Club resort guests may be allowed to enter the parking area.

Tips and Tricks: What else you should know about the Yacht Club:

Need a new ‘do, or just a haircut? Ship Shape Spa and Salon is located between the YC and BC, next to the health club, is the place to go. It is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m., daily. Services offered include: hair and nail services, massages and facials. Appointments are strongly recommended, call (407) WDW-SPAS or (407) 939-7727 to book.

Are you a couple on a romantic getaway? Ask for a room overlooking the wedding gazebo (a garden view room). If you’re lucky, from your balcony you’ll be able to hear and see a magical Disney wedding take place. Quite a romantic/reminiscent experience.

Plunk a few quarters in the slots at Lafferty Place Arcade where you’ll find a selection of exciting video games.

Parking – – there is a lot where you park your car. It’s a long walk from your room to the car, unless you want to pay for valet parking.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Review (Is it worth it?)

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is one of the most beautiful and convenient hotels in all of Walt Disney World. With its classy design, enormous pool, and prime location, it’s easy to see why the Yacht Club at Disney World is such a highly sought after place to stay.

My family and I have visited numerous hotels on Disney property, but the Yacht Club always keeps us coming back for more. We love the close proximity to Disney’s Boardwalk, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

The multiple transportation options are a huge plus, especially for those who don’t like to solely rely on Disney buses. And of course we have to mention the Yacht Club’s pool, Stormalong Bay. This elaborate resort swimming area is arguably the best pool at the Walt Disney World Resort!

If you’re still not quite sold on the Yacht Club at Disney World or if you would like more information, continue reading below. In this post, we will cover everything you need to know about this deluxe Disney resort , including the activities, restaurants, and rooms available at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

(This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small compensation at no extra cost to you. Please see my disclosure policy at the bottom of this page for more details.)

Yacht Club Restaurants

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is full of all different types of restaurants. Since this hotel shares dining options with its sister resorts, you’ll find even more places to eat within a short walk of your room.

  • Beaches and Cream – available for lunch and dinner with reservations highly recommended
  • Martha’s Vineyard – offers appetizers and full bar
  • Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill – pool restaurant with full bar and lunch/dinner options

Furthermore, the Yacht Club is located just a short walk away from Disney’s Boardwalk , where you’ll find additional restaurants and bars.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is home to the most popular pool on Disney property. It’s such a hit that you’ll find cast members handing out wristbands at the entrance so that only hotel guests can enter.

pirate ship water slide

The main pool, Stormalong Bay, features a large sand bottom swimming area that’s super shallow and great for toddlers and little kids. There’s also a lazy river that’s a fan favorite in my household.

Guests can also enjoy other large swimming areas at Stormalong Bay, including an activities section where you’ll find games like pool volleyball. Stormalong Bay offers a large waterslide as well as a smaller slide that empties into a shallow pool.

empty pool and clubhouse at Yacht Club

In addition to Stormalong Bay, the Yacht Club in Disney World features a “quiet” pool that is seldom busy. This is a great spot to relax or swim laps.

Rooms

My family and I love the nautical decor and ambience of the Yacht Club guest rooms. Additionally, we appreciate that the rooms offer full balconies. In our post on Disney’s Beach Club vs Yacht Club , you’ll read about why these balconies are a major pro for Yacht Club compared to its sister resort.

toilet room, shower, and vanity and Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club features standard rooms and club level rooms. If you book a room with Club Level benefits, you get access to the Regatta Club. Here, you’ll find food and beverages offered at certain times throughout the day.

2 Queen beds and day bed at Yacht Club

Guest rooms at the Yacht Club come with views of the lake, pool, garden, or hotel rooftop/parking lot. These rooms typically feature 1 king bed or 2 queens. Some of them also offer a daybed. This means that if you book a room with 2 queens plus a daybed, you can sleep a family of five!

Prices at Yacht Club

Since Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is classified as a deluxe hotel at Disney World, you’ll notice that the prices are higher than at some of the other hotels. This is because the Yacht Club offers deluxe room space, extra amenities, and a prime location.

We will explain all the significance of all of these perks in more detail below, but it’s important to note that Disney’s Yacht Club truly offers a deluxe experience. The updated guest rooms feature plenty of space, including private balconies. Plus, the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of other Disney hotels, restaurants, theme parks, and more.

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

If you would really like to experience the location, amenities, and entertainment at the Yacht Club without the hefty price tag, we suggest booking a room at the sister hotel through David’s Vacation Club Rentals. You will be blown away by the cost savings on David’s DVC rental site! We usually save hundreds of dollars per night by using this method to book a room at a deluxe resort.

Just use the cost calculator to see exactly how much a room costs at Yacht Club’s sister resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These villas are located just a short walk away from the Yacht Club hotel, and they both share restaurants, pools, and activities. While you can reserve one of the villas on the official Disney website, we prefer to book through David’s DVC rental website . We have used this reputable company for years to rent timeshare points at Disney villas.

Things to Do at Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits on the same property as two sister resorts: Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These three hotels share restaurants, activities, amenities, and entertainment options with each other.

sand bottom pool with Disney's Yacht Club in background

One of my family’s favorite things about the Yacht Club is that you don’t need to leave the property to have fun. So, if you’re looking for activities at Disney outside of the theme parks, the Yacht Club offers lots of great options. These are our favorite things to do at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort when enjoying a relaxing day at Disney:

See Epcot Fireworks

We recommend walking to the bridge that connects the Disney Boardwalk to the Yacht and Beach Club Resort to enjoy the nightly Epcot fireworks show. You can even grab some ice cream to enjoy during the presentation.

Take a Ride on the Skyliner

Since the Disney Skyliner sits just outside of Epcot’s International Gateway entrance, you can easily access it from the Yacht Club Resort. Just take the short (less than ten minutes) walk toward Epcot and hop on the Skyliner for free!

Book a fishing excursion on Crescent Lake for a truly unique experience while staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Eat Ice Cream

Disney’s Yacht Club is home to one of our favorite WDW restaurants, Beaches and Cream . While reservations can be difficult to snag at this popular dining spot, you can access the walk-up window to order shakes and ice cream to-go.

Dine with Characters

Check out Cape May Cafe during breakfast/brunch when it becomes Minnie’s Beach Bash. Guests can meet Goofy, Minnie, and Donald while they dine at the breakfast buffet.

Float along the Lazy River

The Beach Club’s main pool, Stormalong Bay, offers many fun features. One of our favorite things to do at the pool is to grab (free) tubes to float along the lazy river.

Play Games in the Arcade

Lafferty Place Arcade offers lots of fun games for kids and adults to enjoy. This is a particularly great place to spend time at Disney World when it’s raining.

Ride the Friendship Boats

The Disney water taxi picks up visitors near the Yacht Club. You can ride this free boat to the Disney Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin Resorts, Epcot entrance, and Hollywood Studios entrance.

Build Sandcastles

Did you know that Stormalong Bay features a shallow, sand bottom pool and beach area? Kids love digging in the sand and splashing around in this section of the pool.

Make S’mores

Visit the nightly campfire to roast marshmallows during your visit. You can even purchase S’mores Kits for a few dollars.

Rent a Boat

Spend time on Crescent Lake on your own private pontoon boat. Guests can rent boats from the marina near the Yacht Club.

Disney’s Yacht Club offers a large fitness center for guests to use during their stay. Ship Shape Health Club is even open 24 hours a day, so you can squeeze in a workout at any time.

Stroll along the Disney Boardwalk

The Disney Boardwalk is full of amazing activities and entertainment options and is just a short walk away from the Yacht Club.

Play Volleyball

As you walk along the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club, you’ll notice a sand volleyball court. This is a great spot to pick up a game with friends or family. You can also often join a game of volleyball at Stormalong Bay Pool.

Enjoy an Evening Movie

Each evening, Disney Yacht Club guests can watch a movie under the stars. These family friendly movies are a great way to unwind after a long day.

Play Mini Golf

Stroll over to Fantasia Gardens and Miniature Golf Course where you’ll find two 18-hole courses. This fun spot is located near the Dolphin and Swan Resorts.

Swim Some Laps

If you’re looking for a quieter poolside experience to swim laps or relax, check out the leisure pool at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You’ll also have access to the quiet pools at Beach Club and Beach Club Villas.

If you’re not into running or jogging on vacation, you can spend time strolling along the jogging paths at the Yacht Club. You’ll find lots of great spots to take pictures and may even catch some surprises along the way.

Join a Kid Friendly Party at the Pool

Each afternoon, Stormalong Bay hosts fun poolside activities like hula hoop competitions and limbo.

Play Tennis

Guests can find tennis courts near the Yacht Club’s quiet pool.

Zoom Down Waterslides

Stormalong Bay features two separate water slides for guests to enjoy. The main waterslide stretches from the pirate ship and across the Beach Club boardwalk to the main pool.

You’ll also find a smaller slide that’s perfect for toddlers and small kids at the entrance to the main water slide.

Book a Fireworks Cruise

Take in the sights and sounds of the Epcot fireworks show from your pontoon boat on Crescent Lake.

Transportation

As mentioned above, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits in a prime location in the center of all the magic at WDW. If you’re planning to visit one of the theme parks, you’ll be happy to know that several of them are just a super short walk or ride away.

hotel lobby with seating areas

These are our preferred ways to get from Disney’s Yacht Club to other places in Walt Disney World:

  • To Magic Kingdom – You can access the Disney buses in front of the hotel. The ride to Magic Kingdom should take 15-20 minutes.
  • To Epcot – Exit the back of Yacht Club (toward Crescent Lake) and turn left. Epcot sits just under a ten minute walk away!
  • To Hollywood Studios – You have several options for getting to Hollywood Studios. We find the quickest option *usually* is walking. Hollywood Studios sits just a 15 minute walk away from the Yacht Club. You can also ride a Friendship Boat to Hollywood Studios. However, by the time you wait on the boat to make stops, this method can take longer than walking. You could also walk toward Epcot to catch the Disney Skyliner. With this method, you should be able to reach Hollywood Studios in around 25 minutes.
  • To Animal Kingdom – You can hop on one of the Disney buses to get to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. This is roughly a ten-minute ride.
  • To Disney’s Boardwalk – You can make the five-minute walk around Crescent Lake to easily reach the Disney Boardwalk. Guests can also take the Friendship Boat from the Yacht Club lighthouse and ride across the lake to the Boardwalk.
  • To Disney Springs – You can take a bus to Disney Springs, which typically takes 15-20 minutes.

Is Disney’s Yacht Club Worth It?

Since Disney’s Yacht Club may be my personal favorite resort in all of WDW , I would definitely say it’s worth the cost! I love the classy guest rooms and bathrooms with their nautical decor.

The lobby seems to be quieter and calmer than that at other resorts, and the cast members are super friendly and helpful. My family and I enjoy the food at all the restaurants on site, and we appreciate the ability to easily walk from the Yacht Club to the Beach Club’s dining options.

pin for Disney's Yacht Club Resort

The close proximity to Epcot makes the Yacht Club an ideal place to stay since there’s no rush to get to the park in the morning or back “home” at the end of a long day. Plus, you enter and exit through the International Gateway entrance to Epcot (near World Showcase), so the lines to enter are basically nonexistent.

Additionally, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is just a short walk, boat ride, or Skyliner ride away. And if you feel like venturing out, you can take the scenic stroll around Crescent Lake to the Disney Boardwalk.

Disney World Room Tour: Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney World Room Tour: Disney's Yacht Club

Today we’re taking you through one of the beautiful refurbished rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort .

About Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

The Yacht Club and it’s sister resort, The Beach Club, embody a New England seaside vibe along Crescent Lake, adjacent to World Showcase in EPCOT.  This Deluxe Resort offers plenty of dining and entertainment for guests staying on property.  Nautical touches throughout the resort, along with amenities like Stormalong Bay , a sandy beach, and easy access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, make this resort a personal favorite of mine.

Stormalong Bay pool area featuring a windmill and an island accessible by 2 white bridges

Yacht Club Rooms

Yacht Club Room

All of the rooms at the Yacht Club were refurbished in late 2017 to bring the decor up to date, and add a light, modern feel.  Now, hues of navy blue and beige created a muted nautical vibe with accents like riveting and textile add to the subtle theming. Almost all the standard rooms at Yacht Club can sleep five guests, with 2 queen-sized beds, and one twin pull-down sofa bed.

Yacht Club Room

The dark woods in the floors and furniture give the whole space a sophisticated feel, and the details on the furniture give it a steamer trunk look and feel.  There is a large chest of drawers below the mounted flat screen TV that provides tons of space for storage of clothes.

During the latest renovations of most rooms at Disney, they are opting for a laminate floor over rugs, to make the rooms easier to clean, and more allergy/dust friendly.  They’ve also eliminated the platforms under the beds, which leaves a huge open space to store luggage during your stay.

Yacht Club Room

A small enclosed nook houses the small mini-fridge, and there’s a cute little coffee station above it.  You’ll find a 1-cup Keurig coffee maker, along with a selection of Joffery’s K-cups.  Additional glasses and mugs are stored on the shelves above.

Yacht Club Room

A huge wardrobe stands in place of the traditional sliding closet, which has tons of room in it.  The smaller door to the right hides the room safe, as well as a fold out ironing board and iron storage.

Yacht Club Room

Directly across from the closet space is a divided bath.  The sink area is now closed off to the rest of the room with a large sliding barn door.  You’ll find double sinks and a huge lighted mirror.  There’s also tons of storage space below the sinks, as well as a lighted rotating make-up mirror.

Yacht Club Room

The toilet and tub/shower are in their own sperate place, closed off by a pocket door, to save space.  Sliding glass doors replace the older shower curtains.  In the shower, there is a fixed showerhead, as well as a smaller handheld sprayer.  Perfect for rising those sandy feet after a day in Stormalong Bay .

Yacht Club Room

Every room includes either a full balcony or a balconette.  If you’ve reserved a water view room, you can expect fantastic views of Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk Resort just across the water.  From this room we had an amazing view across the water, and we were able to see the fireworks from IllumiNations at night.

Yacht Club Room

Skyliner Transportation – Coming Soon!

In addition to the amazing resort amenities and location, the Yacht Club is also one of the resorts that will be served by the new Skyliner transportation system .  Beginning this Fall, the Skyliner will take guests from the International Gateway entrance (a quick walk from the resorts main entrance) to Hollywood Studios, as well as other resorts, including the new Rivera Resort, opening late this year!

Full List of Important Disney World Closures You Should Plan Around in 2025

By Jesus Garcia Leave a Comment

Listen, your 2025 trip to Disney World is coming up sooner than you think!

yacht club store disney

As we said, 2025 is right around the corner which means you’ve really got no time to waste making all the preparations for which hotel you’re going to stay at, the food you’re going to eat , and what’s going to go in your suitcase ! But there’s one thing that might have missed your radar and that is closures at Disney World in 2025 . We’ve got your back — which is why we’ve brought you a handy dandy list of them so you don’t have to do all the work yourself (we’ve got you)! Let’s go!

Let’s waste no time and dive right into the full list of important Disney World Closures in 2025 that you need to know about! Let’s go!

Bay Lake Tower

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing room refurbishment work from September 2024 to September 2025 . You read that correctly — a whole year of construction work!

yacht club store disney

The main thing to note is that you will be seeing and hearing construction work in Bay Lake Tower and you might have to take detours, so just stay vigilant.

Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will also be undergoing room refurbishment work from January 2025 through May 2025 . It isn’t quite clear if the work will be a light refurb or a full-on reimagining of the rooms (we’ll keep you posted).

yacht club store disney

Disney’s Yacht Club

Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool (which are shared by Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts) will undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to June 2025 . These pools are among the top favorites at the Disney World resorts.

yacht club store disney

Stormalong Bay

The other pools at the hotel like the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still be open , so you can still spend your time relaxing at the pool.

Why You (Probably) Shouldn’t Stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in 2025

Fantasia Pool

Staying on the topic of pools, the Fantasia Pool over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will also undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to April 2025 .

yacht club store disney

While the refurbishment is happening, the Donald Duck pool will still be open , so you can enjoy a pool during your stay.

CHANGE Announced for Pool Closure at a Disney World Hotel

Perennial closures.

There are a couple of things that close annually in January for refurbishment like the Skyliner and the water rides at Disney World. Let’s start with the Skyliner .

yacht club store disney

Disney World’s Skyliner

In 2024 , it closed from January 16th – 27th , which wasn’t too long. We might see a similar closure for it in 2025. We found out the official dates for the 2024 refurb back in October 2023 , so we’ll probably find out about the 2025 refurb in October 2024 . We’ll keep you posted!

4 Hotel Rooms in Disney World That Are Only 127 Steps Away from the Skyliner

Next, let’s talk about the water rides that tend to close in January. Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom  closed for its refurb from January 8th to March 15th, 2024 . We can expect to see a similar closure in 2025 . We’ll keep you updated on the official dates when Disney releases them!

yacht club store disney

Kali River Rapids

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom could potentially see a closure in January when the temperature gets quite low, but we don’t have an official word, so we’ll have to wait for Disney to share more!

If you didn’t already know, Test Track closed for a HUGE makeover back on June 17th .

Reimagining concept art ©Disney

Disney stated that this new version of Test Track takes its inspiration from an OG ride — World of Motion. We don’t have many details about the project like a reopening date, so it’s possible given the size and scope of the project that it could potentially still be closed at the beginning of 2025 . We’ll keep our eyes out for all the latest news about it and let you know ASAP.

These Are the Absolute Worst Ways to Use the Disney Dining Plan

by Heather Adams | Jun 25, 2024 | Walt Disney World Food , WDW Blog

Nomad Lounge exterior, worst ways to use the Disney Dining Plan

Looking for the best value for your money? Don’t waste your credits on these restaurants and food or beverages when you’re using the Disney Dining Plan.

Sure, the Disney Dining Plan can help you save money when you opt to buy it instead of paying out of pocket for every meal while you’re visiting Disney World. But those savings only appear if you know how to use the plan – and maximize its value.

With the Disney Dining Plan priced at $94.28 per day for adults and the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan priced at $57.01 per day, you’re investing a significant sum of money when you add either onto your vacation. While you have flexibility in how you use your meal credits and can pick and choose what’s most valuable to you, it’s important to know that there are some Disney Dining Plan moves that are just an absolute waste of money.

What are those mistakes? Below, we’re sharing the worst ways to use your Disney Dining Plan credits below so you can make the most out of your money and every meal.

Dining at Any and All 2-Credit Table-Service Restaurants

Le Cellier at EPCOT, restaurant sign

Yep, we’re talking about you, Cinderella’s Royal Table ! Disney Dining Plan credits lose a ton of value when they’re used at uber-expensive restaurants – and when you’re on the plan, “expensive” means anything more than one credit per person, per meal.

Certain highly popular or very exclusive restaurants at Disney World cost double on the Disney Dining Plan. Instead of using one table-service meal credit per person, they require two credits per person, per meal.

While this makes logical sense – after all, these restaurants are pretty expensive on their own when you’re paying cash – it’s hands down the worst way to spend your meal credits.

Remember, you’re paying over $94 per day, per adult for two meals (one quick-service, one table-service) on the Disney Dining Plan. If you break down the cost to roughly $25 for the quick-service credit (the average quick-service entrée cost) and $6 for a snack credit, that means each table-service meal credit costs you about $63.

At a restaurant that costs two table-service meal credits per person, that means you’re spending a whopping $126 per person.

So, if you’re dining at a restaurant that requires two table-service credits like Cinderella’s Royal Table – the most expensive character dining experience – you’re actually paying more when you use the dining plan versus paying out of pocket.

That same math applies to all of the other two-credit spots on the Disney Dining Plan too, like Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort or Le Cellier at EPCOT.

Using Credits at Lounges and Bars

Popping into one of Disney World’s many lounges or bars at the theme parks or hotels might sound like a great way to utilize your dining plan credits. Plus, if you can’t get a table-service restaurant reservation, lounges often serve some of the same food – like Banana Cabana serving dishes from Sebastian’s Bistro, or Crew’s Cup Lounge serving dishes from Yachtsman Steakhouse and Ale and Compass.

But using your Disney Dining Plan credits at any of Disney World’s lounges that participate in the plan is a terrible move. If you’re looking for value, you won’t get that by dining on credits here.

A table-service meal credit on the Disney Dining Plan normally includes a beverage (but not a specialty cocktail), an entrée, and a dessert. However, lounges don’t serve full entrées. Instead, they offer shareable plates, appetizers, or some form of light bites – meaning the portions are smaller.

And many lounges don’t serve dessert, which means you can’t order this key piece of your dining plan meal.

Ultimately, that means you’re paying a lot more for each table-service meal credit than your meal is worth when you’re using them at any lounge or bar. You aren’t getting the full value of those credits, which is essentially like throwing money away.

Spending Snack Credits on Bottled Water or Soda

Water cup and water bottle at EPCOT, Japan Pavilion

Both the Disney Dining Plan and the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan include a snack credit for each day of your vacation. Those snack credits can be used on all kinds of popular snacks, from popcorn and ice cream to fruit and even cups of soup. They can also be used on beverages – like bottled water or soda purchased anywhere across Disney World.

But I’m here to tell you spending your snack credits on a bottle of water or soda is a complete waste of money.

Sure, it’s convenient to use your snack credits and grab a basic beverage anywhere nearby. But your meal credits already come with a beverage… and every person on the dining plan gets a refillable resort mug that can be filled up with soda or water. Don’t like either of those approaches? You can get free ice water at any quick-service restaurant!

So, paying for a bottle of water or soda with a snack credit is a terrible way to use those credits. Plus, since each snack credit works out to about $6, you’re losing value. Bottled water and soda typically cost about $3.50, so you’re using just over half of your snack credit’s actual monetary value.

Cost to Park at Disney World

The cost for parking at Disney World recently increased which makes it a budget item that you need to pay attention to when saving for your trip.

Since I’m an Annual Passholder, I sometimes forget just how painful it can be adding parking to your Disney fees.

The rates to park at Disney World are always changing so, let’s go through a breakdown of what it currently costs for parking at Disney World .

Walt Disney World Parking Fees at the Theme Parks

One parking pass is good all day at all 4 theme parks:

  • Magic Kingdom Theme Park
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

How Much Does it Cost to Park at Disney World?

When you approach the theme park gates at Disney, you’ll notice three different options for parking fees.

1. Standard Parking: Car or Motorcycle – $30 per day

Standard parking at the Disney Parks may require you to be parked a little ways back from the gate.

Don’t worry, there are trams that can take you to the front area of the park at no additional fee.

Hipster Power Tip: Remember that the Magic Kingdom is the busiest theme park in the world so be sure to get there an hour and a half before to the gates open.

This may seem radical, but if you’re parking you have to take into consideration:

  • Finding a  parking space.
  • Getting on the  tram to the transportation ticket center.
  • Taking the monorail or boat over to the Magic Kingdom gates.  There can be a very long line to get on the monorail or the boat.
  • Getting through the ticket turnstiles. This may take a while due to new security safety measures of  having your bags checked.

2. Preferred Parking: Car or Motorcycle – $45 per day during non-peak seasons; $50 per day during peak seasons

This area is located the closest to the park front gates. Disney Cast Members will also give you a bottle of water when you choose this option.

Keep in mind that the prices for Preferred Parking do vary based on the season that you visit.

3. Oversized Vehicle Parking: Shuttle, Limo, Camper Trailer, RV, Bus or Tractor Trailer – $35 per day

This is a Disney parking fee that you will pay if you plan on parking one of these vehicles on property.

Can you leave Disney parking lot and come back?

You absolutely can!

When you pay for one parking pass, it’s good for the rest of the day at any of the four Walt Disney World Theme Parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom).

So, enjoy your park hopping adventure at Disney without paying extra to park.

Do Disney resort guests pay for parking?

According to  Disney , registered guests of Disney Resort Hotels, select Annual Passholders, Premium Passholders and Disney Premier Passport holders will have free standard self-parking at Disney Theme Parks.

They also go on to say that you can choose Preferred Parking by paying the difference in cost between the standard parking and preferred parking fee.

This comes out to about a $20-$25 difference if you go with this option.

You more about the Disney Resort hotel parking fees here.

How much does it cost to park at Disney Water Parks?

Standard parking at Disney’s Water Parks is free! These parks include:

  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
  • Blizzard Beach

How much does it cost to park at Disney Springs?

Standard self-parking is free at Disney Springs.

There are 3 parking garages and an additional 4 charging stations that are new on Level 3.

They are located in the Watermelon parking lot, and you can find them in front of Cirque du Soleil.

Disney Springs Parking Garages:

  • Lime Garage is closer to the offsite hotels in Disney Springs and is located near the LEGO Store, World of Disney, and the BOATHOUSE
  • Orange Garage is located near AMC Theater, the Coca-Cola Store, and Planet Hollywood
  • Grapefruit Garage is the newest garage that is located across the street from the Lime Garage and has a pedestrian bridge to cross the street over to Disney Springs

There are additional regular parking lots around Disney Springs which are:

Payment is usually collected when you pick up your car. Please keep in mind that gratuites are typically accepted.

Hipster Power Tip: If you have a special event, dining reservation, or concert that you need to be at, then you’ll want to arrive at Disney Springs an hour in advance to park and get situated.

What time can you park at Disney Springs?

You can start parking in the Disney Springs garages at 9 a.m. each day.

I do recommend checking the time before you go just to make sure it hasn’t changed.

How much does it cost to park at ESPN Wide World of Sports?

Standard self-parking is free at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

Can I park for free at Disney World?

You may be wondering if you can park at Disney Springs and go to the parks?

It’s definitely possible if you know how to do it the right way. Even with the high cost to park at Disney World, you can find ways to park for free at Disney which we will go into detail down below.

According to Disney , all Guests have complimentary acces s to their network of monorails, buses and boats.

How To Avoid Parking Fees At Disney World

As you can see from Disney’s official quote, you can use free parking at Disney Springs as a way to see the other resorts throughout Walt Disney World or visit multiple parks.

Now that you know this, it’s important to note that the Disney Springs buses do not go straight to the parks. However, they do run between Disney Springs and Disney Resort hotels.

They start running 45 minutes before Disney Springs opens and stop one hour after closing.

Once you have parked at one of the garages at Disney Springs, head over to the bus station.

You’ll then figure out which resort you need to be dropped off at based on your theme park choice for that day.

Disney World Transportation to the Parks from Disney Springs

Let’s go over how to get to the theme parks from Disney Springs.

Disney Springs to Magic Kingdom

You will need to take a bus to the to one of the Magic Kingdom resorts: Polynesian Resort, Contemporary Resort, or the Grand Floridian Resort.

The Contemporary Resort is the best place to be dropped off.

Here you can take a 10-minute walk over to the Magic Kingdom or hop on the monorail.

Disney Springs to Epcot

You will need to take a bus to one of the Epcot Resorts: The Boardwalk or the Yacht and Beach Club.

Once you arrive at one of the resorts you can take the boat or walk over to the back entrance of Epcot.

Disney Springs to Hollywood Studios

You will need to take a bus to one of the Epcot Resorts: The Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin Resort, or the Yacht and Beach Club.

Once you arrive at one of the resorts you can take the boat or walk over to the park entrance.

Disney Springs to Animal Kingdom

You will need to hop on a bus to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Once there, you can take a bus to Animal Kingdom theme park.

Can you park overnight at Disney Springs?

It is not recommended for you to park overnight at Disney Springs. Doing so may result in your vehicle being towed, which is the worst way to experience a Disney vacation.

Disney Springs is open Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Pros and Cons of Parking for Free at Disney World

The main benefit of parking at Disney Springs is the free cost. However, what you don’t pay with money you will pay with your time.

Parking at Disney Springs and taking the bus over to resorts to board another form of transportation can take away at least 2 hours from your day. Plus, Disney Springs usually doesn’t open until 9 a.m. which is too late for you to start your theme park day.

If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, then you know that one of my top tips for Disney is to get there early!

Parking this way will not do that for you.

Although Disney doesn’t offer any parking discounts and the thought of paying the $30 is tough to swallow, it will make your day much easier.

Is Preferred Parking worth it?

Preferred Parking at the Disney theme parks is not worth it. If you arrive early, you’ll be able to get a decent parking space.

Plus, Disney will always have a tram to come by your parking lot row to take you directly to the front of the gates.

Sabrina, Charli and Chappell are suddenly stars. Why now?

There were lime-green tube tops, lime-green beanies, lime-green hoodies and cowboy hats and sunglasses and at least one lime-green mesh vest like something an especially with-it street paver might wear. But even those not dressed in the glaring color of Charli XCX’s glaring new album, “Brat,” were showing their devotion to the English pop singer this month, shouting along with every word as she performed all 15 of the album’s tracks for a capacity crowd vibrating with excitement at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

“I don’t want to sing this one — I just want to hear you sing it,” she said before the beat of “ B2B ” kicked in at a pulverizing volume, and nearly every person in the room seemed overjoyed to oblige her.

With tickets going for hundreds of dollars over face value on the secondary market, this recent sold-out concert was a convocation of the ultra-loyal Charli XCX fans — Charli’s Angels, many call themselves — who’ve helped maintain her cult-fave status over the decade and change since she emerged in the early 2010s with appearances on hits like Icona Pop’s “ I Love It ,” which she co-wrote, and her own solo debut, “True Romance.” For almost Charli’s entire career, her tuneful yet edgy brand of electronic pop has held a distinct connoisseur’s appeal — a kind of if-you-know-you-know energy that’s endeared her only more deeply to her core following.

Yet signs keep mounting that the wider world is starting to pay attention.

The 24 best songs of 2024 so far

Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter — and, of course, “Not Like Us”: Here’s a look at the best songs of 2024 as we approach the year’s halfway mark.

June 7, 2024

“Brat,” Charli’s sixth studio LP, debuted last week at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, a career high for the 31-year-old musician. Reviews of “Brat” have been almost uniformly positive, including raves from the likes of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and the Guardian.

Lorde, about whom Charli is broadly thought to have written the song “Girl, So Confusing,” offered her take on Instagram, writing that “there is NO ONE like this b—”; the New Zealander then jumped on a remix of “Girl, So Confusing” that immediately racked up more than 5 million plays on Spotify after it dropped on Friday. And this fall, Charli will play arenas on a co-headlining tour with Troye Sivan.

For all her swagger at the Shrine, Charli on “Brat” anticipates the isolating experience of stardom; in the song “ Rewind, ” she’s already longing for the days “when I didn’t overanalyze my face shape” and when she “used to never think about Billboard.”

yacht club store disney

In fact, she’s not alone: Charli’s sudden ascent is just one of several we’re seeing this summer, including Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, both of whom are putting up huge numbers after years of work in the trenches of pop music.

This week, Carpenter’s song “Please Please Please” — a slinky yacht-rock jam about a famous woman’s anxieties regarding a public relationship — topped the Hot 100 in just its second week on the chart, followed closely at No. 4 by her frothy neo-disco smash “Espresso”; a few days before, San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival announced that it had tapped Carpenter, 25, as a last-minute headliner to replace Tyler, the Creator after he dropped out for unspecified reasons.

Roan, meanwhile, just entered the top 10 of Billboard’s album chart for the first time with her grandly theatrical 2023 LP, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” powered in large part by the 26-year-old’s much-discussed appearances at Coachella and New York’s Governors Ball festival. Asked by Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” the other day what it felt like to finally break through, Roan smiled and said , “It feels like I was right all along.”

So why now for these women — and in a year crowded with activity, no less, by veteran A-listers like Taylor Swift , Beyoncé and Billie Eilish ? One top pop songwriter, granted anonymity in order to speak candidly, points out that part of what’s happening is merely a course correction for a music industry that’s been starved for new superstars.

yacht club store disney

“The last one was Olivia Rodrigo, and that was almost four years ago — that’s not normal,” this person says. “There used to be at least one massive breakout every year, if not two.”

COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns deprived record labels access “to the traditional levers they used to be able to pull” to elevate young acts, the songwriter adds; TikTok filled the vacuum with short-lived hits by “random people in their bedroom — which is beautiful, but then you realize they’ve never played a show before and there’s nothing to fall in love with. It’s just a song, and you have no clue who’s singing it.”

Yet something connects Carpenter, Roan and Charli XCX in particular that’s clearly resonating with listeners. According to Michelle Jubelirer, the former Capitol Music Group chief executive who helped orchestrate the rise of Ice Spice , “They’re all incredibly strong, independent women who are a little brash and who build worlds and remain authentically themselves.” Jubelirer laughs. “It’s like, ‘We’re done with the bulls—,’” she says. “‘Accept us for who we are, or f— you.’”

That brashness doesn’t just manifest in the winking aggression of a song like Charli’s “ 360 ,” in which she promises to “shock you like defibrillators,” or “Please Please Please,” which has Carpenter warning her actor boyfriend not to embarrass her. It’s also in the forthright depiction of queer sex in Roan’s “Casual” and in the naked vulnerability of Charli’s “ I Think About It All the Time ,” a staticky ballad about how motherhood fits (or maybe doesn’t) into the life of an artist.

yacht club store disney

“I was walking around in Stockholm / Seriously thinking ’bout my future for the first time,” she sings, going on to recount a visit to friends with a new baby. “She’s a radiant mother and he’s a beautiful father / And now they both know these things that I don’t.”

Sturdily crafted yet rough around the edges, “I Think About It All the Time” reflects the frankly confessional nature of social media, which may be a reason Charli’s music is stirring up more passion than Dua Lipa’s comparatively streamlined “ Radical Optimism ,” to name one recent album by a far more famous pop singer that’s failed to connect with a mass audience this year.

Ditto, perhaps, for relatively underperforming LPs by Ariana Grande and Kacey Musgraves , both of which presented portraits of women who’d soul-searched their way to a state of emotional equilibrium — as opposed to people (à la Charli, Sabrina and Chappell) owning their unresolved desires and anxieties.

LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 14, 2023: Chappell Roan sits on a barstool at the Big Foot Lodge on August 14, 2023 in Los Angeles, CA. Her new album 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess' is coming out in September.(Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times)

Meet Chappell Roan, L.A.’s queer pop superstar in the making

After returning to L.A. following a near-fatal career setback, Chappell Roan came out, reinvented herself as a horny pop diva and became one of 2023’s rising stars.

Aug. 29, 2023

Of course, however happily messy they might appear, each of these ascendant pop stars has honed the ability to express that message through years of practice. Roan signed her first major-label deal almost a decade ago and moved to L.A. from her native Missouri in 2018; Carpenter, who has an album due in August, made her name on a Disney Channel series and released her debut full-length in 2015. As one seasoned insider puts it in regards to former kiddie-TV figures: “Fans grew up with them, so when they break, they’re more than a song because they’re already a part of your life. And the Disney girls are well trained: They can deliver when they need to.”

Indeed, as Jubilerer notes, Roan and Carpenter have consistently gone viral with performance clips that demonstrate their old-school stage talent — talent each of them got to expose to huge audiences on the road this year, Roan as an opening act for Rodrigo (with whom she shares a producer in Dan Nigro) and Carpenter as one of Swift’s openers on the record-breaking Eras tour .

Yet the stage is also where an experienced pro can come face to face with her disorienting new reality. Performing this month in North Carolina, Roan tearfully interrupted her set to tell her audience that she felt “a little off” because “my career is just kind of going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up.” She said she didn’t want to offer up “a lesser show” because of her feelings and added, “This is all I’ve ever wanted — it’s just heavy sometimes.”

The crowd promptly roared.
