First Sailboat Buying Advice
I've been looking for a few weeks now for a boat under $3,000 with a trailer and have come across a Pearson Triton 18 and a McVay Victoria 18. I am looking for advice based on the ideal boat for outlined below. The Pearson in particular has been difficult to find information on, I can really only ever find reviews on the larger Triton's.

The Ideal 18 does have nice lines, even looks like a fast boat, but in reality is very slow and is underpowered. I would look for an Impulse 21; awesome boat for single handing with a self tacking furling jib, and every major sail control led aft (and mostly underdeck) to a centerpod located directly in front of the helm.

Ideal 18
The Ideal 18 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fibreglass.It has a fractional sloop rig with aluminum spars and swept spreaders. The hull has a raked stem, a walk-through reverse transom, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a wooden tiller and a fixed fin keel.It displaces 1,240 lb (562 kg) and carries 700 lb (318 kg) of fibreglass-encased lead ballast.
Review of Ideal 18
The Ideal 18 is equipped with a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel. The boat can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 0.99 - 1.09 meter (3.25 - 3.55 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

I'm afraid I may have to sell my beloved Victoria 18 soon, as my wife just doesn't feel comfortable in it. the Vic is only 5.5' wide, so it is initially tender. With the 550b keel it firms up solid as a rock beyond 15* or so, but she just doesn't feel secure in it regardless.
