Building & Designing relating to Luxury Yacht OLSTEN

Moscow Shipyard was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel composition for OLSTEN. Also the company Moscow Shipyard successfully worked on this undertaking. Interior designer Moscow Shipyard was commissioned for the internal interior styling. Russia is the country that Timmerman Yachts built their new build motor yacht in. After her formal launch in 2004 in Moscow the boat was then handed over to the owner after final finishing. Her hull was constructed with steel. The motor yacht main superstructure is made predominantly from aluminium. With a width of 6.8 m or 22.31 feet OLSTEN has moderate internal space. A fairly shallow draught of 1.7m (5.56ft) affects the number of harbours she can berth in, taking into account their particular depth.

Engineering And The Speed The M/Y OLSTEN Can Reach:

The 3406E engine installed in the motor yacht is produced by CATERPILLAR. Connected to her Caterpillar engine(s) are twin screw propellers. The engine of the yacht creates 600 horse power (or 442 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The total thrust for the yacht is accordingly 1200 HP or 884 KW.

Superyacht boss asks why Bayesian crew were not in 'state of alert' for storm

Giovanni Costantino - boss of the firm which makes and sells vessels like the Bayesian - says they "are absolutely safe", suggesting human error was likely to blame for the sinking.

The boss of a firm which makes and sells vessels like Mike Lynch's sunken superyacht has questioned why its crew were not in a "state of alert" when a storm hit.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which owns the company that makes the Perini vessels, told Sky News they "are absolutely safe", suggesting human error was behind the boat going down.

He said the "event" that capsized the British-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday "could have been managed with an average amount of attention".

Follow latest: Five bodies identified

"There are a whole series of operations that highlight a chain of negative events that were negatively managed on board," he said.

"The first is why the ship and the crew were not in a state of alert, given the storm from the weather charts that everyone could read and in particular had to be read by the ship's bridge guard, the event was absolutely readable and expected."

He said the yacht's crew should have been in a state of "alert management", meaning everyone on board had to be in the main lounge, which is the assembly point, rather than their cabins.

No one should have been on deck, while the captain, James Cutfield, should have been inside with the engines to manage the ship, he said.

"The ship, both the hull and the quarterdeck, all the openings, were supposed to be closed," he added.

Pic:Perini Navi/The Italian Sea Group

No official cause has been given for why the boat sank as powerful winds battered the area overnight and reports of waterspouts, which are like tornados that form over water.

Some experts have speculated the vessel may have taken on water from a freak wave through open hatches or doors or capsized as gusts hit the huge mast.

Prosecutors investigating the sinking are continuing to question the survivors, with the captain among those to be interviewed.

Mr Costantino asked: "Why was the ship in that situation? The storm was readable… We must ask ourselves why none of the fishermen in the port of Porticello went out at sea that night? Why did no one go out to sea?

"Everyone knew about the storm. And then, if a fisherman knew, why the commander of a ship of such importance, with guests of such level and importance, with 12 guests on board... Why wasn't he in an alert situation?"

The vessel sank in as little as 60 seconds with 22 people on board, 12 passengers and a crew of 10, according to the Italian coastguard.

Six bodies have been found, including British tech tycoon Mr Lynch, while his 18-year-old daughter Hannah is still missing.

Mr Costantino has insisted there are no flaws with the design and construction of the yacht and that the Perini vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense", with their structure and keel making them what he called "unsinkable bodies".

He said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the sinking, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

A spokesperson for the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said: "The MAIB is investigating the foundering of the UK-registered large yacht Bayesian off the northern coast of Sicily on 19 August 2024.

"It would not be appropriate for the MAIB to comment further while the investigation is ongoing."

Sky News has also contacted Italian investigators, Italy's coastguard and captain James Cutfield for comment.

Weeks Before Mike Lynch Died in Yacht Sinking, He Spoke About Making the Most of 'Second Life'

Lynch was looking forward to "making up for lost time" with his family, a reporter who spoke to the businessman about his acquittal tells PEOPLE

senses yacht interior

Simon Dawson/Bloomberg via Getty

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch spoke about having a new lease on life and how he was looking forward to spending time with his family in the weeks before his death, according to a journalist who spoke with Lynch about his life after being acquitted of fraud.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, an Italian government official said Lynch's body had been retrieved  from the luxury yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily  days earlier, while his family and friends were celebrating his legal victory.

PEOPLE previously reported that  five bodies had been found  in the days after the  Bayesian  went into the water.

Although the Italian coast guard has not formally identified the bodies that have been recovered, an official with the Italian interior ministry,  confirmed to Reuters  that Lynch was one of the victim's found while his  daughter Hannah remained missing .

The father-daughter pair had been among six passengers missing in the aftermath of the sinking, while Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, was one of 15 people who were rescued.

The remaining victims reported as missing were Christopher Morvillo , a New York City attorney, his wife, jewelry designer Neda Morvillo; as well as Chairman of Morgan Stanley International Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife, Judy .

The body of victim, identified as chef Recaldo Thomas , was recovered shortly after the yacht went down.

In the weeks before the ill-fated trip, Lynch's life changed after being acquitted of multiple fraud and conspiracy charges following a lengthy legal battle.

Speaking with The Sunday Times in an interview that was published on July 27, the father of two said that when the verdict came in, it felt like he had been given a "second life."

But, he added, "The question is, what do you want to do with it?”

Chris Ratcliffe/Bloomberg via Getty

In 2018, federal prosecutors in California indicted Lynch on several counts of securities fraud and conspiracy, per the  Associated Press  and the  BBC . The indictment related to the 2011 sale of Autonomy, a business software company he founded, for $11 billion to Hewlett Packard, per the AP.

At the time, the sale made him one of the richest people in the U.K., according to CBS News .

Lynch, who faced spending up to 25 years in U.S. prison, spent years fighting extradition, according to the BBC. Last May, he was finally extradited from Britain and then spent 13 months under house arrest while waiting for the trial to begin, per The Sunday Times .

“If this had gone the wrong way, it would have been the end of life as I have known it in any sense," Lynch told the outlet , noting at another point that he also had "various medical things that would have made it difficult to survive."

The trial began in 2024 and in June, he was acquitted on all 15 counts.

As he wondered what he would do with his freedom, he even told the newspaper he was interested in creating a British equivalent to the American nonprofit the Innocence Project .

Graham Barclay/Bloomberg via Getty

Speaking with PEOPLE before Lynch's body was recovered, Danny Fortson — who interviewed Lynch for the  The Sunday Times  — said that he felt the businessman was "excited and very thankful," but also still "struggling to accept" his new reality after such a sudden change.

He was also looking forward to "making up for lost time" with his family.

"This case, especially as it got closer to trial, became all-encompassing and so he missed out on a lot of stuff with his daughters," the journalist added.

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

According to The Sunday Times , Hannah was set to study poetry at Oxford while her older sister, 21, was studying physics at Imperial College, just like her father.

Hannah's disappearance left her former school Latymer Upper School in London "incredibly shocked."

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE before her body was found, a spokesperson said, "our thoughts are with their family and everyone involved as we await further updates."

Italians Love This Lake Como Alternative — and It Has an Incredible Luxury Hotel

Cape of Senses is a five-star hotel on Lake Garda, a less-touristy and cheaper alternative to Lake Como just two hours north of Milan.

Hannah Freedman is a travel writer and commerce content strategist for Dotdash Meredith. She has visited more than 50 countries (and counting) and has contributed to outlets including Vanity Fair , Travel + Leisure , Thrillist , and more.

Food and Drink

Activities and amenities, family-friendly offerings, accessibility and sustainability, how to get the most value out of your stay.

Alex Moling/COURTESY OF Cape of Senses

When I first saw Cape of Senses' lake and mountain views from the floor-to-ceiling windows leading from the lobby to the terrace (my welcome sparkling wine in hand), I practically had to pinch myself. The setting was so dreamy.

While nearby Lake Como is more “known” among Americans, Lake Garda is a worthy under-the-radar gem. It’s generally a cheaper and less touristy area than Como — though no less stunning. “This is where Italians come for vacation,” Alena Deutsch, the hotel's general manager, tells me.

The adults-only fairytale escape is just two hours north of Milan , and while Cape of Senses is still an indulgent luxury stay, similarly luxe hotels on Lake Como, like the iconic Grand Hotel Tremezzo, start at well over $1,000 per night for lake-view rooms on summer weekends.

Cape of Senses opened last May and is aptly named: All five senses will be pampered and indulged throughout your stay. Every room has stunning lake views to feast your eyes on; fresh mountain air fills your nose and lungs, and gentle notes from the on-site olive trees waft through the breeze. You can listen to birds chirping and guests splashing in the pool from your private room terrace or enjoy absolute silence for deep and peaceful rest; get every kink worked out with a massage followed by relaxing in the sauna or indoor-outdoor heated spa pool; and when it comes to the taste, everything on the menu is local, fresh, and divine. Even simple dishes like a prosciutto and melon pool snack featured some of the juiciest melon I’ve ever had and melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto — not to mention the fresh, warm bread paired with olive oil from the olive trees.

Even the water is special here — and I don’t just mean that found in the lake or the heated pools. A new bottle of housemade infused water is brought to the room every morning, with a tag — “Homemade with amore" — tied around the bottle with a white ribbon. Whether it’s the love or the fruit and herbs, it’s extra delicious, and I looked forward to greedily gulping down big glasses of it every day.

Elevated touches like this are, dare I say, infused throughout the entire property. From the luxurious his-and-hers down comforters to the locally made, organic bath products to the comfy sun loungers dotted with black and white pool towels and all positioned for optimal views, every detail is carefully curated and lovingly thought through.

As testament to this, when the hotel was still under construction, Deutsch took one of the tabletops in her car while driving around the area to ensure the cutlery she picked out would go perfectly with the color of the wood. “Not everyone always notices these small details outright,” Deutsch tells me, “but I think when everything is special and thought out, a lasting impression is left on the guests.”

Having just stayed here for three days, I can confirm firsthand that this hotel indeed leaves a lasting impression that will make you want to return again and again. Read on for my full hotel review of Cape of Senses on Lake Garda in Italy.

Cape of Senses

  • All rooms have stunning panoramic lake and mountain views.
  • Wellness and relaxation are at the forefront via an infinity pool, lap pool, sauna, spa treatments, relaxation rooms, guided meditations, and more.
  • Bikes and Vespas are available to rent to zip down and take a dip in the lake or explore nearby wineries.
  • The food is fresh and locally sourced (table olive oil is made from the onsite olive trees); half- or full-board options are available for meals.

senses yacht interior

There are no bad rooms here. Since this is an all-suite property and every room has panoramic lake and mountain views, you don’t need to pay extra for a room upgrade to see a sliver of the main attraction.

Room decor features a neutral but luxe palette: hardwood floors, slate-gray chairs and bed frames, cozy, sand-colored loungers, and gold accent pillows. Terraces feature comfy couches and small black metal tables with wicker chairs, which are just right for starting your day with a warm espresso from the in-room moka pot while enjoying the view.

The king-sized bed was incredibly cozy, with two fluffy duvets and sumptuous down pillows. Even though our room and terrace were quite close to one of the on-site pools, we couldn’t hear a peep from outside when the sliding glass doors were shut.

The bathrooms are equally luxurious, with deep sinks, marbled showers with overhead and handheld showerheads, and separate areas for the toilet. The main rooms also have small, built-in wooden desks with round vanity mirrors and a swivel chair, making for an ideal extra getting-ready spot.

Even entry-level junior suites are practically palatial at 540 square feet and come with large private terraces to boot. Upgrading to a standard or spa suite will net you 100 or 200 extra square feet, respectively, but it’s the hotel's Sky and Sky Pool suites where the upgrade 'wow' factor comes into play. Located on higher floors, the Sky suites feature expansive private outdoor terraces complete with daybeds and hot tubs, while Sky Pool and Deluxe Sky Pool suites, as you may have guessed, feature stunning private infinity pools. Other upgrades in this category include larger rooms and deep soaking tubs positioned to take in the lake view.

Start your morning with breakfast on the terrazza from the buffet or a la carte menu. Or, opt for a private meal on your balcony with room service. Fresh seasonal fruit, deliciously flaky pastries, eggs and milk from local farms, and Italian sausage are all on the menu.

Later, grab a bite at Osteria La Pergola, where you can sit poolside or upstairs while enjoying a club sandwich or bowl of spaghetti with cherry tomato sauce and buffalo stracciatella. Even simple favorites here, like prosciutto with melon or a Caesar salad, are exceptional versions of the classics.

At Restaurant Al Tramonto, the exceptional sunset view from the dining terrace is the main course. Still, fine dining-worthy options like potato dumplings filled with roasted cuttlefish or duck leg in an anchovy sauce will leave your stomach plenty satiated, too.

Cape of Senses offers two pools. Relax and float in the indoor-outdoor pool that starts inside at the spa level and ends as a gorgeous outdoor infinity pool, looking directly at the best mountain and lake view, or swim a few laps in the nearby outdoor sports pool. Of course, sitting in the lounge chairs around the pools and garden lawn with a good book is also an option.

The gym has everything you need to keep your body healthy, from stationary bikes and treadmills to weight machines. Private yoga sessions and personal trainers are also available for booking.

While I certainly enjoyed my blissful massage and a dip in the pool, perhaps my favorite amenity was the cherry red e-Vespas, available to rent by the hour or for the half or full day. I lived out my Lizzie McGuire Italian fantasies, zooming down the winding roads and zipping around the lake. Though, if the Vespas aren’t quite your speed, the hotel also has an electric Fiat 500 and several bikes available instead.

The hotel concierge is also more than happy to arrange tours and activities for you, from tastings at nearby wineries to a day sailing out on the lake or a ride in a vintage car.

Wellness is at the heart of the property, so the spa does not disappoint. Seven treatment rooms offer a range of options, from classic massages and anti-aging facials to anti-cellulite body treatments and massages that incorporate Tibetan singing bowls. Manicures and pedicures are also available at the spa, plus a relaxation room complete with a spa library and a sauna and steam room.

Before or after your treatment, I recommend stopping by the tea corner and cozying up in the cushy indoor daybeds, which overlook the pool and the lake view beyond.

The hotel is open to guests 14 and up. Small dogs are allowed in dedicated dog-friendly rooms for those traveling with four-legged family members.

Preserving the surrounding area's natural beauty was ingrained in the hotel concept from the beginning. The hotel was also built with sustainable technologies in mind and uses heat pumps, solar panels, and rainwater collectors to minimize the energy footprint.

Meanwhile, interiors rely heavily on regionally sourced materials, and the hotel owners and architects prioritized 100 percent made-in-Italy products, from wooden outdoor furniture to stone tiles. The hotel also works with environmentally friendly companies for its cleaning products and works to minimize plastic consumption as much as possible across the entire hotel.

Cape of Senses also has ADA-compliant, handicap-accessible suites and bathrooms available.

Cape of Senses is roughly two hours from Milan and less than 40 minutes from the Verona airport. It overlooks the town of Torri del Benaco, and other small cities like Garda and Bardolino are within a short drive. However, the hotel's real draw is that it is secluded and not right in town. Being higher up in the hills above the lake allows for optimal views, but be aware that you won’t be right on the lake, and you’ll need to drive down some steep and winding roads to get there.

Sirmione, a historic town where you can explore 13th-century castles, makes for an excellent day trip. It is about 40 minutes away by car. We also spent a lovely afternoon set up by the hotel concierge at Zeni winery nearby Bardolino, enjoying a wine tasting in their beautiful cellar.

While you can always rent the hotel’s Vespas or Fiat for the day to head into town or down to the lake, I recommend renting a car for ease and flexibility.

Breakfast-only and half-board (breakfast and dinner) options are available when booking. If you plan on eating most of your meals on-site, opt for the half-board to reduce a la carte food charges.

The hotel also offers special packages designed around wellness or staying active, including spa treatments or activities like e-bike tours. Cape of Senses also has a sister property in the Dolomites, ALPIANA , and you can pair the two together as a five-night stay in a special Mountain & Lake package .

Moscow sees one of Ukraine’s largest drone attacks as fighting rages in Kursk and eastern Ukraine

MOSCOW (AP) — Moscow came under one of the largest attacks by Ukrainian drones since the start of fighting in 2022, Russian authorities reported Wednesday, saying they destroyed all of those headed toward the capital. The drone attacks come as Ukrainian forces are continuing to push into Russia’s western Kursk region. In the past week, they have also struck three bridges, several airfields and an oil depot in a sign they are not letting up on their attacks.“This was one of the biggest attempts of all time to attack Moscow using drones,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on his Telegram channel. He said strong defenses around the capital made it possible to shoot down all the drones before they could hit their intended targets.Russia said it downed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 11 over the Moscow region. There was no independent information to verify those figures. Some Russian social media channels shared videos of drones apparently being destroyed by air defense systems, which then set off car alarms. While Ukraine has been bogged down in a land conflict in eastern Ukraine in which the Russians have been driving forward slowly at a heavy cost to both sides, both countries have been been sending drones deep into each other’s territory.Ukrainian drone strikes have brought the fight far from the front line into the heart of Russia, targeting the Russian capital and second city St. Petersburg , and an airport in Western Russia , according to Russian officials.Since the beginning of this year, Ukraine has stepped up aerial assaults on Russian soil, targeting refineries and oil terminals to slow down the Kremlin’s assault.A fire at an oil depot targeted by Ukraine burned for the fourth day Wednesday in Rostov, a region in southwestern Russia that borders Ukraine. Priests from the Russian Orthodox Church held a prayer service for injured firefighters as dark plumes of smoke rose in the distance at the oil depot in Proletarsk, according to a photo shared on social media by the Volgodonsk diocese.Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 69 drones and three missiles at Ukraine overnight, describing it as Russia’s biggest drone attack so far in August. Ukraine said its air defenses shot them down and no casualties or destruction were reported. Ukraine’s daring land incursion into Russia has raised morale in Ukraine with its surprising success and changed the dynamic of the fighting. But it’s uncertain how long Ukraine will be able to hold the territory it has seized in Kursk. It has opened up another front in a fight where Ukrainian forces were already badly stretched, with active hostilities taking place along more than 970 kilometers (600 miles). The gains in Kursk come as Ukraine continues to lose ground in its eastern industrial region of Donbas. The Russian state news agency Tass reported that 31 people had died since Ukraine’s attack on Russia began Aug. 6, figures which are impossible to verify. It said 143 people had suffered injuries, of whom 79 were hospitalized, including four children.A Ukrainian drone dropped an explosive device on a car in the Bolshesoldatsky area of Kursk region, slightly northeast of the town of Sudzha, the acting governor Alexei Smirnov said. One woman was killed immediately and two others were hospitalized, he said.Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said Ukraine’s attack on Kursk has ended “any possibility” of peace negotiations.“Who will negotiate with them after this, after the atrocities, the terror that they are committing against peaceful residents, the civilian population, civilian infrastructure and peaceful facilities,” she said at a briefing Wednesday in Moscow.Ukraine said it was respecting the Geneva Conventions, the international humanitarian rules of war. Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said Kyiv established an office in the Kursk region to provide humanitarian and medical aid to the local population. More than 90% of the Russian civilians who stayed in territories of the Kursk region currently controlled by Ukraine are aged 60 and older, he said.“We have no right to leave them there to die,” Klymenko said, according to the Ukrinform national news agency. Ukraine’s attacks on three bridges over the Seym River in Kursk could potentially trap Russian forces between the river, the Ukrainian advance and the Ukrainian border. Already they appear to be slowing down Russia’s response to the Kursk incursion.Ukrainian forces appear to be striking Russian pontoon bridges and pontoon engineering equipment over the Seym in an area west of the Ukrainian advance point, the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War said Tuesday.Satellite photos from Planet Labs PBC analyzed Wednesday by The Associated Press showed a significant fire on the Seym near the village of Krasnooktyabrskoe. The blaze appeared on the northern bank of the river on Tuesday, with another fire seemingly in the village itself. Such fires are common after strikes and often signify where ongoing front-line combat is taking place. The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had thwarted attack attempts by Ukrainian assault groups in the Kursk region, according to a report from Tass. Ukraine’s armed forces saw more than 45 soldiers killed or wounded over the past 24 hours while two were captured while attempting to attack the Kursk region, Tass said. There was no independent confirmation of those numbers and no comment from the Ukrainian side.Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Army General Staff said it struck a Russian S-300 defense system Wednesday some 200 kilometers (125 miles) behind enemy lines in Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region. It said Russia had used the S-300 system for ground strikes at Ukrainian troops and peaceful cities, “destroying residential buildings and terrorizing the civilian population.”___Associated Press writer Jon Gambrell in Dubai, United Arab Emirates contributed to this report.
