Just the thought of rocking to sleep on a floating house can be soothing. Residents sway when talking of the other perks of living on the water: Dining on a dock, sightseeing from a lofty perch.
The once-humble fishing shack has evolved into million-dollar abodes with saunas and hot tubs. But don't call them houseboats: A floating home is anchored to a slip that can cost $100,000 to $250,000, depending on the moorage, location and if a garage is included.
In this week's real estate gallery, we look at floating homes for sale, from fancy to fixer-upper funky.

Divine NW Realty
The Oregon Yacht Club community, on the sunny, east side of the Willamette River with views of downtown Portland and Ross Island, adjoins eight acres bordered by the Springwater Corridor a nd Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood.
The historic yacht club offers slip ownership, granting owners a share of the corporation. Homeowners association dues are about $510 a month.
One of 38 floating homes in the Oregon Yacht Club is 6901 S.E. Oaks Park Way #15 , which is for sale at $1.15 million.
The two-story floating home, built in 1981, has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and 3,254 square feet of living space plus a guest house and a deck with a boat lift, says listing agent Karla Divine of Divine NW Realty.

The 225-square-foot kitchen has new cabinets, granite and wood counters, stainless-steel appliances and a tile floor.
The 630-square-foot master suite has a wall of windows, framing the river view.
The upgraded master bathroom has a soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower.
The floating house includes a tender with a separate guest house.
The water space is 110 feet by 45 feet, plus there's an additional 18 feet where the tiny house, or accessory dwelling unit (ADU), is located.
Here's another floating house for sale: 6901 S.E. Oaks Park Way #25 , which is also in the Oregon Yacht Club, is listed at $1.11 million, by the same listing agent, Karla Divine of Divine NW Realty.
The main residence has hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings and a cat patio, or "catio," on the front of house.
The two-story, custom house, constructed in 2002, has two bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an infrared sauna and 2,537 square feet of living space plus a huge deck with built-in seating and a tender that can be used for a workshop, storage or a separate living quarters (ADU).
The 156-square-foot kitchen has granite counters, tile floors and stainless-steel appliances.
Windows ribbon the top of the tall walls, allowing natural light to enter the rooms.
The master bathroom has a deep soaking tub.
People on the deck can watch birds and boats go by.

Here's another floating house: 2630 N. Hayden Island Dr. Unit SP06 in Portland is listed at $836,000. The two-story, contemporary home, built in 2003 and moored at the West Hayden Island Moorage on the Columbia River, has three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 3,536 square feet of living space plus a large studio, swim float and slip and garage ownership, says listing agent Graham Marden of Premiere Property Group.
Here's another floating house: 18525 N.E. Marine Dr. Unit B6 in North Gresham on the Columbia River is listed at $775,000. The home, built in 2011 on a cement float by Marc Even of Even Construction, has three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and 3,214 square feet of living space plus river views from three decks and a finished boat well with heating and air conditioning, says listing agent Graham Marden of Premiere Property Group.
Here's another floating house: 400 N. Tomahawk Island Dr . in Portland is listed at $699,900. The home, built in 1930 and moored at Hayden Island, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,806 square feet of living space plus a balcony and deck, says listing agent John McPherson of Premiere Property Group.

Here's another floating house: 415 N. Bridgeton Road #1 in Portland is listed at $649,000. The two-story home, built in 1960 and moored on an outside corner slip in the Bridgeton neighborhood on the Columbia River, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,647 square feet of living space plus a deck, swim float and slip ownership with four other owners, says listing agent Walter Valenta of Harbor Properties.
Here's another floating house: 18525 N.E. Marine Dr Unit B5 on the Columbia River in North Gresham is listed at $549,000. The home, built in 2008, has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 1,951 square feet of living space plus slip ownership on both sides of the walkway and an RV-size gated parking spot on Marine Dr., says listing agent Graham Marden of Premiere Property Group.

Here's another floating house: 2630 N. Hayden Island Dr. #54 in Portland is listed at $499,500. The home, built in 2006 and moored at the West Hayden Island Moorage on the Columbia River, has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,395 square feet of living space plus main and upper level cedar decks, slip ownership, two-car garage and HydroHoist boat lift, says listing agent Nic Isfeld of Better Homes & Gardens Realty.
Here's another floating house: 27448 N.W. St Helens Road #394 in Scappoose is listed at $350,000. The fixer upper, built in 1982 and moored in a down river, inside end slip, has one bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms and 2,744 square feet of living space, says listing agent John McPherson of Premiere Property Group.
Here's the last in our list of floating houses for sale: 11620 N. Island Cove Lane in Portland is listed at $$139,900. The single-story home, built in 1940 and moored on a Columbia River moorage between downtown Portland and downtown Vancouver, has two bedrooms, one bathroom and 1,364 square feet of living space, says listing agent Graham Marden of Premiere Property Group.

In addition to safe and secure moorage for your boathouse, sailboats and powerboats we hope to provide an enjoyable place to relax and enjoy your investment. There is a boat launching ramp and public restrooms located just to the east available to all. The Dalles Yacht Club (link) provides fuel and pump out facilities. The Port of the Dalles (link) offers transient moorage and a convenient base for accessing supplies on the Riverfront Walking Path to downtown

The Dalles Yacht Club
The fuel facility at the Marina is owned by The Dalles Yacht Club as a convenience to it’s members and as such it is only open when a member of the club is in the vicinity of the marina.
As a courtesy to travelers on the Columbia River and other visiting yacht club members, this fuel can be obtained by contacting any The Dalles Yacht Club members present in the marina. No fueling requests will be granted after 9 p.m. on any day. The phone numbers below are made available to assist you in making a pre-arranged fueling appointment (highly recommended).

Guest Moorage
Guest moorage is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required.
Daily rate: $10 per day
Fees for guest moorage are collected on an honor basis by placing the fees in the collection box located on the main dock near guest moorage.
