Sailing yacht RADIANCE (ex DAMAHWIL) is a striking performance luxury sloop, built in the Netherlands by Bayards Shipyard to naval architecture by Dubois Naval Architects and interiors by Rizzo under the supervision of Antonio Costamante. She was launched in 2010 and refitted in 2020, offering beautiful interior and exterior spaces for up to 7 guests, sleeping in 4 cabins. There is a crew of 5 on board.

NOTABLE FEATURES OF RADIANCE: ~Refitted in 2020 ~Beautiful light-filled contemporary interiors ~Abundance on indoor/outdoor lounges ~Plenty of sunbathing areas ~Large fold-out swim platform ~Wine storage for up to 100 bottles ~Twin cabin convertible to mini gym ~Large variety of water toys ~Air conditioning ~Wi-Fi

The main deck aft cockpit provides a shaded space beneath the canvas bimini for outdoor living and alfresco dining, with the port side offering a plush sofa/sunbed and a starboard C-shaped sofa with an elegant raised table. Aft of the cockpit are the helm controls with spongy sofa seating, and the stern has corner benches to rest and take in the surroundings.

The foredeck area in front of the salon is fitted with double sunbeds, and the area stretching to the bow has been left clear for crew operations, outdoor exercise and observation. One final sunbathing area can be found on top of the coach roof, where the sun-exposed triple sunbed is a secluded spot with uninterrupted views of the surroundings.

The lower deck hosts the guest and crew accommodation, with the engine room aft and the salon amidships. The lower lounge places the formal dining area to starboard and consists of a C-shaped sofa, an elevated table and additional chairs for intimate meals in air conditioned surroundings. After a large meal, guests can rest with a film on the U-shaped sofa-setting to port, where there are two drinks tables, a widescreen TV is placed on the aft wall and four Waterfall speakers.

The upper lounge benefits from 360 degree windows for excellent views and plenty of natural light. The helm controls are forward to port, and behind on both sides is an L-shaped sofa and coffee table laid out for symmetry, creating understated elegance.

37m Bayards sailing yacht Radiance finds new owner

The 37 metre Radiance has been sold with Tim Carbury at Fraser Palma representing the seller and Bernard Gallay from Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage introducing the buyer.

Built in aluminium by Dutch yard Bayards Shipyard to a design by the inimitable Dubois Naval Architects , Radiance was delivered in 2010 as a fast cruiser/racer and most recently refitted in 2019. With a sloop rigging, she has been optimised for sailing short-handed by the inclusion of simplified sailing systems.

Her voluminous interior, finished in teak panelling, can accommodate up to eight guests in four comfortable cabins including a full-beam master suite. All cabins come with en suite shower facilities. Southeast Asian touches are an underlying influence throughout.

She features two decks including a raised saloon and a fixed bimini top over the cockpit, which has mechanically operated sliding windows. There is ample stowage forward of the mast and a fold-down bathing platform.

Radiance has a fixed keel and is equipped with a carbon mast, Oceanfurl boom and SCR continuous airfoil carbon rigging from Hall Spars as well as a full set of 3D moulded lightweight sails consisting of main, genoa, jib and staysail provided by North Sails. Under power, a 540hp Caterpillar engine gives her a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Radiance was asking €6,400,000.

Shannon soon turned this experience into her career and learned that she could combine her love of travel and sailing, by working as a chef on board yachts. She started as a stewardess & crew chef on large motor yachts where she always offered to help the owner & guest chef in the galley and continued to learn as much as possible. Since joining RADIANCE, Shannon has been expanding her skill set further and is currently working on perfecting authentic Italian cuisine while also learning to speak Italian. According to Shannon – being able to enjoy a career on the water while giving others a memorable experience through food, travel and laughter is something she truly values more than anything else. Shannon speaks English & Italian.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Daisy Kelliher Reveals Sister Was in a Serious Moped Accident

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Daisy Kelliher Reveals Sister Was in a Serious Moped Accident

Below Deck Sailing Yacht ’s Daisy Kelliher says it’s a “miracle” that her sister is alive after she was involved in a serious accident while traveling in Thailand.

Daisy, 37, shared the news in two posts via Instagram, in which she outlined how a moped accident landed her sister Bonnie in the hospital, needing surgeries on her chest, face and brain.

The chief stew, who has been on board Sailing Yacht since season 2, says the accident happened last Thursday, June 13, and that by Saturday, her parents were on a plane to Thailand. Daisy joined them on Wednesday.

“I…sat by her side on her 34th birthday, with the extent of her injuries it’s quite a miracle she’s alive and we all feel optimistic and positive with time she will make a full recovery,” Daisy wrote in her second post , adding a safety message for future travelers.

She continued, “The only reason I am sharing this information (with my families permission) is to promote a few things. For anyone who might see this who is going on holiday or travelling or anything like this. Please don’t get on the moped and if you do wear a helmet and have insurance (no helmet, no insurance). My family have seen several people over the weeks be admitted and not all have been as lucky as Bonnie. Also always look out for your friends. If it hadn’t have been for Bonnie’s friend who she met out here things could have been different. It was her who realised Bonnie didn’t come home, who found her in the hospital (as she had no phone) and was able to reach us. If it wasn’t for her things could have been different.”

The accompanying photos show Daisy and Bonnie drinking by a pool, posing for selfies and spending time with friends. The two posts have garnered more than 2,000 comments, many of them from friends and fans wishing Bonnie well.

Glenn Shephard , who has served as the captain on Sailing Yacht since season 1 , was one of the first to comment. He said that he lost a “close friend” in a “very similar situation” and echoed Daisy’s support for helmets.

“Scooters and motorcycles scare the s–t out of me, it’s usually someone else’s fault but with zero protection, it often doesn’t end well,” he wrote. “Stay away from them and if you have to ride one definitely with a helmet and insurance.”

Daisy also praised hospital staff as Bonnie has moved from the ICU to a “normal room.” She expects her sister to stay in the hospital for at least another two weeks.

“Bonnie is in a fantastic hospital and the staff have been incredible,” she wrote. “There’s a long road to recovery but we have had so much support.”

She concluded: “We hope by sharing this story it may save a life or save another person or family having to go through this. We can’t quite believe how close we were to losing her.”

The Alternative to Huge Cruises? 3 Masts, 28 Sails and Wind Power.

We checked out the 136-passenger Sea Cloud Spirit on a Mediterranean cruise. In this era of gargantuan ships, its elegant clipper design, wooden decks and relatively small size stands out.

By Ceylan Yeğinsu

From the bridge of the three-masted windjammer, the Sea Cloud Spirit , the captain called out the words we’d all been waiting for.

“Let’s set the sails!” he cried, after turning off the engines, while maneuvering to maintain an optimum angle for his 18 deckhands to climb into the shrouds and unfurl the ship’s 44,132 square feet of sails by hand.

Like acrobats, the crew scurried up the masts to the upper topgallant sails that rose nearly 200 feet above us. The ship’s captain, Vukota Stojanovic, later insisted that none of it was for show. “Whenever there is an opportunity to sail, we sail,” he said.

For the next hour, the crew hauled the ropes until the 28 sails were billowing in the wind, propelling the 452-foot-long ship — the world’s largest passenger sailing vessel on which the sails are raised by hand — toward its first port of call, Portofino, Italy.

At a time when cruise lines are packing their ever-more-gargantuan ships with water parks and basketball courts, the 136-passenger Sea Cloud Spirit, with its old-fashioned clipper design and wooden decks, stands out. It is the newest ship from the Hamburg-based Sea Cloud Cruises , and while it is the company’s biggest, Sea Cloud said it wanted to leave space for passengers to connect to the surrounding elements.

“Wherever you are on the ship, it feels like you are sitting on the water,” said Amelia Dominick, 71, a retired real estate agent from Cologne, Germany, who was on her third cruise onboard the Sea Cloud Spirit.

I had arrived for a four-night “taster sailing” from Nice, France, to the Ligurian region of Italy, designed to entice passengers to sign up for a longer cruise. Here’s what I found.

The ship and cabins

The Spirit has many comforts and luxuries, including a fitness center, library, hair salon and a spa with a Finnish sauna that overlooks the sea. The deck layouts are spacious, with nooks carved out for privacy and relaxation.

Sixty-nine spacious cabins have windows that open onto the sea. My room, a junior suite on the third deck, had two large arched windows, mahogany tables, a balcony and a comfortable couch and armchair. The marble bathroom was lavish, with a gold-plated sink and large jetted bathtub.

The elegant interior design is inspired by the original Sea Cloud, built in 1931 for Marjorie Merriweather Post, the American heiress of the General Foods Corporation, with glossy wooden panels and gold trimmings. The Sea Cloud was the largest private sailing yacht in the world before Post handed it over to the U.S. Navy for use as a weather-reporting vessel during World War II. The four-mast, 64-passenger ship has since been restored to its former glory and will sail across the Aegean and Adriatic this summer.

sail yacht radiance

The experience felt authentic — even before the sails were set — with a detailed safety drill. On most cruises, the drill entails a safety video and signing in at an assembly point. But here, passengers put on their life jackets and walked through emergency scenarios that included rationing food supplies and fishing from the lifeboat.

Each day, the sails were set, even during heavy rain and wind speeds over 30 knots. Guests wanting to participate in the rigging are usually invited to do so, but the weather conditions made it too risky for this sailing.

“It was amazing to watch the work go into putting the sails up and down and to experience the wind power pulling the ship so fast without the engines,” said Malte Rahnenfuehrer, a 50-year-old psychologist from Zurich, who was traveling with his partner and two children.

A man with dark hair wears navy blue and white clothing as the captain of a large windjammer sailing vessel. He stands on deck, a walkie-talkie-like device in his hand, beneath the ropes and riggings of the vessel's sails.

The captain

It is rare for cruise passengers to see the ship’s captain after the initial welcome drinks or gala dinner. But Capt. Vukota Stojanovic was omnipresent throughout the cruise, from setting sails to lifeguarding to mingling with guests.

Originally from Montenegro, Captain Stojanovic piloted container ships for years. When he was asked to consider helming the original Sea Cloud nearly 10 years ago, he hesitated because he had no experience sailing. Even after he learned the ropes — and there are 340 ropes (known as running rigging) on the vessel — he was unsure. “I grew to love the sailings, the boats, the crew the lifestyle, but I still felt I belonged on container ships,” he said. “It would be a big adjustment, especially because I would have to shave every day,” he joked.

Eventually, he accepted the opportunity and worked tirelessly to learn how to sail and operate the ship. Today, he keeps an “open bridge” policy, allowing passengers to visit the control room, even when he is wrestling with the wind.

“The crew and the passengers are all part of the experience, and I like to meet people and receive their feedback,” Captain Stojanovic said.

Environment

Sea Cloud Cruises aspires to take a “gentle” approach, using wind power to drive its ships wherever possible, even if that means changing course for optimal weather conditions. When sailing is not possible, the Spirit has two diesel-electric engines that run on low-sulfur marine diesel fuel. The company is also working with ports that have shore power capabilities to plug into the local electric power.

Onboard, there is an emphasis on reusable bottles and paper straws, and crew members separate solid waste to be compacted and removed when in port.

Excursions and Activities

We made stops in Portofino, San Remo, Italy, and St.-Tropez, France, anchoring offshore and getting to land by tender — a contrast to the big cruise ships with their loud horns and thick plumes of exhaust spewing from their funnels.

For passengers wanting to take a dip (there is no pool), the crew marked an area in the water with floats and an inflatable slide. The water was frigid, but many passengers took the plunge from the swimming deck. Guests could also take “Zodiac Safaris” around the ship to get views of the vessel from the water.

sail yacht radiance

Excursions ranged from food and wine tours to e-biking and beach trips. In Portofino, passengers were free to explore the sights independently, including the Castello Brown Fortress and the lighthouse on Punta del Capo rock. There was ample time to eat meals on shore as the ship did not depart until 11 p.m. Over the summer, the Sea Cloud Spirit will sail to Spain, Portugal, France and the Azores, among other destinations. On Nov. 11, she will depart for St. Maarten in the Caribbean for the winter.

Wherever the vessel goes, said Mirell Reyes, president of Sea Cloud Cruise for North America, the company tries to “stay away from the crowds and ports where big cruise ships spit out 6,000 passengers.”

Summer prices, which include food and beverages, range from $3,995 for a four-night sailing in a superior cabin to $9,420 for a veranda suite. Seven-night sailings cost between $6,995 and $16,495.

'Peanuts' characters Snoopy, Woodstock on shirts for Bayview Mackinac sailboat race

sail yacht radiance

There might be an American icon hitching a ride on the backs of sailors during this year's 100th consecutive Bayview Mackinac sailboat race, which begins July 20.

To help celebrate the race, the Bayview Yacht Club is selling special T-shirts online featuring Charles M. Schulz's "Peanuts" characters — and that includes Snoopy.

Most of the shirts include the logo for the 100th race on the front and the "Peanuts" designs on the back.

The race is slightly older than the famous dog. The club created the race, which goes from Port Huron to Mackinac Island, in 1925. It's the longest continually run freshwater long-distance sailboat race. Snoopy was inspired by the Schulz family dog, Spike, which the cartoonist first illustrated in the 1930s, according to the Charles M. Schulz Museum . Snoopy and the "Peanuts" gang were first published in a comic strip in 1950.

Some of the "Peanuts" and Bayview Mackinac designs include:

  • Snoopy wearing a captain's hat and standing on an anchor.
  • Woodstock in a sailboat that's floating in Snoopy's dog bowl.
  • Woodstock sailing under the words "Peanuts Sailing Team."
  • Snoopy looking at Woodstock sailing in his dog bowl with the popular "Peanuts" phrase, "Good Grief," above them.
  • Silhouette of Sailor Snoopy

The shirts range from $27-$29. There are both adult and youth offerings. Customers are encouraged to order online by June 28 to receive shirts before the race begins.

This is also a big year for Snoopy, as it's the 50th anniversary of the Beagle Scouts. You can find anniversary gear at the "Peanuts" official store and Kohl's.

Italy shipwreck

The waters of the Ionian Sea seem tranquil enough in the middle of June, but they also form part of the most dangerous migration route in the world.

The shoreline of southern Italy , with its position in the central Mediterranean, is the primary objective of many who put to sea.

Yet the boats used by migrants are often unseaworthy and the smugglers they pay are untrustworthy - and so it has proven off the coast of Italy's Calabria region.

Some 120 miles from the port of Roccella Ionica, the Italian coast guard caught site of simple sailboat, a recreational vessel with a single mast barely peaking above the water.

Leaving Turkey eight days earlier, it was packed with 76 people, including more than 70 migrants from Iraq, Iran and Syria.

But something had gone terribly wrong,

Red Cross officials in southern Italy said only 11 people survived, among them a pregnant woman and two children. It was clear these individuals had suffered greatly at sea.

Ro'ya Muheidini, a 19-year-old Iraqi Kurd, said that different smugglers had been involved in the voyage - but all the passengers had been duped.

"The smugglers told us not to bring any food because [the vessel] had everything. After that, we ran out and shared what we had. Nothing was left on the boat, no water, no food, nothing."

Ms Muheidini told us that the captain had tried to open a box or tube with provisions but there was an explosion which tore a hole in the hull.

The boat capsized, and all 76 people - including two dozen children - were thrown into the water.

"We stayed on the water for four days and no one came to help us," said the 19-year-old.

"Two or three boats passed by and they got very close. We shouted a lot for help, but they ignored us and passed by.

There seems to be little to no prospect that any of those still unaccounted for will be found alive, making this one of the worst disasters in the Ionian Sea in recorded memory.

But that is unlikely to shift public opinion in the European Union. In fact, it may go unnoticed. The politics of immigration and migration have changed in Europe.

It now requires a tougher, harsher approach, but the consequences of that will prove deadly.

64 people missing and many rescued from 2 shipwrecks off Italy. At least 11 have died

Sixty-four people were missing at sea after a shipwreck off the Italian southern coast on Monday, United Nations’ agencies said in a statement. In the shipwreck, which took place about 200 kilometres (125 miles) off Calabria, a boat that had set off from Turkey eight days earlier caught fire and overturned, the U.N. agencies said, citing survivors. ROME (AP) — Sixty-four people were missing in the Mediterranean Sea and several were rescued after their ship wrecked off Italy’s southern coast Monday, United Nations’ agencies said in a statement.

In a separate shipwreck, rescue workers evacuated dozens of suspected migrants but found 10 bodies trapped below the deck of a wooden boat off Italy’s tiny Lampedusa island, the German aid group Resqship wrote on Monday on the X social media platform.

The boat that wrecked about 200 kilometers (125 miles) off Calabria had set off from Turkey eight days earlier, but caught fire and overturned, the U.N. agencies said, citing survivors.

The search-and-rescue operation started following a mayday call by a French boat, the Italian coast guard said in a statement. The boat was sailing in a border area where Greece and Italy carry out search-and-rescue operations. The survivors and people still missing at sea came from Iran, Syria and Iraq, the U.N. agencies said.

The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center immediately diverted two merchant vessels sailing nearby to the scene of the rescue. Assets from the European border and coast guard agency Frontex also helped.

FILE - The bodies of some of the 64 migrants missing in the Mediterranean Sea after their ship wrecked off Italy's southern coast are disembarked at the Italian southern port-city of Roccella Ionica, early Wednesday, June 19, 2024. The Italian coast guard on Thursday recovered 12 bodies from a weekend shipwreck in the Ionian Sea off the southern Italian coast line, bringing to 20 the number of known victims. Dozens more were missing and presumed dead. (AP Photo/Valeria Ferraro, File)

The survivors were brought to the Calabrian port of Roccella Jonica, where they were disembarked and entrusted to the care of medical personnel. One of the 11 rescued migrants died soon after, the coast guard said.

In the second shipwreck, the crew aboard Resqship’s boat, the Nadir, found 61 people on the wooden boat, which was full of water.

“Our crew was able to evacuate 51 people, two of whom were unconscious,” it added. “The 10 dead were in the flooded lower deck of the boat.”
