First running photos of superyacht Suerte

The first running photos of superyacht Suerte have been released, showing off Tankoa Yachts ’ 69.3 metre new launch. The Italian builder launched superyacht Suerte at a grand event in July taking place in Genoa, Italy. Boat International was on-hand for the event, which included a fireworks display over luxury yacht Suerte . The new running photos of superyacht Suerte have been shot in Portofino Bay.

From July 1 to August 1, superyacht Suerte underwent sea trials and technical and stability tests to ready for delivery at the end of August. Suerte will then make her public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Suerte ’s contractual speed of 16.5 knots at half load was exceeded during her sea trials, Tankoa reports, as speeds in excess of 18 knots were reached. Suerte will obtain a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

At the end of July, Tankoa Yachts released a time lapse video its superyacht Suerte . Shot over two months at the end of the yacht's build, the cool time lapse video (below) shows the superyacht's completion and launch in Italy.

Formerly know as project S693, the new Tankoa yacht  Suerte was designed by Francesco Paszkowski , with interiors by Margherita Casprini . The yacht is described as eco-friendly – both of the engine exhaust stacks have carbon filters to limit emissions, qualifying her for RINA’s Green Plus certification.

The Tankoa Yachts S693 superyacht was sold  last spring. The semi-custom yacht has been designed to suit her owner’s taste. The tender garage, for instance, was significantly changed from the standard layout so the owner’s son could have room to work on his competition jet skis.

The main saloon of superyacht Suerte is welcoming and features multiple wow factors including a 900 litre aquarium and an 80 inch TV, while a spectacular internal staircase entrance leads from the beach club to main saloon.

The beach club of the new launch Suerte boasts a hammam and sauna, which includes a chilled water system for showers with 3ºc water. The aft portion of the hull is made from stainless steel, designed to protect the beach club from corrosion. Notably, the beach club sauna has a glass wall that looks out onto the sea.

Set on the sun deck, Suerte 's pool is a major focal point, featuring Bisazza mosaic tiling and a  waterfall  flowing from the superstructure overhang. There are also a series of glass panels in the bottom of the pool, which look through to the upper saloon below, so that, "when the pool is full of water, light will play in this area," said Tankoa build captain and sales manager Renzo Chelazzi, leading a tour around the newly launched yacht Suerte .

Meanwhile, the upper deck features an impressive gym, and an elevator leads from the gym to to a private sun deck area on the top forward deck.

Commenting on the yard's aim to build Northern European quality in Italy, Renzo Chelazzi said, "Even when the shipyard will be full of construction, we don't want to build more than six yachts a year – we want to give the same attention to all, without anyone losing out".

With a gross tonnage near 1,250 GT, Suerte  offers comfortable accommodation, but beyond this, a priority has been placed on vibration and noise reduction in the yacht’s design. It has been equipped with the latest sound and vibration-insulation devices; for instance, the generators in the massively spacious engine room are equipped with pressurised exhaust mufflers, which mix exhaust gas with water to reduce noise while at anchor or in port.

The fore section of the superstructure is also constructed in high-tensile steel instead of aluminium in order to reduce vibration while underway.

Suerte began sea trials in late July, and delivery is timed for late August. She is slated to make her first public appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show this September.

Launched recently at a grand event in Genoa, Italy by Tankoa Yachts was this stunning, beautiful 69.3 metre yacht “Suerte” looking pretty much like a regal queen of the sea. After a series of sea trials, stability and other technical assessments, she will be making her grandiose debut in public at the Monaco Yacht Show slated this month.

Suerte’s Main Saloon

As you enter the main saloon of luxury yacht Suerte, you can’t help but be awed by a sense of warmth and good feeling brought on by a blend of welcoming features including a soothingly impressive 900 litre aquarium and an imposing theatre-like 80 inch TV. Getting in, you will have to go through an elegantly-built wide staircase entrance leading from the beach club to the gorgeous saloon. Suerte’s beachclub itself boasts of a Turkish bath and sauna, that includes a customized chilled showering system with 3 degrees centigrade water. The sauna has been constructed with see-through glass panels that look out into the open sea. Certainly an excitingly unique way to take a sauna.

Suerte’s Pool

Another sure-fire attraction with an inviting look in it, is Suerte’s pool, laid out on the yacht’s sun deck. From an overhang structure, flows a tailor-made waterfall flowing into the Bisazza mosaic tiled pool. Its bottom part is erected with thick, giant glass slats through which you’ll see what’s happening below at the upper saloon. When various lights are on in the saloon and the pool’s full of water, a fascinating play of multi-colored lights happens. Going further up into the upper deck, is where you’ll find a good-sized gym with most of the popular sports equipment and machines one might need to keep fit and do their workouts while enjoying a cruise.

FIRST IMAGES: Superyacht SUERTE Prepares for Delivery

The first ever aerial images have been released of the highly-anticipated 69m/227ft Tankoa Yachts superyacht SUERTE on her sea trials as she prepares for delivery later this month. She is expected to make her grand debut at the upcoming 2015 Monaco Yacht Show . 

Scheduled for delivery to her owner at the close of this month, newly launched SUERTE is seen showcasing her exquisite, Francesco Paszkowski-designed lines in new photography shot in Portofino Bay. She underwent sea trials from 1 July to 1 August, with final touches to her interior currently taking place before delivery.

Following the new trend of implementing 'eco-friendly technology' into her engineering, she is RINA Green Plus certified and will lessen her impact on the environment thanks to engine exhaust stacks with carbon filters. She will also significantly reduce noise and vibrations in comparison to similar superyachts.

On her trials, Suerte surpassed her contractual speed of 16.5 knots travelling at half load, and recorded speeds of over 18 knots. She will offer a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

She has gross tonnage close to 1,250 GT.

Motor yacht SUERTE was launched with fireworks at a grand ceremony at Tankoa's headquarters in Genoa, Italy on 1 July. The shipyard later shared  footage from inside their shipyard of the huge effort and manpower behind preparing Suerte for her launch into the water. 

The newly-released images provide a closer look at her sundeck, which will distinctively feature a bar  area within her large swimming pool, as well as a circular sunlounger area aft.

Suerte is set to to be one of the most well-appointed launches of 2015 so far, with standout amenities including a touch-n-go helipad, 900-litre aquarium and 80-inch television in her main salon, her pool's waterfall and sauna with sea views.

As seen above, projections of her interior have also been shared by Tankoa Yachts. With styling by Margherita Casprini, indoor spaces are open in design and are inspired by modern themes.

Suerte will accommodate up to 12 guests on board in a spacious layout consisting of a master suite, two VIP staterooms, two double staterooms and two convertibles. An elevator will provide easy access across her floors for guests.

She will additionally feature a large tender garage (able to accommodate several jet-skis) and Beach Club, with water toys not yet announced.

Suerte’s interior layout is spacious and comfortable, sleeping up to 12 guests in 6 rooms, including a master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 2 double cabins, 2 twin cabins and 1 convertable cabin. Built with steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Suerte has a cruising speed of 11 knots, a maximum speed of 16.5 knots and a range of 5,000nm from 162,000 fuel tanks.

Suerte comes complete with a modern stabilization system to reduce roll motion even during rough seas, and the yacht also has ‘at anchor stabilizers’ to keep things smooth even at anchor/zero speed.

Air conditioning is available throughout the cabins, and you’ll enjoy fast Wi-Fi connection to ensure you stay in touch. The yacht is wheelchair friendly, and has been widely praised for the level of access it provides guests. A gym enables the health conscious to stay fit while on the water, and the latest exercise equipment can also be enjoyed.

Expert Insight: How Superyacht Captains Can Master Growing Yacht Sizes

In recent years, a strong superyacht market has driven the industry to push the boundaries regarding design, technology, and materials. While luxurious concepts and cutting-edge technology continue to trend upward, the industry is also pushing the boundaries of size, and with that, comes a significant challenge: the ability to safely crew a yacht of 3,000 gross tonnes or more. We spoke to those at International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI), which provide administrative and technical support to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Registry, to discover more about how it is working to both address this challenge and advance the professional portfolio of superyacht captains around the world.

In the past, few superyachts ever exceeded a gross tonnage (GT) of 3,000. Today, there are over 150 yachts in operation exceeding this monumental volume, and with an additional five to eight yachts in this category also being delivered each year, the need for captains qualified for vessels over 3,000 GT is growing. 

‘Owners want their captains to grow with them,’ commented Patrick Bachofner, Worldwide Director, Yachts and Director of the Geneva Office for IRI. ‘The relationship between a yacht captain and owner is unique and often long-term. We recognised the need for a pathway to shatter that 3,000 GT ceiling for captains since owners are purchasing larger and larger yachts.’

Providing administrative and technical support to the RMI Maritime Registry, IRI is arguably the world’s most experienced privately held maritime and corporate registry service provider. 

Administering maritime and corporate programs as well as being involved in flag State administration since 1948, IRI understands and caters to the specialised needs of the maritime industry.

Recognising the capped 3,000 GT limit of the standard Master License, the RMI Yacht Registry developed a new certification for superyacht captains looking to expand their professional skill set, which was previously only available to those captains who had also obtained commercial sea time. 

This new certification, an STCW II/2 Certificate of Competency (CoC) Master (Yachts) Unlimited tonnage license, is only available through the RMI Maritime Administrator and the Maritime Professional Training (MPT). Thanks to the Master of Yachts Unlimited Tonnage – Marshall Islands Capstone Course, which includes coursework and exams, successful candidates receive the new license, which was previously only available to captains who had obtained commercial sea time. The license is also endorsed by the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry.

Marc Verburg, Director of Yacht Operations at IRI, shared how crewing a yacht over 3,000 GT requires a different skillset and knowledge of yacht operations: ‘Yachts of this size are often designed to emphasise luxurious comfort, speed, or even expedition capabilities, each of which requires additional knowledge for safe yacht operations.’

Launched in 2016, the Capstone Course builds upon the tradition of the United States Coast Guard’s Master-Unlimited License, which includes 15-course prerequisites, required sea time, stringent application requirements, and five days of exams and simulator assessment. 

‘Yachting is truly separate from the commercial maritime industry,’ shared John Hafner, Vice President Seafarers’ Manning & Training, who developed the course with MPT. ‘Unlike the commercial side of the business, many yacht deck officers have never attended a maritime academy and most have not worked on vessels that would qualify them to sit for the commercial unlimited tonnage Master’s license. The Administrator, working with MPT, created this pathway for yacht captains to advance their yacht CoCs and work on these larger yachts.’

‘Prior to the development of this course, owners of yachts over 3,000 GT often looked to the commercial maritime industry to crew their vessels,’  added Patrick, ‘there was no option for a yacht captain to grow.’

Despite being a fairly new addition to the superyacht industry certifications, the program is growing. Five superyacht captains successfully completed the rigorous Capstone Course during the last exam period in November 2022.  Although the course is meticulous, captains do not have to give up their current positions to complete it.

‘ The Capstone Course, launched in 2016, builds upon the tradition of the United States Coast Guard’s Master-Unlimited License, which includes 15 course prerequisites, required sea time, stringent application requirements, and five days of exams and simulator assessment.

“ We have a number of Masters in various stages of the process,’ explained Patrick. ‘Many are completing the coursework while still employed on their current command, or during refit or building. Courses are set about a year in advance, so it is essential that a captain plan ahead .’

So, what’s on the horizon? Regulatory change from the RMI will require captains to have a license for private yachts over 3,000 GT as of September 2024.

‘This segment continues to grow,’ added Marc, ‘the RMI Master of Yachts Unlimited Tonnage creates a new professional growth opportunity in one of the strongest areas of the yacht industry. Captains should take the time now to prepare and become certified so they can continue to advance their careers.’
