The Solent is a fantastic place to sail. One could say the Solent stretches from Portsmouth and the forts just south of Portsmouth to the start of the Needles Channel. Within this area there are numerous places to pull into port and explore, each with something different to offer. Two big ports, charming market towns, the bustling Hamble River, the beautiful Bucklers Hard up the Beaulieu River in the heart of the New Forest, anchorages positioned to let you watch the world go by. They are all within a stone's throw (short sail) of each other meaning you can visit several South Coast locations during your charter, making it popular for a day, a yacht weekend or a week. Due to the popularity of sailing on the Solent, many people are searching online for terms such as yacht hire Solent , yacht rental Solent , boat hire Solent , boat rental Solent , and, if you're local, yacht charter near me . There is also a huge variety of craft in the Solent. It is not uncommon to see high performance racing yachts in Cowes, oil tankers, fishing boats, day boats, sailing school boats, round the world luxury cruising yachts, round the world racing yachts, old gaffers, classic keel boats, kite surfers, windsurfers, big expensive power boats, smaller expensive power boats, sailing dinghies in Gosport, ribs of all shapes and sizes, cruise ships, a hoover craft and high speed ferries. All within a day. Yet the Solent does still offer peaceful hideaways to get away from it all. There are few real physical obstructions to boats within the Solent. There is the odd ledge There is the Bramble Bank just to the north and east of Cowes but that is about it. There is a shipping channel one must be aware off and local bylaws that one needs to adhere to. Solent tides are interesting, and it is necessary to have a good awareness of what the tide is doing at all times. Due to the shape of the land and the Isle of Wight the Solent gets 'double highs'. Just beyond the Solent on the South coast there is Poole and Weymouth to the west, Bembridge, Langstone and Chichester Harbours to the East.

Fantastic days sailing with friends on a wonderful boat. It certainly helped that we had 3 very experienced sailors with us, would highly recommend Firstaway sailing if you want a day on the water in the Solent. - Clive B
Thanks Sally and Eric for great service and a brilliant day with Firstaway Yacht Charters. Excellent first experience of sailing. Skipper Eric was great and let us all take a turn at the helm. A great way to celebrate special occasions. Boat was clean and well maintained with good facilities too. Would recommend Firstaway to anyone wanting to take a trip sailing. - R & A Jenner
We were 7 onboard this Jeanneau 12.5 m and while there wasn't much wind, with what little there was we managed 7 kts. Cascadeur is a great charter boat - roomy, clean, well equipped. Eric and Sally were very helpful and clearly know their stuff. - Peter R
Wonderful people. Sally in particular couldn't have been more helpful. The skippers were professional and experienced, but also good fun and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Thanks all! - Sam N
Excellent company, with a very well appointed boat (Zara). Nothing was a problem to them, despite me chopping and changing a lot. Our skipper - Gavin - was fantastic. Knowledgable, friendly and great company. I would certainly use this company again. - ASQC
I arrived with no expectations and ended up having an amazing time on "Elissa" The Skipper was super friendly and got us involved with the sailing. Overall was a phenomenal experience and I highly recommend to anyone considering!! 5 STARS - Virginia Water
Firstaway run a great charter business: their yachts are in very good condition, always well prepared, properly cleaned; nothing is too much trouble; friendly and professional. I have been chartering from Firstaway for nearly 20 years and would always recommend them and never look elsewhere! - Mackeaj
I chartered with Firstaway 3 days a Gib'Sea 37ft yatch. Very well kept and clean. excellent service and assistance, very easy checkin-checkout process. we did some 60 miles chilling around the Solent, Yarmouth harbour was also an excellent experience. highly recommended. - Tommaso M
A beautiful day on the water around the Solent... I was slightly anxious as I don’t have webbed feet but Eric and Sally were great hosts and competent sailors... now looking forward to my next seafaring adventure. - Karen

Home to the largest city in Europe, world-famous tourist attractions, and over 600 miles of stunning coastline, England is a top-rated tourist destination, with some excellent places for sailing. England is a part of the United Kingdom, but the country itself is divided into nine unique regions, rich in culture and history. See the bustling city life in London , the carved chapels of collegiate towns like Oxford or Cambridge, the fairytale land of Bath, and the dramatic coastline of the Isle of Wight. With a yacht charter in England, you can sail the English Channel, loop around The Solent, or discover the intricate canal system. There is so much to discover on land and beyond, making an England boat trip an ideal holiday. Skip the queues at the airport and opt for a boat hire in England with Click&Boat.
The cost of a boat hire in England varies considerably depending on where you’re looking to travel as well as the type of vessel you want, how many passengers are on board, and the duration of your hire. The price of a bareboat rental in England is also different to that of a skippered vessel. Below are some average prices for an England boat hire.
To hire a sailboat in England, the average price is about £2,668/ week for 8 passengers.
To rent a motorboat in England you should expect to pay around £1,407 / day for up to 12 guests.
A RIB hire in England for 12 people costs about £469 / day in low season and £689/ day in high season.
The price of a catamaran hire in England for 6 passengers is around £3,390 / week in high season and £1,720 / week in low season.
If you’d like to rent a houseboat in England for the week you’re looking to pay around £3,400 in high season and £1,725 in low season for up to 6 guests.
England is full of places to sail: from straits to lakes to rivers, you won’t be bored cruising around the country. For inner city sailing, sail around Great London and in the capital to see some of the country’s most important monuments such as The Tower of London, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace. Get lost in the mazelike canal network of London to Bristol, then swing down to the Isles of Scilly and sail on the south coast along the English Channel. Great destinations include Plymouth, Cornwall and Dorset, Lymington , Southampton , and around the Isle of Wight. If you want to soak up the sun and get a taste of a traditional English beach town (and fish and chips!) stop in Brighton and relax on the beach!
There’s so much to do on a boat trip in England, and the possibilities are that much greater with a yacht charter. While sailing around England, you can discover hidden gems and underrated destinations. Sail up the Thames to Chertsey and pass through Shepperton Lock, Pharoah’s Island, and the Chertsey Meads. Go to Gosport and discover 24 miles of waterfront, naval heritage, panoramic beaches, and watersports galore. Adventure lovers can visit Portsmouth to surf around The Solent with activities like windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding and canoeing. Visit the picturesque village of Hamble Le Rice and see the quaint English cottages and active wildlife. Sail along the River Hamble and if you have time, pop over to Warsash, another important maritime destination where merchant seaman are often trained at Solent University’s Maritime Academy.
If you’re looking to rent a boat in England, the best time to do so would be in summer, from June to August. At this time temperatures are at their highest with the highest average temperature in July at 22°C. Although it rains year-round in England, precipitation levels are at their lowest in summer and autumn and in July and August, there are more hours of sunlight than at other times of the year. Happy sailing!
The United Kingdom has a rich merchant history and of course, this has resulted in innovation in the vast number of ports in the country. These ports are used to adapting to technological advancements and are very large for receiving high quantities of vessels on a daily basis. Below are some of the major British ports and great places to dock your boat hire in England.
Make your boat trip in England a success with Click&Boat. We have a variety of options for you: from bareboat rentals in England to skippered vessels, we’ve got what you’re looking for. Of course, we always recommend renting a boat with a skipper. There are many benefits to having a skipper or crew; they handle everything when it comes to sailing so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Your skipper will dock, anchor, and sail the boat while you sit back, and relax. The skippers will also most likely be English, and can provide valuable insight about where to go and what to see. Hire a skippered vessel for a safe and smooth sailing journey in London!
There are many things to consider when choosing the type of yacht to charter in England. If you’re looking to cruise along the canals, a houseboat would be a great option as they are great for living on the water and many of them include heat for a relatively cold English climate. If you want to travel long distances but you’re short on time, a motorboat would be the best option, as it is fast. Sailboats are a great choice for avid sailors or people who want an authentic sailing experience, though they may not be good for people who are prone to seasickness as they tend to sway and bob on the water. If you want a lavish sailing holiday and to experience the very best of the country, you can’t go wrong with a luxury yacht charter in England! Whatever your goal, Click&Boat is here to help make your boat hire dreams, a reality.

This is truly a 5 * service. The team really looked after us both ashore on arrival and also while at sea. We were a relatively inexperienced crew but always felt the team ashore had our backs. Thoroughly recommended.
I just wanted to say Thank-you very much for the weekend charter. It was exactly what we were after (albeit cold!) plus Andy was an awesome teacher and great company. We’ll definitely be keen to book again soon!
We had a fabulous four days. Marina is ideally placed for the Solent, boat was in great condition, well equipped and a joy to sail. We were well briefed and the shore side team including the dog very friendly.
We charted one of the sailing yachts for a fantastic weekend cruise in the Solent. The boat was in superb condition and well equipped, the staff was very helpful explaining how things work on the yacht and there was also a video available with all the important information. 10/10 would recommend!
Had a fantastic week chartering Blue Otter, Alex was incredibly helpful and sent loads of information and date checking prior to booking. There was a handover video and both the handover and return were really smooth. The boat was lovely and well maintained and Lee was really helpful in recommending places to visit (and helping identify the steering issue as an autopilot takeover - doh!). Definitely will be back and would fully recommend!
Just back from a lovely week in the Solent. Great service from HPYC from first inquiry through to return handover. Very straightforward to deal with, and the yacht was in excellent condition. We've chartered from many companies in the UK and abroad and the attention to detail (and flawless inventory!) was second to none. Everything about the yacht and equipment had clearly been well looked after and was in immaculate condition. Great service, will use again.
Always very friendly service, and well-maintained yachts. Easy check-in and checkout. Will be back...
We had a great time and were very happy with everything. Your team were genuinely friendly and were very helpful when we needed it. Is a big contrast to many charter companies I have dealt with in the past.
Watching the sun go down with a glass of bubbly on the deck of a sparkling yacht was unbelievable. What a treat, and a much needed change of scenery in these troubled times. We will be back for sure
Fab service, nothing too much trouble, including my daft questions. I'll be a repeat customer for sure!
We had a great time sailing with Lee for a few days at the beginning of September. Hamble Point Yacht Charters supplied us an impeccable 45 ft Hanse yacht, which was handled with complete mastery by Captain Lee.It was a privilege to sail with Lee, who is clearly a highly skilled professional taking great pride in his work ... but who is also a fantastic character with a great sense of humour and plenty of fun stories to keep the whole family entertained. He balances the serious side of safety and learning about sailing with a whopping dose of amusement and good cheer. We sailed the Solent in some decent seas, visited Bucklers Hard on the banks of the Beaulieu River and learned lots about British nautical history. Our boys started somewhat of a fishing trend catching bass off the back of the boat in Portsmouth and we would love to sail with Lee again in the future. The man truly knows his stuff, maintained the boat impeccably and went to every effort to ensure that we had a great time. Many thanks to “Shippers” and Hamble Point Charters. We’ll be back.
Chartered bareboats with HPYC on numerous occasions most recently in Sept 2020. Always helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend.
We had a fantastic weekend sailing on Loxley B. Boat in super condition and spotlessly clean, Alex. and the team very thorough and always on hand to answer any questions. A great experience. We will be back. Thank you!
Lots of information from office with a friendly service. We selected a one of the cheaper yachts and was please with find everything work and was cleaned and tidy. We will definitely be back
This was the first time we had tried chartering and as experienced racing sailors we didn't know what to expect. Covid has closed down all our events this year so this was a chance to get afloat at least once in 2020. What a great experience and Alex and all the Hamble staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We had a great three days and we will be back !! We would have no hesitation is recommending Hamble Point Yacht Charters.

We had an amazing time, thank you so much. The crew were brilliant - nothing could have been better, we will be back!
Thank you to you both for such an incredible day yesterday, everything was perfect, from the food at The Hut, to the weather and even the dodgy dancing on the way back in! The boat is spectacular, we have have never hosted such a successful corporate day - our guests are already asking for the date for next year!!
The buffet lunch was epic. The boat was beautiful, it was immaculate. The crew could not have done more for us, but managed to maintain a relaxed and fun feel throughout the whole day. Thank you for everything.
p.s. wish you were here..

Large superyachts visiting London, England on the river Thames are an exciting spectacle, but also a fantastic base to access events and the central parts of the city, making London a very interesting yacht charter prospect. There are also luxury yacht marinas and berths available with more currently being developed.
On such marina is the historic St Katharine Docks in central London which has berthage for 200 luxury yachts and historic barges. A haven of tranquillity and nestled in the heart of the City of London, St Katharine’s is directly adjacent to the iconic Tower Bridge and next to the Tower of London. The marina is home to visiting and local superyachts and also provides space for private and corporate events amongst the associated commercial buildings.
St Katharine Docks has a thousand years of dramatic history to its name, making it one of the most interesting marina histories in the world. King Edgar originally gifted 13 acres of land to 13 knights in 1125for trade. St Katharine’s docks have been used ever since throughout the ages for one purpose or another and then in 1825 construction began on the docks, laying down the framework for what you see today.
When visiting the UK with London on the itinerary, yachts also dock in the city of Southampton in south-west England. Many vessels drop anchor at Ocean Village Marina or Hamble Point Marina. Expect a coach or train journey time of around 1 hour 20 minutes from Southampton into South London.
London, the UK’s exciting capital city attracts visitors from around the world. Go shopping in Oxford Street, Regent Street as well as famous department stores like Harrods, Harvey Nichols or Selfridges. How about a night out at the theatre? It’s such a diverse city with some of the world’s best sights, attractions and activities.
See the city from above on the London Eye, meet a celeb at Madame Tussaud’s or examine the treasures at the British Museum. Sightseeing couldn’t be better. Check out the underwater creatures at Sea Life London or marvel at the strange objects in the Science Museum. There really is something for everyone in London and plenty to do to make up a luxury yacht charter itinerary.
Buy a day ticket for a London, red double-decker bus on-off tour. What a great vantage point to catch fantastic views of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral and of course, Buckingham Palace. You’ll get a birds-eye view of London Bridge, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and the Changing of the Guard. Spend an afternoon at London Zoo, home to more than 16,000 animals like tigers, hippos, and giraffes.
A little outside London is Kensington Palace, an intriguing Royal Palace that also houses an exhibition of Princess Diana’s dresses. Find out where Queen Victoria lived as a child and see the wonderful collection of paintings from the Royal Collection. To keep you in holiday mode, take a river cruise down the River Thames. Relax and enjoy the magnificent views as you sail past Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Cleopatra’s Needle, The Shard and the London Eye Pier. If you’re looking for a sailing holiday as a family or group of friends then we can help. The East Coast of England provides some of the best sailing available in the UK, coupled with the kindest that England can offer in the way of weather. Our cruising area is particularly beautiful with saltmarsh and seal colonies to explore, the rolling hills of the rivers Stour and Orwell plus the challenge of the River Deben. There is lots to see and with prices starting at just £45 per person per day for a week’s sailing holiday in August, what could be better? We have two types of vessel available for both bareboat and skippered charter. For smaller groups we have the Beneteau 35 and, for larger groups, we have the well respected Sigma 38 cruiser racer. Located in the picturesque and renowned sailing centre of Burnham on Crouch, we are less than an hour from London’s Liverpool Street Station – there are no travel issues of getting to airports, queuing for passport control, transfers and the like which may be experienced for sailing holidays abroad. You can drive and park without cost in the marina car park and, if coming by train, we will collect you. Your comfortable vessel will be waiting for you with a full fuel tank and basic provisions (unless you give us a shopping list and then Sainsbury will deliver your order to the boat)! All the boats have three sleeping cabins and are coded for 6 or 9 people. Fully equipped for cruising and exceeding the standards normally associated with a charter vessel, these yachts can also take you across the Channel to France or Holland. If you decide to charter, particularly for a foreign trip, we recommend taking out specialist sailing travel insurance such as with Haven Knox Johnson . . Our charter experts keep their fingers firmly on the cultural pulse of the Mediterranean’s must-visit hot-spots. This is their list of the places you need to be in summer 2024.
Arnaud Donckele and Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton – Saint-Tropez
LVMH has handed over its restaurant at the White 1921 hotel, just off Place des Lices, to Arnaud Donckele, who runs two three-Michelin-starred restaurants. Together with esteemed pastry chef Maxime Frédéric, they are celebrating the sights, scents and flavours of the South of France in a relaxed, pool-side environment.
Loulou – Ramatuelle
Towards the northern end of the legendary Plage Pampelonne, you’ll find the latest of the Loulou restaurants that have established such a fine reputation in Paris, Val d-Isere and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Wonderful local produce is prepared with reverential simplicity and enjoyed in a happening ambiance.
Verde Beach – Ramatuelle
Set on the famous sands of Plage Pampelonne, Verde Beach is the latest Festif Verde opening following Paris and Dubai. Sunbeds, parasols and post-4pm DJ beats are the order of the day at this afternoon venue. Modern Mediterranean dishes celebrate excellent local produce with views across the bay.
Dream Beach Club by Conca del Sogno – Nerano
Tucked away in the heavenly Recommone Bay near Nerano on the southern tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula, this new beach club, which has a tender dock, is getting rave reviews already. Expect a huge range of lounging areas, fantastic cocktails, gin-clear waters and excellent dining, especially seafood.
La Fontelina – Capri
Perfectly positioned since 1949 on the west side of the peninsula that ends in the iconic Faraglioni Rocks, this is a wonderful place to visit for sunset. There are various sunbed lounges scattered across the limestone plateaux that lead down to the clearest waters and excellent Italian seafood to be enjoyed beneath a rustic pergola.
Lo Scoglio da Tommaso – Nerano
Take the tender to the jetty at Marina del Cantone, below Nerano, to reach this beach-side restaurant with three dining areas: The Deck, The Dock and The Terrace Grill. Expect classic Mediterranean fare, fresh from the sea and the De Simone’s family farm lovingly prepared with an emphasis on simplicity and authenticity.
Nammos – Mykonos
Set on the beach of this exclusive resort complex in the south-west of the island, Nammos serves Mediterranean cuisine with gentle Asian tweaks and sushi that celebrates the bounty of the sea at your feet. Take your tender to the jetty and make a night of it with DJs spinning pumping tunes into the early hours.
Calilo – Ios
Set on an east-facing bay in the south of the island, just north of a helipad if you want to arrive in style, Calilo is another resort set on the soft sands of the Aegean. Big fans of the field-to-fork ethos, the resort’s own kitchen garden and beehive ensure salads, vegetables and drizzling honey are as fresh as the fish caught that morning.
Carpe Diem Beach – Hvar
The Pakleni island of Marinkovac lies just off the perennial superyacht stop of Hvar. The island is essentially the beach club. Go night swimming in the underwater lights, dance ‘til dawn at one of two clubs, enjoy the swings and the watertoys or just settle into a cabana. Dine on sushi and beach-club classics like burgers and steaks. What’s not to love?
10.7 – Formentera
Facing south-west on Playa Migjorn, one of the island’s best beaches, this is a great place to while away the day splashing in the turquoise waters. It’s perfectly positioned for toasting the sunset too, before dining on brilliantly reviewed Asian-influenced Mediterranean dishes and some of the best sushi on the island.
Cala Duo – Formentera
Right next to the port, overlooking the azure waters of Es Cavall d'en Borras, is Cala Duo. This is a cool new venture that is fast gaining 5/5 reviews and a gleaming reputation for amazing views, great service, a wonderful vibe, fantastic seafood and spectacular mojitos. It’s the island’s newest place-to-be.

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Rapper Travis Scott was arrested for trespassing and disorderly intoxication charges in Miami Beach, according to his arrest report.
Pictures posted by TMZ captured Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, as he boarded a private jet on Thursday.
According to Miami Beach Police, the incident that led to his arrest occurred at the Miami Beach Marina hours earlier, just before 12:45 a.m.
Officers were called to the marina regarding a disturbance call reporting people fighting on a luxury charter yacht. Once officers arrived, they saw Scott standing by the dock and yelling at the vessel’s occupants.
More on Travis Scott’s arrest: @MiamiBeachPD say he was on a charter boat at the Miami Beach Marina. “He was drunk, causing a disturbance and asked to leave multiple times.” Officers say when he refused to leave, he was arrested and taken to Miami-Dade Jail. @wsvn #Exclusive pic.twitter.com/9acC2tam5R — Sheldon Fox-7 News (@fox_sheldon) June 20, 2024
Scott was reportedly getting off a charter boat when the owner of the boat, who did not want to press any charges, requested him to leave following a dispute.
Officers noted that Scott initially complied by sitting down but repeatedly stood up, disregarding their commands. Authorities said officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
An officer told Scott to leave the dock, warning he would be arrested if he returned. Scott left the property but continued to yell obscenities at the people on board the yacht.
The arrest report states, “The defendant then stated to officers, ‘If he gets in the vehicle he’s gonna catch a fade,’ which is slang for fighting,” before he got in a car and rode away.
But the incident didn’t end there. Officers said Scott returned to the marina five minutes later and tried to walk toward the boat, causing even more of a disturbance.
Scott was taken into custody at around 1:30 a.m., and transported to the Miami Beach Police Department.
Detectives said he later admitted to consuming alcohol, stating, “It’s Miami,” according to the police report.
The 33-year-old musician, known for his chart-topping hits and dynamic performances, faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing on property after a warning and disorderly intoxication. He was held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bonds set at $500 and $150.
He was released shortly after.
It doesn’t appear that Scott response to his arrest, Scott took to X , formerly known as Twitter, to say, “Lol.” He later posted about his upcoming tour hours later.
6 days to circus Maximus tour. For the record I’m going. Ham. — TRAVIS SCOTT (@trvisXX) June 20, 2024
Scott also took to Instagram to post a doctored version of his mug shot showing wearing sunglasses.
He also put the phrase “It’s Miami” on a T-shirt, along with his mug shot, and is selling the shirt on his website for $35.
It remains unclear whether or not Scott will need to appear before a judge regarding this incident.
Scott, originally from Houston, Texas, rose to fame with his debut studio album “Rodeo” in 2015. He has since become a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his energetic live shows and successful albums, including “Astroworld,” which earned him critical acclaim and a massive fan base.
In his personal life, Scott shares two children with Kylie Jenner, the beauty mogul and the youngest sibling of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

by LEANNA FAULK | WJAR Staff
WESTPORT, Mass. (WJAR) — A couple was surrounded by sharks when they were out on the waters in southern New England.
The couple said they encountered about a half a dozen sharks, with one of the sharks nearly double the size of their boat.
The husband spoke to WJAR about the heart-stopping moments on the water.
I hope we're able to see more of them. I mean, it was it was a wonderful encounter," Perry Long said. "There was, probably, I would say six altogether
Perry and Carmel Long were setting lobster pots from their 18-foot Tripp Angler when they spotted something near Twomile Rock.
"I always assumed was a pretty big boat. But seeing the size of these animals or these sharks. They were enormous. They had to be 20, 25-feet long," Perry Long said.
They thought, or rather hoped, they were whales, or maybe a seal.
"They looked exactly like a great white shark, with the exception that they were a lot more friendly and docile. They just appeared to be hanging out," he told WJAR.
Perry Long said they later confirmed they were basking sharks—large, powerful, daunting, but not deadly.
"They’re very calm, their mouth is wide open. From what I understand, they're eating, you know, shrimp or plankton," he said.
Curious, the sharks took 10 spins around the boat before swimming off.
“We moved with them from time to time. And then, on our way back into the harbor, we saw two more,” Perry Long said.
He told WJAR that he has lived his whole life on the water but said he had never seen something quite like this.
In the end, the Longs came up empty handed on the lobster front, but they came out with an incredible story to share in its place.
Rhode Island, with 400 miles of coastline , is called the Ocean State, but getting on the water can be difficult, unless you own a boat, or have a good friend or relative who owns one.
Here are some tips for getting on the water without marrying into a family of boaters:
Wickford Boat Rentals has more than a dozen boats ranging from 19 to 36 feet, both power boats and sailboats. Daily and extended rentals are available.
The business requires renters to demonstrate they're qualified to handle a boat on their own. "We vet them pretty heavily," said owner David Fetherston.
For those who haven't had training, lessons are available through Wickford's In-Command Seamanship Training program. Wickford also offers charters with a "captain on board who will take you on a carefree excursion around Rhode Island’s beautiful coastline."
Rental costs vary depending on the size of the boat and the rental period. For example, smaller boats rent for about $295 for a half day and $395 for a full day. The larger boats rent for about $745 to $945. Repeat renters can get discounts by joining Wickford's Captain's Club.
Wickford Rentals also offers chartered trips aboard its Sabre 36 Express, Lorelei. The charter includes a captain and crew member and costs $1,550 plus gas for a half day, $2,250 plus gas for a full day.
Kayaks require less training and boating knowledge than powerboats and sailboats. They may also provide the easiest and least expensive access to water.
Several businesses in Rhode Island offer kayak rentals. The Kayak Centre in Wickford rents several different types of kayaks, including pedal kayaks. A single recreational kayak rents for $37 for two hours and $53 for four hours. The business also rents out standup paddle boards, $42 for two hours, $58 for four hours.
The business rents kayaks out of two locations, Wickford and Charlestown. Reservations must be made in advance. The Kayak Centre also offers lessons, tours and kayak fishing.
Or, if you're in the Providence area, Providence Kayak rents single and tandem kayaks in the heart of downtown and in Lincoln Woods. Rentals start at $20 for 45 minutes.
Freedom Boat Club , which has six Rhode Island locations, offers an option between renting and owning. The club requires a down payment and monthly dues. The standard entry fee is $7,999, but the club often offers new-member promotions at a reduced joining fee. Monthly dues range from $349 to $429, according to Michelle Voss, a company spokeswoman.
In addition to its locations in Wakefield, North Kingstown, Warwick, Newport, Barrington and Portsmouth, Freedom Boat Club has more than 400 locations across North America, Europe and Australia.
"A major benefit to membership is that members not only have unlimited access to their home club fleet of boats, but reciprocal access to enjoy any of our locations worldwide," Voss said. "Many of our members plan their travel based on where we have locations."
Freedom requires members to pass a written exam and on-the-water training, which is covered by the membership cost.
More: With boating season on horizon, Coast Guard, boat captains urge training
Probably the most famous and most romantic way to get on the water in Rhode Island is to take a gondola river ride with La Gondola Providence.
Owner Matthew "Marcello" Haynes has four gondolas available to take guests through downtown Providence on the Providence and Woonasquatucket rivers. Reservations aren't required but are advised, Haynes said.
La Gondola Providence offers a variety of trip types. The Sogni, the original and "still the most popular," costs $89 for two people on a 40-minute private ride. It "includes an ice bucket, glasses, and opener (BYOB), handmade Italian wine biscuits, and a little singing from your gondolier." Your gondolier would be happy to point out the sights and answer questions during the trip."
La Gondola Providence also offers half-hour trips during WaterFire that cost $299 for up to six guests.
Another option that lets someone else do the piloting or sailing is a sightseeing trip out of Newport. Newport Classic Cruises offers rides on sailboats and a motor yacht called Rum Runner II.
The Rum Runner II was built during Prohibition for use in the rumrunner trade, according to Newport Classic Cruises. "Relive the speed and thrill of the chase of the smuggler boats from the days of Prohibition."
Trips on the Rum Runner II cost $45 for adults, $42 for seniors and $35 for children.
Newport Classic Cruises also offers charters on sailboats.

While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.
You can also keep money in your wallet by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).
So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.
Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

The San Antonio is a luxury motor yacht measuring 146 feet in length that was built in 2018. This huge vessel is capable of accommodating 36 guests in 18 cabins.
The cost to charter it starts at $21,000 per week plus expenses, not including a crew of eight (which we recommend).
Divide the cost by capacity, and that’s only $583 per person per week to start. That’s practically unbeatable for a boat of this size, allowing you to make other savvy moves with your money .
Get expert advice on making more money - sent straight to your inbox.
Constructed in 2001 (with several subsequent refits), the Virginia Mia is another luxury motor yacht that’s 95 feet in length.
Custom-designed by Nuvolari Lenard, this vessel can sleep eight guests in four cabins as well as an additional crew of four.
Still, thanks to the age of the yacht, the cost of chartering starts at $15,000 plus expenses per week, or just under $2,000 per guest sans crew.
White motor yachts are convenient and luxe, sailing yachts promise a more traditional experience.
At nearly 125 feet, the Nautilus is a large option styled by Robert Delus. Built in 2008, it sleeps 10 guests in five cabins. At this size, you'll likely need a crew of six.
The cost to charter this beauty starts at $17,500 per week sans expenses, again just under $2,000 per person — which really isn't bad for all you're getting.
Grow Your $$: 11 brilliant ways to build wealth after 40
The Aegean Clipper is another sailing vessel, this one built all the way back in 1999 — which translates into cost savings for you.
The yacht is another biggie at nearly 135 feet. With 11 cabins, the boat can accommodate up to 24 guests plus five crew members as needed.
In total, your group will have to shell out a minimum of $13,000 plus expenses per week — just over $379 per person. That's a great deal, comparatively speaking.
If you're looking for something a little smaller that can go the distance, the Silver Fox expedition yacht might be for you.
Built in 2009, the 72-foot yacht accommodates six guests in three cabins for a more intimate experience. There's room for a crew of two if you need their expertise.
With a starting cost of $16,500 per week, the Silver Fox will run each person over $2,700 per week, but the small group may be worth it.
Traveling with a group of the same size but want more length and a bigger crew?
The Tivoli expedition yacht, constructed in 2001 and remodeled in 2010, can fit four crew members. This stunner is just over 90 feet long and can take you on those long hauls.
Yes, it will cost more at $25,000 per week, or over $4,100 per person. But if you can afford it, it’s a dream come true out on the open water.
Retire Sooner: Take this quiz to see if you can retire early
Classics are classics for a reason, as they stand the test of time. Such is the case with the Shangri-La, a vintage yacht sure to take you to that magical place.
This vessel sleeps six in three cabins and promises to be child-friendly. The Shangri-La was constructed way back in 1965, and it is 82 feet long with space for three crew members.
A week on this rig will cost you $16,500, or just over $2,700 a pop.
Another vintage beauty, the Sai Kung classic yacht was born in 1975 and got a makeover in 2015. That updated this 79-foot vessel that can sleep nine people in four cabins.
Be sure you’re a nautical whiz, as there’s no room for additional crew here, but that will only save you money.
All told, the Sai Kung will set your group back $17,500 per week, just under $2,000 per person.
Outdoor yachts are designed for those who truly want to live outside, which you can do easily on the Glorious.
This sporty 72-footer is ready to help you dive, scuba, and more, with room for six guests in three cabins. You can bring a crew of two for extra help, of course.
Built in 2007 and remodeled nine years later, chartering the Glorious will run you $16,500 per week, again $2,700 per person.
9 nearly secret things to do if you fly Southwest
Looking for a bigger open yacht that’s perfect for swim buffs? Charter the Speedy T, a vessel that’s 80 feet long and primed for dips in refreshing ocean waters.
Like many of the yachts on this list, it accommodates six guests in three cabins and has room for three crew members.
All told, one week on this sleek ship — built in 1994 and renovated in 2011 — is $19,500 before expenses, translating to $3,250 per head. But the adventure promises to be unforgettable.
With extra stability even at higher speeds, catamaran yachts like the Etoile Magique are great options for adventure.
This 80-foot vessel is roomy for its size, with room for 16 guests in eight cabins. There’s space for a three-person crew, too.
Constructed in 2004 and remodeled a decade later, this is a budget-friendly adventure in the making. At $18,710 per week before expenses, that shakes out to a bit over $1,100 apiece.
Meaning “strong” in Spanish, the Fuerte 3 catamaran yacht — built in 2004 and renovated in 2010 — offers a more intimate experience than the Etoile Magique, with space for nine guests in four cabins.
On the smaller side, at 67 feet, you can bring two crew members along if you need them. The price tag for one week is around $22,000, or just over $2,400 a pop. This vessel is best in shallower waters.
If your idea of the perfect vacation is sport fishing, this boat is for you. The Astrape sport fishing yacht comes with top-of-the-line fishing equipment so you can catch your dream fish.
Built in 2008 and remodeled in 2016, the 76-foot vessel sleeps eight in four cabins. It also has room for three crew members.
On the pricier side at $29,000, a week will cost each person nearly $3,700 — worth it if you can show off that once-in-a-lifetime catch, though!
Giving us some real Orca energy, the Barefoot sport fishing yacht was built in 2006 — much later than that famed vessel from "Jaws."
The 64-foot boat is designed for fishing in shallower waters, perfect for you and five friends who will share three cabins. Two crew members can fit, too.
This yacht is cheaper than the Astrape at $17,500, so six folks will pay just under $3,000 a head per week.
Gulet yachts are known for their tall masts, ample deck space, and Turkish origins — perfect for a Mediterranean voyage.
To that end, the Prenses Lila is an excellent option for groups of 18. At 114 feet with eight cabins and space for five crew members, this boat beckons.
You can charter Prenses Lila — built in 2009 and remodeled in 2009 — for $17,500 per week in September.
The second gulet yacht and the final boat we’re covering is Dreamland, which will surely take you there.
Constructed in 2006, 12 guests can sleep in six suites on this 105-foot vessel as well as five crew members.
You can book Dreamland for around $26,000 in high season. Divide that by 12, and you land on about $2,200 per person. That might require some financial fitness , but yachts like this don’t come around every day.
Spending your days sunning and swimming aboard a luxurious yacht may seem like an out-of-reach proposition, but we’re here to tell you it’s possible.
In fact, with planning and savvy budgeting, you can score your dream seafaring adventure. You can even use your favorite credit card to book and earn travel rewards .
Traveling by charter yacht is also more environmentally friendly than flying, which means you can feel good about your sailing vacation.
