  KNOW BEFORE YOU SNORKEL

Destin/FWB are not typically known destinations for great snorkeling, and If you have snorkeled in the Caribbean, or other exotic places, you may be disappointed in the snorkeling here. However, there are several varieties of tropical fish, crabs, and other marine life that you may see here but seeing them is dependent on the following factors. 

Tides- The best time to snorkel in this area is during high tide. The clean gulf water is pushed into the bay via the Destin East pass. The clean water also pushes fish into our snorkeling sites. This is the best time for snorkeling in our area. 

Rainfall- If we get storms( Hurricanes) or a lot of rain via thunderstorms, in a short period of time, the rivers drain into the bay and also into the snorkeling areas. This run off can cloud the water with particles and inhibit visibility. The Bay water is normally a tea color from the tannins leached from the leaves of the trees. This doesn't mean the water is unclean, but it may lead to fewer fish being visible on a trip. 

Location- The Destin Jetty's are the best location in the area for snorkeling. However, the water is deep, there is a current and there are many boats and people visiting this location. For these reasons, we DO NOT take our passengers there. We have chosen instead to provide novice swimmers, first time snorkelers and families with very young children the opportunity to try snorkeling in the Bay where it is shallow, less crowded and safe. We do see varieties of tropical fish, crabs, hermit crabs and other marine life at this location, providing the conditions above are favorable.

Join us for a day on the water on our custom built, powered catamaran! It's the only one like it on the Emerald Coast. The Cattywampus is the perfect vessel to enjoy unique eco cruises offering some of the best sights and unforgettable experiences. Captain Tony and his first mate will give you a tour from Okaloosa Island to the Destin Harbor and into the Gulf of Mexico in search of our dolphin friends. We even make a stop to jump in the water to swim and snorkel.

Fun for the Whole Family

We offer dolphin watching tours with a stop to get in the water on all of our cruise times.  Our cruises are 3 hours long.  Guests are welcome to bring your own food, drinks, and small cooler.  You may bring alcohol for guests 21yrs or older, please avoid glass.  You are welcome to bring your own mask and snorkel. Snorkeling gear is available on board for guests.  Capt and crew sanitize gear after every use. Don’t forget your towel and sunscreen!

• The Cattywampus is super family friendly for guests 0-99
• We have a ton of space with over 960 sf of deck
• Half the deck is shaded with molded seating
• The other half is unshaded with nets to layout on & catch the sun
• Very easy on/off access via the retractable staircase that becomes part of the deck when closed.  This makes for a very friendly entrance/exit for children & elders on the water.
• We choose safe, shallow swim sites so all our guests can enjoy swimming & snorkeling.

• Three-hour Destin Dolphin, Sailing & Snorkeling cruises can depart at either 9 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. and starts at $450 overall for the charter, including fuel and other fees and expenses.
• Four-hour cruises also depart at either 9 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. and cost $600 overall for the charter, including fuel and other fees and expenses.

Went on the two hour cruise yesterday at 6pm, and we all had a great time, especially the kids. The crew had the kids and adults laughing the entire time. I wanted to video the whole trip there were so many funny antics. My kids were asking today if we could go again. The weather for the 6pm sailing was great for July since it had rained earlier in the day and therefore not too hot.

Great hosts and a wonderful family atmosphere for my kids and grandkids. I highly recommend this cruise for a fun sunset evening. Wish more companies were as full of integrity as this one.

What time of day is best for dolphin watching.

It’s said that the dolphins are most active after sunrise, late morning from 10 am- noon when the water is still generally calm.  From 2 pm- dusk, there’s also a good opportunity to see dolphins.

What Is The Best Month To See Dolphins In Destin, Florida?

  Destin has plenty of dolphins that live here all year round, but May through August are the best months to see dolphins in their natural habitat as this is also when dolphins come here to mate.   Just keep in mind that Memorial Day to Labor Day is the busiest season of the year, so book in advance if you can.  These tours will fill up fast!

What Should I Bring On The Boat Cruise?

Many of the cruises ask that you bring your own beach day essentials such as sunscreen, towels, and you can find these and more below. 

Never hit the water without your sunscreen.  You’ll want at least SPF 30 to protect from the Florida sun.

Enjoy the beauty of the area and the breeze coming off of the Gulf as our captain and crew show you around the coast. When you return, grab a seat on the deck at The Edge Seafood Restaurant, Destin’s only over-the-water restaurant featuring panoramic views that are   almost   as good as on the boat, and enjoy al-fresco Florida-style dining on the meal of your choice from a select menu.   Valued at up to $65, if purchased separately.

Cancellation Policy:

Guests may cancel at least 48 hours prior to their arrival date and time to receive a full refund minus a 3% cancellation fee. Guests who cancel after the 48-hour period will not be eligible for a refund. If management determines that the weather is unsuitable for water activities, the Dolphin Cruise may be rescheduled for a later time/date. Guest may make changes to the reservation without any fees as long as it’s outside the 48 hour cancellation period. No-shows will not be refunded. Please plan to arrive 30-45 minutes early to park and check in, so that you do not miss the boat. The boat will depart on schedule.

Parasailing Destin with Us

Come aboard one of Destin's only 6 passengers boats for your Destin parsailing adventure! Don't waste time waiting 30-45 min at the dock. Here we make it easy with check-in on the boat and we ask that you arrive 15 min ahead of time. In the summer we add add a fun shuttle boat ride, where marine life can be spotted along the way on your fun-filled ride to the Gulf of Mexico!

We give a 10-12 minute parasail flight , the longest in Destin. Do the math on the harbor boats that hold 12-15 passengers. They are unable to provide the parasail times they quote. And with 23 years experience, our owner/captain Jason is there to extend quality and safety to your Destin parasail experience!
