Our list of the best yacht builders is naturally subjective and will not feature every well-known brand. Our short selection includes a range of shipyards, from manufacturers of the some of the most iconic custom-built superyachts to hugely popular production yacht builders.

Usa – best yacht builders.

Westport is one of the dominant players in the American yacht-building market, with a hugely popular range of tri-deck and raised pilothouse motoryachts built from composite materials. Their models range from from the 112′ to 164′ (34m to 50m) series, allowing the yacht owner to customize the interior layout without the high cost and long timescale of fully-custom construction. As the largest American yacht building company in operation, Westport has a proud history of high quality yacht manufacturing dating back to 1964, with over 100 superyachts and over 170 fishing vessels launched from their Pacific Northwest Shipyard. Christensen Yachts prides itself on the construction of American-built custom and semi-custom superyachts from fiberglass, including well known yachts M/Y CASINO ROYALE, M/Y SILVER LINING and award-winning M/Y ODESSA. Founded by superyacht owners, Christensen has a loyal following of yacht owners, many of whom are repeat customers. Northern Europe – Best Yacht Builders

German superyacht builder Lurssen is the builder of the largest superyacht in existence, the 590’ (180m) M/Y AZZAM, which was completed in an astonishingly quick three years. Known for superb build quality and large projects across its superyacht, naval vessel, as well as its’ yacht refit and management divisions, Lurssen is a family-run shipyard with a prestigious yacht building heritage spanning back to 1875, when it constructed the first ever motoryacht. Feadship, Netherlands: For some yacht owners, the only name worth knowing is Feadship. This prestigious brand is synonymous with Dutch superyacht quality, and has a legion of steadfast and loyal fans. Dating back to 1849, Feadship creates fully custom yachts from a ‘blank slate’ beginning, priding themselves on creating supremely unique, innovative yachts that stand the test of time. Amels’ vast and high-tech superyacht facility is the largest in the Netherlands, producing iconic, high-value yachts up to 330’ (100m), including their 2017 flagship yacht, 272’ (83m) M/Y HERE COMES THE SUN. Amels offer a fully custom yacht building service, as well as their exceedingly popular Limited Edition Series, whereby the yacht owner retains control over interior and exterior design but the yacht is built on a proven platform, thereby slashing the build time. Dutch yacht builder Heesen is known for its aluminum and steel superyachts and innovative use of technology, as seen in the revolutionary fast displacement hull form first seen in the multi-award winning M/Y GALACTICA STAR, and the hybrid propulsion utilized in the 2017 launch of M/Y HOME. With a fleet of over 170 yachts launched since inception in 1978, Heesen is known for pushing the boundaries of what is possible in superyacht design and engineering. Since 1960, Benetti has been constructing superyachts in Italy, including iconic yachts MY KINGDOM in 1980, then the largest yacht in the world at 280’ (85m), right through to recent launches such as the award-winning M/Y 11.11. INTRODUCING THE STRATOS DUTCH BUILT 50 THE MOST SEAWORTHY YACHT IN IT’S CLASS

The new Dutch shipyard Stratos Yacht is introducing its very first model at boot Düsseldorf. The 50-footer combines a superyacht standard of finish with class-leading seaworthiness and engineering.

When Bas Lengers, world renowned broker and yachting expert for over 40 years, set out to create the most-seaworthy vessel in its class, he knew he also wanted it to become the most iconic in its class. The DB50 was born after extensive research and will be presented to the general public for the first time at boot 2024. Stratos Yacht, the builder of the DB50, collected the pre-eminent experts in their respective fields from design, naval architecture and build, and began to redefine the 50ft class of yacht. With the DB50 built to encapsulate Dutch superyacht quality, the team of Stratos’ shipyard, the naval architects of Sea Level and the designer Bernd Weel put their minds together to break down expectations for this yachting segment and create a new standard for its class.

Combining strength and style The result is an ode to Dutch excellence, the on-water equivalent of an all-terrain vehicle – an SUV on water – made to go-anywhere and cruise with ease even in the toughest of weather conditions while achieving speeds of 36 knots. “I felt the 50 ft category needed a tough, resiliently-robust vessel, one that is truly seaworthy and built to superyacht standards,” says Bas Lengers. The DB50 is propelled by the latest twin Volvo Penta IPS systems and incorporates cutting-edge technology on board. Combining strength and style, the DB50 is built to CE Classification A, the highest rating possible, meaning the yacht can tackle extended voyages, withstanding winds over Beaufort Force 8 and significant wave heights above four metres. The same applies to the spectacular nautical range of 400 to 450 miles. The DB50 is equipped with the latest twin Volvo Penta IPS systems and incorporates cutting-edge technology on board. “The robust build and CE-A certified construction provides owners a safe and secure vessel,” says project designer Bernd Weel. This is a yacht with backbone. Key to Bas Lengers’ vision was the resilience and sea-going ability of the vessel. In order to meet this vision, a special grid was designed – unseen in a yacht of this size – and the hull constructed from ultra-dense composite materials, with a hardtop of lightweight carbon. Unique is that many parts are built with carbon and visible finishing.

A complete care-free experience Personalisation of each DB50 is a driving force within Stratos’ DNA. It begins with exterior colour selection in 25 different shades flowing through to upholstery, teak and a range of interior choices. Understanding that time on the water is personal, Stratos offers easy individualization: An online configuration tool allows prospective owners to quickly configure their ideal DB50 via a few clicks; selecting from an array of options that range from upholstery colour, Decking colour, and a wide array of metallic and non-metallic exterior colours. In the tailoring process, owners can choose from three different interior styles which correlate to their preferred ambience onboard: Zen (light), Serene (medium) and Graphite (dark). The design, with its expansive sunpads, dual movement automated sunroof, and inviting alfresco dining space, lends Stratos towards long summer days cruising the Mediterranean. Impressive to guests as a high-performance, luxurious day boat, the full beam cabin with a double size berth, plus the possibility to convert two extra berths, means that this is also the ultimate yacht to dominate the sea on longer journeys. Lengers Yachts is the exclusive sales partner of Stratos Yacht and is pleased to present this new standard of vessel to the market.

The VanDutch 32 Is Stylish and Speedy

VanDutch’s 32-footer is the new entry-level vessel in the Dutch brand’s five-model range, which also includes 40-, 48-, 56- and 75-foot yachts. Like its larger siblings, the VanDutch 32 retains the brand’s minimalistic, windowless hull styling. Italian shipyard Cantiere del Pardo recently purchased the brand and is building the new model.

The VanDutch 32’s helm station is to port and has a single helm seat with a backrest and two cup holders. There is additional forward-facing seating for one, parallel with the captain’s seat and separated by the belowdecks entrance on centerline. Forward, there’s a wet bar; under it, there’s an 11-gallon fridge. A fridge under the captain’s seat is also available. Abaft and to starboard, there’s L-shaped seating for six guests.

Garmin electronics and a 12-inch display are standard, or owners can choose the optional 16-inch display.

Tunes are an essential part of a day on the water, and the VanDutch 32 has a Fusion stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity. Helm-controlled LED lighting illuminates the cockpit, and Silvertex fabrics and quick-dry foam are used for the cushions. Easy-to-clean and durable synthetic teak is found in the VanDutch 32’s sole as well as on the foredeck.

Abaft the L-shaped seating, there’s a sun pad for at least three guests to catch midday rays. To port is fender stowage and a walkway that accesses the swim platform. Guests can take a quick dip before breakfast and then climb back aboard using the built-in hideaway ladder in the transom.

Belowdecks, there are 64 square feet of real estate and a maximum of 6-foot-6-inch headroom. Two sofas with stowage underneath flank the centerline companionway that leads to the forepeak head. The head has a rounded ceramic sink, a mirror with LED lighting, and pullout stowage.

The VanDutch 32’s standard power is a single Volvo Penta V-8 430-CE gasoline engine sans joystick. Other options from Volvo Penta include twin V-6 280-CE gasoline engines, a D6-380/DPI diesel, or twin D4-300/DPI diesels. The optional engines all come with joystick control. According to the builder, the VanDutch 32’s top-end speed is around 45 knots. At a 25-knot cruise speed, range is reportedly 150 nautical miles.
