Coolest Luxury Yacht Amenities on Superyachts That You Didn’t Know Existed

By Adrian Prisca

Published on July 31, 2019

Once upon a time in the early days of luxury charter yachts , having a Jacuzzi on the sundeck was considered the height of opulence. Since then the superyacht industry has evolved to offer even bigger – and sometimes outrageous – comforts that fit seamlessly into the design of the vessel while providing those on board with plenty of entertainment options for distant, uninhabited shores.

Here we have a list of some of the most practical and unusual amenities it’s possible to find today aboard motor yachts and sailing yachts privately owned and those available for charter.

  • Underwater Observatory/Nemo Lounge – Sailing Yacht A

Sailing Yacht A underwater observatory

Known alternatively as underwater observatories, Nemo lounges or Neptune lounges, these rare interiors give guests a view of life below the water as they cruise past fish-filled coral reefs in Australia and the Caribbean or deep canyons in the crystal clear waters of the South Pacific. Luxury yachts SAVANNAH and ELANDESS both have semi-submerged lounges but luxury sailing yacht A goes one step further by having a completely submerged lounge that lets you see through the bottom as well as on both sides while guests enjoy conversation over drinks.

During the design process glass producers GL Yachtverglasung managed to reduce the thickness and weight by up to 50%, although images of the Nemo Lounge show reassuringly dense and durable panes.

If the thought of having glass below the water is an unnerving prospect there is no need to worry: To meet strict Lloyds building standards the observation windows had to withstand 10 times the pressure that they would be up against in constant everyday conditions.

  • Drive-in Tender Bay – M/Y Octopus

Octopus tender garage

When stepping out of a tender and onto a swim platform the procedure can be trickier than it appears, especially in choppy sea conditions or sudden downpours. The drive-in tender bay solves this issue and while it has been around for some years now, the feature is usually to be found on larger custom-built superyachts such as OCTOPUS from German shipyard Lürssen.

The drive-in tender bay is capable of storing two tenders, and the current arrangement is for one Vikal-brand tender called MAN OF WAR as well as a mini-submarine. Water can be drained from within in minutes, and some luxury yachts launched in recent years turn the tender garage into a saltwater swimming pool while the tenders are out on the sea.

  • Tennis Court – Aviva

Aviva tennis court

The tennis court aboard 98.4m/332.8ft superyacht AVIVA from Abeking & Rasmussen is one of the most ambitious luxury amenities to ever be installed within a luxury yacht – it was a marvel at the time she was launched in 2017 and is still regarded as an amazing feat of engineering today.

Two tons of sand were required to produce the bounce, while soundproofing was also installed so that guests sleeping in could do so without interruption. At 20m/65.6ft long and 10m/32.8ft wide and 6.5m/21.3ft of headroom, the proportions of a mega yacht come in handy for creating this impressive padel tennis court, which put her above and beyond her competition to win a Boat International Design and Innovation Award .

  • Swimming Pools with waterfalls – Galactica Supernova

Galactica Supernova swimming pool

Swimming pools with waterfalls are becoming more desirable than ever not just as a place to cool off in hotter climes but also for the ambiance they produce for daytime gatherings or evening soirees. As guests ascend the stairs of 70m/229.8ft Heesen motor yacht GALACTICA SUPERNOVA they are greeted by an extensive glass-sided swimming pool with a waterfall feeding down from the upper deck aft above.

Glass-bottomed inserts in the swimming pool allow light to filter down into the beach club below, making space naturally lit even while cruising between destinations, when the transom door cannot be opened.

  • Outdoor Cinemas – Maltese Falcon

Maltese Falcon outdoor cinema

Motor yachts tend to take most of the credit for innovative features but sailing yachts have been challenging that assumption in recent years with on board Jacuzzis, extensive storage for water toys and massive outdoor party areas that often have wet bars, large alfresco dining areas… and outdoor cinemas that use the sails for a screen.

Nowhere is this feature more impressive than aboard sailing yacht MALTESE FALCON, which captured the world’s attention at her launch in 2016 with her unusual cutting-edge sails when mono-hulled sailing yachts seemed relegated to be little more than nostalgic indulgences. She has a capacity for over 50 guests when hosting a dockside event and everything from home movies to the latest blockbusters can be projected using her top-of-the-line AV equipment.

  • Golf Tee – Lucky Lady

Lucky Lady golf tee

Golf is a favourite sport for many Owners and luxury yacht charter guests to the point where golf courses are easy to come by close marinas across the globe. Those heading off on an expedition to deserted shores don’t have to wait a whole week or even months to pick up their favourite sport again should they choose 62.6m/205.5ft Oceanco motor yacht LUCKY LADY.

Last refitted in 2017, she boasts the world’s first retractable golf tee and since it is located on the spacious swim platform, the rest of the group can watch on from shaded sun loungers until it’s their turn to putt.

Biodegradable golf balls disappear entirely within 96 hours of touching down in the saline seawater, so guests on board don’t need to worry about harming the environment they’ve come to appreciate.

LUCKY LADY also shares some of her features with other superyachts mentioned on this list, including a tender garage that doubles as a beach club, a spa pool with a two-tier waterfall and an outdoor cinema for family films together under the stars.

The Mediterranean luxury yacht charter season is now in full swing, but it’s still possible to grab a last-minute deal. Contact CharterWorld for more information on how to find a luxury yacht to suit the interests of your group in your desired location.

What's Included in a Luxury Yacht Charter? Ultimate A-Z

A luxury yacht charter can provide you with everything you need for the most amazing adventure possible. In today’s world of superyachts, opulent interiors, state of the art entertainment facilities, water toys, gourmet menus and luxurious sleeping quarters are a must.

When it comes to most luxury yacht charters, your charter fee will cover the hire of the yacht, the yacht’s insurance and the crew. All other expenses are in addition to the charter fee and are paid via the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). Essentially, the APA covers all costs outside of the charter fee, including things like food, alcohol, fuel, dockage fees and communications.

To help you understand what you can expect from your next charter with Ahoy Club , here are a few highlights you’ll get to enjoy.

Luxury at Sea: Unveiling the Amenities of a Superyacht Charter

October 3, 2023

When looking at chartering luxury yachts, features and amenities play a big part in which vessel you will eventually choose. It is these features and amenities that make a vessel stand out and contribute to the luxurious feeling of your charter overall. Whether it’s an onboard spa, a diverse collection of water toys or the kind of culinary team that will see you dining on the finest cuisine for the duration of your journey, luxury yachts really do have almost everything your heart desires.

The features of a luxury yacht

Of course, no two superyachts will ever have exactly the same features or facilities, which is what makes the prospect of choosing a yacht to charter so exciting. There are a few key elements that make a superyacht what it is that can include:

Onboard hot tubs and swimming pools

luxury yacht amenities

Long and luscious days can be spent aboard a superyacht that has a swimming pool or hot tub onboard . For those who truly love the water, sometimes being surrounded by it on all sides just isn't enough. Superyachts can feature anything from a plunge pool or smaller 4-person hot tub to a lap pool for guests' use. If somewhere to take a dip is important to you, then you should look for a charter that offers this wonderful feature.

Beautifully equipped staterooms

luxury yacht amenities

Whether it’s a giant flat-screen TV, incredible thread-count linens or majestic ensuite bathrooms , there is a superyacht out there that is just right for you. The staterooms on a superyacht are a testament to luxury and creative design. With each passing year, guest rooms are becoming more and more sophisticated, with new technology being incorporated into their design and new levels being reached with inspired ideas from luxury yacht builders around the world.

Saunas and steam rooms

A luxury yacht’s best features and amenities often include either a sauna or a steam room, sometimes both. For those that are focused on engaging in a relaxing and purifying time on the water, a sauna or steam room could be a vital factor in which type of yacht to charter. These can be small installations on a larger yacht which can be retrofitted to increase the level of quality features that a vessel has to offer.

Onboard spa facilities

luxury yacht amenities

Whether it’s a relaxing daily massage you’re seeking or a full range of spa services to include facials, nail technicians and other pampering services, the presence of a spa room or spa facilities on board a luxury superyacht is not uncommon. These kinds of facilities often come with a complete team that is highly trained in the art of providing incredible wellness experiences to guests.

Entertainment areas

Whether it’s a games room with a pool table, a quality card table for those dedicated poker players or a complete onboard cinema, there can be any number of entertainment areas incorporated into the facilities list of a luxury superyacht. Onboard entertainment is especially important for those rainy days so guests can continue to enjoy the elegant spaces provided on board the yacht you choose to charter.

A galley fit for a Michelin Star

Though it is uncommon for yacht charter guests to spend any significant period in the galley area, if food is an important part of your boating experience, it is best to ensure that the galley is well-equipped for your culinary team. With a well-equipped kitchen area, your team will be able to create exquisite dishes for you and your guests to enjoy at each and every meal.

The facilities you can expect onboard a luxury yacht

luxury yacht amenities

Though many yachts available for charter offer some brilliant built-in features, there can be even more enticement to choose a particular vessel based on the facilities. From the world of entertainment available to heighten your enjoyment of a luxury yacht charter to the conveniences offered by certain facilities, what each vessel includes should be a big part of your decision on which luxury yacht charter will be best for you.

Scuba diving equipment

luxury yacht amenities

One of the most amazing parts of exploring the wide blue yonder aboard your very own luxury yacht is having the opportunity to explore the marine world below. Many luxury yachts come with a full complement of scuba gear for qualified divers to enjoy. For those who are new to the sport, diving instructors can also be arranged for guests to become certified during their charter.

Motorised water vessels

luxury yacht amenities

From a fleet of tenders to whisk you away to your favourite destinations on land when your yacht is at anchor to high-energy jet skis and even water-powered jet packs, there is no shortage of incredible motorised facilities that can come with a superyacht charter . With most charters, there is an additional charge for using motorised water vessels, but some charters may incorporate the use of these in a package price too.

Non-motorised water sports

luxury yacht amenities

You may find that your luxury yacht comes with a range of equipment that can be used during your charter. This gear often includes things like snorkelling equipment and kayaks, but some superyachts have taken the non-motorised entertainment options to the extreme and include things like waterslides and inflatable water toys into the mix as well.

Additional features and amenities that can sometimes be found on a luxury yacht

Though this is a standard list of a luxury yacht’s features and amenities, one can still be surprised by the inclusion of something completely new or different. The concept of a luxury vessel is to include a range of features and amenities that make every time you set sail feel like the most elegant experience possible. Whether that is a helipad complete with the use of a helicopter to enhance your superyacht experience or a rooftop golf tee, each vessel will be able to offer charter guests a new and unique experience that they can enjoy with the wind in their hair as they set sail.

If the above sounds like an experience you'd enjoy, please contact our dedicated Superyacht Charter team for more information.

The ultimate bonus rooms on board luxury superyachts

Swimming pools, gyms and even private cinemas are becoming increasingly common features of luxury superyacht design. So how do superyacht interiors stand out from the crowd? BOAT takes a look at some of the unique "bonus rooms" on board superyachts, showcasing unique and innovative design in the form of libraries, research labs, cigar lounges and more...

Phoenix 2's piano lounge

What’s the only thing classier than soft piano chords gently oozing from a dimly-lit, jazz bar-style room? Answer: the above, but on a superyacht. Phoenix 2 ’ and her piano lounge were commissioned for an owner with a penchant for music. According to Andrew Winch the 90 metre Lürssen has played host to some world-class musicians and extravagant soirees over the years. Adding to The Great Gatsby vibes, a six-panelled gold-bas relief by DKT Artworks overlooks the custom Steinway.

With an interior volume of 1,998GT, there's plenty of space on board 70 metre explorer yacht Skat for luxury amenities. Her military-style Espen Øino interiors belie a colourful interior that's bright and light-filled thanks to large sculptural windows. To retreat for some peace and quiet, guests and owners on board Skat can retreat to the well-stocked library which offers comfy chairs and even a daybed for reading, bookcases filled with reading materials and floor to ceiling views out to sea. For total silence, the library can be closed off from the rest of the bridge deck areas which include an informal saloon with a bar, games space and snack area.

Victorious' cigar room

The 85-metre explorer yacht Victorious has plenty of unique features, but those who enjoy smoking an after-dinner cigar on board will particularly appreciate the gentleman's club-style lounge where most yachts would feature a sundeck. Styled by H2 Yacht Design , there's a cigar humidor accompanied by a glass-fronted wine cellar and cocktail bar, an angular marble fireplace and plush, curved sofas for evening entertaining. Guests can also move out to the adjoining aft terrace to enjoy a cigar in the fresh air under a starry night sky.

OceanXplorer's science labs

First delivered as an oil vessel in 2010, the 87.1 metre OceanXplorer has been transformed into a luxury superyacht with leading research facilities. “More than 50% of the superstructure was demolished, completely stripped. From the main deck up, we built almost completely new,” says Damen project director Tjarco Ekkelkamp. This rebuild included the installation of four cutting-edge science labs for wet and dry work. These laboratories provide the on-board research team with the capabilities to undertake fine microscopy and genetic sequencing, allowing for the quick identification of new species through eDNA analysis without having to send samples off to an on-shore facility. OceanXplorer ’s research credentials have made her a valuable team member in research and media projects led by NASA, National Geographic and Sir David Attenborough together with the BBC.

Elandess' Neptune Lounge

The Neptune Lounge on board 74.5 metre Elandess is modelled on the Nemo Room of 83.5 metre Feadship Savannah , but with even larger viewing points . “I knew one other boat had attempted this,” says the owner of Elandess . “I also knew that the yacht industry had made great strides in recent years with the use of glass. Putting all that together, we set about designing our own version of such a space – one that would be fun for youngsters and adults alike.”

The Neptune Lounge provides a relaxing area to observe the views above and below the waterline; it's part grotto, part submarine and part amphitheatre. The space is constructed with three-metre-high ceilings and near full height glass which is 10 centimetres thick, with one-third of the windows below the waterline. To make the atmosphere suitably aquatic, the floors and ceilings are painted blue with soft furnishings matching in colour.

Savannah's Nemo lounge

Feadship superyacht Savannah features a semi-submerged viewing lounge, which was a technical feat to build. While from inside the glass looks like a single slim pane, it is, in fact, a “belt and braces” approach of several laminated panes about two inches thick in total. For safety reasons, there are actually two windows: an outer window flush with the hull and a second one flanged to the interior of the room, each of which passed the class society destruction-testing requirements. “The challenging part was to get a good, clear view and to fit the glass nicely in the hull,” details Feadship’s marketing manager Francis Vermeer.

Feadship CEO Henk De Vries elaborates: “With the central powertrain, there is room at either side [of the hull] where shafts might have been,” he explained. “This led to the idea of a floor below the waterline, a room at the side half submerged because the fun is in seeing both above and into the water at the same time.”

Savannah ’s Nemo lounge could have gone anywhere in front of the propellers, but its location links it to the pool deck and to the swim platform, where a complex hatch in the aft stairs provides secondary access. Guests relaxing in this area are treated to unique views and can enjoy the sunset at the same time as watching fish swimming beneath the surface.

Mystere Shadow’s nightclub

Mystere Shadow is more than your typical superyacht support vessel. Sure, she can carry submarines, motorcycles, cars and helicopters for the mothership, but, after a redesign by Pastrovich Studio, she’s pretty luxe in her own right, with a pool, spa area and her own bonus room: a disco. Sans toys, Mystere Shadow ’s hangar becomes a full-on nightclub with laser lights, smoke machine and, of course, a disco ball.

The classroom on Vertigo

Who says you have to wait until the kids are grown up to take the voyage around the world? Certainly not the owners of sailing yacht Vertigo who put this classroom to good use while travelling with their young family. Outfitting the yacht with a classroom and bringing along a tutor meant the kids could keep up with studies while they sailed. This bonus room on the award-winning sailing superyacht Vertigo has desks and a SMART board — an interactive whiteboard hooked up to the computer that utilises touch recognition.

Yacht Charter FAQ’S

Which yacht is right for my guests and me.

Allow your personal PYC yacht consultant to guide you through which vessel is best for you and your guests’ needs.

Must I always charter a yacht for a week at a time?

While it is standard to charter a yacht on a weekly basis, you can certainly select a charter to do otherwise. Sail for less than a week or longer.

How many guests can I bring aboard my yacht charter?

International Marine regulation indicates that for most yachts, the maximum number of guests aboard is 12. If you wish to bring a larger party of guests, simply consult your PYC broker to assist you in finding a yacht that can sizably accommodate everyone on board.

What is a crewed charter?

A crewed charter is a continual crew aboard a luxury yacht comprised of a captain, trained crewmembers, hostesses, deckhands, and engineers.

What is a bareboat charter?

To rent a charter bareboat means to be without a crew or occasionally, without a skipper. A bareboat charter indicates that you plan on skippering and navigating the vessel yourself.

Is it customary to tip the captain and the crew?

It is not an obligation to tip the captain or the crew and is solely voluntary. If you find that crewmembers and the captain have performed exceptionally, and you would like to tip, it is customary to tip 10% to 15% of the total charter amount on your last sailing day.

To whom do I give the tip to?

It is advisable that if you so choose to give a tip to the crew, that you gift the money directly to the captain. By doing so, you will avoid causing discord amongst crewmembers and ensure that each crewmember receives an equal amount of the tip.

Can my guests and I enjoy all of the yacht’s amenities while on board?

Yes, you and your guests are welcomed to enjoy all of the amenities while on board your luxury yacht charter and are encouraged to do so.

What is my charter rate?

Your charter rate will be quoted per week, but if you wish to sail for a longer or shorter amount of time, please consult your yacht broker for rate pricing.

Are there costs that my charter rate does not immediately list upfront?

There will be costs that are not included in the charter rate that must be calculated at the conclusion of your trip. These costs can include fuel, VAT, provisions, and marina, harbor, or canal fees.

What is the cancelation policy?

Different contracts have varying policies on cancelation. The MYBA contract dictates that the owner can decidedly retain your deposit or the entirety of your charter fee. If I have paid the entire charter fee before indicating a cancelation, the owner is entitled to retain it but must return the APA.

How do I go about planning land excursions during my luxury yacht vacation?

Your PYC charter consultant will be happy to assist you in planning any excursions and additional activities for you and your guests.

Top 20 Superyacht Amenities

These amenities are just the tip of the iceberg (or superyacht). As technology advances and the imaginations of designers run wild, the future will likely see even more innovative and extravagant features on these luxurious vessels.

  • Custom-designed movie theaters with state-of-the-art sound systems, plush seating, and curated film libraries offer a perfect entertainment space for guests.
  • Ideal for underwater exploration, these submarines offer guests a unique view of marine life, shipwrecks, and other underwater treasures. Some are capable of diving to significant depths, opening up an entirely new world below the surface.
  • For those with a penchant for aerial travel, helipads make it easy to hop between the yacht and shore or other remote locations. Some larger yachts even have hangars to store the helicopter.
  • Often located on the deck, these pools and Jacuzzis boast stunning views, especially during sunsets. They often feature waterfalls, swim-up bars, and built-in lounges.
  • These areas often include massage rooms, saunas, steam rooms, beauty salons, and even cryotherapy chambers. A well-trained staff ensures guests receive top-tier treatments.
  • Situated at the stern, beach clubs provide a seamless connection to the ocean. They feature fold-out platforms, lounges, bars, and sometimes even saltwater pools, offering a beach-like experience while afloat.
  • A wide variety of toys, including jet skis, seabobs, inflatable slides, flyboards, diving gear, and more, ensure guests have a variety of activities to choose from.
  • Fitted with the latest fitness equipment, some gyms also have personal trainers onboard. They often have panoramic views, making workouts scenic.
  • For the intellectually inclined, some superyachts showcase curated art collections or house expansive libraries filled with rare books and comfortable reading nooks.
  • Glass-bottom rooms or lounges, sometimes referred to as “Nemo lounges,” allow guests to enjoy marine life without getting wet. It’s a mesmerizing way to connect with the ocean.
  • Music aficionados might find yachts equipped with professional-grade music studios or even small concert halls for private performances. Some owners who are passionate about music or have connections in the entertainment industry will often have this feature onboard.
  • A touch of green luxury. Some superyachts have botanical spaces where guests can enjoy fresh herbs, fruits, or simply a tranquil environment filled with exotic plants, simulating a natural retreat.
  • Instead of just viewing the ocean, some superyachts integrate large-scale aquariums into their design, creating an immersive experience for guests as they dine or relax beside walls teeming with colorful marine life.
  • A few cutting-edge yachts have incorporated synthetic ice rinks or snow rooms onboard. The latter is often part of a spa experience, where guests alternate between hot and cold treatments for therapeutic reasons.
  • For stargazers, an observatory deck offers a clear view of the skies. High-quality telescopes allow guests to gaze upon distant stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. Some yachts even have a dedicated space with domed structures to protect from ambient light and weather conditions.
  • Beyond the typical small boats or jet skis, some superyachts feature dedicated “garages” filled with a collection of luxury watercraft, from high-speed racing boats to elegant wooden sailboats. These tender bays make it easy to deploy a variety of vessels for different on-water activities.
  • Offering a blend of leisure and technology, these rooms are decked out with the latest VR equipment, allowing guests to immerse themselves in games, movies, or simulated exotic destinations from the comfort of the yacht.
  • For the shopping enthusiasts, some yachts feature curated boutiques with luxury brands, bespoke items, or even dive shops with specialized gear. These spaces are reminiscent of high-end stores found in the world’s most exclusive shopping districts.
  • Wine connoisseurs can appreciate a climate-controlled wine cellar stocked with some of the world’s rarest vintages. Some yachts take this a step further, incorporating a dedicated tasting room where guests can experience guided wine tastings.
  • Beyond static aquarium walls, some yacht designs might feature a functional, sizable aquarium where guests can temporarily house fish they catch during their oceanic adventures. It adds an interactive element, allowing guests to observe their catch up close before releasing it back into the wild.

Come Sail Away

There's a certain amount of luxury associated with owning a boat, even if it's a mere speedboat or sailboat for weekend recreation . But over-the-top vessels called "superyachts" take boating to another level of extravagance (and more than one on this list even has a defense system). Here's a look at some of the world's most expensive yachts, including Jeff Bezos' superyacht, which was recently towed away in the dead of the night, possibly to escape angry Dutch residents.

Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos' Superyacht

Estimated price:  More than $500 million

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is one of the richest people in the world, so it makes sense he'd want one of the most expensive yachts in the world. Commissioned in 2018, the reportedly $500 million-plus vessel called Y271 was built in the Netherlands by Dutch company Oceanco. It is a whopping 417 feet long , according to Architectural Digest, making it the world's biggest sailing yacht. In true mega-billionaire fashion, Bezos asked the Dutch city of Rotterdam to dismantle  a section of its historic Koningshavenbrug Bridge in order for the yacht to pass through, but the answer was a resounding no after an outcry. The drama continued as Bezos recently had the vessel towed away  in the dead of the night to a further shipping yard, presumably when angry Dutch residents wouldn't be out to throw eggs at the monstrosity. Amazingly, this monster of the seas won't accommodate a helipad, so Bezos has commissioned a backup yacht to allow his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, a helicopter pilot, a place to land her bird. Fun fact: The cost of the yacht is about twice what Bezos paid to buy The Washington Post in 2013. Alas, pictures of the secretive project are hard to come by so far.

Pelorus

Estimated price: $300 million

Pelorus has changed hands a few times, passing through those of megayacht owners Roman Abramovich and David Geffen, who upgraded to even bigger boats on this list. The latest owner is property magnate Samuel Tak Lee. He (or, we assume, someone he hires) captains the 377-foot yacht via joystick .

Pelorus Interior

Pelorus: Interior

Pelorus' interior feels like an " informal beach house ." Terence Disdale designed the wood paneling to look natural and distressed, even though it was manufactured specifically for Pelorus. It can accommodate a total of 22 guests in 11 cabins, including the master and two VIP rooms, plus 41 crew to serve them.

Pelorus Amenities

Pelorus: Amenities

The top deck has two pools, and the sea-level transom opens onto a platform from which to launch water toys or just lounge by the ocean. It was Abramovich who added the second helipad , for the billionaire who needs room for more than one helicopter. Pelorus also features stabilization systems at sea and at anchor, for smooth sailing that is common for most of the yachts on this list. Many yachts have movie theaters, but the one onboard Pelorus includes beds.

Radiant

Emirati businessman Abdulla Al Futtaim bought Radiant from Russian media billionaire Boris Berezovsky. It's easy to see how this 361-foot superyacht, reportedly worth $300 million  and originally named Darius, earned the name Radiant when you see it lit up at night.

Radiant Interior

Radiant: Interior

Al Futtaim has kept photographers out of Radiant's cabins, but we know it can host 20 guests in 10 cabins, plus 44 crew. The decks are made of teak, and designer Tim Heywood used a large beam to leave the interior wide open. It also has an extremely powerful water canon  to defend itself against attacks.

Radiant: Amenities

When Berezovsky was designing Radiant, he included an "escape launch," a turbo-charged twin diesel speed boat that can shoot him out of the yacht at 75 knots . You've got to wonder who he thought he needed to escape from, but we're sure Al Futtaim can sleep easier on the sea knowing it's there. There's also a helipad  to allow guests and VIPs to easily come and go from the yacht, along with a cinema, a gymnasium, a swimming platform, swimming pools, a beach club, and massage rooms.

Motor Yacht A

Motor Yacht A

Estimated price: $323 million

Russian fertilizer and coal magnate Andrey Melnichenko owns this 390-foot yacht. It may look like a submarine, but it doesn't submerge. This motor yacht (not to be confused with Melnichenko's sailing yacht ) includes bomb-proof glass, which is apparently the sort of thing billionaires need to think about. At least it served him well until he listed it for sale in 2016 , although there didn't seem to be any takers — Melnichenko still owns it.

Motor Yacht A Interior

Motor Yacht A: Interior

Designer Philippe Starck wanted to create a wide open space, so the main deck of Motor Yacht A is a single saloon across the length of the interior — that's what's under that long submarine nose. The opulent interior includes Baccarat-crystal tables and polished silver . There are almost 24,000 square feet of interior space (making it many times larger than most American homes), and in the master suite there's a secret "nookie room" hidden behind mirrors. The yacht is big enough to accommodate 14 guests in the owner's suite and six guest suites. The chairs on the yacht are made from alligator hides and the walls are covered in hand-stitched calf's leather.

Motor Yacht A Amenities

Motor Yacht A: Amenities

The A's three swimming pools manufacture currents for swimming upstream, like an underwater treadmill. One of those pools has a glass floor so you can look up at swimmers from the deck below. Starck's favorite spot is reportedly the tender garage , the place on a yacht that houses smaller boats and other billionaire toys. On Motor Yacht A, these get their own luxurious cabins, just like the human guests.

Dubai

Estimated price: $350 million

Previously named Platinum, Panhandle, and Golden Star, this 532-foot yacht valued at $350 million  was built for Brunei Prince Jefri Bolkiah. Now called Dubai, it belongs to  Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Al Maktoum of the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai Interior

Dubai: Interior

Make your way up and down Dubai's seven decks — one of them with an air-conditioned enclosure, perfect for the Gulf's hot climate — on the yacht's magnificent circular staircase , where the glass changes color as you step. You've heard of a red carpet? Here, glamorous guests can sit on gigantic, circular red sofas. The yacht's social spaces feature a variety of salons, and there are 50 guest suites. The VIP portion of the ship, meanwhile (in case you didn't already view the entire, lavish yacht as a VIP experience), is a sprawling apartment divided into three suites and a home theater.

Dubai Amenities

Dubai: Amenities

Most yachts have swimming pools, but what other yacht turns the swimming pool into a work of art ? Al Maktoum's guests can open their eyes underwater to see the pool's beautiful handmade mosaics, which were designed to be reminiscent of the marine life in the Persian Gulf. Other parts of Dubai also feature a mix of tile materials — gold leaf, marble, onyx, lazuli, and malachite — to create a work of art everywhere you walk. And like every self-respecting yacht owner, the sheikh has a helicopter station on board , which can which can accommodate a Sikorsky S76 or any other helicopter up to 9.5 tons.

Yacht A+

Estimated price: $450 million

Formerly known as Topaz, the $450 million A+ certainly makes the grade at 482 feet long and eight decks tall. While it's owned by Sheikh Mansour Al Nahyan of the UAE (half-brother of ruler Abu Dhabi Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan), the flag flown by A+ represents the Cayman Islands .

Yacht A+ Interior

Yacht A+: Interior

While few details about the yacht have been made public, it is known that A+ can accommodate up to 62 guests between 26 cabins with further capacity for 79 crew members spread amid 35 additional cabins. During its Topaz days in 2014, Leonardo DiCaprio  hosted an '80s-themed party on the yacht that included the likes of Jamie Foxx and Orlando Bloom. With friends like these, who needs their own yacht?

Additional highlights include a cinema, study, sauna, spa, Turkish-style bath, gym, library, and observation lounge. And like any yacht worthy of a sheikh, Yacht A+ also has a helipad.

Serene

Estimated price: $458 million

The Stoli vodka empire afforded Yuri Shefler this yacht, but he sold it to then-deputy Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in 2015 for 350 million euros or $458 million after only a few years of sailing. You can see all 440 feet of Serene glowing neon turquoise  in the pitch-black sea at night.

Serene Interior

Serene: Interior

Serene has six decks and more than twice as many crew members to serve them. Guests can dine well onboard Serene thanks to a wood-fired pizza oven and Teppanyaki grill. Each area is a circular design by Reymond Langton, incorporating pure white, wood, and leather, and the occasional chandelier. The formal dining area, a room flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows, features two tables accommodating up to 12 people each.

Serene Amenities

Serene: Amenities

Amenities abound on this yacht, which rivals a 5-star hotel. They include seven pools, one of which is a salt-water swimming pool, a supersized hot tub, sauna, and helipad. There's also a sky lounge that offers views from every angle, an indoor climbing wall, and an underwater observation lounge. Bill Gates once paid $5 million per week to enjoy all this fabulousness.

Rising Sun

Estimated price: $590 million

When you create Geffen Records and co-create Dreamworks, you can have a $590 million yacht  like David Geffen. But the Rising Sun didn't get to dock at Cannes until Geffen bought it from Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Nor did it host Oprah  before Geffen was there to invite her yachting.

Rising Sun Interior

Rising Sun: Interior

Forty-five crew members vastly outnumber the potential 16 guests. The living space on this yacht totals more than 8,000 square meters, which is spread over five levels. There's also 3,300 square meters of deck space covered in teak. Additional luxe touches include countertops made from onyx, a full gym (because we all know celebrities absolutely must stay in shape), and a massive wine cellar.

Rising Sun Amenities

Rising Sun: Amenities

Naturally there's a movie theater aboard the Rising Sun, given Geffen's marquee spot in the industry. The theater features an enormous plasma screen, but of course. There's also a basketball court, sauna, and spa. And before you even ask, yes, there's a helipad. Yawn.

Somnio Superyacht

Estimated price:  $600 million

This 728-foot "yacht liner," the world's first, is slated to sail beginning in 2024 . It will feature 39 luxury apartments that will be available via invitation only, and owners' identities will remain secret. Plans call for its apartments to have "bespoke features" that will be tailored to the whims of each buyer.

Somnio Superyacht

Somnio: Amenities

Amenities are expected to include a 10,000-bottle wine cellar , a gym and library, an onboard beach club, several restaurants and bars, and "seven-star service" that will include full concierge and medical services.

Azzam

Estimated price: $605 million

Azzam is owned and was commissioned  by Abu Dhabi Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates. A 590-foot yacht, Azzam cost about $605 million to make  and is said to be environmentally friendly, featuring decreased carbon dioxide, noise, and soot emissions. (Thank goodness the world's billionaires are thinking about the environment.)

Azzam Interior

Azzam: Interior

Al Nahyan keeps the interior of his yacht private — there have been no known photographs made public. But we know it features six decks, a 95-foot main salon, and enough room for 60 crew members in 30 cabins. There are also said to be 18 staterooms that can accommodate up to 36 guests. The interior style, designed by Christophe Leoni, is described as a relaxed French Empire style . And it's rumored that Azzam has a bulletproof master cabin , as you do.

Azzam Amenities

Azzam: Amenities

Some of the more unique features of Azzam include a submarine and a missile defense system (because what world leader doesn't need these things?) There's also a water desalination drinking-water system that runs on waste heat from the engine .

Eclipse

Estimated price: $700 million

Chelsea Football Club owner and Russian-Israeli billionaire Roman Abramovich owns this modest $700 million yacht . Created by legendary ship builders Blohm + Voss, the Eclipse took five years to complete, a timeline that included design, development, and testing. As any good superyacht would, the finished product included a missile defense system and "laser shield" that Abramovich uses to thwart prying paparazzi .

Eclipse Interior

Eclipse: Interior

Terence Disdale designed the interior  with teak and silver — actual silver — rubbed into the grain of the black wood walls. There are 18 cabins, which can sleep as many as 36 guests. Eclipse also accommodates a mind-boggling 70 crew members.

Eclipse Amenities

Eclipse: Amenities

Notable perks  on this superyacht include two swimming pools, several hot tubs, a disco hall, a 56-meter owner's deck, two helipads, and three (yes, three) helicopters. Just in case all of that extravagance isn't enough, there's also a three-man submarine, because no self-respecting billionaire can ever have too many pricey toys.

Megayacht Scheherazade

Scheherazade

This 459-foot superyacht is impressive, but what really has people buzzing is the mystery about who actually owns it. While Russian oil tycoon Eduard Khudainatov is said to be the owner (and he isn't currently under sanctions), the U.S. believes the real owner is Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Scheherazade

Scheherazade: Interior

While the custom build hasn't been made available for public viewing, some details have been released by the shipyard or spotted by yacht watchers. Allegedly the ship has gold fixtures in all bathrooms  and a tiled dance floor that, when a button is pushed, lowers to become a pool. There's also a movie theater and a lounge with the biggest TV ever on a yacht — a whopping 14.7 feet across. An aquarium, a mobile hospital unit, a judo studio, a gym, a formal ballroom, and a spa with Turkish, Roman, and cold baths are available to enjoy, along with a large pool. There's also an elevator  for access between floors.

Scheherazade: Exterior

While the six-level yacht has limited outdoor space (ostensibly for security reasons), it is well set up for a quick escape. There are two helipads (one at the bow and the other at the stern), one of which opens up to lower a helicopter into a hangar. The vessel is equipped with five tenders, six jet skis, and eight seabobs. There's also a drone-crashing system  in case anyone unwanted gets too close.

Admiral X Force

Admiral X Force

Estimated price: $1 billion

At an estimated 476 feet long (about the length of two jumbo jets) and 62.4 feet wide, the in-development $1 billion X Force  will look like a sleek, futuristic mansion of the seas.  Created and developed by Dobroserdov Design Studio and Admiral Yachts, this five-level superyacht will be visually stunning at every turn.

Admiral X Force Interior

Admiral X Force: Interior

The owner of Admiral X Force will have an entire level to themselves, which will include a master suite, a living room, dressing rooms, bathrooms, a private dining room, a sun deck, a spa, and a heliport (because your heliport can never be too close, after all). On X Force's second level, there will be a main hall decorated with a fireplace, fountains, a chandelier, and a staircase finished with crystal balustrades. Designed by Gianmarco Campanimo , it's meant to be a futuristic interpretation of classic luxury. Additional design elements include marble floors and gold and silver sculptures.

Admiral X Force Amenities

Admiral X Force: Amenities

There's a plan for a two-level beach club on the Admiral X that includes such features as an indoor spa, a gym, a bar, a Jacuzzi, and swimming pools. Additional amenities include yet another helipad, as well as two cinemas.

Thor Explore

Thor Explore

Estimated price:  Not yet available

One of the latest additions to the superyacht club, the Thor Explore  concept was created by Gresham Yacht Design and measures 328-feet long. Yet another vessel that bills itself as futuristic (are you sensing an emerging theme here among superyachts?), the sleek Thor Explore will come complete with a mission control center where owners can map out their adventures exploring the globe.

Thor Explore interior

Thor Explore: Interior

Interior design highlights on Thor Explore include expansive nautilus windows , a floor-to-ceiling aquarium, and, on the main deck, an enormous saloon featuring a glass floor. As if the glass floor isn't striking enough, it can turn opaque at the flick of a switch, in case privacy is suddenly required. There's also a sunken seating area created to look like it floats between decks. The yacht can be designed to accommodate as many 36 guests.

Thor Explore amenities

Thor Explore: Amenities

Of course, there's an onboard beach club. That's practically a given on superyachts. But to reach the beach club, passengers must walk along a circular corridor where there's a cylindrical aquarium. Cool, right? There are also fold-down balconies, a helideck, and a hangar for storing a submarine, speedboat, and more.

About luxury yachts

A luxury yacht, also known as a superyacht, mega yacht or even a giga yacht, is a grand vessel that can be powered by sail or motor and boasts multiple decks, luxurious cabins, indoor and outdoor lounges, sunbathing areas, garages for tenders and water toys, wheelhouse, spa, and many other amenities. Some yachts are exclusively used by their owners, while others are available for charter year-round.

What is a luxury yacht?

A luxury yacht, also known as a superyacht, mega yacht or even a giga yacht, depending on its size, can be powered by sail or motor. These grand vessels boast multiple decks, including an upper, main, and lower deck, with indoor and outdoor lounges, sunbathing areas, a garage for tenders and water toys, a wheelhouse, and luxurious cabins for the owner, guests, and crew. The superstructures are often topped with radomes, domes that protect satellite and radar antennas.

Some yachts are exclusively used by their owners, while others are available for charter year-round. The cost of chartering a yacht includes operational expenses such as taxes, fuel, water toys, meals and beverages, marina fees, and gratuities for the crew.

What equipment can superyachts accommodate?

These mega yachts are akin to floating palaces, with a vast number of cabins. Many yachts over 50 meters have a gym, and often have a helipad. Some even have a basketball court, infinity pool, cinema, nightclub, conference rooms, spa with Jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, massage room, hair salon. They also have a garage for water toys like jet skis, paddleboards and slides, as well as a tender or dinghy, which is used to reach the shore or the marina.

What are the top luxury yacht brands?

When it comes to luxury yachts, some of the most well-known and respected brands include Azimut, Benetti, Ferretti, and Sunseeker.

How much does a luxury yacht cost?

The cost of a luxury yacht can vary greatly depending on factors such as size, brand, and amenities. Prices can range from a few million dollars for a smaller vessel to hundreds of millions of dollars for the most opulent superyachts.

What is the difference between a yacht and a superyacht?

While the terms “yacht” and “superyacht” are often used interchangeably, there is a difference in definition. A yacht is generally considered to be any vessel used for pleasure cruising, while a superyacht is a larger, more luxurious vessel that is typically over 24 meters in length. But many would say a megayacht is at least 200 feet (or 60 meters) in length and might host 12 to 15 people.

What amenities can be found on a luxury yacht?

Luxury yachts can be outfitted with a wide variety of amenities, including multiple staterooms, dining areas, lounges, gyms, spa facilities, and even helipads. Many also feature advanced navigation and entertainment systems, as well as dedicated crew quarters.

What is the difference between a superyacht, a megayacht and a luxury yacht?

A superyacht or megayacht is a large and luxurious pleasure vessel. Typically, the European yacht industry uses the term superyacht (or superyacht) while the United States often uses the term megayacht (or superyacht). As the yacht industry continues to grow, the use of super to describe a large luxury yacht seems to be more common around the world. It has been generally accepted by naval architects and industry executives that superyachts range from 37 m (≈120 ft) to 60 m (≈200 ft), while those over 60 m are known as megayachts and boats over 90 m (≈300 ft) have been referred to as giga-yachts.

How do I maintain a luxury yacht?

Maintaining a luxury yacht requires a dedicated team of professionals, including a captain, crew, and maintenance personnel. Regular upkeep and repairs, as well as scheduled maintenance, are essential to keep the yacht in top condition.

What are the best places to cruise on a luxury yacht?

Some of the most popular destinations for luxury yacht cruises include the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific. Each of these regions offers a unique blend of natural beauty, culture, and luxury amenities.

Can I purchase a luxury yacht for personal use or for chartering?

Yes, you can purchase a luxury yacht for personal use or chartering. If you choose to charter your yacht, it can generate an income while you are not using it.

How do I charter a luxury yacht?

To charter a luxury yacht, you can contact a yacht charter company or a broker who will help you find the perfect vessel for your needs. They will help you with the contract, the yacht selection and itinerary planning.

There are several important factors to consider when choosing the right watercraft:

  • The size and layout of the yacht – this largely depends on the number of people who will be on board, whether a banquet is planned on the deck, dancing, etc;
  • Destination – where exactly you are going to go on the yacht;
  • The budget for the charter;
  • Available facilities on board and additional services (catering, spa, etc.).

Take into account the fact that the size of the yacht largely affects the rental price, the set of amenities on board, and the vessel’s overall smoothness. In addition, the number of people, age, and experience level of the crew also depends on the size of the water transport. All this affects the quality of the services provided.

Tips for those who are renting a yacht for the first time

For most first-timers, chartering a yacht can seem intimidating but exciting. There are many things to consider, from the size of the ideal yacht and the trip’s location to legal issues and additional costs.

Preparing properly is worthwhile to have an unforgettable travelling experience. It means sorting out many things, from what you need for your trip to knowing the etiquette on board and how to use your time efficiently when travelling on the water.

How to properly prepare for a yacht trip

Preparing yourself first is a good idea before embarking on a luxury yacht trip in Dubai. In this case, you need to think about the following aspects:

  • Finding a suitable destination;
  • Choosing a reliable yacht charter company that provides a wide range of vessels and optimal conditions for travelling;
  • Checking the weather forecast before travelling.

In addition, it is necessary to prepare a package of all necessary documents in advance so that no questions arise during the trip: passport, visa, bareboat certification (if you are going to operate the vessel on the water by yourself), and other papers.

Rules of onboard etiquette

If you will be on board a rented vessel for a long time, you should learn some rules of etiquette in advance. You should pay attention to them if you want to spend a pleasant time on a luxury yacht. In particular, you should know the following rules:

  • Always have a tip for the crew that will serve you during the journey.
  • Be sure to observe the ‘barefoot rule’ on board. The fact is that you can only enter the yacht with clean shoes or take off your shoes. You cannot walk on deck in black-soled shoes or heels, as they will leave marks. Walking around the yacht completely barefoot is dangerous, as you can injure your feet on protruding parts.

It would help if you also treated the boat’s property and equipment with respect. You should take care of them just as you would your belongings. The equipment and property of a rented yacht are quite expensive and should be handled responsibly and with care.

How to get the most out of your holiday on a charter yacht

You should balance activity and relaxation to make your yacht charter holiday an exceptionally positive experience. Be sure to choose the type of yacht that will offer all the amenities and services matching your interests and preferences. Whether you like to be active or relaxed, you will be able to find the perfect activity to make your time on a yacht charter as enjoyable as possible. You can have a great time on a yacht in several ways:

  • Sunbathing for a velvety tan;
  • Water skiing;
  • Sup-surfing;
  • Diving, and much more.

The possibilities are numerous and you can easily fulfil them on board your yacht charter. You need to worry about having the right equipment in advance.

Conclusions

In conclusion, a yacht charter is the best way to ensure a luxurious trip. This leisure option perfectly combines incredible experiences, luxury and a sense of complete freedom in the open waters of Dubai. If you want everything to go right, it’s worth choosing the right type of vessel, following safety rules on board and planning your holiday from the destination to how you’ll spend your time on board.

An American billionaire is visiting Toronto on his fancy $75 million superyacht

Latest Videos

A striking display of personal wealth is turning heads on Toronto's waterfront, with an American billionaire's luxury superyacht currently moored at Harbourfront.

The personal yacht of U.S. billionaire Jay Schottenstein, who serves as chairman and CEO of Schottenstein Stores Corporation, American Eagle Outfitters and American Signature, has been spotted on the waterfront.

Schottenstein, with an estimated net worth of at least $1.5 billion USD and a family net worth of approximately $2.8 billion USD, is the owner of a 200-foot luxury superyacht called Just J's, which comes with an outlandish list of features few of us normies could dream of.

Constructed at Dutch shipyard  Hakvoort  and delivered to Schottenstein in 2016, the luxury vessel is valued at $75 million USD and is estimated to cost roughly $7 million USD per year in maintenance costs.

The yacht is designed with a capacity for 12 guests and a crew of 16, and comes with some pretty impressive features fit for the billionaire lifestyle.

Amenities on board Just J's include a two-by-three-metre pool with a contraflow system, along with a movie room, a gym, a tender vessel, and even large gullwing doors that open on either side of the yacht, where jet skis can be launched.

The yacht's name is a play on the Schottenstein family's naming convention, where all members have names beginning with the letter 'J.' After Jay married his wife Jeanne, they went all in on the letter with three sons named Joseph, Johnathan and Jeffrey. The tradition has extended to Schottenstein's grandchildren, who are named Jacob and Jonah.

By Nina Done   Last Updated: 11 January 2022

The pandemic has been the ultimate disrupter making us all take a frank look at our lives with completely fresh eyes, where the simple things in life: loved ones, hugs, fresh air and space have suddenly become incredibly potent, placing much greater emphasis on family and friends. For the luxury yacht charter market this has translated into a massive uptick in bookings, where the focus has turned towards the exhilarating potential of the vessel itself.

For yacht charters at the start of the pandemic it was all about where to go to avoid infection, now, with the tentacular reach of the pandemic touching most shores across the globe, it has become a question of what . What features and amenities can a charter yacht deliver for the ultimate luxury vacation?

It's all about the amenities

Forget expensive berths or crowded waterfront brasseries, think yacht amenities, highly-trained crew and an overflowing toy chest full of the latest water sports gear.

Guests enjoying the pool onboard MY Axioma

We think the time has come to consider yacht charter from a new angle...It’s yachting how we know it but rarely think of it: the yacht as the destination.

Most popular features on a superyacht

From Michelin-starred chefs, expansive beach clubs and wellness centres to infinity pools, state-of-the-art gadgets and underwater observatories, superyachts can deliver myriad phenomenal experiences without the need to ever leave the yacht. To top it off, charter guests can enjoy top-notch service 24/7 from the yacht's professional and highly-attentive crew.

We have hand-picked some of the best superyacht luxuries for the ultimate yacht charter vacation.

Food glorious food!

When it comes to chartering, one of the most essential ingredients is the food, often considered the most important part of a luxury yacht vacation; and for superyacht clientele only the best chef will do.

A chef cooking at a BBQ onboard a yacht

Most yacht chefs are highly qualified and generally come with bags of experience, with some even boasting a Michelin star or two!

Yachting makes every charter a new adventure. It is a challenge and presents new culinary opportunities with each new guest and their ever-changing carousel of preferences. Freelance yacht chef Emanual Vasquez

The best thing about yacht chefs is that all onboard meals are perfectly tailor-made around the specific preferences of the charter guests, as well as any dietary requirements, food intolerances or allergies, offering guests sublime dining experiences every night.

Chef Willy Pastel onboard MY Aquila

Charter guests can experience a wide variety of enticing dishes as yacht chefs are continually called upon to create a range of cuisines, although like any chef they will have specialist areas of expertise, such as classically-trained French chef Willy Pastel who has worked with some of the best chefs in the industry and is currently creating his heavenly dishes onboard the 85-meter luxury yacht AQUILA

For the ultimate yacht charter gourmet extravagance, look no further than the eminent 70m classic yacht SHERAKHAN where you will find Michelin-starred chef Toine Smulders creating his magical culinary masterpieces for up to 26 charter guests, and describes his signature style as: ‘La cuisine du soleil’.

Toys that make a splash

Whether you prefer high-octane adventures or something a little more sedate, the latest water sports equipment are an absolute must when it comes to chartering a yacht, and with such easy access to the water the sky’s the limit.

Inflatables onboard MY Zeal

With social distancing remaining a feature for the foreseeable future, superyacht owners understand the bigger the toy chest, the bigger the draw card for yacht charters. These days, charterers expect more than just a couple of kayaks and a jetski, and owners are unquestionably rising to the challenge, offering guests the very latest trends in superyacht toys from SUPs to submarines.

Powered boards

These are basically surfboards on steroids; from a motorised SUP to a full foiling board that elevates you up out of the water making you feel as if you are flying over the waves at speeds of up to a whopping 25 knots, powered boards are fast becoming the toy of choice for yacht charters.

Lift eFoil's latest powered board

Variations of these jet boards can be found on numerous yachts, including popular charter yacht  AT LAST  and the Lurssen yacht  FAITH .

Still enjoying huge success on yacht charters are flyboards , allowing users to hover precariously high above sea level on jet thrusters and perform (well, attempt at least) somersaults before diving into the water below.

Flyboard user onboard SY Maltese Falcon

Thanks to their ever increasing popularity these can now be found on a wide range of charter yachts, such as Abeking and Rasmussen's CLOUDBREAK , Yachtley's ELEMENTS and the iconic sailing yacht MALTESE FALCON .

Inflatables

Inflatable toys offer a great family-friendly alternative to the high-powered vehicles favoured by older teens and adults, and are becoming increasingly innovative. Guests can enjoy a whole range of exhilarating inflatables, including the hugely popular waterslide , Zorbs, Yacht Blobs, trampolines , climbing walls, adventure playgrounds, sea pools and even inflatable swim platforms that also double up as a dock for powered watercraft, ideal for avoiding costly damage to the yacht.

Inflatable toys onboard MY Titania

Some of the best inflatables can be found on yachts such as Christensen's ZEAL  as well as Lurssen's  TITANIA , which includes a vast inflatable water park that can be conveniently deployed from her beach club, comprising a trampoline, climbing frame and a whopping 13-metre inflatable slide - 'one of the largest superyacht slides ever built.'

Underwater fun

This area has seen the biggest demand, where guests can experience the thrill of the big blue with their very own submersible.

The simplest and most commonly encountered on charter yachts are sea scooters, with Seabobs as the most popular brand. These hand-held vehicles offer guests an adrenaline-packed ride beneath the waves, where the hydrodynamic shape allows users to zip along above the water or dive down to explore fascinating seascapes as they are propelled almost silently through the water.

luxury yacht amenities

Of course, to truly experience the treasures concealed beneath the ocean's surface à la Jules Verne is in a personal submarine , found on most large explorer yachts such as LA DATCHA , RAGNAR and GAME CHANGER . These can vary in terms of depth, time underwater and number of people they carry, but in general guests can enjoy exploring fascinating underwater worlds at depths anywhere from 50m to 1,000m for up to 2 to 3 hours.

Submersible under MY La Datcha

Some submersibles come with extra features such as robotic arms and high-definition cameras for the ultimate vacation snapshot. The market for these has grown exponentially, with regular superyachts like OURANOS and NAIA also jumping on the bandwagon.

It provides for guests who are not otherwise capable of diving to enjoy the magic and wonder of the subsea world.

Wreck diving

For anyone looking for the ultimate subaquatic thrill-ride, look no further than motor yacht U-BOAT NAVIGATOR , which can be hired as a support diving vessel alongside your luxury charter yacht.

Wreck diving off U-Boat Navigator

This extraordinary boat not only boasts two Triton 3300 submarines capable of traversing depths of up to 1,000 meters, but is also home to some of the highest trained professional wreck divers in the business, making a trip to the bottom of the ocean a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Discover pure luxury and indulgence

When it comes to wellness amenities, superyachts are up there with the best. From massage rooms to Jacuzzis, beauty salons to cryo-saunas, there is sure to be something to please even the most discerning charter guest.

MY Flying Fox

Wellness amenities are also steadily occupying greater space onboard, with some of the larger superyachts such as  FLYING FOX  boasting multi-level wellness centres. Many charter yachts also offer their own dedicated therapists, yoga instructors and personal trainers for the ultimate luxury charter experience.

Massage onboard MY Lana

Gyms are another popular wellness feature on a yacht charter, allowing guests to maintain their fitness regime whilst onboard, especially after indulging in the chef’s divine cuisine. These can range from a running machine and some weights to a full-blown dedicated gym with all the bells and whistles.

Award-winning Feadship JOY  offers guests wide sweeping views of their surroundings as they work up a sweat in her glass-enclosed bridge deck gym, with a further gym located in her aft beach club, as well as myriad other wellness features, including a convertible basketball court!

Gym onboard MY Joy

Superyacht wellness amenities are becoming increasingly innovative too, where guests can indulge in anything from explorer yacht LA DATCHA’s LED-lit stalagmite ice fountain which produces a beneficial and invigorating blast of cold ice on hot skin, to the cryo-sauna found onboard the superyacht FLYING FOX, which evenly reduces body temperature in minutes, ideal for muscle recovery.

Wellness area onboard MY La Datcha

For the ultimate in luxurious wellness amenities, the spectacular hybrid Feadship SAVANNAH has it all, including a 30-foot swimming pool, basketball court, gym, sauna, Hammam spa and beauty salon, as well as a dedicated onboard beauty therapist and masseuse.

Beach Clubs

Beach clubs have ingeniously transformed the traditional aft deck into an additional selling point for the yacht, offering charter guests a range of excellent waterfront facilities, from lounge terraces, bars and dive centres to gyms, Hammam spas and swim platforms.

Beach club onboard MY Faith

Beach clubs are also a great way of getting close to the action, even if guests aren’t going into the water themselves, making this area perfect for charter guests with children or those that simply prefer to hang out and stay dry whilst enjoying beautiful sea-level views.

One amenity that more and more clients are asking for is a beach club on board; this allows guests to be closer to the water level, allowing them to easily access or watch others playing with the water toys.

Beach club onboard MY Tatiana

The most impressive superyacht beach club has to be the spectacular luxury yacht TATIANA , which was launched in 2021 and features two stunning multi-level swimming pools, Hammam spa, sunbeds, massage room and a bar.

Movie nights

Sometimes there's nothing better than curling up and watching a movie, especially on charter. There is always so much adventure to cram in, it can often feel like a blessed relief when someone suggests a movie night.

Onboard cinemas hold massive appeal when it comes to booking yacht charters, where the small plasma screen in the main salon has been usurped, in a big way. From dedicated luxurious cinema suites to vast projector screens on the sundeck, superyachts have got you covered.

Alfresco cinema onboard SY Maltese Falcon

Some of the most notable superyacht cinema set-ups include Perini Navi's MALTESE FALCON , whose impressive alfresco cinema is world-beating. Guests can watch from the yacht’s Jacuzzi as they take in a movie under the stars on the world’s largest superyacht cinema screen.

Cinema on MY Axioma

For an indoor cinema experience non pareil, celebrity favourite motor yacht AXIOMA boasts an elegant art deco cinema room on her lower deck with 8 sumptuous reclining seats, tiered to recreate the experience of a real cinema, complete with surround sound (and popcorn).

Yacht charters around the Mediterranean

With Europe actively encouraging visitors from the US and other non-EU countries, the Mediterranean is a great place to charter this summer, with endless destinations at your fingertips.

luxury yacht amenities

Whilst it may not be prudent, or even possible, to meander bustling market stalls or dine in a busy French Riviera restaurant right now, this region offers endless idyllic destinations for guests to explore, such as the strikingly beautiful rugged islands of Corsica and Sardinia , the inimitable volcanic splendor of the  Aeolian islands , some of the more tranquil regions of the Balearics or the verdurous islands and archaeological splendour of Greece , Croatia and Turkey , to name but a few.

The world is your oyster onboard a luxury charter yacht

With the open ocean beckoning, yacht charters are not limited or constrained by where they wish to travel, leaving yachts free to uncover a tantalising array of unique destinations across the globe both above the water and below, offering guests exclusive luxury yacht charter opportunities wherever they choose to cruise.

From the tropical paradise island clusters of the Maldives to the majestic glacial beauty of Alaska , the possibilities for outstanding yacht charter destinations are simply endless.

Putin rattled after Moscow ‘under attack from biggest ever drone strike’

Moscow came under one of the largest attacks yet by Ukrainian drones since the start of fighting in 2022, further rattling Vladimir Putin as he attempts to fight Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region.

The Ministry of Defence claimed that Russia downed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 11 destroyed over the Moscow region, 23 over the Bryansk region, six over Belgorod, three over Kaluga and two over Kursk.

Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on his Telegram channel: ‘This was one of the biggest attempts of all time to attack Moscow using drones.’

He said strong defences around the capital made it possible to shoot down all the drones before they could hit their intended targets.

Some Russian social media channels shared videos of drones apparently being destroyed by air defence systems, which then set off car alarms.

Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, reported a ‘mass’ attack on his region but that 23 drones were destroyed.

The moment the Russians shot down a Ukrainian UJ-22 kamikaze drone with a 500 miles range.

While Ukraine has been bogged down in a land conflict in eastern Europe in which the Russians have been driving forward slowly at a heavy cost to both sides, Kyiv has also been attacking Russia with drones.

Ukraine has targeted oil refineries and airfields in an attempt to weaken Russia’s fighting potential, and has also targeted the capital several times.

The drone attacks come as Ukrainian forces are continuing to push into Russia’s western Kursk region.

The daring incursion into Russia has raised morale in Ukraine with its surprising success and changed the dynamic of the fighting.

A major kamikaze drone strike by Ukraine on capital Moscow

But it is uncertain how long Ukraine will be able to hold the territory it has seized in Kursk.

It has also opened up another front in a fight where Ukrainian forces were already badly stretched.

The gains in Kursk come as Ukraine continues to lose ground in its eastern industrial region of Donbas.

The Institute for the Study of War, a think tank based in Washington, said in its daily report late on Tuesday that the Ukrainians had made additional advances in their incursion, now in its third week.

The Russian state news agency Tass reported that 31 people had died since Ukraine’s attack on Russia began on August 6, citing an unnamed source in the medical service – figures which are impossible to verify.

5 things to know about america’s newest cruise line.

The new cruise line launched in 2021.

Atlas Ocean Voyages has certainly made a splash with its triad of superyachts that immediately entered the Polar expedition market after the line launched its first sailing in 2021. Typically, cruise lines test out more tried-and-true destinations like the Caribbean or the Mediterranean when they start. Not so with Atlas though, which dived in “bow first” into the Antarctic market with luxury sailings at a lower price point than the competition.

That’s what set travel advisors a-flurry. They were used to selling luxury, once-in-a-lifetime dream vacations at the Poles for five digit-starting prices, a number this cruise line has slashed significantly.

These days, Atlas Ocean Voyages has expanded beyond the typical Polar trips, but to many travelers, says Chris Gray Faust, executive editor for Cruise Critic, it still remains an unknown brand.

Here are five things to know about America’s newest cruise line.

A fleet of three, and just three

Atlas Ocean Voyages has three ships, which it calls super yachts, in its fleet.

Atlas launched with World Navigator in late 2021, a ship that can hold 196 passengers (far fewer than its luxury competitors like Seabourn or Regent Seven Seas). All ships in the fleet have almost a 1-to-1 staff to guest ratio. The line has continued the same trend with World Traveller, which debuted in 2022, and its newest vessel, World Voyager. It began sailing late last year.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. John Gotti III Results: Winner And Reaction

Apple iphone 16 release date: new report hones in on precise date, it ‘ends now’—donald trump reveals surprise assault on ‘crooked’ wall street.

Its fleet is all purpose-built expedition vessels, something that competitor lines have added after testing the marketplace, comprising Polar Category C- and Ice Class 1B-certified ships. And these aren’t the expedition ships of years past, they look more like billionaire yachts and are built to withstand environmental pressures in the same way those money makers withstand market ups and downs.

Atlas has ships in the Polar regions almost the entire year.

Atlas Ocean Voyages is the only luxury cruise line to offer Polar expeditions on almost a year-round basis with ships rotating between the Poles. It does not sail during April or October to either region. This past winter season, its entire fleet was operating expedition sailings in Antarctica. No other cruise line has doubled down in such a way.

This year, it has two of its super yachts in the Arctic. Its goal, say executives, is to take people to the polar edges of the Arctic and the Antarctic without charging what the competition does, but without missing out on the premium that such an exclusive trip would cost. That sweet spot is unique in expedition cruising.

A guest room aboard Atlas Ocean Voyages

It is also offering several fly-in options to the seventh continent so that queasy travelers do not need to endure the sometimes-rocky Drake Passage. Starting in the 2025-2026 season, the line will double the number of fly-in options.

Operating smaller cruise ships also gives it an edge in the buyout world of incentive and corporate groups that often book bucket-list vacations as a reward for employees. But, it takes time to gain a foothold in the market.

“It is always a bit of a gamble for us starting out with a cruise line we haven’t chartered previously,” says Jeff Gundvaldson, president and owner of BrandGVacations. “After completing three full-ship charters, with several more on the books, we couldn’t be happier. Our guests absolutely love the design of the ship and her cabins as well as the food and service levels.”

Smaller ships can visit niche ports that larger cruise lines cannot access.

The ships can reach the Polar regions as well as its growing roster of cultural immersion sailings through Iceland, Northern Europe, South America and the Caribbean. These yachts can squeeze into smaller ports and waterways , like the “Corinth Canal in Greece and Guadalquivir River in Spain,” according to the line’s website.

Atlas is a private company with no imminent plans to take the business public and no current plans to grow its fleet.

For now, executives say, the focus is on growing technology and online partner booking systems as well as expanding outreach to travel agents.

An epicurean focus

The grab-and-go market is complimentary and open 24 hours a day.

Its polar sailings are a mainstay of the brand, and they do not skimp on food and beverage (including a unique grab-and-go concept that is open 24 hours a day). But, it is the mid-season, Mediterranean sailings that the young line has turned into a foodie escape.

These cruises are branded “Epicurean Expeditions” and bring aboard well-known chefs and experts from notable restaurants, magazines and TV programs to interact with guests. They vary from sailing to sailing, which is one of the reasons that some travelers choose to do back-to-back itineraries to see the onboard programming and not just the ports of call.

The onboard cuisine often includes local recipes from the day's port of call.

Recent sailings have included food expert Mara Papatheodorou, contributing editor to Bon Appetit magazine, and chocolate expert Julieta Davey, also known as Mamá Cacao.

Other sailings hosted names like Top Chef Brazil winner Luciana Berry, who appears on Bravo, and Peter Campbell, who has had stints on The Food Network and a master pizza chef.

Their expertise not only provides entertainment and value to passengers, but it also helps the cruise line seek out unique experiences for its customers, too.

Many of the presentations and activities, including foodie "cookoffs" between guests take place in ... [+] the lounge.

Activities include live cooking demonstrations, guest lectures, guided port visits to local markets, culinary competitions with guidance from the onboard experts and the chance to chat one-on-one over a meal or in the bar with leaders in the food and beverage industry.

A new partnership with Academia Barilla brings its famous Chef Marcello Zaccaria, who has been personal chef to celebrities and diplomats, aboard select sailings to share everything he knows about pasta from how to cook it properly to what to pair it with during each meal.

Earlier this year, Atlas started its “Cultural Expeditions,” which it says will follow the same type of immersive experience (with onboard experts) as its culinary sailings.

Small ships, big aspirations (especially for sustainability)

The pool deck has two whirlpools and is ringed by a jogging track one deck above it.

While the three super yachts are small (fewer than 200 passengers), they offer plenty of private space with decks at the front and back of the ship for those that don’t want to sit by the main pool.

The size of a smaller ship also allows it the ability to call on niche destinations that the bigger lines cannot visit (even luxury brands like Seabourn and Silversea).

Another element that has been a part of Atlas from the start is having a zero-waste operation in the kitchens. For example, things like onion skins might be turned into onion powder used in sauces for other dishes. Ideally, each sailing would disembark with minimal fruit and vegetables remaining.

Outdoor dining offers a second restaurant option.

Historical data, like with airlines, helps the cruise line plan for the percentage of different food items to provision for a particular sailing, depending on the audience, destination or length of the cruise. This prevents waste of food items that could otherwise go bad.

Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, and since the buffets are heated or chilled in different areas, the cruise line can share leftover dishes with staff in addition to their regular menus. This is a popular perk for cruise staff, but also helps reduce waste.

Atlas Ocean Voyages is focused on operating a sustainable cruise line.

Any food waste gets sent to the pulper, which like on other ships, reduces it to a mulch-like substance that can be used as compost. It really is a zero-waste process. Bones are the only thing that cannot be put in the pulper.

It is not just above deck where the cruise line pays attention to the environment, but below deck, too. The ships are built to respect the underwater life by using a hydro-jet propulsion system that does not disturb marine life, giving passengers the chance to follow marine migrations on some voyages. This is similar to what Celebrity uses in the Galapagos, for example.

More inclusions than expected

Drinks, meals and entertainment are all included in the cruise fare. Cruise directors do double duty ... [+] as performers on many evenings.

Since this line tends to price lower than other smaller ships, the expectation from many travel advisors was that there would be fewer inclusions, but not so says Gray Faust. Atlas includes a long list of extras for all cabins like free minibars and all-hours room service (alcohol is part of the deal), a guided culinary excursion on each sailing and prepaid gratuities. While these might vary by itinerary, the idea is that the cruise line offers more for the discerning traveler than what others might.

The addition of some shore excursions and gratuities puts it in the window of lines like Viking, which have taken the small-ship market by storm in an effort to bring a more exclusive experience to sailors.

Some activities are complimentary, but others carry a fee.

Atlas does not provide complimentary shore excursions in each port of call, however. They sell options of varying lengths and price points. On Polar expeditions, its Zodiac landings are included, but additional activities like kayaking and overnight camping are not.

Onboard entertainment is another area that may surprise. There is a theater, but it is used more for presentations rather than revue shows although live entertainment is a nightly event in the ship’s bars and lounges.

A “second guest sails free” promotion offered outside of peak Polar sailing season has proven popular as Atlas works to build its name. It end Sept. 30 although executives say another promotion will replace it.

An evolved experience

Zephyr Lounge is an outdoor deck popular throughout the day.

When the brand first launched, it had a few service hiccups. But, that does not seem to be the norm anymore, says Gray Faust.

“When Atlas launched in 2021, it positioned itself more as a top-of-the-line luxury brand, which meant it was competing with well-established cruise lines that have been providing amenities such as caviar on demand and butler service for decades. That's a high bar of entry, particularly when we've seen other companies, such as Ritz-Carlton and, soon, Four Seasons, enter that space.”

She noted occasional service hiccups, but that the line has been making strides and correcting that fairly quickly.

Atlas ships sail in the Polar regions almost all year.

Don Bucolo of EatSleepCruise.com agrees, saying that he has noticed more diverse menus, better food flavor and improved service after sailing the line for the second time.

“We were amazed how a few crew members we met on our first sailing remembered us and quickly recalled our drink orders,” says Bucolo. “That level of detail is something you rarely find on larger cruise ships.”

According to Gray Faust, the line hired key industry veterans in 2022 to help with execution.

Atlas executives say that “consistency in execution across all destinations and yachts” is the focus before adding capacity.

There is also a new loyalty program , Atlas Yacht Club, which started earlier this year. Members earn cruise discounts, onboard credits and welcome gifts based on the number of nights they sail.

Atlas yachts have numerous outdoor decks.

“Prices and value have started to build a cadre of loyal guests; meanwhile, the line has worked hard to improve its service and onboard product,” Gray Faust adds.

She praises the onboard amenities that are a standout for small expedition shops. They include things like L’Occitane toiletries in the showers with fantastic pressure and multi-head nozzles, more than one dining option each night (all included) and plentiful power outlets.

While noting great value, Bucolo’s shares that the atmosphere is more relaxed and less stuffy than other more expensive, luxury cruise lines.

Atlas specializes in expedition sailings.

Atlas Ocean Voyages seems to have tapped into a void in the cruise space where price and exclusivity meet bucket-list itineraries. Only time will tell if this strategy will work, but according to Gray Faust, the proof is in the pudding. This affordable approach to expedition luxury is something the cruise industry was missing.

Gray Faust says: “the expedition cruising landscape is more crowded than ever, but Atlas does seem to be carving out a niche for value and giving passengers an excellent trip, at an affordable price.”
