Monaco braces for yacht show mania, traffic curbs and parking woes ahead
Posted by Jack Brodie, Editor-in-Chief | Aug 27, 2024 | News
The Principality is gearing up for its world-famous Yacht Show, set to sail into Port Hercule from Wednesday, September 25 to Saturday, September 28, But before the mega-yachts arrive, the city’s streets are in for some disruption as preparations kick off on Saturday, August 31.
Key thoroughfares like Quai des Etats-Unis/Avenue JF Kennedy, Route de la Piscine, and Quai Antoine I will bear the brunt of these changes, with traffic restrictions beginning as early as Monday, September 9. The usually serene streets around Port Hercule will transform into a buzzing hive of activity, with parking bans and occasional traffic stoppages – even for pedestrians.
Not to worry though, as the organisers, in tandem with state services, promise to ease the chaos with measures to keep traffic flowing during rush hours. School transfers and deliveries will also get special attention to minimise the inconvenience.
Route de la Piscine will see a full traffic block for two weeks to accommodate the setup of exhibition stands, turning the area into a temporary “construction site.” However, the road will remain open during morning rush hour, except for a few critical days surrounding the event.
For those zipping around on two wheels, a temporary parking area for bicycles and motorbikes will be available on Avenue de la Quarantaine from September 9. As the yachts sail away, the streets will gradually return to normal, with all restrictions expected to lift by October 10. So, buckle up, Monaco yacht season is about to make waves.

From all the must-see superyachts to the best places to party after the show, get the complete insider’s guide to the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 .
Running from 28 September to 1 October, the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 will be attracting a fleet of superyachts and thousands of attendees to the Côte d'Azur for the 31st edition of the prestigious boat show.
For four days, Port Hercules will be a hive of activity as thousands of prospective clients and industry players descend on the French Riviera to explore what’s on display on the water and along the stands. Hundreds of exhibitors will be showing off their products and services, with top shipyards , brokerage houses and marine and luxury lifestyle stalls in attendance, along with brand-new areas being unveiled at this year's show.
What’s in store at this year’s show?
This year the show will unveil its brand-new Adventure Area and Sustainability Hub, alongside its popular Design & Innovation Hub and dockside areas committed to the exhibition of superyachts and tenders.
Sustainability Hub
With a renewed focus on sustainability and environmental protection initiatives, the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 will be unveiling its brand new exhibition space dedicated to the research and development of sustainable solutions in yachting.
The Sustainability Hub will also host a variety of exhibitions relating to green renewable solutions and pro-environmental projects in yachting.
Yacht Design and Innovation Hub
Complementing the Sustainability Area will be the popular Yacht Design and Innovation Hub, where the world’s most renowned yacht designers convene to showcase their latest projects, with various presentations on design and eco-responsible projects in yachting taking place in a conference room upstairs (free access). This year, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub also welcomes the historic exhibitors of the Designer Gallery along the Louis Chiron bend of Port Hercules.
Adventure Area
Another new zone for 2022, visitors to the Adventure Area will find a huge array of tenders, all-terrain vehicles, nautical gadgets and equipment. These will be showcased in conjunction with a wide range of activities and services targeting the up-coming generation of superyacht clientele in response to the increase in demand by discerning yacht travellers seeking ever-more thrilling adventures and unique yachting experiences.
Dockside Area
The new Adventure Area will be located within the Dockside Area, home to the afloat exhibition of motor yachts and tenders on the Quai Antoine 1er, Port Hercule.
Please note that the Dockside area is only accessible to Discover, Sapphire and press passes on Wednesday September 28, with access to the general public from Thursday onwards.
Sailing Yacht Area
As in previous years, this area will be situated along the Quai l’Hirondelle, where visitors will be able to step aboard some of the most innovative and technologically advanced sailing yachts in the world, as well as meeting some of the esteemed builders and designers who help to create the magic.
Sapphire Experience
Introduced for the first time last year, the Sapphire Experience is a bespoke tour program for visitors interested in renting or buying a yacht, with a concierge team dedicated to creating a bespoke program of events tailored to take advantage of all there is to experience at the show in true VIP fashion; including scheduled visits on board yachts, attendance at gala evenings or private cocktails on board various luxury vessels. There is also an official Sapphire tender and courtesy car service.
In addition, there are dedicated VIP entrances and lounges for convenience and relaxation throughout the show.
How to get around the Monaco Yacht Show 2022
The show takes place entirely in Port Hercules, but there will also be a number of yachts available for viewing at anchor outside the port. A water taxi is available throughout the show, with seven pick-up and drop-off points conveniently located across the marina.
The official opening times for the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show are: 10.30am-6.30pm every day, except on Saturday when the doors open at 10am and close at 6pm.
What is the official MYS 2022 superyacht lineup?
Currently, with over 130 yachts set to attend this year’s show, including 74 yachts making their debuts in Monaco, the show promises plenty of standout vessels available to view.
One of the most exciting new yachts will be Lurssen’s 115m/378ft motor yacht AHPO . A recent addition to the charter fleet, she will be drawing in plenty of attention with her Nuvolari Lenard exterior styling and palatial interiors.
On the same dock, Golden Yacht’s latest offering in the shape of 88m (289ft) superyacht Project X will also be causing a buzz. Freshly delivered, show-goers shouldn’t miss the opportunity to step on board to admire her beautiful Massari-designed interiors, as well as her 7.5-meter by 3-meter glass-enclosed swimming pool on her aft main deck and vast beach club featuring comfortable lounging area and bar, alongside a wellness suite with Hammam and Finnish Sauna.
Another star of the show will be the 85m (279ft) luxury explorer yacht VICTORIOUS , who wowed visitors last year with her distinctive sleek lines culminating in a 2-meter bowsprit and impressive array of charter-rich features and family-friendly amenities, not to mention the luxury Rolls Royce perched on her helideck bow!
The 75m (247ft) superyacht KENSHÕ will also be making waves for those keen to experience her zen-calm interiors up-close. Launched earlier this year, the innovative vessel redefines the concept of space and layout, providing guests with the ultimate luxurious platform to relax, entertain and socialize onboard.

Where to eat at the Monaco Yacht Show 2022
In Port Hercules, there are a variety of options available for snacks and refreshments, including the Upper Deck Lounge bar & restaurant run by the renowned Fairmont Monte-Carlo, as well as the Sapphire Lounge – a VIP bar and dining experience open exclusively to Sapphire badge holders – both located near the Parvis Piscine entrance.
Monaco itself has no shortage of restaurants to suit every occasion and palate during the show. For something more casual, Rue Princesse Caroline is lined with different restaurants that are well-suited to a light bite.
In the evenings, COYA Monte Carlo is where the in-crowd head for Latin-American fusion and a warm reception. The cocktail menu is expansive, so be sure to try one of their specialties and soak up the buzzy vibes as the evening wears on.
If it’s a sophisticated meal you’re after, Nobu is the ultimate choice. Expect a luxurious backdrop, a refined Japanese menu and a sensational taste experience among fellow show-goers.
Where to party after the Monaco Yacht Show 2022
As ever, Buddha-Bar will be one of the most popular venues for post-show partying in Monaco. The restaurant-bar crossover is a regular stop-off for those looking to dine and dance to the soundtrack of live DJ sets.
Twiga has a similar vibe, with a stellar menu coupled with an unrivalled club scene later in the evenings. Expect Methusalems of champagne topped with sparklers, dazzling entertainment and a no-holds-barred party vibe.
Twiga will be hosting plenty of Monaco Yacht Show-themed parties over the course of the show, so you’d be remiss not to pay the venue a visit, even if it’s just for a cocktail on the terrace.
For a true taste of French Riviera party life, look no further than Jimmy’z. This iconic club will be in full swing over the course of the Monaco Yacht Show, and will be amping up the entertainment with live performances from dance troupes and deck-spinning DJs.
Where to relax after the Monaco Yacht Show 2022
After the show, take the time to unwind and soak up the last of the Mediterranean sun.
Nikki Beach Monte Carlo is still going strong on the roof of the Fairmont Hotel, and offers poolside lounging and a summery soundtrack throughout the day, offset by spectacular views over Port Hercules and the yachts at anchor opposite the marina.
A little outside Monaco in the small town of Eze lies one of the best-kept secrets in the South of France. Anjuna Plage occupies a thin sliver of beach, and boasts a premier restaurant, boutique shop and a laid-back vibe that makes it a fan favourite. Best accessed by yacht, it also has a roster of A-list clientele.
Where to visit after the Monaco Yacht Show 2022
The French Riviera is one of the most beautiful regions in the Mediterranean and has no end of things to see and do. In Monaco, visitors can explore the decadent Monte Carlo casino, browse the Private Collection of Antique Cars of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III or admire the incredible selection of marine life at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
Afterwards, stop by neighbouring Menton to visit Mirazur, a restaurant that was named the Best in the World for 2019. Then, pay a visit to the Val Rahmen Exotic Gardens for an afternoon of botanical bliss.
Head over to Nice for a day of sightseeing and walking the cobbled streets of the city, taking the time to explore the famous Matisse Museum and the pink palace of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
Those looking to travel even further afield can stop by the spa at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes or take a boat ride out to the Lérins Islands outside the bay of Cannes , where you will find the famous Abbey and the superyacht hotspot of La Guerite, a beach club and restaurant on the island.

The Most Impressive Superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show
Following a summer of record demand this year’s event was glitzier than ever.
By Irenie Forshaw
Each September, thousands of yacht builders, designers and owners descend on Port Hercule for the Monaco Yacht Show. It is here, in the heart of the picturesque Côte d’Azur, that boat lovers make their annual pilgrimage to catch a glimpse of the world’s newest – and most exciting – vessels.
This year, the hotly anticipated event took place between September 28 and October 1. And, following a summer of record demand for superyachts spurred by the pandemic, the 2022 iteration was bigger and glitzier than ever.
With over 600 exhibitors showcasing 125 superyachts, there was no shortage of incredible boats on display. So, whether you’re considering taking the plunge and purchasing a yacht of your own, or you’re simply here to marvel at the latest builds, we’ve rounded up the most impressive vessels on display at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Project TIME
Kicking off our list of the biggest reveals at the Monaco Yacht Show is Project TIME. The 282-ft explorer yacht concept is the brainchild of German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen and Valentin Design.
Suited for cold and warm water expeditions, the ship has been designed to travel everywhere from Antarctica to the South Pacific Islands. Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, Project Time would deliver a maximum speed of 16 knots, with a cruising speed of 14 knots, and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
Boasting a helipad platform, submarine, two lounges and even an onboard German brewery, this is no ordinary yacht. The extravagant vessel also features an extra wide owner’s duplex suite complete with two marble bathrooms and an expansive balcony.

Dutch shipyard Feadship unveiled its eleventh cutting-edge yacht concept at the show, Slice. Studio de Voogt was brought in for the project, with the ambitious goal of turning “the inside out and the outside in”. To this end, the design team fitted the yacht with a glass strip running from bow to stern, bathing the decks in natural light.
Unlike many yachts that are plagued by gloomy corridors and claustrophobic living spaces, the interiors onboard Slice are bright and breezy. At the heart of the yacht on the main deck is a sprawling 750-sq-ft atrium flanked by cascading circular balconies, which, according to Feadship is so much more than a lobby and instead becomes “a destination in its own right”.
In a sign of Feadship’s dedication to using the latest technology, Slice would be fitted with a propulsion system powered by four dual-fuel generators modified to run on both methanol and non-fossil diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil), with the generated power delivered to two Azimuthing pods.

Our list of the best superyachts on display at Monaco Yacht Show would not be complete without mentioning Lusine. The 196-ft vessel is Heesen’s largest ever steel Fast Displacement motor yacht and features a sleek silhouette with black thermo-bonded dark glass windows to keep out prying eyes.
Perhaps most impressive of all is the touch-and-go helipad on the sundeck which can accommodate an Airbus H-135. Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design was brought in to mastermind the lavish interiors. Lusine comfortably sleeps twelve set across six spacious staterooms, each of which has been thoughtfully adorned with bespoke furnishings and elegant sculptures. The most exclusive abode is the owner’s apartment located up on the bridge deck which has its own staircase to ensure total privacy.

Come Together
Next up on our list is the first vessel in Amel’s new 60 Limited Edition Series. Designed by Espen Oeino International and built in the Netherlands, Come Together was delivered to her owner this Spring for an estimated €69.5m (approx. $68.6m).
The gleaming new superyacht spans 196 ft and features a teak deck, steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Winch Design is responsible for the laid-back yet elegant interiors that are reminiscent of a relaxed family home in shades of walnut and bronze.
Come Together has been fitted with a hybrid propulsion system for smooth, quiet cruising and features an expansive sun deck and 157-ft swim platform.
espenoeino.com , winchdesign.com
Winch Design and Heesen also unveiled XV67 at the Monaco Yacht Show – a brand new explorer yacht concept that builds on their XVenture design concept from four years ago.
The 187-ft vessel has been given a refreshed layout and updated with the latest technology. While the robust steel hull remains, she is 32 ft longer than her predecessor and the tenders have been moved to the open aft deck freeing up space for even larger guest cabins and an expansive three-story master stateroom.
As seems to be becoming commonplace onboard the newest superyachts, VX67 boasts a helipad (that functions as an al fresco cinema when not in use) and has space to store a personal submarine on deck.

Meyer took the Monaco Yacht Show as an opportunity to share the very first renderings of its sustainable One50 concept. The vessel – which was first unveiled a year ago at the 2021 show – is powered electrically by 25,000 kilowatts enabling her to reach a maximum speed of 23 knots.
After a year long wait to see what One50 could like, the renderings certainly don’t disappoint. Wellness is at the heart of the design; the 492-ft yacht features a retractable swimming pool, massage parlour, sauna and hammam. Other highlights include the top deck which is reserved entirely for the owner’s use and boasts an enormous suite complete with a private terrace.
Four Seasons Yacht
Last but by no means least on our roundup of the most impressive vessels unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show is Four Seasons’ first branded yacht . Slated to set sail at the end of 2025, no expense has been spared by the luxury hotel group, with each suite costing a cool $4.2m to build.
The gigantic vessel will be 679 ft long and 88.6 ft wide with 14 decks and a total of 95 rooms and suites. While the initial launch is just one yacht, the order includes the option to add two further ships in the future – amounting to an eyewatering $1.1bn.
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri will build the Four Seasons yacht in Trieste before Tillberg Design of Sweden and London-based Martin Brudnizki are brought in to put their stamp on the interiors. As you would expect from the luxury hotel brand, the yacht will feature an array of facilities including gourmet restaurants, bars, and a full-service spa.

Nestled comfortably between the Alps and the Mediterranean, the small principality of Monaco is no longer only a sparkling gambler’s playground.A captivating combination of modern luxury, sophisticated style, and enduring culture, Monaco has endless rewards for those who explore its lively heart.
Holding the title as the world’s second smallest country, and occupying an area tinier than London’s Hyde Park, Monaco makes a splash that belies its size from where it hugs the Mediterranean shore. The principality seems to be in a constant state of celebration, welcoming world-class displays of art and sport, while hosting a permanent parade of casinos and exciting nightlife.
Districts Easily mistaken for an exlusive seaside sanctum for the rich and famous, Monaco is a tiny world of lavish casinos, five-star hotels, and generous yacht-filled waters. The enchanting area of Monaco-Ville on the Rock is an old armoured town, and home to such cultural delights as the Prince’s Palace, the Cathedral and the Oceanographic Museum.
Modern Monaco Outside the historical Monaco-Ville however, the vibe is more modern Manhattan than Mediterranean, as Monaco’s contemporary-side shines. Fontvieille is home to a harbour, sports complex, and impressive heliport, while Moneghetti hosts the Révoires and the Exotic Gardens. But the biggest and brightest of all is undoubtedly the capital Monte-Carlo, which for many is Monaco. Full of glittering casinos, luxury hotels and dazzling beaches, Monte-Carlo is a jet-setter’s dream.
Monte-Carlo One of the greatest joys of Monaco is to be found sailing into Monte-Carlo harbour, brilliant at any time of day. Docking before sunrise sees the lights of the principality sparkling throughout the mountains and the brightness of the many casinos lighting up the dawn. Arriving while the sun is high above, allows a spectacular chance to admire the stunning yachts floating on the harbour and marvel at the gleaming neatness of the small country.
Home to royalty and the brightest artistic personalities, Monaco basks in over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a beach-lovers heaven. There are private beaches at both the exclusive Monte-Carlo Beach Club, and the Beach Plaze Sea Club, perfect for sunbathing, relaxing swims and building sandcastles with the family.
Sporting Events Sport is also a much-loved pastime in Monaco, and it is home to several entertaining sporting teams and hosts popular world-class events every year. Those lucky enough to be in Monaco during the third week in May will witness Monaco at its most magnificent, primped and primed for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Monte-Carlo hosts the ATP Masters Series Tennis every April, and has a prestigious team in the French Soccer League whose home matches are a genuine event at the Louis II Stadium. If watching all the exhilarating action has you eager to get active yourself, Monte-Carlo has superior squash and tennis courts, and a panoramic golf course at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.
The Monaco Yacht Show The Cote d’Azur has always been an idyllic location for those in the yachting fraternity, offering glistening blue waters and the most stunning backdrops for a relaxing luxury cruise.
However, every year one of the most important events in the yachting industry is hosted in the crown jewel of the Cote d’Azur. The Monaco Yacht Show transforms the stunning Port Hercules from an unsuspecting luxury port into an exclusive showcase of the world’s largest and most beautiful yachts.
For almost 20 years the Monaco Yacht Show has attracted thousands of enthusiasts, high-net-worth individuals and key industry figures to gather year after year at a show which stands at the very heart of the superyacht industry; the ideal opportunity to witness the true beauty and the attraction of the Cote d’Azur.
