68m Icon flagship to join the Loon charter fleet

The  67.5-metre Loon , formerly Icon , has joined the charter fleet following her sale at the end of April. She is now under the same ownership as the popular 54.8-metre Newcastle superyacht Loon , one of Instagram's most famous yachts for charter. Both are managed by IYC .

First launched in 2010 to a design RWD and Studio Linse , the newest Loon yacht has become well-known in the Bahamas and the wider Caribbean circuit. Her charter success, particularly with American clients, is partially owed to her activity on social media, as well as offering European charter rates in cryptocurrency.

“We're super excited about this new yacht and feel like it’s a great next step for the Loon programme,” said Captain Paul Clarke. “Over the last seven years, we have gone from the 47-metre Christensen to the 55-metre Newcastle and now onto this new 67.5-metre Icon.”

The 67.5-metre Icon boasts a number of amenities that allow her to be a resounding success in the charter market such as her raised main deck pool with two panels of glass that allow natural light to flood the beach club below. A bar, gym, massage room and sauna are also found at this level. Forward of the pool is also an al fresco dining area with a table (one of three spots on board) that sits laterally across the deck.

“I love the feel of this yacht with its dark grey hull and striking lines,” added Clarke. “Below we have a massive beach club with a fold-down swim platform door with access to a brand new FunAir beach club swimming pool. The beach club is accessed directly from the lower guest cabins, which will be great for rolling out of bed, walking down the hallway, and jumping into the water.”

Having completed an extensive refit in 2020, her interiors are bright and contemporary, with a seven-cabin layout for 12 guests overnight. Her owner’s suite has a dual-level arrangement with its own private terrace, while her VIP cabin is situated on the upper deck. Loon also carries two brand-new tenders including the X-Craft beach lander and the G23 Nautique, a top selection for wakeboarding.

Much like her sister in the Loon fleet, the 67.5-metre will have a large presence on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. The other 55-metre Loon vessel will continue to operate alongside the newly acquired 67.5-metre vessel for the Mediterranean season and are both now accepting bookings.

The new Loon recently checked in to La Ciotat for maintenance and upgrades.

The Loon Flock: Two superyachts set to offer unforgettable charter experiences in the Mediterranean

By Steph Loseby   12 May 2023

With the acquisition of a new yacht bearing the same name, the owners of the renowned 55m (180ft) motor yacht LOON have expanded their fleet, creating a truly remarkable ensemble. Both yachts are set to make a splash in the Mediterranean this summer, providing guests with the ultimate getaway at sea.

The original LOON, a 55m (180ft) superyacht, has gained widespread acclaim as one of the most sought-after charter yachts in the Caribbean and the Bahamas . This season, she sets her course for the Mediterranean, and despite the summer season not yet commencing, only a few dates remain available for charter.

Led by the experienced Captain Paul Clarke, who has been at the helm for several years, motor yacht LOON will continue its legacy of providing impeccable service to her 12 guests. The captain has already assembled a multinational crew that will uphold the yacht's five-star reputation and is set to deliver a seamless and memorable yacht charter vacation.

Guests aboard the luxury superyacht will have the pleasure of indulging in an array of amenities, including two new tenders—one designed for beach landings and the other ideal for wake surfing.

Additionally, they will have access to the thrilling FunAir slide descending from the top deck, as well as a refreshing FunAir swimming pool located off the swim platform and beach club.

Captain Clarke enthuses, "This is going to be the main hangout area onboard. I can tell." He further highlights the convenience of the beach club's direct access from the lower guest cabins, allowing for effortless transitions from bed to water.

The second superyacht LOON

Joining the LOON flock is the newest addition, the 68m (221ft) superyacht, also christened M/Y LOON which was formerly known as M/Y ICON. Delivered by Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts in 2010, the yacht underwent an extensive refit in 2020 under its previous ownership where she was luxuriously fitted out and upgraded to offer the ultimate experience in comfort and amenities.

Boasting accommodation for 14 guests and a dedicated crew of 18, the yacht is now in turnkey condition for her upcoming charter season.

Onboard highlights include her spacious retractable beach club, a large infinity pool and an abundance of deck space where guests can kick back, relax and socialize in style.

The larger LOON has always been renowned for its exceptional watersports program, which will now be available on both vessels. Guests can look forward to thrilling activities such as kitesurfing, wakeboarding, e-foiling, and diving, facilitated by PADI-certified dive centers on both yachts.

With a playful nod to avian terminology, the crew and owners jest that the flock of Loons creates an "asylum" for those seeking an exquisitely remarkable charter experience.

Following their Mediterranean charter season, there are possibilities of the larger LOON venturing to the Caribbean and Bahamas later in the year but for now, it is safe to say the LOON flock is set for an unforgettable summer filled with joy, adventure and excitement.

Thinking of booking a private yacht charter in the Mediterranean?

Wanting to explore some of the most sought-after destinations in the Mediterranean? From the glittering azure coastline of the Turkish Riviera to the sun-drenched archipelagos of Greece’s Aegean and Ionian seas, the glistening hotspots of the Mediterranean are as renowned for their rich archaeological history as they are for their glamorous yacht scene and vibrant nightlife.

This is the award-winning Here Comes the Sun , the biggest yacht ever built by the Dutch yard Amels , and widely acknowledged as the pride and joy of New Zealand billionaire and passionate superyacht collector Graeme Hart.

The 292-foot Amels superyacht 'Here Comes the Sun' recently had a refit that stretched the hull by 20 feet, creating a new persona.

The yacht hit the headlines when it was delivered in 2017 and showcased at that year’s Miami International Boat Show. With its head-turning exterior design by Britain’s Tim Heywood and luxurious interior by fellow Brit Andrew Winch, it was the undisputed star of the show.

The original owner was reportedly Russian drilling industry tycoon Alexander Dzhaparidze, known for naming his superyachts after Beatles tunes. Before Here Comes the Sun , he owned the Amels-built Imagine before moving on to another Heywood/Winch-designed Amels, the 197-foot Come Together.

After being snapped up by the new owner in late 2019, Here Comes the Sun went back to the Damen Yachting/Amels sheds in Vlissingen in southwest Holland for what would turn out to be a near-total makeover.

The 292-foot Amels superyacht 'Here Comes the Sun' recently had a refit that stretched the hull by 20 feet, creating a new persona.

Dutch naval architects Azure Yacht Design were called in to mastermind slicing open the hull and adding the 20-foot extension. They also stretched the sundeck to create that second helipad—there’s also a touch-and-go pad on the foredeck—big enough to land a Bell 429 or Airbus H145.

The refit also saw the swimming pool on the main deck—once again the key word here— stretched to 23 feet, while two new bridge-deck VIP suites were added, each with 39-foot-long private balconies.

Saving one of the biggest jobs until last, the entire yacht was sanded, re-faired and re-painted, switching out the original, rather milquetoast, beige-yellow hull color to a classy navy blue with stark white topsides.

“It was a huge scope of work. To pull it off in just over a year was a real credit to Amels,” said Colin Boyle, the vessel’s captain since 2019, who helped project-manage the refit during the 16-month stay in the yard.

Damen Yachting sales manager Michael Coens added: “Many of the same craftsmen and women who were meticulously involved in the original build, worked on her during the refit, remolding and reshaping her into the new masterpiece she is.”

The refit was rewarded with the “Best Rebuilt Yacht” trophy at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards.

Accommodations-wise, within the 292-foot length, sprawling 47-foot beam, and 2,955 gross tonnage, the yacht can accommodate 20 guests in 10 cabins, tended to by a crew of 27.

Without doubt, one of the standout features is the truly massive, full-deck owner’s suite. It comes with a master bedroom boasting forward views through 180-degree wraparound glass, a private lounge with a balcony, office, his-and-hers bathrooms and spacious dressing room.

For relaxation, the owner can kick back in a huge private salon with comfy sofas, dining area, bar, and pool table. Towards the stern, there’s the full-beam owner’s sun deck with sofas, lounges and a dining table for ten. Steps away is a tiered movie theater.

Naturally, there’s no shortage of water toys. The main tender is a sleek, custom-built 34-foot limo built by Germany’s Yachtwerft Meyer and painted in matching navy and white. There’s also a 30-foot RIB and 23-foot Super Air Nautique wakesurf boat. Plus, a small armada of Sea-Doos and seabobs.

The vessel is listed jointly with brokers Fraser and Burgess.

Serial entrepreneur Kenny Dichter , known for expanding access to the private aviation market by launching and building private jet flight providers Marquis Jet Partners and Wheels Up Experience into leading brands, this morning unveiled his newest venture, a "global sports lifestyle experience club."

Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Dichter described it as producing “the best events at the best events.”

Dichter said, "Over the last two decades, we have learned how to provide extraordinary, unforgettable experiences and meaningful memories for individuals, families, and corporations. For smaller and midsize companies, it will enable them to compete with big companies when it comes to hospitality. For the HNWs, it will provide an easy button for insider access.

“With REAL SLX, you don’t have to be a professional sports team owner to have the team owner experience,” Dichter said in an interview following his CNBC appearance.

Dichter says his newest "white space" has a potential audience 20 times larger than private jets. He cites a cross-section of nearly 70 million "avid sports fans" per SSRS and the over 22 million U.S. millionaires per the UBS Wealth Report.

That includes a series of pop-up restaurants via a partnership with Rao's, where to get a table at its original New York location, you need an invite from a regular customer.

With both his business aviation ventures, Dichter was successful in attracting new consumers by figuring out different ways to access an expensive product, making it easier to buy and bringing down the price of entry.

At Marquis Jet, he sold jet cards in 25-hour increments on the NetJets fleet. Previously, to access its aircraft, the Warren Buffett-owned aviation company required customers to commit to at least 50 hours of flying annually. Customers also had to fund the fractional share of a jet and agree to five-year contracts, meaning the starting point was 250 hours of private flights.

The cost and commitment limited access to mostly to large corporations and UHNWs. With a broader audience and Dichter’s marketing acumen, Marquis Jet generated $240 million in revenues by just its third full year. According to Corporate Jet Investor, the top line grew to over $700 million by 2007.

With Wheels Up, Dichter pushed access to an even wider swath of consumers, creating a membership program using Textron Aviation’s King Air 350s , which he referred to as flying SUVs. He popularized the turboprops as an alternative to short-hop connecting flights via congested airline hubs and long car trips.

While the industry typically focused on the business travel sector, Dichter sold private aviation as a lifestyle choice that enabled customers to get home in time for their kid's soccer game or get in a few more runs down the slopes at their ski house.

Over his 23-year tenure leading the two private aviation companies, Dichter says he has signed up over 40,000 clients.

Dichter confirmed it was his new venture political pollster Frank Luntz referenced on CNN earlier this week. Luntz told the host and other panelists, "We talk about a budget deficit around this table. I think there is a fun deficit… There's a company in the process of being founded that's going to offer real people a real opportunity to get behind the scenes, to jump the ropes, to get in the front row of the things that matter most to them and is being led by somebody I'm calling the Willy Wonka of 2024, and he's got a whole bunch of golden tickets to give to anyone tired of politics and just wants to have fun."

When Dichter launched Wheels Up, he said he wanted 10,000 members and a billion dollars in annual sales within 10 years, targets he exceeded. He stepped down from his 2013 start-up where he Chairman and CEO in May 2023. He then exited its board after helping secure a $500 million investment led by Delta Air Lines. That came after the private aviation company ran into turbulence following its 2021 IPO via a SPAC merger.

Marquis Jet, a 2001 launch, was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway-owned NetJets, the world’s largest private jet flight provider, in 2010. Other Dichter ventures include Alphabet City Sports Records, which was sold to SFX Entertainment, and Tequila Avion, which was acquired by Pernod Ricard.

He says the full details of what REAL SLX offers will be unveiled soon, including membership structure, costs and how it works. "Today's announcement is to plant the flag," he said.

Last year during a speech at the Wings Club in New York City, Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian told the audience , “Kenny has done a masterful job over the last decade building a high-quality brand, great experience, a lot of new members.”

For REAL SLX, short for sports and lifestyle experiences, if Luntz, the pollster is correct, Dichter looks to have his finger on the market's pulse again.
