Harry Kane has continued his remarkable form with another Bayern Munich hat-trick but a bizarre 'rule' in German football means it technically doesn't count as such.

Kane , 31, has scored an incredible 49 goals in as many games for Bayern since joining them from Tottenham in 2023.

The striker, who recently scored twice on his 100 th appearance for England , continued his excellent form on Saturday with three goals in a 6-1 win for Bayern over Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga .

It was the fifth time that Kane has scored three goals in a game for the German giants.

But he is still waiting to record his first official hat-trick for the club, due to a technicality in how they are viewed in Germany.

As reported by The Athletic , hat-tricks are subject to extra-strict standards in German football.

According to the Bundesliga's official dictionary , all three goals must be scored in the same half to count as a hat-trick.

It adds that the German hat-trick should "not be confused with the standard English definition of the term".

Kane scored twice in the first half against Holstein Kiel before adding a third from the penalty spot in second-half injury time.

So, what do Germans call three goals that aren't a hat-trick?

They use the term 'Dreierpack', a three-pack, like a set of three beers that are sold in shops.

There are signs, however, that the Bundesliga could be softening its stance towards hat-tricks and the English definition of the term.

On the Bundesliga's official English website , they use hat-trick to describe Kane's performance at the weekend.

Kane himself will care little about how his goals are referred to, as long as they keep coming.

His penalty on Saturday took him to 40 goals in the Bundesliga, making him the joint-top English scorer in German top-flight history – along with former Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who is now on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United.

Kane will hope to continue his fine form when Bayern next face Dinamo Zagreb in the new-look Champions League on Tuesday night before they return to league action against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Another week of high school sports is behind us, and it's time to recognize outstanding performances from Cumberland County student-athletes with the 910Preps Athlete of the Week award.

Seven nominees fill this week's ballot, among them a school wins record-setter, a six-goal week with a hat trick, two huge plays in a streak-busting football win and much more.

Vote as often as you like until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Results will be announced Thursday. Vote in the poll below the list of nominations and highlights. Coaches and athletic directors can send nominees to [email protected].

Here are the 910Preps Athlete of the Week nominees for Sept. 9-15:

Taylor Baggett, Gray's Creek volleyball — The junior Western Carolina commit had 16 kills in a straight-set win over Jack Britt for a 5.3 kills-per-set average to go with two blocks and 11 digs. Baggett also posted 13 kills with a 59.1% success rate along with a block and five digs in a 3-0 win over South View for the Bears, who haven't lost a conference match yet.

Shea Bieniek, Cape Fear girls' tennis — Bieniek became the Colts' all-time wins leader last week with No. 119 in her already storied high school career. Bieniek didn't drop a set and won two matchups without dropping a single game in a 3-0 week for the undefeated Colts, who are seeking a third state title in Bieniek's fourth year.

Ece Buyukkaan, Berean Baptist volleyball — The junior had 14 kills, a block and eight digs in a win over O'Neal plus 14 kills, six aces and eight digs in a win over Freedom Christian as the 6-1 Bulldogs didn't drop a set in a 2-0 week.

Jaxon Davis, Cape Fear boys' soccer — The senior midfielder posted 13 points across two games last week. Davis had two goals in an 8-0 win over Seventy-First and two more goals to go with five assists in a 9-0 win at Douglas Byrd.

Tabitha Newlin, Cape Fear volleyball — A junior middle hitter, Newlin posted 22 kills and five blocks in a five-set win over Jack Britt; she added 17 more kills in a five-set win over Pinecrest the next day and then eight kills in a 3-0 win at South View as the Colts stayed unbeaten in United 8 play.

Cristiano Sharpe, Terry Sanford boys' soccer — The senior had six goals and two assists in a 2-0-1 week of conference matches for the Bulldogs that included a hat trick. Sharpe had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Pine Forest; he added three goals in a double-OT 4-4 draw against Harnett Central and he posted two more goals plus an assist in a 3-1 win vs. Overhills — all in the span of four days.

Emmorian Towns, Jack Britt football — The three-year-starting junior made a pair of game-changing plays in Jack Britt's 21-20 win over Scotland on Friday. Towns scored on a 58-yard touchdown run, snatched a fumble and returned it 45 yards to set up the winning touchdown. He finished with 81 rushing yards on five carries.

Harry Kane scored his first hat-trick of the season as Bayern Munich routed promoted Holstein Kiel 6-1 to climb back to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Kane’s first-half double, coupled with Jamal Musiala’s opener and a Nicolai Remberg own goal, had Bayern 4-0 up by half-time at the Holstein Stadion, and substitute Michael Olise’s first goal for his new club and a late Kane penalty simply cemented a perfect start to the campaign despite substitute Armin Gigovic’s late consolation strike.

Champions Bayer Leverkusen responded to the loss of their 35-game unbeaten league run against RB Leipzig last time out with a resounding 4-1 win at Hoffenheim.

Victor Boniface’s double coupled with Martin Terrier’s strike and a Florian Wirtz penalty claimed the spoils as Mergim Berisha replied at the Rhein-Neckar Arena.

Ermedin Demirovic scored twice as Stuttgart eased to a 3-1 win at Borussia Monchengladbach after Alassane Plea had cancelled out Deniz Undav’s opener for the visitors.

Junior Adamu scored twice inside three second-half minutes to fire Freiburg to a 2-1 victory over Bochum, who had taken the lead through Myron Boadu on the stroke of half-time.

Eintracht Frankfurt needed Omar Marmoush’s late penalty to win 2-1 at Wolfsburg after Ridle Baku had cancelled out his first-half opener, while RB Leipzig and Union Berlin finished goalless.

In LaLiga, Real Madrid needed second-half penalties from Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe to see off a stubborn Real Sociedad 2-0 at the Reale Seguros Stadium.

Vinicius struck from the spot with 58 minutes gone after Sergio Gomez has been penalised for handball, and Mbappe followed suit 15 minutes from time following Jon Aramburu’s foul on Vinicius.

Ayoze Perez fired Villarreal to a 2-1 victory at 10-man Real Mallorca, who had Toni Lato sent off, to extend their unbeaten start to the new campaign after Raul Albiol’s own goal had dragged the hosts back into it following Logan Costa’s strike.

Javi Puado’s hat-trick, which was completed from the penalty spot, saw Espanyol beat Alaves 3-2 in a thriller.

Tomas Conechny levelled after Puado had given the hosts the lead, but the frontman had assured himself of the match ball by the time Nahuel Tenaglia scored the visitors’ second.

Jesus Navas fired 10-man Sevilla to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Getafe in which substitute Juanlu Sanchez picked up a late red card.

Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham both scored from the penalty spot as AC Milan beat promoted Venezia 4-0 to claim their first Serie A win of the campaign.

Skipper Theo Hernandez, Youssouf Fofana, Pulisic and Abraham all scored inside the opening 29 minutes on a night when the visitors had Hans Nicolussi Caviglia sent off for two bookable offences.

Empoli continued their unbeaten start to the season with a creditable 0-0 home draw with Juventus, although the point with which Bologna emerged from their trip to Serie A new boys Como was earned in more eventful fashion.

Cesc Fabregas’ men looked to be heading for their first win since promotion when Nicolo Casale’s own goal and Patrick Cutrone’s effort gave them a 2-0 lead, but substitutes Santiago Castro and Samuel Iling Junior snatched a 2-2 draw.

Ousmane Dembele came to Paris St Germain’s rescue as the Ligue 1 champions fought back to beat Brest 3-1 and resume their place at the top of the table.

The visitors took a shock 26th-minute lead through Romain Del Castillo’s penalty but Dembele headed them level before the break and then struck again seconds after Fabian Ruiz had put them in front during a second-half blitz.

Goals from Thilo Kehrer, Vanderson and Denis Zakaria eased Monaco to a 3-0 win at Auxerre, while Neal Maupay and Luis Henrique were on target as unbeaten Marseille saw off Nice 2-0 despite having Derek Cornelius sent off for a second bookable offence with 16 minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott scored four times as AZ Alkmaar trounced Eredivisie rivals Heerenveen 9-1.

Parrott, who was an unused substitute in both of Ireland’s 2-0 Nations League defeats by England and Greece, scored his side’s second goal before the break and then added three more inside eight second-half minutes.

2017 — In front of the largest crowd to attend a stand-alone MLS match, Josef Martinez gets his second hat trick in a row and his third of the season to help Atlanta United hold on for a 3-3 draw against Orlando City. Atlanta United sets the record with 70,425 on hand at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

2018 — Scott Dixon has a steady drive to win his fifth IndyCar championship with ease. Dixon, needing an uneventful finale at Sonoma Raceway, finishes second behind winner Ryan Hunter-Reay. His fifth title moves him into second in IndyCar history, two behind A.J. Foyt.

2018 — Patrick Mahomes is 23 for 28 for 326 yards and six touchdown passes in Kansas City’s 42-37 win over Pittsburgh. His 10 touchdown passes through two weeks are the most by a quarterback through two games in NFL history.
