47th Annual Lighted Yacht Parade: Deck The Seas With Jolly Holly

Event Details

Every year, the Oakland/Alameda Estuary transforms into a magical holiday experience for hundreds of spectators along the waterfront. Join us for the 47th Annual Lighted Yacht Parade.

Saturday, December 2, 2023, just after sunset around 5:30 pm

Viewing areas

Wind River Park in Alameda, Jack London Square in Oakland, waterfront restaurants along the estuary

** Spectators can even participate in the parade by riding on the San Francisco Bay Ferry.

Parade organizers partner with the Oakland Firefighters Random Acts and the Alameda County Community Food Bank to gather donations of food, unwrapped toys, or money at designated drop sites. These donations go a long way toward providing food and toys to deserving kids and families during the holiday season.

The Lighted Yacht Parade is organized by the Encinal Yacht Club and the Oakland Yacht Club.

The parade committee is hard at work procuring donations and sponsors for the parade. Parade sponsors enable the committee to expand promotion, increase participation, award prizes, and generate more charitable donations.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Best Decorated in three categories; power boats, sail boats, and other vessels such as canoes or kayaks. A grand prize is also awarded for the Best Overall Decorated Boat. Judges will evaluate boats based on representation of this year’s theme, and the creative use of lights, decorations, costumes, and music. Interested participants can find parade information and a link to online registration at the parade website: www.lightedyachtparade.com .

Entrants must provide the $40.00 entry fee by 5 pm on November 29, 2023. Each boat that enters the parade receives a skipper’s gift.

A Skipper’s Meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 30 at 6:30 pm. at the Encinal Yacht Club, located at 1251 Pacific Marina in Alameda. The parade route will be reviewed and participant numbers will be assigned. All skippers are required to attend to participate in the parade.

For more information about the parade, its history, participant and spectator FAQs, and pictures of past winners visit www.lightedyachtparade.com

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year — Lighted Boat Parades Begin!

Thanksgiving is in 10 days’ time, and right after that comes Christmas. At least that’s how it feels. But before the fat, jolly guy in a red suit sails his way around the Bay, we get to enjoy the wonderful, once-a-year lighted boat parades. We’ve already had word from organizers about the Oakland Yacht Club and Encinal Yacht Clubs’ joint event, the 46th Annual Lighted Yacht Parade.

The parade is a charity event raising money for Oakland Firefighters Random Acts of Kindness and Alameda County Food Bank.

Last year the parade attracted a record number of boats, and the clubs were able to donate several thousand dollars to their nominated charities along with toys and canned goods that had been received from various locations.

The committee is excited about this year’s event and believes it will, again, be “big.”

Venetian Night lighted boat parade postponed due to weather advisories, organizer says

WLS logo

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The popular lighted boat parade known as Venetian Night has been postponed due to weather advisories, an organizer said.

The event was originally supposed to return to Chicago on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Monroe Harbor.

Dr. Marlon Everett, with the group Black Boaters of 31st Street, said due to the weather advisories following Saturday's rainy weather, the Italian American Human Relations Foundation decided to postpone the event to next Saturday. A Beach Hazards Statement was issued for central and northern Cook County as well as Lake County from Saturday afternoon until 10 p.m. Sunday.

Everett said his organization and the Italian American Human Relations Foundation were all excited for the event, but Mother Nature made the ultimate decision.

"It just continued to rain and sure enough it ended up being high winds - 16 to 17 mile an hour winds coming out the east, which usually brings high waves," said Everett said.

Big Trip, the event's headlong performer was expected to perform on board one of the boats in water parade.

"We got to play everything safe," said performer Brendan Tripodi, professionally known as "Big Trip."

The hip-hop artist and proud Italian-American said Chicago is his second home, and he will return to the city next week to perform.

"It's the Windy City for a reason, so we're going to postpone to next week, but more people are going to come, though, and we're going to have a good time," Tripodi said.

The event will now take place on Aug. 12 at 8:30 p.m. Boats will take off from the Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Harbor and sail their way to the Shedd Aquarium.

They hope the weather will be better next weekend and allow for more boaters and attendees to come the "iconic event."
