Savor the beauty and romance of the New Orleans skyline aboard the Dinner Jazz Cruise. Enjoy the Dukes of Dixieland jazz band and a narration provided by our captain while cruising the Mighty Mississippi River.

There are two seating times for dinner, so please make sure to check availability of both if one is not available. The 1st dinner seating is from 6-7:15pm and the 2nd is from 7:45-9pm. Groups must be booked as one reservation in order to be seated together for dinner.

The Steamboat NATCHEZ is taking some time off, but her sister vessel, the Riverboat CITY of NEW ORLEANS will be taking her place. You’ll get the same authentic riverboat experience of a leisurely, two-hour cruise on the mighty Mississippi, enjoying traditional live jazz, craft cocktails, and all the beautiful New Orleans sites, while also exploring the newly renovated riverboat. Make sure you check out all four decks - the top deck view is a sight to see! Upgrade your ticket to include the dinner buffet.

Description

Not just a boat, the Steamboat NATCHEZ is a time machine that fills its passengers with the romance and marvel of yesteryear! Cruise along the Mississippi River and let the Steamboat NATCHEZ whisk you away with its atmosphere and ambiance, with everything from a museum- quality Engine Room to the ship's orders being called over an old-time megaphone. This evening jazz cruise is a great way to experience New Orleans' beauty and culture.

As you steam ahead, soak in breathtaking views of the city skyline while enjoying a New Orleans cultural experience – a live jazz performance performed by the New Orleans band Dukes of Dixieland, a Grammy nominee.

Enjoy dining inside or outside on a delectable Louisiana-style buffet dinner including prime rib, chicken, pasta and salad. Two separate dining times give you the flexibility to enjoy the evening at your own pace.

A sample dinner menu can be found in the Itinerary section below.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Good food, nice staff, great music, beautiful view. I enjoyed this a lot! Great portions, and atmosphere

I'll start my review off by saying that I have a very special love for this boat, as my husband and I got married on her. However, I'll be very honest in my review. If you're looking for a very easy-to-work-with wedding venue, it's a good option. It's unique and has tons of NOLA heart. I was a bride that wanted to keep things VERY simple. I just wanted to show up in a pretty dress and have everything happen around me. And Natchez provided that! Our flowers, cake, photographer, & food were all part of the wedding package. There was a limited number of options which was perfect for me so I didn't get overwhelmed with decisions. I also had a day of coordinator that made sure things ran (mostly) smoothly. I've since been back on the Natchez several more times for both the dinner cruise and just the river tour with it of town friends. So here's my general thoughts overall: - The view. Let's admit it, the Mississippi (in this area) is not the most beautiful landscape. It's primarily industrial on the shores and the water is a murky brown. But there's still something special about riding along here - though I would recommend the evening sail so the lights are glittery as you come back into port. - I find the food enjoyable! Is it the best New Orleans has to offer? No. Of course not. It's pretty standard buffet quality. But I still like it! - The music is ALWAYS fantastic! I love dancing to the jazz band on the upper decks! Is the Natchez worth it? I think that she is. It's such a unique experience that you won't find anywhere else.

While the boat itself, an actual steam powered vessel where you are invited to view the steam engine in action, is very nice with plenty of seating, the "history" presented over the speakers is, um, whitewashed. Not one mention of what actually went on at the wharves beyond "commerce." Very disingenuous considering the memorials on those very wharves that recognized New Orleans as the US capitol of the slave industry up through the early 1800s. Even more so as we had visited the Whitney Plantation the prior day. The Kaliope music while waiting to board is horrifically loud (and annoying) so might want to bring some ear plugs.

While the Sunday buffet and Spring Fling options are worthwhile for the overall cost savings and experience they offer, the table service is abbreviated at best. You really have to retrieve your own cocktails from the bar since the dining area is chaotic. The buffet area is a bit of a cattle call. Great views of the Mississippi and the life Jazz performances are excellent. Read the terms of any dining or drink package that you purchase because the bar is TIGHT on pricing of any soft drinks or juices. Pretty poor customer service on that considering that I had to get my own drinks for the table. The picture package was $38, and would have more takers if it was around the $15 to $25 range.

natchez riverboat dinner cruise

On my recent trip to New Orleans, one of my friends booked the Natchez dinner cruise with live jazz for our small group of friends. The trip lasted around 4 hours. The Natchez Steamboat is an old traditional boat that is very beautiful to look at. My friends commented that it looked like something straight out of Tom Sawyer. While we were waiting to board, they played some sort of old pipe organ from the top deck of the ship. It drew attention from those all around. The boarding process was fast and we were given our ticket for our dining table. The dining room had a fun, retroI feel, and so did the bar. The dinner consisted of a cup of gumbo, a buffet featuring fried chicken, some kind of roast beef and a bunch of somewhat southern sides. Dessert was bread pudding. I will agree with my friend when she called the food "edible". The bread pudding was probably my favorite part. However, tickets for the cruise and food were only around $100 per person, so I did not have great expectations. After dinner, we moved to the outdoor deck of the boat and listened to the tour as we floated down the river. I enjoyed a delicious Sazerac from one of the several bars. I think the bar service was good and fast. Later on, we moved to the front of the boat to enjoy the band. It was more like swing music. It was upbeat and fun to dance to. We also enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the front of the boat. I very much enjoyed my experience, but could have done without the dinner. It appears that they have some non-dinner options. The Natchez Steamboat is a good New Orleans experience.

My husband bought tickets prior to flying into NOLA. Natchez is by the riverfront of NOLA and on the Mississippi River. It was our first time on the Mississippi River. This steamboat is powered by hydropower, no electric involved according to the narrator on the boat. Great tour by the narrator. This boat has three decks and each has a bar. Do sit by the left side of the boat to sightsee according the greeter.

natchez riverboat dinner cruise

I really don't have much to say about this boat tour. We literally fell asleep on the ride back. It's $50 per person without dinner. The tour takes you 30 mins up the edge of the mississippi. There is nothing exciting to see except for the mill where Domino's sugar is made. Everything is industrial with tug boats pushing metal up and down the corridor. The narration was monotone and the banjo band was reminiscent of the beverly hillbillies. There was a bar on board, if you are a drinker. In my opinion, the value is just not there.

natchez riverboat dinner cruise

We embarked on Steamboat Natchez for the Tulane welcoming week. The food was okay (buffet style), but I remember the bread pudding being lush. The views are historic, it's the Mississippi! Yes there's some decay and industry, but more importantly, there's history. Appreciate where you are in that moment in time, and enjoy the ride! I would do it again, but sans the dinner.

Steamboat Natchez

If you've done any dining cruise dinners before, the Steamboat Natchez is on par with most of them. Service was friendly and being in New Orleans, the self serve buffet is food based on the region and this review is more about the food. I'm told the food can vary depending on the cooks working that day but the gumbo was the best (not self serve) and then the seafood pasta followed by the potatoes. Since we did a dinner cruise, it is dark and windy outside the dining room but still nice to get outside and see the Mississippi River at night. They offer live music on one end of the dining area and we were on the other end so harder to hear the music. But, if you have a large group, the Natchaz is a good venue for large groups.

The Big Easy is known across the world as an around-the-clock party hub accentuated by a cool blend of music and wild celebrations (did someone say Mardi Gras?). Despite a reputation for adult-focused activities, there is more than enough for the entire family to see and do in this international melting pot. One of the city’s most famous and popular attractions, perfect for guests of all ages, is the Steamboat Natchez Cruise – a unique way to see the shimmering NOLA lights and soak in the smooth city sounds from the water.

By the time you’ve got through this guide, you’ll have discovered everything there is to know about this iconic cruise, with answers to all of the most common questions just a scroll away.

Steamboat Natchez cruises

Before we dive into the prices, we need to understand the different types of Steamboat Natchez cruises on offer. Aboard New Orleans’ only authentic Steamboat, each cruise option promises beautiful views of the city, the lower Mississippi River, and one of the world’s busiest harbors.

No matter which option you choose, as you admire the 100-year-old steam engine you’ll also be provided with a deep insight into NOLA’s vibrant culture and history thanks to a live narration from one of the Steamboat staff.

Let’s take a look at the individual highlights of each option:

Harbor Jazz Cruise

The Harbor Jazz Cruise is all about entertainment! As you marvel at the vistas from the boat’s decks, typical New Orleans jazz music rings in the background. But this isn’t a prerecorded CD or the captain’s favorite Spotify playlist – this jazz is live, authentic, and immersing. Either a jazz pianist or the jazz trio – Duke Heitger and the Steamboat Stompers – will be present on board, helping to create a wonderful, romantic, and intoxicating atmosphere.

There’s also a calliope concert every day at 10:45 am and 1:45 pm. In case you were about to Google it, a calliope is a large, steam-whistle organ which, in this case, sits on the steamboat’s roof.

Dinner Jazz Cruise

With the option of either indoor or outdoor seating, the Dinner Jazz Cruise takes all of the best qualities from the Harbor Jazz Cruise and takes it up a notch with a freshly-cooked, tableside dinner service.

Rather than a jazz pianist or trio, the top-tapping entertainment this time is New Orleans swing music performed by the Grammy-nominated artist, Dukes of Dixieland .

Menu items are subject to change by season and availability, however, some of the common meals ready to tantalize your tastebuds include Paddlewheel Primavera, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Bayou Seafood Pasta, Baked Chicken, southern-style Green Beans Almondine, and a finger-lickin’ Bananas Foster for dessert. For the full menu, see Steamboat’s website .

Sunday Jazz Cruise with Optional Brunch

Nothing helps turn a new page after a night out on Bourbon Street like bottomless coffee and a hunger-satisfying brunch – a staple in New Orleans life. In addition to the historical facts shared by the staff, the live traditional jazz, and the Instagram-worthy views from the decks, Sunday cruisers have the option to dig into a hefty brunch. Choose from Shrimp and Grits, Crescent City Eggs, Biscuits and Gravy, Mini Croissants and Biscuits, and a whole lot more. The full brunch menu is available on the Steamboat website.

steamboat Natchez cruise tickets price

How do you find cheap Steamboat Natchez cruises online?

book Steamboat Natchez cruises online

If you don’t know where to look, buying Steamboat Natchez tickets can be confusing, not to mention expensive. New Orleans welcomes nearly 20 million tourists per year, so the competition between tour agencies and sightseeing companies is feisty. Sometimes, two competing travel agents can offer exactly the same activity at drastically different prices, each claiming to have a “best price guarantee”.

How can we compare the Steamboat Natchez website, local businesses, and online ticket sellers like Viator all in one place? Easy: TourScanner! Head to the TourScanner search engine to compare all the different deals on offer. Depending on which dates you’re planning to visit NOLA, you may find discounted tickets in excess of 30%!

There are also deals that include transportation, packages that combine city tours (you’re already there, so you might as well tick off a few of the main attractions, right?), VIP experiences, and more.

  • Compare cruise tickets

Even though the array of world-class attractions in New Orleans is second to none, Steamboat Natchez is a regular bestseller. Technically , bookings can be made at the last minute at the ticket office or on the company website, however, we wouldn’t recommend it, especially in the busier tourist seasons (Mardi Gras and summertime).

The Steamboat is a city highlight that shouldn’t be left to chance, so it’s recommended to book your experience as early as possible. As soon as you’ve locked in your travel dates, the next step should be to compare the cheapest deals available on TourScanner.

best time steamboat Natchez cruise

It’s all a matter of personal preference. A summertime Evening Jazz Cruise with Dinner will allow you to experience New Orleans as it transitions from day to dusk to twinkling night sky, while a day-based cruise gives you the opportunity to soak in ample amounts of sunshine from one of the many viewing decks.

There are both indoor and outdoor areas, so rain, hail or shine, you’re in for a great time.

steamboat Natchez cruises departure meeting point

All trips on Steamboat Natchez start and end at the Steamboat Natchez Lighthouse Ticket Office, which is found where Toulouse Street meets the Mississippi River in the vibrant French Quarter. The docking station is steps away from the Toulouse streetcar station and a short stroll from the historic Jackson Square, a haven for upcoming artists and street performers. Jackson Square is one of the many popular stops on the city’s walking tours .

It’s highly recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure times (shown below). The boat is officially open for half an hour before roaring away along its river route. By arriving 30 minutes early, you’ll be able to find the best viewing spots on the boat, explore its historic features, and grab a souvenir from the gift store before the crowds potentially become too overwhelming.

Whatever you do, don’t be late, because the boat will leave whether you’re there or not!

Departure times:

Harbor Cruises (Monday to Saturday)

The Harbor Jazz Cruises departs every day except Sunday. There are two timeslots to choose from. The first Harbor Cruise departure is at 11:30am (boarding at 11am) and the second is at 2:30pm (Boarding at 2pm)

The first Sunday departure is at 11:30am (boarding at 11am) and the second is at 2:30pm (Boarding at 2pm)

Evening Cruises

The nightly dinner cruise departure is at 7pm (boarding at 6pm). Depending on your dinner seating reservation time, you may be required to arrive as early at 5:45pm.

Mississippi river in New Orleans

All Natchez cruises traverse the crescent-shaped lower Mississippi River as the staff point out noteworthy and historical landmarks along the way. There’s arguably no more impressive way to see the city. But it’s not just about what you can see off the boat – the vessel itself is a work of art! Onboard, you’ll have the chance to see a working paddle-wheel and engine room up close, feel like you’ve been thrust back in time with decor reminiscing of the early 1900s, and grab a couple of trinkets at the gift shop.

steamboat Natchez cruise duration

Each of the Natchez cruises lasts for two hours. This excludes special events cruises such as those hosted on Mother’s Day, Christmas Eve, or the Fourth of July.

The boat is suitable for handicapped patrons, however, some areas on the boat, such as the upper deck, are only accessible by stairs.

The company suggests to call their reservation phone line on (504) 569-1401 or send a message on their contact portal before booking if you have any specific questions or concerns regarding accessibility.

According to the New Orleans Steamboat Company’s official website, you may only bring your four-legged friends if they are are a Service Animal as defined by the ADA.

There is no dress code! You’re on vacation, so sit back, relax, and be as casual as you like (within reason, of course). The company does suggest to dress up a little fancier for the Dinner Jazz Cruise, not because of rules or regulations, but simply to fit in with the elegant decor and service provided.

As long as the boat is functional, the cruise will depart! In the event of rain, there is plenty of indoor seating to accommodate the guests.

Cruises are canceled only on the rare occasion that the Coast Guard determines that the river is too dangerous (i.e. during a hurricane).

steamboat Natchez cruise travel tips

  • In the summertime, which is also one of the busiest tourist seasons, New Orleans is hot, humid, and sticky – it is built mostly on swampland, after all. So to avoid feeling like a sun-dried tomato, make sure to always bring a hat, sunscreen, cool clothing, and a water bottle.
  • Make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure time.
  • Ask for a photo in front of the Nachez before boarding.
  • Compare tickets deals online and save money, there are a lot of providers selling Steamboat Natchez cruises online.
