The folks at Marina Village Yacht Harbor hosted our 28 ft sailboat for a guest docking while we went to the Waterfront Cafe for a lunch during our Cal Sailing Club cruise this last Monday. I'd heartily recommend anyone who's interested in docking or visiting here. It was a clean marina with well maintained docks and slips, no derelict vessels, and nice clean bathrooms on shore. The marina felt safe and secure, the management and staff were friendly and accommodating, and folks on the dock were pleasant yet non-intrusive. All together, the cruise to Marina Village was a great success with a nice easy docking in the harbor, beautiful central location, and really enjoyable and reasonably priced lunch at the Waterfront Cafe too. I wish I had a picture to show you... I'll have to return for another visit!
This rating is for the parking lot at Gate 11. The people on the office are great and doing the best they can with the situation. 6 cars stolen in last 28 months. Catalytic converter theft. Zero protection and access restriction. People living in their cars are allowed to overnight in the lot. Between the police, on-site security (total joke) and paid monitoring service (also a joke) nothing ever changes. There have been boats stolen, boats broken into, homeless encampments under the shipway launch ramp. Something needs to change other than the rent which keeps going up.
Watch these guys steal my car. Our Monitoring service didn't detect anything out of the ordinary.

Greg, Thank you for your comments about our team and for taking the time to talk to us yesterday. We also want to thank you for your many years as a boater and live-aboard at Marina Village Yacht Harbor. We are very sorry that your car was stolen. It is understandably very unsettling. Sadly, issues related to encampments and personal property crimes have become more prevalent, starting during Covid, not just in Alameda but throughout the state and the country. Though it has been particularly challenging because we don’t own or operate the parking area at Gate 11, we will continue to take steps to improve security in that area. We installed multiple cameras a year ago and recently increased the monitoring protocols, resulting in a notable decline in incidents. We will be providing air tags to all of our live-aboards and the management association will be installing ‘flock’ cameras. We are also seeking approval to put in a secured, fenced parking area for Gate 11 live-aboards. We are optimistic that these measures will continue to reduce the number of incidents. Though it won’t undo what happened, we would like to offer you a free month on your slip and live-aboard fees. Our team will be reaching out to you shortly with details. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do. Marina Village Yacht Harbor
I am am the new kid on the block and ended up here by accident, the boat I bought happened to be here and needed to stay while I waited for a water pump. I had plans to go to another Marina where I have a friend. I think I am staying here, I love it. Lucky for me I didn't read the reviews first. The staff here is beyond friendly. There is no Harbor Master officially but Sandra is amazing, very organized, professional, she even helped me off hours on a holiday from home when I couldn't figure out how to get shore power to work. Sabrina at the front desk is friendly, organized, sweet, and is very responsive to emails. The bathrooms and showers are nice, clean, updated. The cement docks are solid, well maintained. There is wear and tear here and there because it is a marina, it is well traveled, it doesn't feel neglected or ugly. The gates are heavy steel and you need an electronic key to enter. Even at low tide I don't know how anyone would be able to get in or wouldn't be noticed. There are cameras at the gates. The slips are clean, the people are kind. There are always boat keepers diving, cleaning interiors, exteriors. They are always quiet, sweet, professional. I have been there a month, no one has broken in or entered my car and I have left it unlocked a few times when it was empty, saves me a broken window if someone is determined. Garbage is at the gate, it is taken out daily to bigger bins. This is very helpful. There are heavy duty carts that are great and almost always available for loading up and loading out. To the person who complained about houseless people, this just is, it is not just in this area. It is hard to look at because it tells a story, harder when you are passing people who are struggling as you make your way to the yacht harbor. Drop off extra sleeping bags, bottled water, jackets, a tent you no longer use, give someone a meal or a couple bucks. A few times we have seen a few people who are mentally ill pushing a cart along the walkway. It is pretty, there are ducks in the pond, it is a public trail, everyone is welcome and should be. No one has ever asked for money or has been harmful towards us. The trail is nice, lots of people who work in this area do lunch times walks or morning runs. The only thing negative I could say is that it is a little pricey. You get what you pay for. The estuary is lovely, the people are nice. Not a lot of live aboards mostly weekend sailors. Most of the boats here are beautiful. I haven't seen many derelict boats. When you apply they do want to see a recent survey, and insurance, I think that helps. Don't tell anyone, this is a secret gem.
The Bay Area's jewel called the Alameda is nestled on a small island just outside of Oakland. As you leave Oakland and travel through an underground tunnel in just a matter of minutes, you are brought out to near paradise. It's almost as if the sun shines differently here. If you are one who desires to journey through the waters and need a place to dock your adventure, you will want to stop by Marina Village Yacht Harbor. The vast array of docks is immense and the ease of access to the Bay is even better. You'll never have to worry about your boat when you're away as the staff is going to make sure all is taken care of with it. Under the watchful eyes of Mariana Village Yacht Harbor, your investment will be well protected. Speaking of the staff, let's talk about just how amazing they are! I'm not sure if they even go home as I have had interactions with them well long before the doors officially close for the business day. They work hard to keep things in ship-shape even when the waters are choppy outside. Candice and Sandra are so sweet and helpful. No matter when I call or who answers the phone, I'm always greeted by a friendly voice ready to help me. I never feel like I'm just another call or pressure to get me off the phone. So, a little piece of paradise has a little bliss for you and your boat utopia in the name of Marina Village Yacht Harbor. Stop by and give them a toot.
This was once a decent marina, but it has degraded tremendously under its new ownership. We've used the marina many years and have seen it sadly decline under the new owner. PROBLEM #1: SECURITY ISSUES There are homeless encampments across the street and by a nearby overpass. The Posey Tube that connects this area to Oakland is 200 yards away. There is a huge homeless encampment on the Oakland side of the under-estuary tube with a walkway connecting it to the marina. The homeless encampments basically use the marina to shop for supplies. They break into cars & get on the docks. Last week, a radar dome sat in a shopping cart on the sidewalk. There have been 2 fires at the homeless encampments in the past month. PROBLEM #2: CONSTANT CAR BREAK-INS Cars are broken into about every other day. There are no cameras. Its not safe at night. Do not leave a car here while you sail! And definitely do not leave a car overnight. All breakins aside, two trucks and one car were entirely stolen just in the past 2 months. PRO-TIP: The Marina office will reimburse you for break-ins on the glass for your car! They do this because its cheaper than installing cameras or having a security person watch over. PROBLEM #3: CONSTANT BOAT BREAK-INS There is a boat break-in ~2x per month here. Thieves walk onto the docks at low tide when docks sit low on the rocks. Many "water-based attacks" by thieves with dinghies that are likely just come across the estuary. PROBLEM #4: DOCKS DEGRADING Watch your step on any of the wood borders around the docks. Some of it crumbles if you step on it. Many of the fingers are leaning so bad they are dangerous. Dock boxes with older breakers trip frequently. PROBLEM #5: NO HARBORMASTER There is no harbormaster at this marina anymore. When ownership recently changed, the harbormaster position was eliminated. The condition of the marina has suffered. The marina office staff usually respond to calls, but the responses are typically unhelpful. They typically deflect and pass the buck. They are also not knowledgeable about boating. They manage the marina remotely from the office. There is one maintenance person, who is overloaded. He is the only staff person who actually physically goes on the dock. For a marina with 738 berths, that's sad. There are numerous boats at the marina that have been abandoned. PRO-TIP: The marina sells the abundance of abandoned boats at recurring auctions. You can get a boat pretty cheap! PROBLEM #6: WIFI IS TERRIBLE The Wifi system is provided by the marina for "free", but its basically unusable. It is terrible in 3 respects... bandwidth, coverage & support. Its mainly unusable because there is a hard limit of 2.7MBps. That's a little more (but not much more) than dial-up from back in the day. Movie or video streaming is absolutely impossible. You have to register your devices (no more than 3) with the marina to allow them Wifi access. There are numerous incredibly large dead zones in the marina for the coverage. Our typical bandwidth is in the 100-200Kbps (note the "K", not an "M"). That's so slow, its completely unusable even to send/receive email. The coverage is spotty. Boats in various areas of the marina receive a Wifi signal strength of about 15-17%. A strength of 70%+ is needed to make the system usable. The marina states they do not support the system if you complain. PROBLEM #7: BOAT FIRES Another the other main issue is boat fires. Some believe they are caused by homeless people breaking in. There have been several boat fires here. One notable one that made the news caused a diesel slick that wrapped around every boat & extended all the way to Jack London Square. The marina staff didn't email us for 4 days about how they were responding. This lack of communication is common. The burnt-out boat sat there for 8 weeks. PROBLEM #8: POWER & WATER OUTAGES The electrical on the docks is very old. We were once out of power for a week. After much begging & pleading the marina finally rented a temporary generator. Water outages are frequent and extended. Each dock has a single water main valve. So everyone's water has to go off for a day when a hose bib is leaking. It's a mystery why the water needs to stay off for a full day. They don't share outage times. The water just goes off for a full day or two. PROBLEM #9: DISGUSTING BATHROOMS The bathrooms and showers here are disgusting. One of the toilets has been out-of-order for about 6 months. The showers are worse than anything you would find in a jail. I noticed other posters said the bathrooms were nice and clean. This is clearly no longer the case. SUMMARY Don't be deceived by the Alameda address, this marina is devolving into a crime hotspot. Before you rent a slip at this marina, think carefully about whether its worth the hassle to be here. The current standing record is 11 cars broken into in one night. Other nights have come close I pray the record is not broken.

To John S. As the marina owner for the last 15 years, I can assure you we take our customers' comments and feedback seriously. We encourage our berthers to bring any and all issues to our attention as we strive for complete satisfaction. With an average of 4.5 stars on Yelp, I'm puzzled by your inaccurate and misleading portrayal of the marina so many people rave about. Our marina is clean, safe, well-equipped and well managed (we are a certified Clean Marina), in one of the most beautiful settings on the Bay. It represents a community of boating enthusiasts who all have a choice between many other marinas in the Bay Area. Regrettably, we have no record of you as a customer, so I can only speculate as to your actual experience with our marina and your motives. My office is always open to constructive dialog and I welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns. Steve Meckfessel 510-521-0905
Just vacated the harbor after 5 years of tenancy. The place is always clean and inviting. The manger Sandra is especially nice to all tenants. I never have an issue that was not taking care of immediately, I left because I have moved out of state. I think this is the best marina on the island.

Hi Kevin, Thank you for the wonderful review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and will miss you. Wishing you all the best in 2022.
Just sold my boat and ended my slip lease. This was the second time I've had a boat at MVYH. It's not cheap, but is clearly the best managed marina I've ever seen. Always a pleasure.
Marina Village Yacht Harbor is the jewel of the Alameda Riviera! We have been berthers and live-aboards for 12 years and have never considered another marina. The marina is maintained at a very high level of quality, cleanliness and safety and any problems are dealt with swiftly and efficiently. We have made lifelong friends and truly enjoy this lifestyle immensely. We highly recommend MVYH for racers, cruisers and boaters of all types.

Hi Heidi, Thank you very much for your review. We are happy to hear you enjoy staying with us and made lifelong friends. We have the best boating community. See you on the dock. Thanks
Love this marina! For the last 15 years I've been in several Bay marinas....and I keep coming back to Marina Village. Sandra and the staff are super friendly, the bathrooms are clean and well-maintained, carts, ice machine. All the things a boater wants, and doesn't realize how great they are to have, until you try another marina. So glad to be back!

Hi Rick, Thank for your review! We are so happy to have you back as well.
I've toured a few marinas, but Marina Village by far and away stood out. Not only did they have exceptional customer service, but all the other boat owners are kind and welcoming. I'll also add that in a pinch, Sandra has your back, er stern? Definitely recommend Marina Village, even if it's just for a visit.

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In
FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.
Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.
Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.
Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila
Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.
Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales
The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.
Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas
Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.
Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro
Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.
Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan
Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.
Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo
Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.
Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu
The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO
Holiday Oceanview Marina, Samal Island, Davao del Norte
The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length. The well-guarded and weather-safe marina is a gateway to some of Mindanao’s finest attractions, such as the Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls, and Giant Clam Sanctuary.
There’s no better way to discover the Philippines from end to end than getting onboard a seaworthy vessel and going on a long cruise, with stops in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Find a safe harbor in any of these major clubs and marinas, and participate in the renaissance of sailing in the Philippines.
