Our race events combine high-speed, free-to-watch sport and family entertainment, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators and millions of television viewers around the world, also playing a valuable role as an effective destination marketing tool. By creating high caliber events, we generate a significant level of inward economic investment at host venues, together with the commercial platform created for sponsors, partners and the wider marine industry.

Media and broadcast relationships play a key role in enhancing our international presence, delivering exposure for venues and commercial partners, and building the foundations for a commercially viable, credible and global marine motorsport platform.

P1 Offshore

This increasingly important brand within the P1 family encompasses the APBA offshore national championship series, with P1 having been granted by the APBA exclusive worldwide rights to film and distribute its offshore events for the next five years. At all race events, P1 will produce a one-hour television highlights show, featuring Class 1 racing and other APBA classes.

P1 Jetcross

Attracting a younger demographic, P1 Jetcross is considered by many to be the equivalent of motocross on water, with custom designed race hulls and highly tuned engines to power themselves around close-to-shore technical courses.

P1 Superstock

When competitors are racing with the same boat, same engine, and same performance the only difference between winning and losing is the crew. P1 SuperStock lets the pilots battle it out on the water through every turn and every wave jump. It’s an acid test of a team’s ability to command the boat in challenging conditions.

Class One racing is the highest class of powerboat racing in the world where boats can reach speeds in excess of 160mph, attracting teams from the United States, Dubai and Australia. Powerboat P1 promotes the APBA Offshore Championship, a six-venue, multiclass race series.

P1 AquaX is the fastest growing watercraft race series in the world. It prides itself on attracting the best riders and the fastest off-the-shelf watercraft with speeds in excess of 80mph. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, accessible yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

In September 2010, P1 launched a registered charity which has as its principal objective the promotion of the conservation, protection and improvement of the marine and coastal environment. The Foundation focuses on conservation by supporting research, raising awareness of serious threats to the oceans and creating selected partnerships.

6-venue World Championship in the United States will build towards an international series in 2024.

Fleet of 8 class 1 boats expected to compete in this season’s championship., new event in the city of sheboygan on lake michigan with season finale in miami..

Powerboat P1 has today announced the UIM Class 1 World Championship race calendar for the 2023 season, which sees the series heading to Wisconsin for the first time and returning to favourite locations in Florida and Indiana. A fleet of eight Class 1 boats is expected to compete in the six-venue championship from May through to September.

powerboat p1 world championship

In October 2020, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) assigned to Powerboat P1 the international rights to Class 1 racing in an exclusive ten-year agreement that includes organisational and promotion rights to the world championship. However, with the pandemic seriously impacting the 2021 season by preventing overseas teams from traveling to the United States, it wasn’t until this year that P1 was able to action its plans to attract more race teams and grow the series through social media and building the worldwide television audience.

Racing will kick off at Cocoa Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast in late May, before moving to the Gulf Coast at the end of June when the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix will celebrate its 38 th  anniversary. In August the series will head north to Indiana for the Michigan City Great Lakes Grand Prix, and a new event in the Wisconsin city of Sheboygan on the western shore of Lake Michigan will host the Mercury Racing MidWest Challenge.

Featuring the top categories of U.S. powerboat racing including Class 1, the three-day festival is expected to attract more than thirty teams to race along the Sheboygan waterfront. In early September the Class 1 fleet will be back on the Gulf Coast in St. Petersburg, and P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala is in advanced discussions to stage a season finale in Miami. “We raced in this iconic city in 2018 and returning this year with the Class 1 boats would create an outstanding climax to the 2023 championship,” said Rangoonwala.

powerboat p1 world championship

“As we look ahead to the 2023 season, I can confirm that both the M CON Racing Team and Sudrheim Offshore Racing will be joining the series to give us an international field of eight boats with teams representing Australia, Sweden, Norway and, of course, the United States,” said P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala. “The M CON team will compete in a fully branded Monster Energy boat. This new canopied Skater 438 catamaran is the first purpose-built Class 1 boat for more than a decade. With Sudrheim Racing flying the flag for Norway next year, we can look forward to another Scandinavian team battling for the world title.”

powerboat p1 world championship

This season’s championship will build towards an international race calendar in 2024 with host venues in Scandinavia and the Middle East being added to the schedule. In five years’ time, the key goal in P1’s development plan is to have twelve Class 1 teams racing at ten international venues. “Our live streaming this season will be significantly enhanced by the introduction of a new timing system which will show boat positions, distances between boats, speeds and lap times as live graphics,” explained Rangoonwala.

“We’re on an exciting journey and our mantra is to take UIM Class 1 back to the pinnacle of offshore racing,”

added Rangoonwala.

Powerboat P1 Releases Broadcast Plans For UIM Class 1 World Championship Series

For offshore racing fans, the long wait—sixth months—between the 2021 Race World Offshore -produced world championships in Key West, Fla., and the first race of the 2022 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series is almost finished. The season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., is just five days away.

But the Thunder On Cocoa Beach event also kicks off the eight-race Union Internationale Motonautique World Championship Series, which will finish in early November with the APBA/UIM Offshore World Championship.

According to a press release from Powerboat P1 / P1 Offshore this morning, all eight Class 1 races in the six-venue championship will be broadcast on television nationally on Bally Sports through its family of regional sports networks. In Cocoa Beach, Sarasota and St. Petersburg, Fla., where Powerboat P1 is the race promoter, CBS Sports Network will screen the Class 1 and APBA offshore national championship racing, together with live streaming on the P1 Offshore Facebook page and Powerboat P1 YouTube page.

Television coverage begins next month with highlights of the action from Thunder On Cocoa Beach and will include a Class 1 season-review show airing in December. Livestream coverage of the Cocoa Beach contest will be carried on the P1 Offshore Facebook page , and is scheduled to begin Sunday at 10 a.m.

The potential reach of the Class 1 worldwide broadcast deals this season, according to the release, is more than 230 million homes with coverage on leading sports channels including the UK and Western Europe, Australia, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, South Africa, Egypt, Thailand, Malaysia, the Middle East and South America.

“Powerboat P1 is committed to the long-term development of offshore powerboat racing and quality broadcast television coverage is an essential building block for any successful motorsport,” said Azam Rangoonwala, the chief executive officer of Powerboat P1, in the release. “The power of the internet along with technology means there are a number of platforms available to sports fans via various media methods. Yet, good old-fashioned television is still king, for now anyway.”

What most DON’T know about P1 racing

powerboat p1 world championship

P1 is a relatively new concept that is growing fast in the nautical world. Boats rush at high speeds across the water and compete against other boats to win world championships and grands prix. Even if it is gaining new fans worldwide, it is still a niche sport.

For starters, the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship (known as F1) is a motorboat racing competition for powerboats. It is organized by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and often referred to as F1H2O. It shares the title of F1 similar to Formula one car racing. This is because each race lasts 45 minutes following a circuit in a stretch of water.

The history of Formula 1 Powerboat

The P1 world began in 2003 when it was first staged in Italy. Since, it has seen more than 200 events in almost 20 countries. In 2010, the Powerboat P1 industry decided to refocus its business aim.

They wanted to build the sport from the bottom up instead of the other way around. This meant more amateur riders could join races and progress into more challenging competitions.

This was a huge success P1 AquaX was launched in the UK in 2011  and in the USA the following year. Since, the world of P1 racing has expanded and in 2017 it staged its first SuperStock World Championship event in India.

We recommend:  Are you interested in watching the latest action in the P1 world? Find out when we are broadcasting next  in your country!

What is the difference between P1 Superstock and P1 AquaX?

Both are sports that combine  high performance, adrenaline and speed  and have international championships. However, the main difference is the vessel.  P1 AquaX is an endurance jet-ski championship where competitors use a sit-down craft. They use a jet ski and classes are split into three categories: 200hp, 250hp and 300hp.

On the other side, P1 Superstock  races on identical production boats: the stunning  P1 Panther . There are two classes that compete in five Grand Prix of the Sea events every season. These races are close to shore, meaning the public can watch the racers from shore.

Due to the necessity of the powerboats to reach high speeds, neither are offshore powerboat racing competitions. There are clearly defined courses near the coast.  Both are part of the Powerboat P1  and are quickly growing attracting more experienced racers in a new style of racing.

How fast do Powerboat P1 competitors go?

They can go very fast. In the P1 Superstock category, boats reach 250km/h or 135 nautical miles. They are powered by a Mercury Marine V6 that generates over 400 horsepower at 10,500 rpm. This engine is very powerful, and it can propel boats to 100km/h (62 mph) in less than 2 seconds.

On the other hand, competitors in the P1AquaX category reach a maximum speed of 111km/h (70 mph).

P1 boats: how are they?

P1 AquaX are jet skis. However, the P1 Superstock category uses tunnel hull catamarans that go at high speeds and are exceptionally easy to maneuver. The motor boats weigh around 390 kg (860 pounds) and are 6 meters (20 fts) long. The tunnel hull creates aerodynamic due to a wing that is formed by the deck under the surface of the hull.

F1 boats have not changed that much in appearance since the event started, but safety has improved dramatically. At first, racers would compete in an open-cockpit plywood boat. Now, there is a hard composite cockpit capsule that breaks away from the rest of the boat in the case of a crash. Also, harnesses now offer protection to drivers of the sport. This prevents them from harm in the case of major crashes.

In the late 1990s, the boat builder DAC introduced an airbag in the cockpit. This goes behind the driver, and it prevents the cockpit from submerging if the boat flips. All these changes in safety encompass the evolution of lighter and stronger composite hills that minimise the hazards of power boat racing.

This Celtics championship is for ... well, a few people come to mind

When a Boston team wins a championship, too often fans and media cannot resist racing to ponder what is next, and whatever is even further away than that.

We’ve done it after the region’s first 12 major sports championships this century, and we’re already doing it after the 13th — 13th! — even though the thing was just secured Monday night with the Celtics’ 106-88 victory.

Who stays, who goes? … Do you think they can they go back-to-back? … Who’s getting a new contract, when, and for how much? … Say, could this turn into the NBA’s next dynasty?

Wait. Just wait, and enjoy where we are, right now. Those questions will be discussed in due time. The answers aren’t coming immediately anyway.

This is not time to accelerate away from the championship vibes, joy, and afterglow, right through Friday’s parade , and straight into the to-do list for the offseason .

This is time to linger. This is time to bask , people.

Does sappiness seep in? Sentimentality? Obviously, if you truly care. The Celtics just won a championship that many among us weren’t sure we would see.

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum needed to mature as players, and Joe Mazzulla as a coach. Before this season, the Celtics had made five trips to the conference finals and one to the Finals in Brown’s career. But one speed bump here, and a roadblock there, sent them crashing off course.

Monday night brought the culmination and the catharsis. No matter what happens over the remainder of their exceptional careers, Brown and Tatum will forever be known as champions.

If you care about the Celtics, truly care, that’s beyond meaningful, and it gets you right in your sports fan’s soul.

Permit that feeling to linger.

powerboat p1 world championship

Here’s one way I’ve done so. In the hours after the Celtics collected their 18th banner and changed the conversation around their current stars, I’ve been thinking a little about the 2004 Red Sox.

Not “don’t let us win tonight” or “Red Sox fans have longed to hear it” or any of their legendary plot twists and ghosts exorcised along the way.

I’ve been thinking about how Red Sox fans anticipated their catharsis, with a thread on the Sons of Sam Horn website titled “Win It For …”

The concept was simple. Fans took to the thread to share who was in their hearts and on their minds as the Red Sox closed in on their first World Series title in 86 years.

Some mentioned Red Sox players past and present. Most mentioned relatives or close friends, some of whom hadn’t lived to see the Red Sox win a World Series.

From time to time as the Celtics got closer to clinching this title, a smattering of “Win It For …” posts would show up on social media. The sentiment endures.

And yet I’ve found it takes a little different shape after the victory is clinched. “Win It For …” morphs into gratitude for those who won it.

I’ve been thinking about the people for whom I am especially happy. Many — most, really — are with or on the periphery of the Celtics. A certain segment of fans mentioned here may sound like you. I hope it is you.

I’m happy it was won for …

Joe Mazzulla : So I got dry-roasted Monday night by the ruthless, hilarious Freezing Cold Takes Twitter account for writing last March, when the Celtics fell behind, 3-0, to the Heat, that he should be fired if the Celtics got swept .

I ate that heaping helping of crow with a mea culpa column months ago — right around when he started calling timeouts at necessary times — but the chilly take is worth digging up again, because it looks so impatient and short-sighted now.

Mazzulla did a fantastic job coaching the Celtics in the playoffs, and he’s going to have a championship ring to confirm it. He just got better and more comfortable as the season went on.

I should have known that someone Brad Stevens had such faith in was worth waiting for.

Al Horford : Of course, Al Horford. After 17 seasons and 186 playoff games — that’s 2¼ seasons! — he’s finally an NBA champion .

On a roster full of proud fathers, Horford is the de facto team dad, the veteran who is deeply respected and good-naturedly teased.

He is the quintessential Celtic in all the most admirable ways.

powerboat p1 world championship

Jrue Holiday and Derrick White : How many selfless, malleable, sharpshooting, intelligent, defensively ferocious guards who care only about winning are there in the league?

If you want to tell me there are two and the Celtics have both, I’ll believe you.

Mike Gorman : The easygoing television voice of the Celtics for more than four decades goes out with a championship.

And don’t tell me you haven’t thought of how much Tommy Heinsohn would have adored this team.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown : They’ve long been exceptional individually, they solved how to thrive within a team concept, and now they are forever linked as champions.

This is the deserved payoff for their hard work and resilience, and now that that anvil is off their backs, the league is officially on notice.

And you know what? More than anything, this is for those who believed in them.

Seven years ago this month, Jayson Tatum (left), who had been just drafted by the Celtics, and then-second-year pro Jaylen Brown went over a play during a drill at their practice facility in Waltham.

It’s for those who didn’t want to trade Tatum for Anthony Davis, or Brown for Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, or every other high-end veteran forward up to and including Adrian Dantley.

It’s for those who were patient and resolute, who suffered and endured the growing pains and achingly frustrating losses, but who believed that with the right cast around them, Tatum and Brown could become … exactly what they have become.

This is for those who don’t confuse sports-radio takes with their own thoughts, those who find extra satisfaction in watching young players — your homegrown players — blossom into champions, those who never once used the phrase “blow it up.”

This is for those who did not waver. Is this for you? I hope it is.

The Celtics are champions again, and yet also for the first time in a long time. Their journey to this moment could not have been more fulfilling.

Stay in it, why don’t you, as long as you can.
