"I think we met the owner's wish for privacy," designer of 72 metre Tankoa superyacht Solo Francesco Paszkowski said. The owner's deck includes a helipad that doubles as a party deck and a huge apartment that includes two wardrobes, an office and a bathroom. From the bed, the owner can enjoy unrivalled panoramic views over a private spa pool and on to the sea.

Delivered in 2016 by Feadship , 66 metre Vanish's expansive owner's deck was the product of a serial yacht owner whose experiences had taught him that privacy and outdoor spaces are key to life on board. Located on the bridge deck, the full-beam suite offers direct access to the main saloon via an impressive superyacht staircase and bridge access via a secret door concealed within the suite's sitting room, which is separated from the bedroom via a sliding wall.

Featuring design inside and out by Harrison Eidsgaard , as well as a vast owner's terrace aft, another key highlight of the owner's deck is a private balcony on the port side that simply slides out of the bulwarks at the touch of a button meaning the owners can activate it at their whim without the need for crew assistance.

An aft-facing master suite with 270 degree views lets the owner enjoy an ideal nature spotting lookout on the 45 metre McMullen & Wing yacht Big Fish . Sliding glass doors mean easy access to the private deck.

One level down, guests can enjoy similarly impressive views through floor-to-ceiling windows in the main saloon and the dining area with its large glass doors leading to the side and aft decks.

Yachts for charter

In addition to the master suite with its own office, sitting room, private outdoor area and spa pool, the owner of this 61 metre Hakvoort yacht has a well-stocked cocktail bar. Transformed part-way through the build process after the original buyer pulled out, Just J’s was reconfigured to suit its new American owner’s desire to create the ultimate superyacht owner’s deck.

Double-height video monitors lining the walkway between the saloon and dining area of the owner’s deck are just one of the star features of the award-winning, 83.5 metre Feadship superyacht Savannah . The area also has a huge master suite with an enormous skylight, a separate dressing room and a spa-like bathroom, leading out to a large outdoor lounge, an office, a private saloon and dining area and a service pantry.

Talk about a room with a view. You can look out to sea or up to the magnificent chandelier from the massive king-size bed on the 85 metre Lürssen superyacht Solandge . The owner’s deck also boasts a private outdoor seating area, office, a casual sitting room with its own fireplace, and his and hers walk-in wardrobes.

Types of Decks on a Yacht (Chart)

• Bow (Main) Deck:  This is usually the largest deck area and it’s situated at the front of the boat. Some yachts have built-in seating while others don’t.
• Flybridge (Upper) Deck:  This is the outdoor captain’s area to operate the boat but includes seating and/or dinette area (depending on size). Some flybridge decks are covered or can be covered.
• Promenade Deck:  These are the narrow side decks that lead you from front to back and vice versa.
• Stern (Lower) Deck: This is the deck at the rear of the boat. Some yachts have multiple stern (lower) rear decks if it’s multiple levels. You can access the cabin from this deck.

Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven and The A group developed a 115 metre explorer concept. The extraordinary APEX has a range of 9000 miles, carries two 20 metre tenders and a helicopter in its own hangar.

APEX is a 115-metre long and 18.50-metre wide full custom yacht with a volume of around 8000 gross tons. The robust exterior of the explorer was developed by The A Group from Monaco, the naval architecture comes from Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven, where APEX will also be built. The concept behind this extraordinary yacht is called "without limits". No area is too remote or too rough for APEX not to reach. 

André Stegmann, Senior Project Manager at Lloyd Werft, comments: “APEX meets the demand of today's customers for stable, spacious and at the same time extremely robust yachts par excellence: the bow, which is almost four decks high, can cope with the heaviest weather and is also ice-going.” Up to 22 guests and 48 crew members travel on board and could cruise up to 9000 nautical miles non-stop at 16 knots. 

The exterior of APEX explains Matt Pegrum, Yachting Director at The A group, as follows: “It is characterized by large open spaces, especially at the stern. Standout features are two extra  large  and 20 metre long tenders parked to the side of the superstructure and launched via cranes and the infinity pool that forms the transition from the helipad to the party deck.” Even the side walls of the 12-metre pool are glazed and extend over the height of nearly an entire deck. Contrary to the rather open stern view, APEX gets a massive bow giving the explorer a powerful identity as well as a "ship-like" character and ensuring APEX safely reaches her destination even in very rough conditions on open sea. The yacht's exterior look is also defined by large window areas consisting of the largest panes ever used on a yacht. 

Behind the glazing, APEX's superstructures provide 2400 square metres of luxurious living space for owners and guests. The interior design will  be completely customized to the owner’s requests. 

The A group developed an extremely progressive and unparalleled general arrangement for APEX that already amazes in the aft section. Beneath the fully certified helipad APEX shows a dedicated hangar for the helicopter to safely carry it even in adverse conditions. Also aft and at waterline level you will find the spa area including gym and massage room; a multifunctional room a bit further in front can be used as an infirmary. Guests sleep on the main or upper deck, with two of the four VIP suites each sharing a private saloon. The owner uses his own deck with dressing rooms, bathrooms, an office and a lounge, from which he has direct access to the party area and the infinity pool at the stern. Very remarkable are the two salons of APEX. On the upper deck, it has a spacious dining table for up to 26 guests. On the main deck, there is a cinema/conference room to port and an entertainment area to starboard with various game tables, including one for pool or snooker.

Boom Supersonic yesterday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Overture Superfactory , announcing its completion. The Denver-based aerospace firm broke ground about 17 months ago.

To the assembled crowd, the Boom chief executive presented his $200 million supersonic Overture jet as an alternative to Boeing and Airbus, the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers. “It’s never been more obvious that the world is not well served by the duopoly that we have in commercial aviation manufacturing,” Scholl told the crowd, according to the News Observer. “Our customers, like United, have been very vocal that they are looking for an alternative to brand A and brand B.”

Boom has made Overture sales with non-refundable deposits to United, American Airlines, and Japan Air Lines.

Yesterday’s event was attended by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and Phil Berger, North Carolina Senate president pro tempore. Boom’s arrival to North Carolina came with an agreement by the state and Guilford County to offer more than $121 million in incentives if it hires at least at least 1,750 people and invests $500 million in the Greensboro site. The Tar Heel State also allocated $56.75 million to construct two aircraft hangars at the site. Under the agreement, Boom must reach an initial hiring threshold in 2026.

The North Carolina governor cited statistics that a full Boom Manufacturing program will grow the state’s economy by at least $32.3 billion over 20 years, with the creation of more than 2,400 jobs.

Despite yesterday’s fanfare, it’s not clear where and when all this growth will come from.

But many aviation experts remain skeptical. Brian Foley, an analyst who did market research on supersonic jets when he was employed at Dassault Falcon, believes the potential market won’t be large enough to sustain one supersonic aircraft manufacturer, or multiples, such as Spike and Exosonic , that have also announced their intentions to build an aircraft. He forecasts a market of about 300 jets for private owners, or about 30 planes a year for 10 years: “Is that even enough for an engine manufacturer to participate?” Foley recently told Robb Report.

Apparently not. When the then commercial supersonic leader, Aerion, abruptly shut down in 2021, it was after spending 20 years and billions on developing the AS2 supersonic business jet. The company had also broken ground for a new campus on Florida’s Space Coast several months earlier but then closed, citing a lack of interest by potential investors for the future of supersonic. When it shut down, so did three years of development with GE Aerospace on an Affinity supersonic engine for the aircraft.

GE, along with major engine builders Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell Aerospace, and Safran, passed on developing an engine for Boom, according to AIN . Boom then formed an alliance that included Florida Turbine Technologies, GE Additive, and StandardAero to invent a propulsion solution, an engine called the Symphony.

“Designing an engine is no easy task, especially from scratch, and it’s potentially a multibillion-dollar exercise beyond designing the plane,” Foley told Robb Report a year ago.

The XB-1 could make a supersonic test flight within a year, and the company has received G1 certification from the FAA. “It’s a long list of boxes we have to check, as it should be,” Scholl recently told Robb Report about gaining certification for its supersonic jets. “But we’re locked in on the needs and all we have to do is meet them.”

Scholl says supersonic development matches other fields of technology. “Tech advances in S-curves. Products go through periods of slow development, then rapid improvement, then level off again to incremental gains,” he says, likening the Overture to the original iPhone. “In those early days, it made huge leaps every year. That’s where we are with supersonic.”

In one of the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean , Captain Sandy Yawn got upset and told stewardess Elena Dubaich that she should never wake up the chef if the guests require late-night snacks. Only that's not fair or true. As seen throughout the tenure of all the Below Deck franchises, many crew members on the reality series have awakened the sleeping chef when the guests' food request could not be fulfilled by them. And most of the time, the chef understands. Not Chef Jono Shillingford . Captain Sandy is out there for herself and lacks awareness of her hypocrisy. She may be the central figure in publicity images for the show, but she will be the sole reason she sinks this ship. But hey, she's the perfect Bravo persona!

Back for its ninth season, Below Deck Med follows the trials and tribulations of some of the world's most majestic superyachts. For Season 9, fan-favorite Below Deck Med and Below Deck Down Under star Aesha Scott has returned to where it all began, serving as the Chief Stew under Captain Sandy this time around. This season, the high-class clientele will board motoryacht Mustique in the beautiful locale of Greece. Captain Sandy is back for her eighth season. And like her previous charter seasons, it's her rules. Which are, and have never been, consistent.

To Wake or Not To Wake, That Is the Question on 'Below Deck Mediterranean'

So your charter guests are a bunch of young 20-something British friends on holiday on a superyacht. Their charter had already been effected when the provisioners did not send the endless bottles of wine and Rosé that were ordered. The charter guests are not thrilled, but they're going with the flow thanks to the leadership of your chief stew. It's late night and the kids want to party and have unshockingly gotten the munchies . They're demanding nachos and grilled cheese, among other things. Messy, greasy snacks to soak up the booze. But you're the only stewardess up at this hour. They're already demanding endless beverages and now, they want you to make them food. They're already complaining about the slow service behind your back. Plus, you're not a professional chef who can whip up something special for this five-star demanding group. So, what do you do? You call in the reinforcements and ask the chef to assist.

'Below Deck Mediterranean's First Charter Had an Obvious MVP

The charter guests started to whine when they didn’t get their wine!

And now the chef throws a hissy fit and refuses to oblige, even though the preference sheet from the eager Brits requested late night snacks for their experience. Who's at fault? Is it the stew or the chef? According to Captain Sandy, you never wake up the chef. Which contradicts her previous rules from a few seasons back.

During Below Deck Med Season 5, following the unjust firing of Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier and Chef Kiko Lorran , the yacht was saved by Bosun Malia White 's boyfriend at the time, Chef Tom Checketts . Chef Tom didn't come on board in the best frame of mind and was easily irritated. During one of the charters, Chef Tom was awoken from a nap to slice cucumbers. Yes, slice cucumbers. But who was the person to wake him up? None other than Captain Sandy. Even with Chef Tom throwing a temper tantrum about losing precious nap time, Captain Sandy was adamant that the chef was hired to cook. So what happened between those four seasons? Did the rules change or does Captain Sandy simply have a fascination with asserting her authority? As a female in a male-dominated industry, Captain Sandy often overextends herself to ensure everyone knows who runs the ship. It's an obsession with dominance that has gone overboard.

Captain Sandy Is an Endless Contradiction

As asserted many times throughout her time on Below Deck Med , guest experience is the number one goal on Captain Sandy's ships. Her micromanaging techniques have found her undermining her crew in situations that other captains throughout Below Deck never do. She was seen criticizing Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier's lack of table decor prowess following her seeing prolific tablescapes at a boat show. She has gotten on the case of every Bosun with her obsession to get every single water toy in the ocean. Especially that gigantic water slide. But fans are quite aware that her obsession with water toys came after seeing a bigger boat with their toys out. Captain Sandy is all about making sure she's the center of attention. She wants to be liked. She even makes sure the offspring of famous singers post photos with her on social media so she can claim them as her friend every time they return for a charter. So her desire to ensure the guest experience is first rate makes sense. So this incident with Ellie and Chef Jono was perplexing.

The situation was alarming because, at its core, guest experience is number one, yet Captain Sandy was willing to forgo that just to have a scene where she got mad and asserted her authority. Captain Sandy is a menace and a hypocrite. Her bias toward the exterior is unmatched and has proven she's willing to throw the interior under the bus. Captain Sandy had her mind made up and rather than trying to learn the truth, she took Chef Jono at his word and admonished and embarrassed Ellie in front of the entire crew at the tip meeting. Even Aesha was not so sure that Captain Sandy was entirely right, but having worked with her in the past, she knows trying to push back would only cause trouble for her later. Thanks to Aesha's leadership, she came up with a plan that Chef Jono should prepare paninis in case of an emergency in the future. But she also told him to read the preference sheet because the late night snacks were in fact his responsibility. Perhaps Captain Sandy's desire to side with Chef Jono also stems from him having more stripes than Ellie and wanting to assert her authority on someone significantly below her. Whatever the reason is, Captain Sandy has continued to double down on her move and excuses. It's getting tiring.

It's Time for Captain Sandy To Abandon Ship

All good things must come to an end. And it might be time for Captain Sandy to move onto greener pastures. As will be seen later this season, Captain Sandy is set to propose to her partner Leah Shafer. She has since gotten married , so maybe the happy couple deserves an extended honeymoon together. Captain Sandy's long tenure on the program has come with a mixed reception. Some fans enjoy her desire to be seen on camera more than any other captain ever does. Others have had it with her and believe she's the source of a lot of unnecessary drama. With the late-night snack debacle being the latest in a long run of controversial decisions, there has been one major Below Deck alum who has questioned Captain Sandy's decisions.

Of course, with this discourse, the Daddy of the Sea disagreed with Captain Sandy's statement of never waking up the chef. It's become common that Captain Sandy and Captain Lee Rosbach will never agree on management choices. Nor will she ever reach his status as the best captain in the Below Deck Cinematic Universe. So when Captain Lee came out with his statement, many fans rejoiced that the authority of the sea has spoken on the right way to handle things. He shared on social media, "If the guests want it and the stews can't handle it, of course you wake up the chef." Of course, someone's sensitivity had caused Captain Lee to have to clarify his statement that was not intended to slam Captain Sandy. He was just stating the truth without context, which makes the chef-waking up rule even stronger against Captain Sandy. Fans of Below Deck Season 10 remember when Captain Sandy rescued the charter season by temporarily replacing Captain Lee on the St. David when he was physically unable to. Like Captain Sandy does, she was trigger-happy about firing Captain Lee's crew without consultation. Yet another power move.

With two major Below Deck captains on both sides of the argument, maybe it's time for Captain Kerry Titheradge , Captain Glenn Shephard , and Captain Jason Chambers to weigh in on things! At the end of the day, it is Captain Sandy's ship to run it as she wants. But when the cameras are rolling and superfans can recall when she's defied her own rules, she deserves to be called out. Her actions have caused damage and will now bring a lingering aftermath and tension between two of her crew members. If Captain Sandy wanted to right her wrong, she would step in and admit defeat. But her pride will always get the best of her.

Captain Sandy is Currently the Longest-tenured Captain In the 'Below Deck' Cinematic Universe

And yet she might be the most device. Her presence as a LGBTQ+ woman in the highest position in the industry is inspiring. Her visibility to encourage others like her is important. But her management skill and interpersonal relationship tactics seem to shift on a dime, season after season. Her disdain for certain individuals she deems below her becomes evident in how she treats them. When she sees another female deckhand aspiring to be a ship captain, she takes them under her wing. And then thinks they immediately become buddies. How can she assert her authority as the top boss on the yacht if she’s not treating every individual with the utmost respect?

Yes, in any industry, every person in a management position can have a different management style. And yes, you can change your ways as you learn and grow. But that’s not Captain Sandy, as Us Weekly reports on her time on the show.. She will flip-fop her beliefs, views, and opinions to suit a situation . Try binge-watching all the seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean . Season after season, she comes in spewing contradictory facts and beliefs without ever admitting she might have been wrong. Nothing will ever come close to how she treated Hannah Ferrier and her panic attacks. She helped her in one season. Belittled and fired her the next. And then came back onto the screen when others were dealing with anxiety making people believe she is the biggest advocate for mental health. Hey Captain Sandy, I think Hannah deserves a public apology, not a continual double down on your stance!

Captain Sandy Yawn shouldn’t fire anyone from the Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 cast. After Below Deck Med season 8 let down the audience, the show ushered in a revamped crew. Captain Sandy, Aesha Scott, and Elena Dubaich were the only familiar faces to return for the updated cast, with the latter serving as a temporary replacement for a stew in seasons past. With many new personalities joining the franchise, the Below Deck Med season 9 cast is already proving to be entertaining.

Aesha has excelled as Chief Stew, navigating the pressure of working on the Mustique swimmingly. She gets along well with everyone but, notably, has formed an early friendship with new deckhand Gael Cameron . It was smart of the network to tap Aesha to serve as the Chief Stew on Below Deck Med season 9. She may belong on Below Deck Down Under , but there’s no doubt she’s made the spin-off show better only a few episodes in. There are many episodes in the remainder of Below Deck Med season 9, but Captain Sandy shouldn’t let anyone go.

The Below Deck Med Cast Gets Along Well

Aesha is the glue of the season 9 cast.

The majority of the new cast of Below Deck Med gets along great. Season 8 was tainted by Natalya Scudder and Tumi Mhlongo’s intense feud that lasted throughout the charter season. The network took a big risk of inviting back only two well-known Below Deck yachties. Captain Sandy and Aesha are big names in the franchise , but they can’t make the entire season entertaining. Nonetheless, bringing in new energy with the Below Deck Med season 9 cast has brought a fun vibe to the show. The new cast members are eager to impress Captain Sandy and Aesha.

Even though the first charter was rough, the crew managed to finish strongly. The Mustique was left with little to no provisions, which prohibited their quality of service. Chef Johnathan “Jono” Shillingford prepared dishes with minimal food options, and the guests were thoroughly impressed with his work. The deck team went to great lengths to impress Captain Sandy by acquiring bottles of rose from a neighboring superyacht . The crew wasn’t perfect on their first charter, but that was expected. They work through hiccups as they come up and will get even better as they take on more charters.

There's Already A Boatmance Brewing

Gael & cameron haven’t stopped flirting since they met.

The most intriguing part of Below Deck Med season 9 is the potential boatmance between deckhands Gael and Nathan Gallager . After the deck team held their first meeting, they had instant chemistry. Nathan and Joe Bradley were taken aback by her beauty, as was the rest of the crew. However, Gael revealed she had a long-distance boyfriend who works in the yachting industry. She admitted their relationship was new and found it difficult to sustain. One of the issues in their partnership was a lack of trust, which is common in relationships with two yachties working on different boats.

Gael and Nathan began flirting on day one. During a moment in the freezer, he asked his fellow deckhand for a strawberry, which became one of their inside jokes. After the crew’s first night out, they continued to get close and texted about sneaking off to hang out where there were no cameras. They referenced the infamous strawberries and joked about giving the fruit to one another. It’s unclear where Gael and Nathan’s potential boatmance will lead and if she breaks things off with her boyfriend during the season

Bri Is Having Issues But She Can Get Better

With aesha’s support, bri will improve.

Aesha’s third stew, Bri Muller, is struggling the most out of her stews. After being tasked with laundry duties, she revealed she grew up with maids who handled the chores for her. Bri takes a long time ironing and steaming, but she can improve her time management as the season continues. Instead of tearing her new stew down, Aesha encouraged Bri and supported her. She told her it’s normal to run into problems during the first day of a new charter, and she was confident she’d continue improving.

“We will get better each day. You will be amazing today. Thank you for your hard work, I really appreciate it.”

It’s normal for stews to run into issues during the first charter. Bri hasn’t worked on the Mustique, and she’s learning the ins and outs of the superyacht. Thankfully, she has Aesha in her corner to uplift her. Working on superyachts is incredibly stressful, and the cast of Below Deck Med season 9 has an added layer of pressure as they’re also filming a reality TV show . As long as Bri makes improvements during the second charter, she’ll do well.

Chef Jono & Elena Are Feuding But Their Drama Is Fun To Watch

Aside from a budding boatmance, Chef Jono and Elena have been feuding. They ran into conflict during the first charter when the guests requested snacks late at night. The stew was uncertain if she could prepare mac and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches, so she tried to ask him for help. Chef Jono had been off to bed for a relatively long time when Elena knocked on his cabin door, and he told her he wasn’t getting up. By the next day, Captain Sandy learned that someone had tried to wake the chef , which upset her.

She told the crew she has a strict “don’t wake the chef” rule. However, on the preference sheet, the guests asked for late-night snacks, which Chef Jono did not adhere to. This didn’t faze Captain Sandy, and she told the chef to prepare paninis and place them in the fridge for the next charter. Elena was frustrated by the situation and felt like she was getting in trouble for no reason. While they got off on the wrong foot, Chef Jono and Elena’s feud is minimal, and they should be able to work through it.

The Below Deck Med season 9 has made the series one to watch after only a few episodes. The new class of Below Deck yachties is full of fun, interesting, and entertaining crew members. While it’s still early days into the charter season, Captain Sandy shouldn’t fire anyone from the Below Deck Med season 9 cast.
