NOTE to U.S. Customs & Border Protection

NOTE TO U.S. CUSTOMS & BORDER PROTECTION

Due to the international and fluid nature of the yachting business and the fact there is no global central industry listing service to which all charter yachts subscribe it is impossible to ascertain a truly up-to-date view of the market. We are a news and information service and not always informed when yachts leave the charter market, or when they are recently sold and renamed it is not clear if they are still for charter. Whilst we use our best endeavors to maintain accurate information, the existence of a listing on this website should in no way supersede official documentation supplied by representatives of a yacht.

superyacht polar star

(ex Northern Star)

Shaped with the idea of extended voyages in both northern and southern hemispheres, Polar Star requires fewer stops in ports than comparable vessels. With her ICE class, she can operate in much colder climates than the usual, popular cruising areas and explore the vast reaches of even the poles. Espen Øino International designed the 63-meter yacht along traditional lines, with engineering to exacting technical standards when delivered in 2005. Her original interior design by Pauline Nunns reflected a rustic, country-house style with the ambience of a traditional motor yacht ambience. Large open areas for entertainment and relaxation feature hand-painted murals and antiques. She underwent an extensive interior refit in 2017 to create a more modern, oceanic environment.

Quick Enquiry

"I once had a client who told me, “I will put your name on the side of my boat if it’s good, but if the boat is not good, your name will appear three times as big.” We were brought up with the sense that it is a very personal obligation for the family when we sign a contract to deliver a yacht that the client expects. I cannot go to a client and say “One of my guys made a mistake.” He would say “Is he Mr. Lürssen, or are you Mr. Lürssen?” But a successful delivery is also a great reward. I take the relationships of my clients very personally." - Peter Lürssen of Lürssen Yachts (courtesy SuperYachtTimes)

A MOSCOW COP AT SEA Date: July 16, 1989, Sunday, Late Edition - Final Section 7; Page 1, Column 1; Book Review Desk Byline: By ROBERT STUART NATHAN; Robert Stuart Nathan is the author of the novel ''The White Tiger.'' Lead: LEAD: POLAR STAR By Martin Cruz Smith . 386 pp. New York: Random House. $19.95. Text: POLAR STAR By Martin Cruz Smith. 386 pp. New York: Random House. $19.95. For Martin Cruz Smith, bringing back Arkady Renko, the Moscow chief investigator millions loved in the astonishing tour de force ''Gorky Park,'' must have seemed daunting. How much more could Arkady tell us about daily life in Russia, how much gloomier could he become with the daily insanity of a land-mined system, and what, other than survival, could merit the attention of his patient, deductive mind? Eight years after we left Arkady on a glittering field of American snow - in the interim his creator published the dreamlike, deceptively simple novel, ''Stallion Gate'' - he returns, weary but not broken, and as compelling a human being as ever, in the stunning ''Polar Star.'' When last we saw him, he believed, convincingly, that because he was Russian to his core he had no choice but to return to the motherland. Imprisoned on his arrival in a psychiatric hospital, he has since escaped to Siberia, dodging the police by sneaking from one job to another - sawing ice on construction sites, dragging reindeer in a slaughterhouse and, finally, gutting cod, pollack and sculpin as a seaman on the fish-processing ''slime line'' of the factory ship Polar Star. From Siberia to Alaska, from the Bering Strait to the Aleutians, the Russian ship accepts the loads of fish dumped into its holds by American trawlers - a joint venture, the fruit of glasnost and perestroika. While the reader is led to expect a spy story crossed with a political fable, ''Polar Star'' is essentially neither. For although obeisances are paid to the postimperial sleepwalk of both the Soviet Union and the United States, Arkady Renko has more intimate concerns: crime, passion, how men learn to live with each other, the balance in every life that leaves people stranded between dark comedy and tragedy. Nor is ''Polar Star'' in any sense a conventional sequel. No ''further adventures of,'' it achieves instead a freshly and powerfully imagined continuation of a man's life. The catchwords of reform, ''thinking in new ways'' and ''restructuring,'' hold only marginal interest for Arkady Renko. For him (and, one assumes, for Mr. Smith), the former is in some measure an illusion, and the latter a code for materialist obsessions having nothing much to do with freedom of the spirit or fulfillment of the soul. Early in the novel, watching a fellow sailor check the waterproof qualities of condoms in which he plans to smuggle radio batteries, Arkady plaintively wonders, ''Is this really where the country is headed? A nation of entrepreneurs happily sorting out condoms, cars, designer furniture?'' Asked what's wrong with that, Arkady replies, ''Gogol's great vision of Russia was of a troika madly dashing through the snow, sparks flying, the other nations of the earth watching in awe. Yours is of a car trunk stuffed with stereo equipment.'' The novel opens with a Conradian evocation of a ship at sea, and immediately we are reminded of just how skilled a storyteller Mr. Smith is, how supple and commanding his prose. There is, not surprisingly, a victim, a dead Russian woman who falls out of a fishing net, her eyes open in surprise ''as if the ship's lamplit fog were golden clouds, as if she had risen in a boat sailing toward heaven itself.'' A series of scenes then makes poetry of the ship's state of decay, the beheading and cleaning of fish, and a primitive, gruesomely hilarious autopsy over which Arkady unhappily presides. ''He always became angry at autopsies - at the victims as well as the murderers. Why didn't some people just shoot themselves in the head the day they were born?'' Yes, why not, particularly in Arkady's view of man's predicament - all of us, like Raskolnikov (to whom Arkady compares himself), forever prisoners of one kind or another, of a careless state whether capitalist or Communist, of a ship in the middle of nowhere, of an insistent self demanding both a reason and a justification to live. More than once Arkady is called a man ''with nothing to lose,'' and even more often his conversation veers to the topic of suicide. Watching dolphins and whales sweep through the water, he thinks of escape, then of his despair. For ''what all these creatures of the sea had, as they swam this way and that, was a sense of purpose. It was what he didn't have.'' But fish, Arkady knows, have primarily one purpose, to survive and reproduce, which is not enough for man. Arkady initially pursues a killer out of his duty to the dead and, of course, his own animal desire to survive. ''A death is a tragedy,'' says the political officer on the ship, ''but an investigation is a political decision.'' Arkady acquiesces in that decision, then rebels and finally, in his need to feel alive - purposeful, connected to his fellow man, in a word, redeemed - he perseveres. The dead woman seems first to have been a smuggler, then a spy, then perhaps both. Her killer or killers could be American or Russian or both, and the motive just about anything. Almost everyone prefers to see the death ruled a suicide or an accident, and the Russian sailors in particular fear losing their shore leave if the investigation goes on too long. Arkady's search for the truth takes him through the rusted, fog-darkened decks of the Polar Star and the sleek passageways of the American sister ship Eagle, to the port of Dutch Harbor on the Aleutian island of Unalaska and a mass of ice stretching into infinity, and through repeated brushes with death from which he always, miraculously, escapes. If, in fact, his escapes are too miraculous, if the complicated plot sometimes forces the reader backward to retrieve the clues on which Arkady exercises his deductive powers, and if at times we miss the passionate love affair at the heart of ''Gorky Park,'' the novel still holds countless pleasures. Fish become as fascinating to us as to Arkady. People, seamen's quarters, moods, are captured in descriptions ranging from the elegant to the wittily vernacular. A school of pollack ''is dredged up like bright coins'' along with ''coral crabs as hairy as tarantulas.'' Arkady's assistant investigator Natasha, a stocky, lovable woman from the slime line, is ''a shot-putter with the soul of Carmen.'' The ship's chief cook wears a forehead sweatband ''like a little ribbon on an oversized box,'' and abandons her fish-cutting tasks ''with the wistful reluctance of a masochist.'' Forensic facts never fail to interest: how quickly a man freezes to death and in what stages, why a dead body would be stabbed, how to reveal latent fingerprints with iodine pills, a spoon and a match. We are given a fanciful explanation for John F. Kennedy's having signed a test-ban treaty, a lesson in getting high from gasoline fumes, even a quirky, offhand homage to Richard Condon's novel ''The Manchurian Candidate.'' When ''Gorky Park'' was published, reviewers reached for comparisons, often to the novels of John le Carre. By this they seemed to mean that, like Mr. le Carre, Martin Cruz Smith comes to us in a direct line of descent running from Conrad through John Buchan and Graham Greene - that is, that he writes extraordinarily well in a genre not usually considered literature. But what many readers thought as far back as Mr. Smith's fourth novel, ''Nightwing,'' is now demonstrated beyond doubt: no comparisons are needed. Rich in humor, generous in spirit, endlessly entertaining and deeply serious, ''Polar Star'' is not merely the work of our best writer of suspense, but of one of our best writers, period. RUSSIAN POLITICS, AMERICAN FOG Martin Cruz Smith used to be denounced as ''anti-Soviet scum.'' Now he is called ''an author of perestroika.'' The world turns. When Mr. Smith's 1981 best seller, ''Gorky Park,'' came out, the Soviet Union denied him a visa; the bleak picture of official corruption offended Moscow's sensibilities. Now, he said in an interview from his home in northern California, a 150-page condensation of ''Gorky Park'' is being published in a Soviet journal and he has just returned from a trip to Moscow on an official invitation. The name of the journal, ''Detective and Politics,'' reflects ''the interplay between the world of detective fiction and the real world of politics,'' Mr. Smith said. ''That's the nice thing about creating a detective story. Everyone will come along and get what he wants from the story, but you can write on more than one level.'' ''Polar Star'' is a rich broth of detail, much of it learned during a three-day visit on a Soviet factory ship, Mr. Smith said. ''This was a frightening thing for the political officer, and there were some intense conversations.'' The captain wanted Mr. Smith on board; the political officer overruled him and kept the author ashore. He then spent an ''endless'' week on an American trawler, ''looking at the fog.'' ''But a wealth of detail is absolutely nothing without character,'' Mr. Smith said. Mr. Smith, who does not speak Russian, is eager to learn more about Soviet society. Arkady Renko, his fictional detective, has not defected, despite opportunity, because ''he is an honest man, and he has that, no matter how dehumanizing the system is. He will not allow himself to be fitted into other people's plans.'' Mr. Smith's main interest is to find out ''what is happening in the Soviet Union. I want to see if I understand it. If I do I'll write another book.'' BARTH HEALEY
