Why has HanseYachts withdrawn from Boot Düsseldorf 2025? The manufacturer explains

HanseYachts, the German manufacturer of sailing and motor yachts, has announced that it will not be exhibiting at the Boot Düsseldorf boat show in January 2025. To explain this decision, the manufacturer issues a press release. It explains a strategic choice, motivated by market trends and costs, revealing a shift towards nautical events at sea and showcasing its showrooms in Germany. This choice highlights the current lack of interest in boat shows, especially indoor ones.

HanseYachts is sending a strong signal by deciding not to participate in Boot Düsseldorf 2025 with its Sealine, Ryck, Hanse, Dehler and Moody brands. Although the Fjord brand will be present with 3 powerboats, the manufacturer is turning away from traditional indoor shows in favor of more economical alternatives, which it believes are better suited to the expectations of its market. This decision raises questions about the business model of indoor boat shows: to what extent do these events still justify their exorbitant cost?

High cost and return on investment: an unbalanced equation

Boat shows, especially indoor ones such as Boot Düsseldorf , involve substantial organizational costs, not to mention the cost of transport, assembly and boat logistics .

For builders like HanseYachts, the equation is becoming increasingly unbalanced. The return on investment is deemed insufficient, with direct sales no longer always able to offset the high expenses incurred. In a tense economic climate, many players in the yachting industry are questioning the relevance of these shows, especially as afloat shows, which are less costly and better suited to presenting large models, are gaining in popularity.

Attractiveness of indoor boat shows: is the model running out of steam?

Faced with the rise of afloat exhibitions, indoor events such as Boot Düsseldorf are struggling to retain their initial appeal. Visitors and exhibitors alike are increasingly sensitive to the real-life experience of presenting boats on the water. These indoor shows offer only a static representation of the units, with no possibility of viewing them in real-life situations. By not coming to Düsseldorf, HanseYachts hopes to redirect its investments towards events more in tune with its customers' expectations.

Permanent showrooms: a long-term alternative?

To meet the needs of its customers and distributors, HanseYachts is showcasing its showrooms in Greifswald and Bernau, offering flexible access and a more permanent alternative to traditional boat shows. These spaces allow customers to discover models in depth, without the logistical and time constraints imposed by temporary shows. In addition to reducing costs, this approach could become a solid, sustainable alternative to repeated participation in expensive boat shows.

Lead generation: the end of boat show dependency

HanseYachts' absence from Boot Düsseldorf does not mean the end of lead generation for the company, which relies on online pre-registration and its distribution networks. According to the company, these strategies can capture up to 20% of the leads generated by a show, while avoiding the costs associated with physical participation. This move towards a digital strategy is part of a wider trend, where yachting players are favoring lead generation solutions that avoid the unnecessary expense of traditional trade shows.

New tariffs and 2025 strategy: a necessary adaptation

HanseYachts' strategy for 2025 also includes price revisions, which will be announced in the coming months. In a market where buyers are increasingly price-sensitive, cost optimization and the quest for greater profitability are becoming priorities for shipyards. Moving away from costly trade shows and redirecting these savings towards pricing incentives and quality services illustrates a new, more pragmatic approach to today's challenges.

Everything you need to know about boot Düsseldorf 2024

The anticipation is building as the world's largest yachts and water sports show, boot Düsseldorf , is set to make a triumphant return on 20-28 January 2024 at Messe Düsseldorf in Germany. Celebrating its 55th edition, the event is poised to surpass its pre-pandemic success, with a spectacular showcase of yachts, cutting-edge technology and the latest trends in the marine world.

In 2023, boot Düsseldorf attracted almost 237,000 visitors from over 60 countries. This international appeal is mirrored in the participation of more than 1,500 exhibitors from 68 nations, converging on a vast 220,000 square metres across 16 exhibition halls. The diversity and scale of the event make it a must-attend for anyone passionate about yachting and water sports.

Powerboat pleasure

Hall 1 will play host to an impressive array of medium-sized powerboats from renowned brands like Bavaria, Bénéteau, Delphia, Elling, Linssen and Sealine. Excitingly, Brazilian manufacturer Schaefer will make its debut appearance, adding a new dimension to the powerboat showcase.

Superyacht luxury

Hall 6 will transform into a haven for luxury yachts, with vessels up to approximately 33 metres resembling floating villas. Attendees can expect to be captivated by brands like Absolute, Azimut, Bluegame, Cranchi, Fairline, Ferretti, Explorer, Pearl, Princess, Sirena, Sunseeker and Wally.

All things sailing

Halls 15 and 16 are dedicated to sailing, featuring manufacturers like Hanse Yachts, X Yachts, Bavaria, Bénéteau, Bente, Contest, Dufour, Elan, Grand Soleil, Gunboat, Hallberg Rassy, Jeanneau, Nautor Swan, Oyster, Saffier and Solaris. A new addition, the Multihull Village, introduces visitors to the world of comfortable multi-hull sailing and power catamarans.

Tenders and RIBs

Hall 3 will be the hub for tenders and outboards, featuring leading brands such as Bayliner, Boston Whaler, Honda, Karnic Powerboats, Mercury, Quicksilver, Sea Ray, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Yamaha. The new Sportfisher Center in the same hall promises to provide valuable insights into the world of fishing on the water. Hall 9, on the other hand, will be a paradise for RIB enthusiasts with a lineup of international manufacturers, including 3D Tender, Henshaw Inflatables, Italboats, Lomac, Nautica, Northstar, Pischel, Bootsbau, Tiger Marine, Wassersport-Center Stockmann, Whaly Boats, Williams Jet Tenders, and Z-Nautic Group’s Zodiac and Bombard.

Technical and environmental initiatives

Halls 10 and 11 will host the latest in engine technology, electrical systems, freshwater and black-water systems, heating and air-conditioning, boat building supplies, maintenance, security and deck equipment. The show will welcome a range of international technology suppliers and engine manufacturers, including Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Huracan Marine, Torqeedo, Kräutler, Dometic and Drinkwaard. The 'blue innovation dock' in Hall 10 will focus on sustainability in watersports, serving as a key networking platform for industry stakeholders.

Watersports adventure

Halls 14 and 17 cater to watersport enthusiasts, offering everything from superyacht water toys, kite surfing, foiling, SUPing and canoeing. There is even the opportunity to do a canoe tour on an indoor river against the backdrop of the Canadian wilderness. This area offers the perfect place to relax after strolling around the show.

Destination inspiration

Hall 13 invites visitors to explore tourist centres from Egypt, Croatia, Mallorca, the Bay of Lübeck and Turkey. This hall serves as a unique travel marketplace, with numerous tour operators, charter brokers, marinas and regional tourism experts offering inspiration for holiday or superyacht itineraries.

Lifestyle and leisure

Hall 11 is a shopper's paradise, offering not only technical accessories but also a range of stylish yachtwear and lifestyle products. The Water Pixel World returns with tips for underwater photography and filming, along with state-of-the-art equipment, and this area also houses the show’s impressive array of diving equipment.

“We have had very successful talks with the manufacturers over the summer months and feel great enthusiasm and anticipation for boot 2024,” says Wolfram Diener, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. “In January, we will also be able to welcome back brands that took a break this year. In particular, we see very high international attendance from exhibitors. This means boot 2024 will reach the highest level, present wide and varied ranges for both water sports and destinations and will again position itself as the world-leading show for this industry.”

Hanse Yachts at Cannes Yachting Festival 2024: A Highlight of Innovation

The event was a significant platform for Hanse, Moody, Fjord, Sealine, and Ryck to engage with both the yachting community and the press, solidifying their presence in the luxury boating market.

Hanse Yachts once again made waves at the prestigious Cannes Yachting Festival 2024, showcasing an impressive array of yachts and celebrating the nomination of two of its flagship models for the European Yacht of the Year 2025 award.

A stellar lineup of yachts

At this year’s festival, Hanse Yachts presented a variety of models across its multiple brands. The Hanse booth featured the highly anticipated Hanse 360 , the versatile Hanse 410 , and the luxurious Hanse 590 , which made its grand debut at a press event led by CEO Hanjo Runde and Product Manager Andreas Unger. The press event attracted key industry journalists, giving them an exclusive look at the brand-new Hanse 590. The model is already turning heads with its innovative design and promises to set new standards in the yachting world.

In addition to Hanse’s lineup, the Moody 48 Decksaloon , known for its unparalleled comfort and class, also garnered attention at the event. Both the Hanse 360 and Moody 48 have been nominated for the prestigious European Yacht of the Year 2025 award, marking a significant achievement for the brand and reflecting the high level of craftsmanship and innovation that Hanse Yachts continues to deliver.

FJORD lineup on Cannes Yachting Festival 2024

Fjord, another standout brand under the Hanse Yachts umbrella, showcased three leading models: the Fjord 39XL , Fjord 41XL , and Fjord 53XL . The Fjord 39XL made its French debut with a press event hosted by Hanjo Runde and Product Manager Andrea Zambonini. Fjord’s lineup emphasizes sleek, modern design and superior performance, and the event provided an excellent opportunity to engage with loyal customers and new enthusiasts alike.

Nomination's for the European Yacht of the Year 2025

Meanwhile, the nomination of the Hanse 360 and Moody 48 Decksaloon for the European Yacht of the Year 2025 award added further prestige to Hanse Yachts’ presence at the festival. Both models have been praised not only by the company’s dealers but also by visitors, reinforcing the brand's reputation for excellence.
