On Monday, the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) hosted its traditional summer cocktail, a significant event attended by Prince Albert II and 2,500 members of the club.

Held on June 17, 2024, the occasion celebrated two major milestones: the 10th anniversary of the club's new building and the 40th anniversary of Prince Albert II's presidency. It symbolizes our determination to remain at the forefront of yachting while staying true to our core values," stated Prince Albert II.

The Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series season culminates for the J/70s at the fourth and final act held on the same weekend (March 2-5) as the 39th Primo Cup-Trophée Credit Suisse (2-5 March) that will gather the Smeralda 888, Longtze Premier and RS 21 classes. Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (July 3-8) celebrates its 10 th anniversary

Festivities will continue in July with the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, from July 3-8. For the last ten years, this event has been bringing young engineers from technical colleges and universities the world over into contact with yachting industry players. The goal is to stimulate their creativity by getting them to design eco-responsible alternative propulsion systems, with everyone sharing information on open source.

A host of new features marks this 10th edition, in partnership with Aqua superPower, including the first ever E-Boat Rally of electric boats already on the market, enabling a record number of these boats to show the public what a cleaner future could look like.

Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe (September 13-16)

Monaco Classic Week

In short, it is going to be a special year, made up of yachting, sea, boats, events and information, but also with an eye to the future and to young people: all that remains is to enjoy it to the full, breathing in the passion that will pervade the Yacht Club de Monaco’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

The Yacht Club of Monaco celebrates 70 fabulous years

yacht club monaco events

Prince Albert II was among friends and compatriots for the 70 th anniversary celebrations of the Yacht Club de Monaco, of which he has served as president since 1984.

The ceremony on Saturday 24 th June was attended by 1,500 people who gathered on the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM)’s quay to celebrate 70 years of the club created by Prince Rainier III, who was convinced that “the future of Monaco lies with the sea”.

On Saturday, it was his son, Prince Albert II, president for close to 40 years, who honoured what the YCM has become.

“The Yacht Club de Monaco has been able to preserve and pass on the traditions linked to life at sea while promoting innovation and the development of yachting,” said the Prince.

Achievements under the presidency of Prince Albert II

Under Prince Albert’s presidency, the Yacht Club de Monaco has organised a multitude of world-renowned events, including Monaco Classic Week, a biennial event that echoes the first motorboat meetings of 1904 and is the only event of its kind that brings together beautiful traditional sailing boats with vintage motoryachts and old motorboats.

The club has also created the La Belle Classe label to unite owners around the essential values of respect for etiquette, protecting the environment, preserving maritime heritage and encouraging innovation in the superyacht sector.

The capital of luxury yachting

In 2014, the YCM turned a new page in its history with the opening of a new clubhouse designed by Lord Foster. The arrival of this spectacular building led to the creation of the ‘Yachting Monaco’ cluster, aimed at reaffirming the Principality’s position as the capital of luxury yachting.

During Saturday’s celebrations, Prince Albert spoke about how the YCM serves as a reflection of his father’s passion for the sea. “His vision was to make the YCM an exclusive place where yachting is experienced, appreciated and celebrated, thus contributing to the promotion of Monaco as a destination.”

Setting the pace in sustainable yachting

Prince Albert also highlighted the fact that the protection of the oceans remains one of the Yacht Club’s main priorities, and how the environmental transition played by the club and its marina has over the years made them demonstrators of new eco-responsible solutions.

“I want to make environmental issues a priority and we must continue to be a beacon for the nautical industry,” he said. “The mobilisation must be common and total.”

The Yacht Club’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the activities that fall under the aegis of the ‘Monaco Capital of Advanced Yachting’, starting with the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge from 3 rd to 8 th July 2023, now in its 10th edition. More than 500 young engineers representing 25 nations and 25 universities will meet industry professionals including key players such as Oceanco, Ferretti, Sanlorenzo, Lürssen, Monaco Marine and Palumbo SY Refit.

This will be followed by the 3rd Monaco Smart and Sustainable Marina Rendezvous on 24th and 25th September, with the aim of presenting innovative solutions for the development of sustainable marinas.

A tribute to Prince Rainier III

As part of the 70 th anniversary celebrations, as well as the centenary events marking the birth of Prince Rainier III, Prince Albert inaugurated a photographic exhibition at the YCM titled ‘Prince Rainier III, a sailor above all’.

The evening also provided an opportunity to officially welcome some 30 new members and to unveil the highlights of this anniversary year.

Ten years ago, the whole Yacht Club de Monaco family gathered to attend the inauguration of the new building designed by Lord Foster. This year the traditional Summer Cocktail held on Monday 17 th  June was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the 10 th  anniversary and 40 years of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco’s presidency, surrounded by HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover, YCM Vice-Presidents Andrea and Pierre Casiraghi, Alexandra of Hanover and the Management Committee. Between surprise videos, personal messages, live music and a gourmet voyage on the quays by 17 renowned chefs, presenting specialities of their regions associated with a wine estate, everyone enjoyed the togetherness of the occasion.

Ten years of challenges

“During the inauguration in 2014, I shared with you an ambition to make Monaco a reference in the yachting world. I then talked about the many bold projects we had in the pipeline in terms of innovation, competition and training,”  began HSH Prince Albert II. Launch of La Belle Classe and its training centre, setting up the Cluster Yachting Monaco and organising international championships are just a few of the many challenges the Club has risen to since then that have proved to be a great success. “ In accordance with its statutes, our Yacht Club is now recognised as a major player in promoting our Principality, thereby contributing to its international appeal,”  continued the Prince.

A long-term commitment

The gathering was also an opportunity to celebrate the Sovereign’s 40 years as President who has been at the helm of YCM since 1984. “ I wanted then to ramp up the Club’s sports policy to ensure we continued to broaden our ambitions. Our members who represent us on race areas all over the world have excelled, flying our flag high on the top steps of podiums”.  Indeed a passion for sailing is reflected in the successes achieved over many years as evidenced by the five World Champion titles won by members in 2023.

YCM’s two emblematic boats,  Tuiga  and  Malizia , illustrate to perfection this quest for excellence.  While the first represents all the elegance and traditions associated with yachting, the second under Team Malizia founder Pierre Casiraghi’s leadership is involved in offshore racing and is the “ herald of our commitment to sustainability and technological progress” . Having secured two superb second places recently in the Transat CIC and New York Vendée-Les Sables d’Olonne return race, the IMOCA’s skipper Boris Herrmann is all set to take the start of the next Vendée Globe on 10 th  November 2024.

As Monaco welcomes the Olympic flame on Tuesday 18 th  June, the Sovereign also wanted to highlight the importance he attaches to values associated with sport: “ Good performances start from a very young age and I am convinced that sport is one of the pillars of our society. It is a cornerstone in the development of our young people and a guiding force for social cohesion”.

The Club’s young sailors in the Sports Section wanted to send him a message: “ Thank you for supporting and believing in us. We are very proud to fly the flags of the Principality and our Club ”. It was an emotional moment as five flags from the International Code of Signals representing “Thank You” (in French) were raised. The many surprises addressed to the Club’s President concluded with the official presentation of a book published by Assouline produced especially for the occasion and given as a gift to all members.

A model built to be an example

YCM’s building is a role model of excellence, innovation and preservation of the marine environment, embodying the ambitions of the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of  Advanced  Yachting’ approach. The Sovereign recalled the importance of having a committed environmental policy, highlighting initiatives such as water recycling, the fleet of electric tenders and use of solar panels. The Club promotes these values through its SEA Index®, an essential reference for assessing CO2 emissions of boats, and events like the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (1-6 July) that establishes links between the new generation and yachting professionals, and the Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous and Monaco Smart Marina Rendezvous which promote innovative technology and an eco-evolution for yachts, ensuring they can call into virtuous marinas.

Buoyed by its 70 year history, Yacht Club de Monaco continues to write new chapters based on its motto ‘One Spirit, One Team, One Club’ and welcomes all those passionate about the sea to the annual Fête de la Mer on Saturday 22 nd  June.

The Cluster Yachting Monaco celebrates the 10th anniversary at the Yacht Club de Monaco

June 18, 2024 07:33 ET | Source: Yacht Club de Monaco Yacht Club de Monaco

TURIN, Italy, June 18, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Cluster Yachting Monaco turns 10. Over 150 people attended the anniversary celebration, before HSH Prince Albert II, president of the Yacht Club de Monaco, who congratulated members for the work they do to promote the Monegasque yachting sector. "This initiative has become a reality. You are ambassadors of the yachting industry in the Principality. We want it to be as sustainable as possible over time but to also have an environmental purpose," said the Sovereign. Turning 10 is also the building of the Yacht Club the Monaco designed by Lord Foster, the centre piece of the remodeled harbor with and eco-responsible approach.

20240610_DSCF6385@mesi_BD

The yachting industry currently represents 411 specialist companies in Monaco, generating 1,429 jobs on land for a turnover topping 567.1 million euros. Since it was set up, the Cluster Yachting Monaco, with its 90 company members, has played a vital role as a unifier and intermediary in this industry. By bringing together the different players from brokers to yacht designers, shipyards to equipment suppliers and many other professions, it has generated a unique synergy to drive innovation and sustainable growth in this largely unknown sector.

"In ten years we have achieved many milestones, highlighting the strategic aspect of yachting in Monaco’s economy," commented YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri, Founder & President of the Cluster Yachting Monaco, alongside Vice-Presidents Espen Oeino and Edouard Mousny, Treasurer Laurent Certaldi and the whole industry. Today "it has become the representative of the Monegasque yachting industry on the international stage, including at the most prestigious boat shows in the world, such as those in Dubai, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Palma and Monaco," says Bernard d’Alessandri.

Continuing efforts to boost training of talented youngsters, to further improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable practices even more than we do now, are the missions Cluster Yachting Monaco have taken on. All its member companies are keen to build a more sustainable future in accordance with the ambitions of the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach. "Despite the successes, we are aware that there is a long way to go. Many challenges remain if yachting is to become an exemplary sector in terms of economic performance, technological innovation and environmental responsibility," stresses Bernard d’Alessandri. The event was attended by a number of big names in the industry, including Peter Lürssen from the eponymous German shipyard for whom the Cluster "must keep going on this path of excellence and continue to inspire us to build a future for sustainable yachting".

It is with this in mind that so many stakeholders in the sector will be coming to encourage innovation among the younger generation during the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (1-6 July 2024).

The cluster yachting monaco celebrates the 10th anniversary at the yacht club de monaco.

Practical information, monaco classic week – la belle classe, the yacht club de monaco's must-see event, september 10-13 2025.

This biennial event, which is the first gathering in the world to honour sailing and motor boats, bears witness to the Yacht Club de Monaco’ s unfailing attachment to the maritime heritage of sailing. Echoing the first motorboat meetings in 1904, this event is the only one to bring together the most beautiful traditional sailing boats, with vintage motor-yachts and old motorboats, to which a fleet of 12′ Dinghies has been added for four the last editions.

The 17th Monaco Classic Week-La Belle Classe is already shaping up to be an exceptional event, celebrating the gastronomy, grace and beauty of classic boats on land and at sea, not forgetting the dexterity of motorboats. This event is an opportunity to honour the maritime heritage represented by these boats, which are often over a hundred years old, to preserve traditional craftsmanship, to rediscover the joys of old-fashioned sailing and to bring owners and crews together ashore for moments of conviviality in the pure tradition of Monegasque savoir-vivre and its “Art de Vivre la Mer” so dear to the Y.C.M.

Anyone else think Shovel Knight DX is one version too many of this game? We had the original release, then came the Treasure Trove pack, and now the DX version. Feels like they're milking their first game completely dry by this point.

  • JackieCMarlow

Mina the Hollower looks so damn good, but man it sure would have been nice to at least get an expected year for it's release.

@steruphan I get where you’re coming from, but there are new gamers and, crucially, consoles coming along all the time. Someone with a new PlayBox or XStation is unlikely to go looking to buy a ten-year-old game.

Like you, I probably won’t get it. Treasure Trove was already almost more content than I needed!

That definitive edition looks great! I’m glad I held off from rebuying the treasure trove or standalone edition on switch.

I wish they’d finally get around to selling the plague knight campaign as a standalone title though.

Can you have too much Shovel Knight?

@steruphan Nobody is forcing you to buy it.

Mina is going to be gem! I can feel it.

Was waiting on a release date for Mina, so a bit underwhelming that its still got a vague "coming soon" attached to it. A new presumably 3D Shovel Knight game is awesome... but not even a proper tease of it, so nothing to really be excited about with that. The rest of the announcements weren't really interesting to me either, sadly.

Mina the Hollower keeps on looking great, so glad I was able to support it on Kickstarter! Shovel of Hope DX also looks great and could be the opportunity for me to finally play that game myself while the rest is a maybe.

@steruphan I got this on Wii U about a decade ago and didn't bother double-dipping as (1) the Wii U version seemed to get all the upgrades, (2) this isn't a game that will benefit from more powerful hardware as it's purposefully retro, and (3) appreciate I'm in the minority, but I didn't think it lived up to the hype it got when it first came out.

I may take this opportunity to finally upgrade and give it another go though, not least because my gamepad is on its last legs.

Man I still haven’t played shovel knight lol. Might as well now that DX is a thing.

Love the game but it's very annoying that the base Shovel Knight has so many different versions, from Shovel of Hope and the three DLCs on the eshop, to the complete Treasure Trove edition which many own physically. Now a new version comes out and makes the current ones redundant. I won't be getting it unless it comes as a free update or heavily discounted for existing owners.

  • LikelySatan

I'm so awful at Pocket Dungeon. I keep trying to make it click because it's gorgeous and has a great sense of humor, etc, but it hasn't yet.

if shovel knight was a cow he'd have sore udders

Meh, Shovel Knight is still great and all but I won't get Shovel of Hope DX since I had more then enough fill of SK1 and SK in general for now. And the newly announced (3D-hinted) Shovel Knight mainline title is atleast a few years wait before we get to see it in action. I'm more excited for Mina the Hollower.

@sanderev They're just voicing their opinion and it's one I agree with.

Shovel knight dx is an update for treasure trove?

@LXP8 I'm also voicing my opinion.

@steruphan from what they said they're basically just future-proofing the title it contains everything from every version of it including certain things that were exclusive to different versions like the 3DS version etc

  • BrazillianCara

I MIGHT double-dip with the DX version if they release a physical cartridge... and my finances allow it.

@edgedino Then why not patch the current versions? Why ask your fans to buy the game again?

  • GrizzledVeteran

I guess I'm confused about the stereoscopic 3D (as mentioned at the 1:30 mark of the Hope DX trailer); How is that going to be accessed other than busting out the ol' 3DS?

@sanderev Yes, but it's already pretty obvious from what they wrote that they won't want to buy the new game. Your comment just came across as unecessary and gave the impression you didn't want to hear their opinion just because it's negative, when you should expect a range of opinions in a comments section.

@steruphan because the game is 10 years old doesn't sound like a worthwhile thing to do plus based on what it seems like they had to do a lot of reprogramming from the ground up for coding though they probably did have some free done code that they just copy and pasted for some of it

I liked pretty much everything in the presentation except Shovel of Hope DX. The DLCs look neat, Mina looks excellent, the marketing stuff is...whatever, everyone using their Nintendo Direct voices was funny. But Shovel of Hope DX should be sold as a discounted DLC for the base game on platforms you can already buy the base game on (and to be fair, they haven't said this won't be the case). When I watched it I couldn't help thinking that it looks pretty much the same as it did when I bought it eight years ago on my 3DS, new playable characters aside.

Edit: forgot to mention the game jam they announced too. I'm not a dev, but I've always been interested, and this could be a good excuse to try it out.

@GrizzledVeteran might be used to just jiggle the screen a bit to see it from different angles, or it might be compatible with VR visors.

  • SpeedRunRocks

Aww, I was hoping for a physical release of Cyber Shadow, or some extra content, or something.. that game rules!!

I'm glad a new mainline shovel knight is being made, but at least I want the release date for mina the hollower, I actually think we'll get the release date at the end of mina update video..

@SpeedRunRocks True, cyber shadow rules, the music and gameplay is top notch, it's one of my favs 2D indie games

We spent $20,980 to see the Formula 1 Grand Prix live. The luxury yacht party and epic balcony views weren't even the best parts.

  • My fiancé and I splurged on a trip to Monaco for our very first Formula 1 Grand Prix.
  • For about $20,980, we stayed in Nice, France , and attended the races all weekend.
  • We also attended a luxurious yacht party and soaked in views of Monaco during the race.

Insider Today

My fiancé and I saved up to celebrate our recent engagement in style during one of the year's most iconic, expensive weekends: the Formula 1 (F1) Monaco Grand Prix.

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is an annual race for drivers in the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula cars.

Though the sport is popular in Europe, it gained the attention of international audiences with the release of Netflix's Formula 1 documentary series, "Drive to Survive." In a 2022 poll from Morning Consult , 53% of nearly 1,900 F1 fans said the series contributed to their interest in the sport.

However, we've been dedicated F1 fans long before the series launched in 2019, and have always considered the Monaco Grand Prix the best race on the calendar.

Like many fans, we were willing to splurge to see some of our favorite drivers and were excited to attend the event this past May. We purchased a package from F1 Experiences for £15,220, or about $19,370, with a $1,610 yacht party add-on. The package for my partner and me included a hotel stay , two days of live racing, and transportation to and from the event.

From an unbelievable balcony view of the racetrack to cheering on a historic win, here's what the experience was like.

We stayed at a hotel in Nice, France.

yacht club monaco events

We stayed four nights at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée on the French Riviera, a 30-to-40-minute drive from Monaco.

Our hotel-room balcony overlooked the stunning Côte d'Azur region, and we were within walking distance of Nice's historic and charming old town.

We prepared for the high-energy weekend by celebrating at a yacht party.

yacht club monaco events

To fully experience the glamorous lifestyle in Monaco, we indulged in a yacht party on Friday night. This experience was an add-on to our overall package, and it cost £1,265, or about $1,610.

We boarded the boat and were greeted with glasses of Champagne. The bottomless drinks and canapés flowed as the onboard DJ pumped music, drowning out the sounds of nearby boats.

As dusk turned to nightfall, the partygoers seemed to buzz with anticipation for the excitement the weekend had to offer — and we couldn't wait.

On Saturday, I was excited to finally attend the main event, the Grand Prix.

yacht club monaco events

On Saturday, we boarded a coach bus to Monaco and headed to the Ermanno Penthouse to watch the race. There, we climbed up 12 flights of stairs for a taste of Monégasque luxury.

The Penthouse's balcony terrace — overlooking the Port Hercules marina, stacked with at least 250 yachts — gave us an unbelievable panoramic view of Monaco's shimmering blue coastline and at least two-thirds of the racetrack.

From our viewpoint, we could see the start and finish line, up the hill toward the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the racetrack's tunnel exit, around the marina, and even the champions' podium.

We felt the thrill of the race from our balcony.

yacht club monaco events

Saturday's qualifying session was electrifying. Throughout the day, we saw the Formula 3 and Formula 2 sprint races, which typically feature aspiring F1 drivers . Then, we saw the F1 free practice three, which served as a practice round for F1 drivers to fine-tune their skills.

Lastly, we saw the F1 qualifying race, which determined each driver's place on the grid for Sunday's event.

I did notice, however, that my fiancé and I seemed to be two of the very few true F1 fans on the balcony. Many of our neighbors appeared to be new to the sport and seemed more interested in selfies or sparkling wine.

We enjoyed food and drinks as well.

Not only could we see much of Monaco from the balcony, but also we enjoyed warm hospitality from the staff.

The staff members served various snacks and offered as much Champagne, spirits, and soft drinks as we wanted. For breakfast, we had croissants and pain au chocolat with coffee, followed by finger sandwiches, sliders, canapés, and tasty desserts.

We even had a few celebrity sightings.

Celebrating the same event as A-list celebrities like John Legend , Anya Taylor-Joy, and Kylian Mbappé felt like a real pinch-me moment — though we only caught glimpses of them in the VIP area on TV screens showing sports coverage, the same way viewers would see them on television.

The celebrities at the Grand Prix, which took place just after the star-studded Cannes Film Festival, made it feel like the spot to be.

We saw a race-car collision from our balcony.

Unfortunately, the weekend wasn't all positive. During the first lap of Sunday's F1 race, we saw a massive crash involving several drivers who couldn't continue in the event.

On a more positive note, we saw our favorite driver win the Grand Prix.

The highlight of the weekend was cheering Ferrari F1 driver and Monégasque Charles Leclerc on to his first-ever victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.

As Leclerc's bright-red Ferrari zoomed by with a clear lead on his last lap, a symphony of boats blared their horns, and the crowd erupted in cheers. Leclerc is also the first Monégasque driver to win the race in over 90 years.

We watched the Champagne showers and celebrations on the podium, and my fiancé and I shared a kiss (and a few happy tears). It was the perfect end to an unforgettable weekend.

Overall, we were so glad we got to attend the Monaco Grand Prix.

Overall, attending the Grand Prix in person was worth the money for us. We saw our favorite driver achieve a historic F1 milestone on a legendary track along a beautiful European coastline.

Though I wouldn't say it's worth the splurge for those who don't follow F1, plenty of guests on our balcony were there for the vibes, the flowing drinks, and the lush atmosphere.

We'd consider attending another F1 Grand Prix in the future. Still, our first taste of Monaco had our hearts racing — and the experience will be incredibly tough to top.

The Cluster Yachting Monaco celebrates the 10th anniversary at the Yacht Club de Monaco
