DIBS

“ We are looking forward to welcoming marine enthusiasts, maritime investors and those who are interested in all things ocean to DIBS23 ,” says  Riju George , Group Director, Exhibitions, DWTC. “ Dubai has a rich maritime heritage and over the years has created an extensive ecosystem and a sophisticated hub to nurture some of the greatest boat designers and manufacturers in the world; that’s why every year we see an influx of international visitors to the show .”

With more than 12% of the world’s superyachts in the MENA region, it’s no surprise that Dubai has become one the top-10 nautical hubs of the world within the marine industry – home to several world-class waterfront property developments and many exquisite marinas. Such infrastructure has made DIBS the perfect platform for the more than 1,000 global brands to showcase their wares and launch their latest innovations this year.

Alongside over 50 global and regional launches to be announced at the show, DIBS23 will feature a stunning lineup of yachts, with more than 10 new brands on display including Abeking & Rasmussen, Boutique Yachts, Finnmaster, Greenline Yachts, Nordhavn, SAY Carbon Yachts, Sirena Yachts, and Tecnomar . What’s more, the event will also be the stage for the The Majesty of Gulfcraft 111 , described as ‘anything but an average superyacht’. It will set a design precedent, offering more than ever before in terms of its design, engineering, architecture, and technical features.

DIBS-Marina

“ At this year’s edition of Dubai International Boat Show, we are thrilled to introduce our brand-new Majesty 111 superyacht – a vessel that will redefine industry standards and set the precedent for our future Majesty models. We are committed to continue our contribution to the region’s yachting industry and look forward to further supporting the UAE’s reputation as an exceptional global yachting destination .”

Ocean lovers can also explore the ocean with Sunseeker Gulf at its debut as the new regional distributor of Sunseeker Yachts across the GCC; known for exceptional yacht designs and innovative technology, Sunseeker Gulf is poised to impress everyone with its latest offerings.

Within the Equipment, Supplies and Services area, there is plenty to discover in terms of advanced marine technologies, such as the Starlink internet connection service, the revolutionary high speed service from Space X, which enables boat owners to connect from the most remote waters across the world. Silent-Yachts , instead, is the premier ocean-going production yachts in the world which are powered solely by clean energy, with solar panels and batteries feeding electric motors through the sun’s rays.

Dubai International Boat Show 2023: Everything to Expect

By Heather Collier

From the 1st to the 5th of March 2023, Dubai International Boat Show, the largest and most exciting marine and lifestyle show in the Middle East and North Africa region, will return to the glamorous brand-new Dubai Harbour.

Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) is the largest and most established boat show in the UAE, GCC and Middle East. Whether you want to buy a boat, discover luxury yachts and superyachts, explore the latest diving and aquatic innovations or ride the sparkling waves, it’s the perfect event to live a little more.

Making a return in 2023, the DIBS is once again set to be an unmissable marine and luxury lifestyle event. Showcasing the finest in luxury superyachts and leisure craft from around the globe, this truly world-class event brings together boat buyers, sellers and enthusiasts.

Relocating to the glamourous location of Dubai Harbour in March 2022, the DIBS is situated in a world-class maritime neighbourhood like no other. With its cosmopolitan lifestyle, unprecedented marina berth mix, the region's most advanced cruise terminals and extraordinary location, Dubai Harbour is the ideal home of the world-renowned boat show.

Some of the largest and most exciting yachts in attendance this year include:

Ocean Independence  will be exhibiting at the Dubai International Boat Show for the first time, with the stunning 68-metre Soaring  on display. Her exterior design and interior design is by Focus Yacht Design, with naval architecture penned by Abeking & Rasmussen .

Soaring  is a bespoke superyacht built for an experienced owner with a demanding brief. Some of the requests of the owner included a private owner’s deck with an aft looking grand master suite, the biggest possible tender and a gym complete with a wellness centre with direct access to the water.

" We are happy to be able to offer a new and premium-quality vessel with Soaring. The design, the layout and, of course, the quality of this 68-metre yacht engineered by one of the most prestigious yards worldwide into a very attractive offer in this very popular size ," commented Peter Hürzeler, Managing Partner of Ocean Independence .

In terms of performance, Soaring has a top speed of 16 knots, a cruising speed of 14 knots, a fuel capacity of 180 litres, and a water capacity of 39 litres. She also has a range of 4,500 nautical miles.

Represented by Sanlorenzo's Middle East dealer, the shipyard will display one of its most acclaimed models, the SX88 crossover, which prides itself on introducing a new type of yacht to the market. SX88, a synthesis between the classic motor yacht with flying bridge and the explorer typology, is designed for true sea-going enthusiasts, experienced and demanding owners, who choose to experience their craft in a new and dynamic way, in constant connection with the external environment.

The most valued feature of this 27-metre yacht is the opportunity to completely open the space from stern to bow, thus creating a truly open loft.

77m+ 'BEACH' Line Trio

Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design has announced the launch of a new line of superyachts. Named ‘BEACH’, the new series features three distinctive designs in three impressive lengths: 77m, 88m, and 99m.

The BEACH series' interior style is relaxed and informal, whilst remaining open to individual accents in art, furniture, and colour to accommodate an owner's personal taste and style. Each yacht length boasts full-height glass façades at the higher deck cabins and lounges, to offer bounds of natural light and create a feeling of limitless space between the indoors and outdoors.

Sustainability

This year's show also features a programme of initiatives to promote sustainability, combining community, creativity, and a love for our oceans.

Dubai Can is a sustainability initiative by the Crown Prince of Dubai that aims to protect the environment by reducing single-use plastic water bottles across the city. There has since been a saving of more than 5 million 500ml single-use plastic water bottles at the public fountains across the city.

Trust Your Water is a water solution company with expert personnel who have a thorough knowledge of water purification and sanitation. TYW have partnered with DIBS to provide filtered water throughout the show at water stations for every visitor to use and refill their bottles.

SunKiss is created with Sustainability and CSR in mind: reef friendly formulations, employee wellness programme, proudly made in the UAE minimising the carbon footprint, and presented in aluminium - refillable, reusable and recyclable bottles.

Ethical Yacht Wear was founded to fill a gap in the crew uniform market by supplying 100% ethical, sustainable material, 100% fair trade crew uniform, having prevented over half a million plastic bottles from entering the world’s oceans through sustainable uniform.

Additonally, over 40 UAE schools in the GEMS Education network will take part in a DIBS-led art competition to celebrate World Whale Day.

Since its inception in 2004, the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project has rehabilitated an incredible 1,600 turtles, releasing them back into their natural habitat.

In January 2023, Atlantic Ocean Row completed 5,252 un-aided row across the Atlantic. In partnership with unep clean seas initiative, come to hear about their journey and sustainability efforts.

The show remains an opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to come together in an incredible setting, surrounded by the latest in yacht technology and design. With plenty of opportunities, this event is a must for your 2023 yachting calendar.

"We are happy to be able to offer a new and premium-quality vessel with Soaring. The design, the layout and, of course, the quality of this 68-metre yacht engineered by one of the most prestigious yards worldwide into a very attractive offer in this very popular size." Dubai International Boat Show 2024 at Dubai Harbour

Everything you need to know about Dubai International Boat Show 2024

In a report by renowned consultancy Knight Frank, Dubai anticipates a staggering 39 per cent surge in its ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI) by 2026. Asserting its status as a premier destination for UHNWI and global tourists, Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) , the region’s largest marine lifestyle exhibition, stands as a testament to the city's popularity. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the global marine industry will descend on Dubai Harbour from 28 February to 3 March 2024, offering a spectacular backdrop for yachts up to 160 metres LOA and emphasising themes of marine sustainability and cutting-edge technologies.

What’s on at Dubai International Boat Show 2024?

Organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), DIBS 2024 promises a dynamic showcase on both land and water, featuring hundreds of luxury yachts for visitors and investors alike. As a pivotal event in Dubai's yachting sector and annual calendar, DIBS offers valuable networking opportunities and a glimpse into the future of marine technology and design.

Over 1,000 brands are set to converge at this five-day extravaganza, with 200 boats expected on display, including premier shipyards such as Azimut , Cranchi , Gulf Craft , Ferretti , Princess , Sanlorenzo , Sunreef and Sunseeker . The international exhibition serves as a comprehensive platform for unveiling innovations, introducing new launches and fostering business prospects with global leaders and pioneers from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The 30th edition will once again host DIVE MENA , an exclusive show for the UAE and GCC diving community, along with a networking evening for captains and a celebration of local talent through the Proudly UAE initiative, honouring the country’s rich maritime heritage.

Supercar Avenue will showcase an exclusive lineup of the world’s most coveted cars, while the Marine Art Gallery will present a unique collection of sea-inspired pieces crafted by internationally renowned artists.

“VIP guests have the chance to go behind the scenes of the region's best-loved boat show for a bespoke AAA tour of the most premium selection of luxurious yachts, this platform redefines expectations,” says Trixie LohMirmand, executive vice president of the Dubai World Trade Centre. “Complementing this prestigious showcase, there is also an exclusive VIP lounge, where A-listers and industry experts meet and mingle in a luxurious lounge environment.”

The annual Middle East Yachting Conference (MEYC) is set to kick off the festivities on 27 February, providing a platform for yachting professionals and enthusiasts to delve into the industry’s most pressing topics and unify the entire sector.

Unmatched business opportunities

DIBS annually encapsulates the MENA region’s enviable position as one of the richest yachting landscapes globally, boasting the second-highest fleet-to-billionaire ratio. Currently home to 12.6 per cent of the world’s superyacht fleet, forecasts predict substantial expansion, with the luxury yacht market projected to grow from US$306 million in 2022 to an estimated US$481 million by 2028.

Dubai's allure extends beyond the yachting industry, with global investors and entrepreneurs increasingly choosing the city for their growing businesses and projects. The emirate’s attractive ecosystem for start-ups and entrepreneurs, long-term residency scheme, impeccable infrastructure and dynamic calendar of events contribute to its worldwide appeal.

“Exhibitors at Dubai International Boat Show 2023 unanimously reported strong lead generation and sales over the five-day event,” explains LohMirmand. “The Italian-headquartered Sanlorenzo Yachts closed three deals for a total value of AED 390 million (EUR 100 million), while Yachts 1, the official dealer of Princess Yachts, Sanlorenzo, Cranchi, SEABOB, Al Dhaen and Williams Jet Tenders, converted five deals valued at AED 78 million (EUR 20 million).

Shaping the future of yachting

Dubai’s global significance as an aspirational destination and power hub was reinforced when it hosted the UN Climate Change Conference, COP28, in late 2023. The conference concluded with a historic agreement to move away from fossil fuels across all sectors, including the marine industry.

“With the increased awareness of global sustainability challenges, there is a growing demand for sustainable investment as it not only contributes to positive global outcomes but also offers investors the potential for financial returns, risk mitigation and alignment with personal values,” says LohMirmand. “Key exhibitors such as Sunreef Yachts have confirmed they will bring all-electric yachts to the show to push the electric transition forward with Francis Lapp, the founder and president of Sunreef Yachts, highlighting that DIBS is a wonderful opportunity to promote a cleaner boating experience. Visitors can witness how luxury and sustainability can be combined.”

Tourism boom

Events like COP28 and DIBS have contributed to significant growth in the UAE's tourism sector, with hotel revenues reaching AED 32.2 billion up until September 2023, reflecting a growth rate of 27 per cent compared to the same period in 2022.

“Dubai International Boat Show underlines this region’s passion for the maritime sector and Dubai’s ability to host events that bring the world together,” LohMirmand adds. “Growing from humble beginnings in 1992 to the internationally renowned experience that DIBS will be again in 2024 demonstrates how the show has developed alongside the unstoppable evolution of Dubai.”

As Dubai continues to strengthen its position as one of the nautical capitals of the world, various marina and waterfront developments are helping to further enhance the destination’s vision for a maritime lifestyle.

As a city that has steadily grown to secure its position as one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world, Dubai has a lot to offer every traveller – from shopping malls and hotels to desert adventures, theme parks, and dining experiences.

However, recent years have seen residents increasingly turn their interest to waterfront developments that are redefining what it means to enjoy a lifestyle split between the land and sea. Seafaring activities such as sailing and fishing, as well as water adventures like parasailing, jet skiing, and diving are proving to be increasingly popular with residents, and Dubai has witnessed a steady increase in the number of marina and waterfront developments as a result. The number of boat owners across the UAE has also seen a steady increase and are projected to hit 20,000 by 2025.

Dubai has a centuries-old maritime history and is celebrated today for its stunning beachfront destinations such as The Palm Jumeirah, The World Islands, Bluewaters Island, Dubai Creek, Al Seef, Mina Rashid, Daria Island, Dubai Marina, and Marasi Business Bay.

The emirate is also home to 15 vibrant marinas with more than 3,000 docking spots, many of which can comfortably accommodate superyachts and mega yachts. Such developments have attracted the attention of an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs), who are flocking to the UAE to experience the best of marina lifestyle living. It is expected that the number of HNWIs in the UAE will rise to reach more than 228,000 by 2026.

Dubai Harbour, in particular, stands as a maritime facility featuring approximately 700 berths capable of accommodating yachts of lengths up to 160 metres. This makes it the perfect location for the upcoming 29th edition of the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS 2023), which will open to residents and international visitors on March 1, 2023.

“We are extremely excited to once again be returning to the stunning views of the Dubai Harbour for the 2023 edition of the Dubai International Boat Show,” said Riju George, group director – Exhibitions, DWTC.

“Over the years, the show has transformed into one of the most highly anticipated nautical exhibitions in the world, as well as the ultimate place to be for anyone that is interested in exploring the unforgettable marine lifestyle on offer in Dubai.”

Similarly, Abdulla Binhabtoor, chief portfolio management officer, Shamal Holding, the owner and curator of Dubai Harbour, said: “We are delighted to return for the second year as the permanent home of the Dubai International Boat Show 2023, which continues to play a major role in strengthening the position of Dubai as a global maritime hub.”

yacht show dubai

He added: “As a manifestation of Dubai’s wider urban planning, coastline development and tourism strategies, Dubai Harbour is reimagining how the city engages with the sea, providing the region’s most vibrant and comprehensive maritime lifestyle offering. As an extraordinary seafront district, Dubai Harbour is delighted and honoured to not only be the venue of the Dubai International Boat Show, but also collaborate with DIBS, partners and wider stakeholders to further enhance Dubai’s standing as a world-class yachting destination, and a fully integrated maritime hub providing more options and easier ways for people to explore their own maritime journey.”

A nautical show The development of so many marina facilities in Dubai has coincided with an increase in the number of residents and visitors exploring a lifestyle on both land and the waves. These trends have translated into growing interest in everything that the Dubai International Boat Show has to offer. DIBS exhibitors have indicated that they see a link between these events and a surge in their sales across a range of vessel categories, including yachts, leisure-fishing boats and speedboats.

Abeer AlShaali, deputy managing director, Gulf Craft, said: “The UAE today is widely recognised as a major hub for international yacht tourism and is a thriving market offering marine enthusiasts from all over the globe an unparalleled lifestyle experience. Dubai, in particular, has positioned itself as one of the most sought-after yachting destinations with berthing options for boats and yachts of all sizes.”

DIBS 2023 is not just a show for boat owners or for those interested in purchasing a vessel of their own. The show is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors who will be exposed to over 1000 brands from around 55 countries, showcasing the latest in nautical innovation.

The event will also be the stage for more than 40 regional and global yacht launches, further cementing Dubai’s position as one of the world capitals of maritime culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore more than 175 unique boats & watercraft at the event. The marina display area will host 50 of the world’s most beautiful boats from leading manufacturers such as Cranchi, Feadship, Gulf Craft, Princess, Ferretti, Azimut, and San Lorenzo.

Catering to the increasing demand for ‘Sea Ferraris’ Looking back at how the show has evolved over the years to be at the heart of the regional maritime industry, Riju George commented: “Marina developments have certainly played a role in the growing interest around boating and sailing among residents and visitors in Dubai. Not only do such facilities provide people with the opportunity to participate in various recreational water activities with their families and friends, but they have also helped reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading global nautical destination.”

As the UAE’s maritime industry continues to grow and secure its position on the global nautical map, the Dubai International Boat Show has also evolved to be more than just a platform for manufacturers and exhibitors. Today, it serves as a meeting point for different members of the marine industry, including boat owners, marina operators, and government officials.

With several existing marina developments across Dubai slated for expansion and new waterfront projects in the pipeline, the show will also continue to spotlight the thriving marina lifestyle that has captured the imagination of not just residents, but also visitors from all around the world.

I'm an American who visited Dubai for the first time. Here are 11 things I wish I knew before I went.

  • When I visited Dubai for the first time, there were some things I wish I had known beforehand.
  • The weather during my stay was amazing, so I think the winter season is the best time to visit.
  • The city is bigger than I expected so I'd recommend hiring a guide to see as much as possible.

Insider Today

I visited Dubai for the first time and loved my time there. However, there were a few things I wish I had known before I went on the trip .

Here are a few things I would've wanted to know before I went to Dubai.

Now I know the winter season is the best time to visit, mostly because of the pleasant weather.

yacht show dubai

Dubai has year-round sunshine , but I now know the best time to visit the city is during the winter, which, according to US News , spans from November to early March.

When I went in January 2022, the temperature ranged from 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit without any humidity. It was warm enough to enjoy touring and being out and about.

The temperature was also perfect when I stayed in the city and went to the desert. There was a slight breeze by the sea and marina, but nothing that required a jacket during the day. The sundresses and lightweight dresses I packed worked perfectly, but I advise bringing a jacket or long-sleeve shirt since it can get a bit chilly in the evening.

There are so many activities that you likely won't be able to do them all.

I didn't realize just how big Dubai was until I visited . There is an endless amount of activities, so I would suggest trying to identify your priorities before landing in the city.

Based on my experience, I recommend visiting the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world), going on the Ain Dubai, wandering the souks, and strolling along the Jumeirah Beach Residence Walk.

At night, it's worth snagging tickets to see the La Perle show and walking around the Dubai Mall to see the fountain show and lights around the Burj Khalifa.

Dubai is filled with record-breaking attractions but also tons of history and culture.

Though the world's tallest building and highest observation wheel were worth seeing , don't skip the historical part of the city. Visiting Al Seef, the souks, and taking an abra (a boat) across the river were definitely highlights of the trip.

Parts of the city are extremely innovative and new, but older areas showcase its history and culture. Seeing both allowed me to appreciate how the city has evolved over time.

Abu Dhabi is definitely worth a day trip and is only about an hour and a half away.

Though I originally planned on visiting only one of the seven emirates, the emirate of Dubai , my friends told me I had to incorporate a day trip to Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and is located in the eponymous emirate. We hired a tour guide to take us on the hour-and-a-half drive to Abu Dhabi and around the main sites.

Dubai isn't the only city with gorgeous sites and history — there are incredible places to visit nearby.

In Abu Dhabi, we visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Qasr Al Watan ( a working Presidential palace ), and Heritage Village.

I loved the emirate so much that I'd love to go back just to see more of it.

In addition to offering traditional Middle-Eastern food, Dubai seemed to have every other cuisine imaginable.

yacht show dubai

I'm allergic to sesame, so I was worried about what I'd eat on this trip since Middle-Eastern food and Emirati cuisine often use this ingredient.

However, Dubai had every cuisine I could imagine. Everything from Italian food to Chinese options was available, so my choices were not limited.

Though everything we tried was delicious, the food could be pricey.

Palm Jumeirah and Dubai International Financial Centre are closer to the main attractions than some other popular areas where visitors stay.

yacht show dubai

Since Dubai is such a large city, I think it's best to stay close to its attractions . I selected the Four Seasons Hotel Dubai International Financial Centre because it was only a two-minute drive (or a 20-minute walk) to the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall and close to restaurants and shops.

Since it was in the center of the city, grabbing taxis and finding transportation was easy.

Many visitors also opt to stay in Palm Jumeirah, which has waterfront hotels with larger properties and private beaches. It's still close to the city but has some privacy.

Hiring a tour guide ended up being the best decision I made on my trip — and it was quite affordable.

yacht show dubai

I hired tour guides to maximize my time in Dubai , which was one of the best decisions I made.

We hired guides to take us around the city on our first day, as well as on our day trip to Abu Dhabi, the desert, and a nightlife tour. We made the most of our time in the city and we saw a ton.

We booked most of the guides through the hotel or by recommendations from friends and family who had visited. Each guide was relatively affordable and was accompanied by a driver.

You must bring appropriate attire for mosques and other holy sites.

yacht show dubai

The holy sites we visited had a dress code . Men should wear a shirt with sleeves that are at least elbow length with long trousers. In mosques, women need to wear an abaya and shayla, which covers their body and hair.

You can purchase an abaya and shayla at many tourist sites or borrow them ahead of entry. I didn't realize the mosques had a dress code, but I would have planned my outfit beforehand if I had.

Don't let your worries about sand and heat cause you to pass up a trip to the desert.

yacht show dubai

I typically stay away from deserts, but dune bashing — driving at varying speeds over sand dunes — in Dubai was one of my favorite activities on the trip . It was almost like riding a roller coaster on the sand and we got to see a beautiful sunset before heading back to the city.

Don't miss dune bashing if you take a trip to the emirate.

Souks are some of the best places to buy souvenirs or spices.

yacht show dubai

You can grab souvenirs from just about any attraction in Dubai, but I think you'll get the best prices and selection at the souks, or marketplaces.

Dubai has a multitude of open-air souks, ranging from one for gold to a market for spices, and they each sell a wide variety of items. I purchased spices, jewelry, and souvenirs from different souks and strongly believe they're worth checking out.
