UKOPRA MARATHON WORLD CHAMPION 2018

CLASS 1 OFFSHORE RACING

Offshore racing in the UK is a highly competitive and exciting sport that involves high-performance powerboats and attracts top teams and drivers from around the world. The sport is governed by two main organizations: the British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) and the UK Offshore Racing Association (UKOPRA).

The BPRC is responsible for organizing and promoting the races themselves, while the UKOPRA oversees the technical and safety aspects of offshore powerboat racing in the UK.

Class one vee powerboats are a popular type of powerboat used in offshore racing in the UK. These boats are designed for speed and maneuverability, and can reach speeds of up to 120 mph. They are typically piloted by a team consisting of a driver and a throttleman, who work together to control the boat’s speed and direction.

Offshore racing events in the UK featuring class one vee powerboats include the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes and Poole-Bournemouth-Poole races, as well as the Guernsey Gold Cup and the Falmouth Fowey race. These events are highly competitive and attract large crowds of fans and spectators.

Safety is a top priority in offshore racing with class one vee powerboats, and strict rules and regulations are in place to ensure the safety of the drivers, teams, and spectators. The boats are equipped with advanced safety features like roll cages, fire suppression systems, and emergency air supplies for the crew.

Experience the Thrill : Class 1 Vee Powerboat Racing

Dive into the adrenaline-fueled world of Class 1 Vee racing, where cutting-edge technology meets extreme speed. Governed by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the sport’s international authority, Class 1 Vee racing adheres to stringent rules and regulations, covering everything from boat design to team requirements.Constructed with precision and safety in mind, these boats boast specific hull designs, cockpit layouts, and engine specifications. Advanced materials like carbon fiber and Kevlar ensure both strength and minimal weight, allowing for optimal performance.

Behind the wheel, a skilled duo of driver and throttleman work in harmony to master the boat’s speed and direction. The driver focuses on steering, while the throttleman fine-tunes the boat’s power, adjusting the throttles accordingly.Racecourses, marked by buoys or other markers, challenge teams with multiple laps around 6-8 mile-long tracks. The length and difficulty of these courses can vary based on location and conditions, but one thing remains constant: sheer exhilaration.

Propelled by twin engines generating up to 1750 horsepower each, these powerboats can reach astonishing speeds of up to 120 mph. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and safety is paramount in Class 1 Vee racing. Advanced features like roll cages, fire suppression systems, and emergency air supplies keep the crew protected. Before joining the ranks of this high-octane sport, drivers and teams must undergo extensive training and certification. Only then can they experience the unbridled thrill of Class 1 Vee racing. Join the excitement, and witness powerboat racing at its finest.

British Powerboat Racing Club

25 June 2024

bournemouth powerboat race 2023

The British Powerboat Racing Club was formed in 2001 following the gala dinner held at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, celebrating the 40th running of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat race.

The Cowes-Torquay launched offshore powerboat racing as a sport in Britain in 1961. Initially sponsored by the Daily Express newspaper, its success encouraged several countries in Europe and the Middle East to follow suit.

Hence it can rightly claim to have introduced offshore powerboat racing to the rest of the world outside the United States where the modern sport was launched with the first Miami-Nassau Race in 1956.

The race returns on 24 Aug 2024 with Experience Kissimmee as presenting sponsor and racing under Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) rules.

The Cornish 100 - Offshore Powerboat Race

UKOPRA 'Cornish 100' Offshore Powerboat Race Falmouth 2023

Falmouth will host the UKOPRA Offshore Powerboat Race Championship over the weekend of the 28th – 30th July 2023!

This will be the second consecutive offshore powerboat race event organised and managed by the Eastwood Racing team. The 2022 event was a great triumph, even though it was the last race of the calendar and just going into the winter season 15 boats from class 1 to class 3 turned up in Falmouth and successfully raced their respective classes. This year looks set to be bigger and better with more boats competing and more onshore participation.

This year we have managed to acquire the 'Cornish 100' Trophy dating back to 1964. The Cornish 100 was an offshore race held between 1964 – 1968 from Falmouth and Plymouth, in 1966 only 4 of the 18 boats finished this prestigious race. The race originally started at Black Rock just off Pendennis Point and went up to Plymouth, a 100 mile race! Notable winners include Tommy Sopwith in 1965 and Fiona Gore in 1968.

The Eastwood Racing team are a local racing team, owned and piloted by Gary Aldington from Eastwood Garage in Penryn. Their boat, Vintage Torque is a class-1 boat which can exceed 100mph on a good day! Gary is a true ambassador of the sport and has worked hard to bring the event to Falmouth for the second year running.

The race will be run under World Powerboat Events sanctioned by UKOPRA both of which are racer owned. Below is a timetable of what will be happening in Falmouth around the race, racers and organisers will be available for interviews throughout Friday and Saturday (apart from race times).

Spectators will be able to watch the start of the race in Falmouth as the boats speed through Carrick Roads between Black Rock and Pendennis Point and watch them go offshore. The main racing will be on Saturday 29th July with Sunday 30th as backup if the weather postpones the race on Saturday.

On Friday the 28th July there may be a chance to get up close to some of the boats to see them.

EVENT TIMIMGS

Friday 28th July

Boats will be arriving in Falmouth, with some hopefully being on display (details to follow)

Saturday 30th July – RACE DAY

09:30 – Competitors Briefing – Windjammer Cafe

10:00 – Safety Briefing – Windjammer Cafe

12:30 – Race start

18:00 – 23:30 – Prize giving and after race Buffet/Party– Windjammer Cafe

Class 1,2 &3 races will start off Pendennis Point. The boats will run out towards the centre of the bay and then offshore heading up to the Eddystone Light house off Plymouth and back to Falmouth (weather dependent, a shorter course may be run if the sea state is deemed too severe).

This is the closest start line to the shore in the whole offshore race calendar, so the spectators will be in for a treat! V8 noise, speed, and rooster tails of spray are guaranteed! All being well the boats should be finishing in the bay approximately 60-90 minutes later. The best place to view this will be from the Pendennis Point car park.

The boats will head back into the marina after their respective races where they can be viewed again from Events Square.

There is a free app called TackTracker available on AppStore and Google play store where you can track the offshore race as it happens.

SUNDAY 30th JULY IS HELD AS A LAYOVER DAY FOR RACING SHOULD THE WEATHER BE TOO BAD ON THE SATURDAY.

West Bay - Dorset Power Boat Racing 2024

Offshore power boat circuit racing saturday, 6th & sunday, 7th july.

Power boat racing will be taking place off the coast of West Bay, with boats launching from the slipway. Offshore Circuit Racing (OCR) is a recognised offshore powerboat category administered by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), Britain's national authority for watersports. The sport combines the seamanship of offshore powerboat racing with the multi-lap infighting of inshore circuit racing. OCR is often said to be "To the world of offshore powerboat racing what saloon car racing is to motorsport". Various events run from April to October throughout the UK each year and the sport is rising in popularity.

Where is the best place to see the UKOPRA Round the Isle of Wight Powerboat Race and where to find the Salamander Spectator Boat?

The Salamander Spectator Boat is normally found in Berthon Lymington Marina, in the Georgian town of Lymington.

Our experience confirms that the normally sheltered waters by Hurst Castle and Hurst Lighthouse is the best place to see the start of the Round The Isle of Wight UKOPRA Powerboat Race from onboard the Salamander Spectator Boat.

Lymington is therefore the preferred departure point.

Bespoke arrangements might be possible to meet guests in Lymington, Buckler's Hard on the Beaulieu River, Southampton, the Hamble, Portsmouth and Gosport in Hampshire, Cowes and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

Lymington, Yarmouth, Cowes, Hamble, Southampton and Portsmouth are well served by trains and ferries making overland connections for boarding and disembarking Salamander very easy.

Lymington, The New Forest and the Isle of Wight are unique destination venues for some amazing scenery, with luxurious boutique hotels and excellent fine dining providing the perfect backdrop to combine with some wonderful sailing on board Salamander, a traditional yacht with a classically designed teak interior .

Transfers from hotels can be arranged.

Offshore Power Boats Speed By Bournemouth

Offshore Power Boats Speed By Bournemouth

Blink and you’d have missed them! The UK offshore power boat season started on Sunday 30th August and saw power boats speed across the Bournemouth coastline, having started in Poole Harbour.

The United Kingdom Offshore Racing Association (UKOPRA) organised event saw a great number of other pleasure craft out in the bay all hoping to catch a glimpse of the speedy boats whizz by.

The beach wasn’t too busy considering the good weather and people were social distancing on the beach.

'Made Contact In Recent Months': Chelsea Stance On Signing Euro 2024 'Starboy' Clarified

Chelsea are trying to add to their impressive youth core to improve the long-term situation of the club under new head coach Enzo Maresca and there has been a positive update on their aims to sign Barcelona forward Marc Guiu.

Chelsea Ahead Of Bayern Munich In Marc Guiu Race

Why are chelsea leading pursuit for barcelona forward guiu.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues are now actually ahead of German heavyweights Bayern Munich in the race to sign the young Spaniard in the summer transfer window. He cites this is because Chelsea “presented specific project” to Guiu detailing his long-term role in the team and how they aim to develop him into a top-class forward.

The journalist also adds that the London heavyweights have already sent the contract proposal to the Barcelona man and that he will not be loaned out to Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg either. The Blues want to pay the 18-year-old’s £5 million release clause as soon as possible in an attempt to sign him quickly and stave off interest from other clubs. This also comes after they confirmed the signing of talented Brazilian winger Estevao aka Messinho from Palmeiras.

According to a source in Spain , the player has already decided to “pack his bags” and will be leaving for England.

What Will Chelsea Get In Marc Guiu?

Guiu enjoyed his breakthrough season with Barcelona in the 2023/24 campaign and produced a number of impressive performances to garner the interest of other clubs. He scored two goals in seven appearances for the La Liga heavyweights’ senior team and even became the youngest player to score on his debut for Barcelona in their 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao last season.

The 18-year-old has been hailed as a “monster” forward for his admirable performances at the youth level for the Spanish heavyweights. He has scored six goals and provided four assists for Barcelona Athletic, their reserve sid,  and even scored in the UEFA Champions League against Royal Antwerp last season. The Blues are trying their best to sign the teenager as soon as possible to stop a team like Bayern Munich from hijacking the deal instead.

Sheboygan recognized as 'Best Race Site' for hosting Mercury racing event last summer

Sheboygan will host the mercury racing midwest challenge for a second year, aug. 9-11..

bournemouth powerboat race 2023

SHEBOYGAN — City of Sheboygan was recognized as the 2023 American Power Boat Association Best Race Site for hosting the Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge last summer.

Mayor Ryan Sorenson was presented the award, recognizing the best cities to host APBA races , at the Feb. 5 Common Council meeting by P1 Offshore Adviser Stuart Halley.

“We are truly honored to receive this prestigious award for hosting the 2023 event here in Sheboygan,” Sorenson said. “We were thrilled to have had the opportunity to showcase the beauty and hospitality of our city, and this recognition is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our community."

Sheboygan was one of three finalists for the award, according to Sherron Winer, co-chairperson of the APBA Club Support Committee.

“The race event ticked all the key criteria boxes — including excellence in overall production and officiating, participation and support from teams, local/regional event marketing and publicity, inclusion of the APBA in venue marketing and promotion, creative use of social media and event attendance — and, notably, Sheboygan is the first new, first-time event to be honored,” Winer said.

The three-day Powerboat P1 and Formula One Powerboat racing event generated about $4.7 million in visitor spending and drew about 43,000 visitors.

Powerboat P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala said, "Sheboygan stood out because of its beautiful water, lodging options, outdoor recreation space and a local government group that was eager to learn more about powerboat racing and host a high-profile event to show off the city’s pristine shoreline and No. 1 natural resource, Lake Michigan."

What to do for Valentine's Day: Your guide to Valentine's Day dining, sweet treats and fun in Sheboygan

The city will host the Mercury Racing event again this summer, Aug. 9-11.

Sorenson said, “We are looking forward to continuing to be a premier destination for the exhilarating P1 Offshore race series and to welcoming back the teams to our shores this August.”

Aim to avoid late-season dramas for Goodison send-off

So now we know Southampton will be the Everton’s final opponents for Goodison Park’s emotional send-off. While they may have had other opponents, with more obvious symbolism in mind, the club will at least be happy that their request to host the game on the penultimate weekend of the season was granted.

The idea is that there will hopefully be no title race drama or relegation battles to overshadow what is a key moment in Everton’s history, and media eyes should be able to more fully focus on events at Goodison.

Everton will hope to bow out from Goodison on a high, and with the Premier League status already long intact.

Their start appears on the more challenging side. After hosting Brighton on the opening day, they also have tough trips to Tottenham and Aston Villa in their first five.

The period between late November and New Year, which sees games against Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, also looks tricky.

Key dates for the 2024-25 season

The transfer window officially opened on Friday, June 14, with the infamous cut-off date for the 2023-24 profit and sustainability rules (PSR) reporting period coming at the end of the month on June 30. The window closes on Friday, August 30, at 11pm BST (6pm ET).

The winter transfer window will open on Wednesday, January 1, closing on Monday, February 3.

The new Premier League season gets underway on the weekend of August 16-18, a week after the Community Shield. That game will be another Manchester derby and a replay of last season’s FA Cup final.

The Premier League season finishes on Sunday, May 25, when all 10 fixtures will be played at the same time.

Premier League clubs will enter the FA Cup at the third round, which begins on Saturday, January 11. The Carabao Cup will begin in mid-August with Premier League teams not playing in Europe entering in the second round and the remaining seven clubs receiving a bye to the third round.
