Best Luau in California!
It is the best Luau I have attended in California. It made me feel as if I were actually in Hawaii. The dancers were highly skilled, professional, and beautiful, their whole program was outstanding. The food was abundant. They had a good variety of salads, entrees, and desserts. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole luau, the cost is well worth an evening of good food and great entertainment. I would love to return again next year.
August 2023
Highly Recommend Private Luau Experience
I coordinated with the Catamaran to host a private luau and buffet for my company. We got a lot of positive feedback about the event from our guests at the end of the night - many of them were hoping we could do it again next year! I would highly recommend the Catamaran's sunset luau for large, private gatherings.
Audience Participation at the Luau!
The musicians were great, and the dancers' costumes were fantastic. The fire dancer was amazing. A very enjoyable evening of food and entertainment. One complimentary Mai Tai and Lei upon entry. The luau experience was worth it. Other folks at our table were returning because they really enjoyed their experience last year. The luau also has audience participation, which is great for young and old.
This property is beautiful
My granddaughter and I enjoyed the waterfall, fish, ducks, and parrots. The pool and hot tub were nice and open at night when we wanted to relax. We did the VIP luau and really enjoyed it. The food was amazing, the real flower leis were gorgeous, and the show was entertaining. We were also treated to a Mai Tai drink in a souvenir cup and a non-alcohol drink in a pineapple cup for my granddaughter. We made some special memories together.

Have the tower rooms been remodeled if so where are they located?
They have not been remodeled. We just stayed there earlier this week. They are in the Tower which is about the center of the resort. All the other buildings are only 2 stories while the Tower is 12, I believe.
Is this an all inclusive hotel?

What's an amazing spa experience! I'm just rating this review on my spa day here and the food. I have not stayed at the hotel, but I'm sure it would be an amazing experience! Came here to celebrate my birthday and was disappointed at first when I was told my facial couldn't be done as my facialist had an emergency, but they did an exceptional job of rescheduling me later in the day and made me have an amazing experience. In the spa area, there is a locker room area to lock all your stuff and you can use the Jacuzzi the sauna. They also have a relaxation room where you wait before you get your services. In the relaxation room there's tea and fruits, you can enjoy while relaxing and waiting for your service. There also are showers that you can use afterwards. The shower area is clean and they provide shampoo and everything you need to getready. We enjoyed a beautiful lunch outside, looking at the beautiful bay enjoying the gorgeous San Diego weather! We ordered a sushi roll and some ceviche that came with chips very fresh tasting and delicious to start off. We also got a fish sandwich, chicken sandwich, and a cheeseburger and all of us really enjoyed our food! They also gave me a present of some of their facial products and brought out a dessert for my birthday. I can't say enough good things about this place. Definitely will be coming back for another spa day!

Dear Rita, thank you for sharing your experience. We're happy to hear our team was able to accommodate your facial to your satisfaction and that you enjoyed the delicious cuisine at Oceana Coastal Kitchen. Whether it's for another spa day or a leisure staycation, we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Very nice place to stay. Came here in the month of October. I get the whole beach Hawaiian vibe. There were several weddings during our stay. Makes sense for the location. The hotel feels like it's dated but is very pleasant and relaxing. We had a few issues with our room and let the front desk know. The issues were taken care of immediately. Walking from the room to the pool or to the beach is very beautiful. The KOI pond and ducks makes the walk feel so natural and peaceful. The arcade room is so convenient for the kids. Spent several hours in there playing. There's so much time do here in San Diego. There's plenty of restaurants with in walking distance. The restaurant at the hotel was ok. It is pricey for what you're getting . The menu is very simple with not a lot of options to choose from. It's not that big of a deal being that there's so many other options within walking distance. The parking lot is very compact. It's difficult to park with a large SUV. Overall I would recommend to stay here. It can be pricey but it's worth it. Location and hotel amenities were great. Will definitely return .

Dear Larry, we're glad you enjoyed our Polynesian-themed resort with palm trees, lush vegetation, tiki torches, koi ponds, waterfalls, and exotic birds that are always happy to talk with guests. Thank you for your 5-star review of the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa. Your intention to return is the best compliment we could receive and we eagerly await your return.
This hotel has been here forever. I grew up in San Diego and it was the go to place for a romantic get away steps from the beach. We stayed there 10 years ago for a reunion and again this weekend for another one. The rooms have been renovated but the place is still dated. Walking into the lobby is like a step back in time, I think it's looked this way for ages. We had a gathering outside right by the beach, the closest bathroom was a long ways away and for some older folks with disabilities it was difficult. One person asked the hostess in the restaurant if they could use their facility and was told absolutely not. Not good form for someone using a cane. We stayed in the bay side suites. While it was amazing to stay where you could open the curtains and see the water, the downside was the curtains were almost see through with no solid curtain to keep out the prying eyes and there were people walking past all day and evening. The bedroom was adequate and the mattress firm enough. The bathroom had been redone but the shower was really narrow and a bigger individual might have difficulties. It's very expensive and for my money not really worth the money. You can get better meals at less money up the street and if you're wanting luxury, this is could be considered a tarnished gem.

We've shared your comments with our management team for consideration and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Beautiful hotel. It's on the older side, but they have renovated most of the rooms. The tower rooms aren't renovated yet. We stayed at the garden view 2 queens room. Although I wish we had a bay view room, our room did not disappoint. We had a view of the Koi ponds and you can see them swimming from our balcony. The grounds are decorated with lots of tropical plants and trees. They have parrots who talk that entertained my kids. The beach is walking distance from our room. Very cool! Over all I'd stay again and try to take advantage of the amenities! Why the 4 stars and not five? Spider webs all over the place!! Dead bugs on spider webs just hanging around the hall ways and the balcony. The free coffee in the rooms sucks! The wanna be kuerig did the job but it still sucked! lol for the price you pay, I'd wish it was decent coffee.

We will pass your comments on to management for review and consideration. We hope to welcome you back for another vacation getaway!
Barely a 2-star experience that I'm typing this from my room. customer service is nonexistent. Every staff member we encountered couldn't care less about our stay. Hard to believe we paid over $600 per night for this mess. Despite multiple in-person requests for basic housekeeping, our room was never cleaned. We informed the front desk staff (at least five of them), who assured us multiple times that someone would take care of it, but nothing happened. When we returned to our unmade room with no towels for the third time and called the front desk again, we were met with attitude and told there was no one available to help. And well, our "king suite" is just an average hotel room. Will never come back here.

My previous yelp review caused some discomfort, they had to remove it. -5 out of 10.
My husband and I were in San Diego for our baby moon and a spa day was definitely a MUST for us (more so for me but hey, he reaps the benefits). We both got a massage (prenatal massage for me) and a facial - both were about 50 mins long for each service. We hung out in their lounge in between services and that provided great ambiance for relaxation. The locker rooms were great and had all the essentials that you'll need after your spa day, including access to their sauna! At the end of our facial service, our esthetician even provided a 'skin prescription' for us based on our skincare needs so that was really cool. Only reason why I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 stars is due to the booking system because it was super confusing. While I did get an email and phone call confirmation, I didn't realize that I had booked the facials for the both of us at a later time during the day and not right after our massages (we received our massages first and then facials) for it to be back to back. The receptionist was very nice and explained to us that there was only one esthetician on site at that time so that was the only way for them to accommodate us. We were going to cancel the facials but then ended up not doing so because they were going to charge for the service regardless if we received it or not so we decided to stay at the resort until our facial services, which were about 3 hours apart after the conclusion of our massage services. Otherwise, we had a very relaxing day at this spa location!

Dear guest, thank you for sharing the details of your experience. We are sorry about the confusion and any inconvenience you may have experienced. We're glad it all ended well and you enjoyed your day at our spa. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Fantastic stay! Before visiting customer service was super helpful over the phone and took down our requests. We booked a pool side room. Although it didn't come with a microwave. I made a request before hand and luckily we were able to get one in our room without an additional charge. Upon arrival the person at the desk Randy was super helpful. Gave us a rundown of everything, told us where to park etc . Room was clean and they brought in our crib and microwave before we got into the room. Our stay was amazing , scenery was so beautiful. Kids loved the hotel cat, ponds, and birds . The pool was so fun. We had a blast at the arcade as well ! Loved that this hotel including clean pool towels for convenience. Next to the pool was daily kid crafts . We made cute keepsakes while we were there ! The kids also were able to do the movie on the bay and ice cream social on Wednesday! We had a scavenger hunt given to us by the front desk and afterwards the kids turned it in to the Java cafe for a baked treat. Gift shop was REASONABLY PRICED ! Which is something I never thought I'd say! My kids were able to pick out some goodies under $10! ( bracelets , necklaces , notebooks) We ordered room service a few nights and the food was INCREDIBLE! The portions were HUGE. The kids meals could easily feed an adult and came with a scoop of ice cream ! Win win Restaurants are within walking distance. We tried world famous. The food was incredible, great portions and had a view. Beach was fun and clean . We did yoga on the beach in the am (8:30) and it was just so beautiful and the ladies we had instructing us were amazing ! Also kid friendly. Afterwards checking out was an absolute breeze and zero hidden fees were found once checking out ! 1)One thing I will say is poolside can be loud, however didn't bother any my kids including a baby sleeping . The curfew at 10pm was always enforced which made things perfect. 2) no top latch on the hotel doors. Also wasn't a huge problem for us . 3) make sure to ask for utensils and condiments when ordering room service . One night they were slammed and I ran down for some. Again totally understandable

Dear Christina, thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. Nothing makes us happier than knowing you enjoyed our abundant activities, delicious dining, and prime Mission Bay location. Our team looks forward to welcoming you back soon. P.S. Thankyou for the great pics.
For now I would rate this a 3-4 We originally wanted a ada room since we are a family filed with handicaps It was not easy for my son but he managed First thing that happened was our carpet was soaked from the fridge being turned off not fun getting pairs of socks u just slapped on wet and soaked. Dead Fruit flies in the freezer, side of the bathroom was not cleaned, handle on the dresser broke off, handle for the tub was hard to turn on and to turn in back off without dripping, phone was broken But honestly it is what it is. I think the location is great. All the tiny things can be easily fixed on my own and for the other things resort handled everything professionally Our children enjoyed everything Yes it's outdated but it reminded me of hotels From my home town. Food is awesome! I've never ate so much carbs lol The rosemary bread is to die for As I write this review. Im still a guest until next week Staff is very accommodating This is a reminder that nothing is perfect and sometimes ppl make the best memories When things go sideways Removed 1 star for here me out The hotel does not come with a water extractor machine for wet suits would have been great in the locker room pool side Picture will be posted later and a new review to add on will also be revised

Dear Jacquelyn, thank you for staying with us. We apologize for the wet carpet and fruit flies. It's gratifying to know that you had a great experience with our staff and you enjoyed our tasty cuisine. We hope you return soon for another amazing vacation.
Recently went to San Diego for my Anniversary weekend with my wife and decided to stay at the Catamaran Resort. When we got to our room we found that the cabinet door to the minifridge area was partially disassembled and sitting out in the walkway. We then went to the restroom and found the toilet seat completely disconnected from the toilet. We contacted the front desk who said they would take care of it. We waited 45 minutes before calling the front desk again and being told they were sorry and would send someone promptly. After another 45 minutes (and us really having to use the restroom after our long drive) I physically went to the front desk to let them know that I had spent a lot of money for this reservation. They apologized and offered us $100 credit at the Hotel restaurant or room service (which we had no intention of using). Instead they offered half off one of our nights. The toilet was still not fixed when we left for dinner 20 minutes later. Later in the weekend their room service knocked at the door to do room service at 10am while we were still getting ready to go out. This felt early but ultimately it was understandable. However, after we left a few minutes later they never came back to bring new towels or anything until 5pm that evening when my wife were back in the room discussing dinner plans when they did not even knock but just let themselves in. It was an awkward exchange wherein we were reprimanded that we didn't have our "Do not disturb" door sign up. We expressed that we would just leave so they could turn over the room. When we got back to the room a few hours later after dinner we saw that nothing had been done. No new towels etc... The beds were also really hard and left me kind of sore in the mornings. Honestly, we paid WAY TOO MUCH money for the quality we recieved. Additionally, I get it's an industry standard but the "resort fees" are a scam to make the rooms appear cheaper at first glance online. They also charge an additional nightly parking fee on top of rooms, resort fees, and taxes. Even after they cut the cost of one of the nights in half it still felt overpriced. Honestly, I would probably recommend considering one of the other resorts in the area.
