Dmitry Yevgenyevich Rybolovlev born 22 November 1966 is a Russian businessman and investor. He is proud owner of $250 million super yacht Anna . As of November 2020, Rybolovlev is ranked 224th on Forbes’s list of billionaires with a net worth of $6.6 billion. He is one of the alleged victims of Swiss art transporter Yves Bouvier as part of The Bouvier Affair.

Owner of AS Monaco

Rybolovlev relocated to Monaco in 2010 and in December 2011 bought a 66% stake in the Monegasque association football club AS Monaco FC.

The club was in a bad state at the time, playing at the bottom of the French second league and highly in debt, and the Monaco Palace was looking for an investor to improve the club’s prospects. According to French media reports, Ryboloblev acquired the club for a symbolic €1, but with a commitment to invest at least €100 million ($129.4 million) into the club over the next four years.

The remaining 33% stake in the club is owned by Monaco’s ruling family, the House of Grimaldi , with Rybolovlev’s acquisition of the stake in the club approved by Prince Albert II of Monaco. Dmitry Rybolovlev was subsequently appointed president of the club.

110m superyacht ANNA: the largest ever Feadship yacht delivered

By Rebecca Bradbury   9 October 2018

The 110m/361ft superyacht ANNA , the largest superyacht ever built by renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship , is now believed to have been delivered to her owner.

Although there has been no official announcement from Feadship, ANNA has been captured on video (see below) leaving the Netherlands on her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean .

Her delivery marks her official entrance into the Top 100 Largest Superyachts. She ranks as the joint 33 rd largest superyacht in the world, sharing the spot with Lurssen’s 110m/361ft superyacht RADIANT.

At 4,693GT, she is also the largest yacht in terms of gross tonnage to have ever been built in the Netherlands. However, she has to settle for second place when it comes to being the longest yacht ever built in the Netherlands as the 110m/361ft superyacht JUBILEE from Oceanco is 10cm longer.

As a highly secretive new build, few details are known about the superyacht. But it has been confirmed that both the exterior and interior styling was headed up by British stylist Michel Leach while De Voogt Naval Architects was behind the naval architecture.

As images in this article reveal, her profile is distinguished by dramatic superstructure lines which resemble a giant eye amidships. Plus, the upper deck aft appears to be floating, and there is a helipad on the sundeck aft.

Michael Leach previously worked on another yacht in the Top 100 Largest Superyachts – the multi-award winning 95m/312ft superyacht PALLADIUM by Blohm + Voss. The exterior of the two yachts share some similarities, such as the distinctive eye shape and the lines of the elongated bow.

The designer has also worked with Feadship on the 67m/220ft charter yacht ‘Anna I’ which was built in 2007 and picked up a prestigious World Superyacht Award the following year.

Other features of ANNA's exterior include a large foredeck which can serve as a touch-and-go helipad. As shown in the Instagram gallery above, the area can also be surrounded by tall netting suggesting the space can be used for some sort of ball game, such as basketball.

No further information on the interior has been released but with her dimensions, a huge variety of spacious areas designed for entertaining, relaxing and dining can be expected.

Superyacht ANNA has replaced the 102m/333ft luxury yacht SYMPHONY as the largest ever yacht built by Feadship, and her arrival into the Top 100 Largest Superyachts has knocked another build from the yard – the 84m/274ft charter yacht SAVANNAH – out of the rankings.

In total, Feadship has nine yachts in the Top 100 Largest Superyachts.

Anna is a custom 65ft Spirit of Tradition yacht with some very high-tech features concealed beneath her classic exterior, reports Alison Langley

When approaching  Anna  moored at the dock, it’s hard to immediately tell whether she is a restored classic or a recently built replica. In fact, neither is true;  Anna  is a new build designed to include both the virtues of a classic yacht and the technical achievements of a modern cruiser.

Anna ’s story began two decades ago when owner Tony Merck began thinking about stepping up from small classic daysailers, like the Herreshoff 12 1⁄2 and the Bjarne Aas-designed International One-Design, into a larger cruiser that could maintain a classic aesthetic.

lyman-morse-spirit-of-tradition-yacht-anna-cockpit-credit-alison-langley

Anna ‘s classically sumptuous cockpit

In the summer of 2015, Tony approached Robert Stephens of Stephens Waring Yacht Design and work began on proposal sketches for the boat that would become  Anna  at their design offices in Belfast, Maine. Stephens has had a lot of experience with modern wood construction, having worked in the Spirit of Tradition genre since before it even had a name.

Tony and his wife Ann knew they wanted her to be built in Maine, but were not set on a yard. Robert Stephens and business partner Paul Waring took Tony on a guided tour of five top Maine yards before deciding to go with Lyman Morse, of Thomaston. Coincidently, Tony had played soccer and rebuilt old cars with yard founder Cabot Lyman in prep school some 50 years before.

Systems expertise

Lyman-Morse is well-respected in the custom boat world, but were not then as well known for building wooden boats as many other Maine yards with expertise in cold-moulded wood construction. Lyman-Morse did, however, have a reputation for high-quality glassfibre and carbon boats, but won the job thanks to their systems expertise and a modern approach to construction, including the integration of old-school hand craftsmanship with cutting-edge equipment like five-axis CNC machines.

I was hired by Ann Merck and Lyman-Morse early in the project to photograph the entire project from start to finish, and make a coffee table book about  Anna  as a surprise gift for Tony. Project manager Lance Buchanan made sure my visits were timed so I could capture the build at the right moments.

Anna  was built using a wood composite cold-moulding system. Her hull is planked in four layers of wood – an inner layer of tongue-and-groove Douglas fir strip planking, screwed and glued to the laminated Douglas fir frames. That’s followed by two layers of diagonal veneers, and a final layer of longitudinal strip planking, the whole sheathed in two layers of biaxial/mat glassfibre and epoxy.

Anna ‘s wineglass transom

Modular build

Lyman-Morse built  Anna ’s interior in modules, allowing them to fabricate the galley, head, and main saloon off the boat and then lift each completed section into the hull. When each module was installed, the bulkheads mated against the curvature of the hull perfectly, with no trimming or additional tweaking required.  Anna ’s construction adage became, literally, ‘measure once, cut once’.

Since  Anna ’s design brief called for a classic ambience, that meant that hundreds of feet of hydraulic lines, electrical wires, and even halyards needed to be concealed beneath the yacht’s joinery. The designers at Lyman-Morse and Stephens Waring worked closely to come up with innovative ways to hide these wiring runs and mechanical spaces. By creating a complete 3D model of  Anna  they were able to plan these tiny crevices before construction began.

lyman-morse-spirit-of-tradition-yacht-anna-hull-planking-credit-alison-langley

8,212ft of tongue and groove (Douglas fir) planks were used for the inner layer of the hull

Anna  is intended for easy daysailing, and her deck layout reflects this. A roller-furling boom from Southern Spars makes simple work of the large, high aspect ratio mainsail. A self-tacking jib will be the go-to sail for most of her career.  Anna ’s captain, Jim Murphy, enjoys sailing with guests aboard. “I love to call ‘Ready about’ and watch the guests ask ‘What happens now?’ and see their faces when I say ‘Nothing’, and just spin the wheel,” he comments with a grin.

But ease of sailing has not dulled the experience. Murphy explains: “Under sail,  Anna  is like a wonderful dancer. Her motion, her response to the sea and helm are like no other boat that I have sailed. An absolute joy.” For  Anna ’s forays onto the racecourse, she switches to the ‘race jib’, a 100% working jib that fits on the furling headstay. A Code Zero and masthead asymmetric round out her inventory.

Hidden high tech

lyman-morse-spirit-of-tradition-yacht-anna-boarding-platform-credit-alison-langley

A hydraulic boarding platform enables easy access to the water for all generations. The step-stool ladder deploys automatically

Beneath the saloon is a state-of-the-art engine room with turbodiesel motor, lithium ion batteries and multi-compressor air conditioning. A touchscreen nav plotter in the raised saloon disappears into the furniture with a touch of a button. Her deck saloon windows are power-operated at rear and sides, allowing airflow and communication with people sitting in the cockpit at the push of a button.

Following her launch in April 2018,  Anna  has completed two sailing seasons, split between Rhode Island, Maine, and Nova Scotia, with a good mix of day sailing, Spirit of Tradition racing, and overnight sails. She’s earned silverware in both Sprit of Tradition races and design awards but, more importantly, she’s fulfilled the ambition her owners had 20 years earlier to expand their world of classic sailing.

Anna: The modern classic yacht that conceals some serious technology

Yachting World

  • January 21, 2020

Merck had watched the birth of the Spirit of Tradition genre and had followed boats like the Pedrick-designed carbon beauty Savannah , as well as the Joel White-designed W-Class day racers. But his ambitions lay less with recreating an early 20th Century racer. Instead he admired the sturdy, able cruisers from past designers such as Fife and Alden, while he also loved the modern construction and high specification of this new generation of classics.

Anna ’s traditional style masks lots of high-tech systems. Sail handling systems are all push-button: electric winches, roller-furling boom and jib, and hydraulics to drive the sail controls. Two hidden systems maintain her classic lines while adding 21st Century functionality: a below deck anchor deployment system, and a side-boarding platform that eases access from a tender and provides a swimming ‘porch’.

Following her launch in April 2018, Anna has completed two sailing seasons, split between Rhode Island, Maine , and Nova Scotia , with a good mix of day sailing, Spirit of Tradition racing, and overnight sails. She’s earned silverware in both Sprit of Tradition races and design awards but, more importantly, she’s fulfilled the ambition her owners had 20 years earlier to expand their world of classic sailing.

On Powering Anna

Anna’s sailplan is tall, simple and fast.

Sailboats are just that: Boats that move because they have sails. So while we spend lots of our time figuring how out how slick mechanical systems operate winches and cool the air below, at the end of the day a boat like our new 66-footer Anna, just finishing up at Lyman Morse Boatbuilding , is a sailboat: Her central role is to provide her owners and crew the delightful experience of cajoling the wind into pushing or pulling all through the water — in more or less the direction the crew wants to go.

Since Anna’s chief propulsive force is the wind, capturing that force is the job of the rig and sail plan.Getting this plan right, for a boat like Anna is not all cold engineering. It’s as much a psychological choice, as a technical one. (Click here for Anna’s full high-rez sailplan.)

Our job is to match this sail plan to the style of sailing the owners want to embrace. Anna’s owners set their sights on easy, low-stress daysailing. While they’ll sail with a couple of professional crew, they wanted things to remain low-key. The gear should be all about easy short-handed sailing. But (there’s always a “but!”) the owners wanted to show Anna’s speed off at Spirit of Tradition regattas. We her designers set the bar high. When Anna races, we wanted her to win!

Fortunately, nowadays you can have both simple and fast. Our first decision was to stay away from big, overlapping genoas. In rule-beater boats of the 1930’s, a big 150-percent genoa jib added unmeasured and unrated area. Performance was higher than for a smaller working jib, but only slightly. And the downsides are huge. Tacking a big headsail is a bear — dragging a massive sail around the shrouds and spreaders. Sheeting angles are wider, so upwind sailing slots are sloppier. Improving sheeting angles requires moving shrouds inboard, which drives rigging loads and mast weight and windage up and up and up. Basically, overlapping jibs are a mistake. That’s why we haven’t designed a boat with one for more than a decade.

We find we can engineer enough sail power with a basic main and working jib pair, that will drive any boat well in all but the lightest winds. We look to reefing the main to keep things under control when the wind pipes up.

A Classic Main

sailing yacht anna owner

Anna’s big reacher modeled going to windward, via North Sails Design Team.

Which brings us to the mainsail. Today’s roller-furling booms work well for keeping larger mains manageable by smaller crews. Plus they give away little in performance, compared to their race-boat relatives. Push a button, and Anna’s large main sail will roll away as the breeze grows and will shift the center of effort forward to keep the helm well-balanced. While we’ve found great performance and value in square-headed mainsails in recent years—lower drag, noticeably less heeling force per unit of forward drive, and easier trimming— Anna’s mission of simple sailing is better-suited to a conventional, triangular Marconi rig, with a permanent backstay with a hydraulic adjuster. That’s how we bend the mast to shape the draft on this fully-battened rollaway main.

Even so, Anna’s mainsail will be mainly about simplicity.

How’s the Headsail Working?

Anna will feature two jibs: A self-tacking daysailing headsail of about 90% LP, and a “race” jib, that’s basically just a fast working jib of about 106 percent LP. Both will furl on the hydraulic roller, so management will be easy for either putting the boat away after a two-hour cocktail cruise or rounding the windward mark and setting the downwind kite.

In daysail mode, tacking will merely mean putting the helm over—the boomless headsail on a curved track will slide from port to starboard. Nothing could be simpler.

Large off the wind sails will give power to Anna, via North Sails Design Group

When sheets are eased, Anna’s crew will have a couple of choices for lighter sails, though both will easily manageable, via the folks over at North Sails. A Code Zero headsail that is the modern incarnation of an old-fashioned “reacher:” A big high-clewed powerful sail for anything from close-reaching in the light going, to full-on downwind use when cruising or delivering the boat. In really light air, this sail will make the difference between drifting and sailing. It will be set on a continuous-line furler with a torque rope, so putting it away is just a matter of pulling a string. Also a poleless asymmetrical spinnaker will get Anna downwind in a hurry. It will be the choice when racing. A spinnaker sock will keep that sail under control, although 3,000 square feet of any sail will always be a challenge in a breeze.

We talked quite a bit with the designers North Sails about Anna’s off-wind inventory. We walked through a roller-furling top-down system for a spinnaker, but didn’t like the compromises in sail shape. It appeared a flatter, smaller — and slower sail — would have been required.

Remember, we are looking for winning performance when Anna races.

Some Smart Sticks

Spars are key to sail performance. And that’s all about getting weight out of the rig. Yachts must have the stability and power to stand up to their sail plan. Our spar makers focused on lightweight and durable materials: Carbon in the extrusions and standing rigging made sense, but a complex and heavy traveler on the cabin-top did not. That’s extra weight and cost for limited additional control. We also left out carbon stays for the jib furler. That kind of techno-exotica didn’t fit the simple mission of this boat. In all, we expect Anna to be a wholesome, relaxed and fun dayboat/cruiser, that will also flash surprising speed if well sailed on the racecourse.

We can’t wait to get out on her and see where her sails take us.

110m Feadship superyacht Anna undertakes sea trials

The largest  Feadship  superyacht to date, Anna , has embarked on her first day of sea trials. The superyacht was pictured leaving the port of Den Helder in the Netherlands on July 24 and will complete rigorous sea trials in the North Sea.

It comes after the superyacht was launched earlier this month at the yard's Makkum facility. She was moved through the centre of Amsterdam and had final steering and propulsion gear fitted ahead of her sea trials. Once delivered she will join Jubilee as the joint largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands.

Styled inside by  Michael Leach Design  in collaboration with the owner's personal New York decorator Brian McCarthy Inc., the 110 metre Anna  features in-house naval architecture by  De Voogt . She was first spotted outside its shed at Feadship's Papendrecht sub-contractor Scheepswerf Slob in December 2016 after which the hull and superstructure were moved to Makkum for fit-out ahead of a planned 2018 delivery.

This four-deck displacement yacht is being built to Lloyd’s Registry standards and features a dramatic architectural curve that links the main deck with the upper deck. Hatches in the topsides hint at a side-loading  tender garage  and a fold-out  superyacht beach club , although those features are yet to be confirmed by the yard.

The collaboration with Michael Leach Design is significant as the UK-based studio has previously worked on the iconic 96 metre  Blohm + Voss  superyacht  Palladium  and one other Feadship yacht, the 67 metre  Anna .

When completed, Anna will rank among  the world’s largest superyachts  and will steal the title of Feadship flagship from the 101.5 metre  Symphony , which was launched in 2015.

Other recent notable projects from the Dutch yard include the 73 metre Hasna , which was delivered in 2017 and was a winner at the World Superyacht Awards 2018 , and the 69.5 metre Samaya , also delivered in 2017. Looking further forward, the yard is also believed to be developing a 93 metre yacht called Project 814 , with a 2019 delivery planned.

Honing Her Hull

  • By Kelley Sanford
  • Updated: May 9, 2017

Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding shows the world its cold-molded construction of the 65-foot, modern classic sailing yacht, Anna .

It’s a mesmerizing visual: an organized frenzy works well in this builder’s shipyard. Craftsmen virtually dance with each other, working in sync to construct the hull. It’s built plank-by-plank, upside down, in true cold-molding fashion.

In this video, thin plywood is soaked in epoxy before it’s laid diagonally across the already-started hull. Then that step is repeated, and repeated and repeated again until there’s a full diagonal layer of laminated plywood. Next, another diagonal layer, laid down in the opposite direction this time, creates a crisscross pattern. It’s quite a process but ultimately, cold molding allows for a watertight, relatively light build.

Anna is a modern-classic sloop designed for easy use. Stephens Waring Yacht Design penned her exterior, and her interior is by Martha Coolidge Design. Although she is a daysailer, Anna does have accommodations for six, including an owner’s cabin forward.

Anna: A 65' Cold-Molded Sloop

sailing yacht anna owner

On an early April afternoon, the launch ramp at Lyman-Morse in Thomaston echoed with jubilant cheers as the 65-foot cold-molded sloop Anna was gently lowered via a large Travelift into the St. George River.

After a long, dreary winter, a festive launching of a beautiful boat was just what this crowd wanted. Anna ’s creamy white hull gleamed and colorful signal flags snapped back and forth in the brisk wind off the river as the owner’s wife smashed the traditional bottle of bubbly on the bow and a small cannon fired.

The sloop, built for an owner who plans to sail in New England, was a creative collaboration among Belfast yacht designers Robert Stephens and Paul Waring, Rockland interior designer Martha Coolidge, and Drew Lyman, owner of Lyman-Morse, who pulled together a team of artisans to complete the two-year project.

“The owner came to us for our expertise in systems engineering and installation, our attention to detail and responsiveness to owners’ requests,” said Lyman. “In addition, our strength lies in quality and cost-management, both of which are crucial in a project this complex.”

sailing yacht anna owner

Carpenters, metal fabricators, electricians, draftsmen, and riggers helped take the design from concept to fully-built vessel, first carefully crafting a full-scale mockup, then various alternative walk-through layouts. Next came the structural components, the finished hull and cockpit, and then the custom-designed deck hardware, rail systems, butterfly hatch hardware, and amidships boarding step.

This was the biggest cold-molded boat the yard has built to date. Lyman-Morse has been known previously for its custom fiberglass projects. Key to the process was the use of the mockups, computer modeling, and actual 3D models, Lyman said.

“This fine-tuning step sets the process at Lyman-Morse apart from the typical boatyard approach,” he said. “Several designers can work on the same component in real time ironing out details on the desktop rather than on the shop floor. This is the name of the game.”

Anna boasts a classic look, with a graceful sheer and a tall salon with big windows on the same level as the cockpit. But while she looks traditional, she has all the modern conveniences, such as a fin keel with a bulb, carbon spars and push-button hydraulic systems, including that amidships boarding platform and an anchor launching system.

Anna was designed to be an easy daysailer for taking friends and family on the water, but can also sleep six for longer cruises.

The 95-foot carbon mast will carry a large main, and the jib can be rigged for self-tacking or manual. The hull consists of two layers of red cedar veneer sandwiched between inner and outer layers of fir planking, covered with a thin layer of fiberglass. The frames are laminated douglas fir.

The interior was constructed on the shop floor in two primary modules. The port side module included the aft crew cabin, guest cabin, and guest head. The starboard module included the galley, master shower, and head. The master cabin bed and cabinets were constructed as several smaller modules. This approach allowed work to progress on several fronts at once, which speeded up the construction process.

Anna ’s owner said he interviewed five different yards, including one in Nova Scotia, before settling on Lyman-Morse. He was impressed by the yard’s competency with modern systems.

“Carbon spars and rigging, hydraulics and electric winches, a lot of people make those, but someone has to put it all together. The integration was key,” he said.

Looking back on the process, he said, “Building a boat is an incredible experience. You can get so wrapped up in details in a pleasant way. The next step is, will you enjoy using the boat as much as the build process?”

Anna ’s classy looks and modern systems are sure to make her an absolute joy to sail. But no one in Maine would argue with this owner if he decided he wanted to build another boat.

Lynda Clancy, a founding director of Penobscot Bay Pilot , has been reporting in Maine since 1984.

The fine woodwork and detailing of Anna’s living quarters wouldn’t look out of place in a high-end home.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
